This deserves to be remastered and available for VR or next-gen game consoles. It looks and feels like a TNG episode, and it’s always a pleasure to see Q in all of his snarky, funny glory.

*pulls a chair out, sits you down and braces you for the usual middle finger to fans* It was... it was actually remastered back in 2000, but only for the japanese market. Its an interactive DVD rom, the audio can be set to english for the movie itself but the audio for the tricorder is all in japanese. The videos are 720p, 60hz and no it will never be released here because paramount seems to think "western audiences won't care about that, what they want is DIVERSITY".
I'm not really into star trek. But I would instantly buy a VR version of this.

One shame: the funniest cut scene is missing here. If you use the hypospray on your hand with the wrong setting, Q calls you an amateur and tells everyone to leave. The background music cuts off and the actors all walk away. Later, Q calls you over, sees that you are sad, and lets you try again.
I like the one where he goes and hangs out with all the Borg actors.
Love seeing the Voyager set from angles you never see on the show
You ain't lyin!!! It took me a minute to realize the set was based off of Voyager.
John DeLancie is so much fun to watch as Q. This would have been a top-ten episode just for him.
Blows my mind that some people hate Q
I hope that John de Lancie (Q) got paid well for this performance. He carried the entire game! As an aside, he helped get Kate Mulgrew (Cptn. Janeway) her job as they are close friends off the screen.
There are a few missing scenes I noticed:
1. You can use Biraka's phaser to kill him when you're first borgified.
2. You can attach the dead borg circuit yourself to the implant.
3. You can stun the (real) borg with the hypospray if you enter the right code. (But you get assimilated anyway...)
4. If you inject yourself with something that's not bijani adrenaline, there's a 4th-wall breaking scene where the entire cast just walks off the set.
Plus you can also delay shooting and hit the circuit so it can't be removed and hear Targus complain. Plus you can use the borg stun hypospray on yourself and Q tells you that it will kill you.
How the right decisions are.
Between fleeing and fighting: Pick the phaser.
How to fight the Borg: Pick the phaser
Saving Targus 1: Shoot the panel to fry the Borg. Don't shoot it directly.
Security Console: Remove the conduit, then assignable modules.
Turbolift: Input 150619
Control Panel with Borg Implant on it: Do nothing
Lt. Furlong challenges you to guess his card (after getting Borgified for the first time): Slug him one.
After slugging Ralph one: Pick up his hand phaser quickly and adjust the settings as quickly as possible
Which to run the implant through: Targus' implant
Saving Targus 2: Pluck the Borg Implant out directly
Borg drones approaching: Do nothing
Borg console: Left one, middle right two times, then right one, then middle left two.
Getting a borg circuit (after getting the wrong circuit for the implant): Stop Targus from firing
Hypospray: Bijani trance, left one, two right, then left one
Attempt to stun Q: Do nothing
Attempt to stun Borg drone: Bijani pain trance yourself
Qaylan-as-Sprint vs. Borg: Module shields and input 61330.
The game felt like a movie. Never realized the voyager sets were used here.

In the first "bad ending", after Q said "Don't even bother!" he should have also said "You blew it, kid!" before snapping his fingers and flashing away. It would have been just like him to say that, hahahah!
I was not expecting live action this looks like a game I'd love to play over and over again

love how the game literally says 'phasers are useless' then makes you choose shooting the borg with one straight after
It all made sense to me. One shot with each frequency of the phaser before the Borg adapts to that frequency. I didn't see more than one shot on any single frequency successfully hit a Borg target. The Borg weapon he attacks with after assimilation may be a different story though, not sure how that works.
I remember playing this as a kid on a demo PC in PC World. I never managed to get past that initial choice with the scanner and the phaser as both seemed to end in death. I distinctly remember the death scene with Q on a white background. Now I'm trying to work out what a similar interactive FMV on demo in PC world was around the same time. It was a sort of Indiana Jones scene played on loop all day long of a crashed plane in a jungle with an actor with a floppy leather Biggles style hat with undone chinstraps asking for a choice input that never came. He would then say something about "the early bird catching the worm" before the scene would repeat.
The science officer explaining the principles of adaptation at 5:34 is the same actor who played the Klingon who attempted to bribe Data in TNG season 6 episode 25, "The Chase".
I didn't check this video to see if the clip is in it, BUT there is one difficult-to-get-to clip. When you are on the Borg ship and you are trying to get a borg (module?) or whatever, and you shoot a borg drone, you can hit it exactly on the implant, which makes you retry again. It is just a clip that is a few seconds long and nothing super spectacular about it, but I am sure most people played this game up and down, and never saw that clip. Also, during the game if you type the cheat codes "HUGH", "BORG" and "OBEY" they help you skip or go back to parts in the game.
That itself would have made a great Star Trek episode.
Wow a few minor edits it could pass as its own tv movie!! :)
Good times with this game. It was terrible at times and difficult to set up during the Windows 95 days, but I loved it because fusing videos with video games is something I have always wanted. Love for tech novelty made it possible to see past it's flaws.

