    No matter what else you can say about Ren, his use of the space around him is simply beautiful and his commitment to the soul of the song is above and beyond, many artists wouldn't be content with the slight imperfections, Ren as the contradiction that he is, uses and enhances those imperfections to make the whole so much more perfect.
    And lets be honest, the mix of harmony and counter harmony is ..... *chefs kiss*
    Let the tears go man, we all felt them
    You nailed it, its a self reproducing sense of beauty of sound done like it is.

    When Ren mentions "Walking Chalk Outlines" and his references to pills it's the exact feeling I used to have when I was on different anti-depressants and anti-psycotic meds for PTSD and traumatic brain injury, you're literally the walking dead when you're on those meds. A walking chalk outline. I had zero feelings at all. Couldn't laugh at anything funny, couldn't cry when friends or family died, forget about anything sexual too. There was a chalk outline around the old noodle because I was dead downstairs as well haha. It sucked. Then I started to get what's called "brain zaps" where it fells like my brain was getting electrical shocks. Those were fun, especially while driving.
    It wasn't any type of existence I wanted to live. I was more suicidal then before I got on them. I started taking crazy risks just to try to feel some sort of emotion and there was nothing.
    I've thankfully been off of