i like seeing the transportation being seen from the perspective of one of the people being transported. i think the other time we saw that was during one of the barclay tng episodes (the last i think).
Well the episodes almost never show first person perspective because that would just be weird.
For those of you asking about this video, it is a computer game built for the Windows 95 computer platform. It required a patch to be downloaded just to play the game on a Windows 98 computer (which I still have for games like these). Considering its age, this game format was ahead of its time. The same company produced "Star Trek: Klingon," with Gowron training you to be Klingon on the Holodeck. I have not seen later versions that could be played on newer computers or on tablets.
Watching that other video of the complete flawless run is great, but watching almost the complete game including the wrong choice cutscnes and Hitchhiker-esque scanner makes it even better.

Ladies and gentlemen... the rumors and myths are true. This was remastered partially, in japan with 720p, 60hz videos on DVD AND I HAVE IT! I cannot understand a single written word, the tricorder speech is unfortunately in japanese but if you watch this while playing it, fantastic guide.
20 years after I couldn't get past the scene on the Borg ship at 1:20, I finally get to see the ending to this game!!!

Dammit Q! Stahp ruining a proper Game Over. Q's role in this way is so damn clever.
Interactive gaming like this with VR and shot with 360 camera's could make a great return. It provides a ton of extra jobs for actors and actresses too.
Just think of the implications! A modern day solution for the lack of holodecks!
It would def. be the closest thing to a holodeck we could ever possibly have at the current time :)

If you don't watch all the "wrong choices" you miss the best parts of the film.

Creating Q is the best thing that Star Trek Next Gen did.

@@canzah5445 The Squire being a Q was just fannon, pretty sure. And I'm okay with that idea. But I'm not so hot on the idea of The Squire and Rogue Q being the same being. They act similar, but there's enough differences for me to see them as two separate entities.
Besides, it's not like there aren't plenty of other neigh-omnipotent aliens in Star Trek.
@@finn_underwood No, I'm saying that the writers explicitly said that when designing Q, they copypasted Trelane and just made a new "original" character with same personality and "shtick" as Trelane. I can link multiple anectodal pieces of evidence to this.

Back when we played Dungeons&Dragons.... our DM HATED star trek.... but he created "Q" in our world as his NPC "DM's excuse" he was Johny Nemonic.... a little bitty imp that's usually like 5-6 inches tall.... and he was before..... everything. He existed before there were even any of the "Gods" he does what he wants, WHEN he wants, had almost the same type of "humor" as Q.... and if he gets pissed a few dozen God's die if he gets in the mood to. I didn't notice it for a while but I was watching Star Trek and Q was on..... I was like OMFG! that imp is Q!!! lol. Funny thing is.... he made the imp and had no clue who "Q" even was so I made him watch a Trek episode lol. It sure made the game a lot more fun having "Q" around..... even if it wasn't Q! lol.
John De Lance is the only reason to play this game. Q is so funny!

God I love Q! And this story is actually really kinda touching, cause think about it, Why did Q do this at all? Go to all this trouble just to help this boy save his father and his father's ship? Its not the kinda of think Q would normally do, except he said it it the beginning, Q is partly responsible for Wolf 39, because he is the one who introduced Picard to the Borg. And while its true Q did that so that humanity would be aware of the Borg's existence in time to do something about it, thus ultimately saving us, it still caused the incident where so many died. And I think Q did feel partly guilty about that. And while he couldn't just swoop in and save everyone, corrupting the timeline, he could still do this, and save Someone. He chose to help this boy as a small act of recompense, and Its pretty awesome.
I also really loved the scene where they are talking about whether Q wants to be liked, because I think it was spot on. Q dose want to be liked, but I dont think he quite Knows how to really make friends. Its sad really, Q is so misunderstood.
Plus tricksters are just awesome.
Plus, Q proves that an ordinary human (a *teenager* no less) can eventually trial-and-error their way to success if they were given his powers. Of course he'd need to jump back in time to correct mistakes, Q is quite literally doing the same thing by exposing the Borg to the Federation.
Sure, many people had to die in that exposure, but as far as he's concerned, it's for the greater good of everyone else in the universe knowing how to fight them.
And in also doing so here, he just wrangled an entire extra ship who not only knows how to fight them as well, but a young cadet who through Q's powers "lives" through being Borgified, multiple times even, and that Bijani can survive said process.
John de Lancie really did yeoman's work on this one. I love his acting!

I remember seeing this on the shelf on sale, late 90s, DenDen Town, Osaka. The days foreigners had a hard time finding games in English, in Japan;)

This is kindof a prelude to Star Trek: First Contact.
This was my first ever experience with an FMV game back in 1997, at the time I had never played any for PC or any console (like the Sega CD). I messed up so many times trying to do the right thing, but later on I found a site with game walkthroughs. That was so cool!

I'm surprised they didn't run into the Doctor, Amy, Rory or the TARDIS, while on board the Borg Cube. (Read "Doctor Who/Star Trek TNG : Assimilation²")
(Man, for a "fixed point in time", the Battle of Wolf 359 sure gets a lot of revisits from time travellers)
Eh, to be fair, a cube is pretty huge.
There is no such thing as a fixed point in time.
Any change to the timeline that prevents the Borg from coming into existence would absolutely prevent Wolf 359 from occurring. Or any change that renders the Borg far weaker or causes them to be at war would prevent Wolf 359 from occurring. If the Enterprise E hadn't changed the timeline to prevent the Borg from assimilating Earth in the past then once again Wolf 359 would not have occurred because the entire human species would have been assimilated centuries ago. Do you now see why there is no such thing as a fixed point in time?
During the battle of Wolf 359 the duty uniform was the TNG style uniforms. These were the DS9/Voyager uniforms. They came later.
The phasers were also a later model of the type II. I guess the production staff didn't have access to earlier costumes/props.
Maybe this was the first crew to have the uniforms.
The game was made on a budget, they borrowed a lot from paramount studios... who at the time only had Voyager's sets and props on hand. The bridge is actually a slightly redressed set of the Excelsior bridge from the Voyager episode "Flashback", but if you look at the computer core room and the various corridors, they're sets from Voyager. The computer core room is actually voyager's main engineering, with the warp core closed off.
So, this is an FMV Star Trek Choose Your Own Adventure novel? COUNT ME IN! I gotta find this!
Check eBay - there is even an official interactive DVD version of ST: Borg.

Well, I got a copy of it, but the only issue now is getting a genuine Windows 95 machine...Won't run under Compatibility, and can't run it on a VM, either...soooo, at this point, I have three very pretty coasters. It refuses to run on my current hardware.
I prefer official Japanese DVD version. No problem with OS. I just pop it in DVD player and watch it like an episode with occasional interaction.

Adventure games with real humans, real actors! Star Trek: Borg, Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight, Wing Commander... Never again games were going to be as immersive, no matter how many GB of computer artificial graphics were involved.
Outside the Voyager uniforms (they should be TNG for the time) this game is great.

At the intro it shows you a galaxy class starship but when the cadet walks into the briefing room it looks very similar to the voyager briefing room

So, how many of these *Star Trek: Insert Race* name games were released? Was there a Star Trek: Romulan/Vulcan after Klingon and Borg? It's the first time I'm hearing about any of these games and I'm finding them quite fascinating so far.
From what i can tell there were only 2, Borg and Klingon, athough there is a game called "Star Trek: Klingon Academy" (according to the list on wikipedia which has pretty much every star trek game which ever came out on it)
@@pineappleroad Klingon Academy takes place before Star Trek 6 and details why Chang is interested in humanity and learned Shakespear.

Good old Q, screwing around with the universe and time for laughs since his introduction in The Next Generation.
This game was pretty interesting. Not the kinda game I was well anticipating but it's pretty good. I enjoyed the play through.
Q is the best I do miss my Star Trek next Generation and Deep Space Nine

I remember playing this game for hours. On a Sony Vaio desktop. All I remember was that the elevator code was 150619.
I remember One of the Star Trek The Next Generation video tapes had a commercial for this game and it really was a good way to promote this game because the way they set it up. the game story is one of the best in Star Trek History I like the Idea of Q giving you a chance to prevent the Borg from destroying your Father's ship and you can save his and the crew lives Really good storyline too
Game looks pretty funny. Good Longplay I'd probably never would stumble on this.

Q is the biggest ham to hit Star Trek since William Shatner.
I was half expecting the ending to just say "With such outdated technology, the righteous was no match for the borg cube heading to earth and was destroyed shortly after".
Yet they sent the Bozeman? That ship is several decades old, until they decommissioned the one the Enterprise found and made a new one?
I have to wonder if the captain is mentally fit to captain a starship. What kind of captain would allow an ensign to be in charge of security? Or order a small female to drag a heavy Borg off the bridge?
I didn't know you could piss off Q that early in the game. heheh
The best way to kill a borg: Throw water on them. Mmmm.... Fried Borg.
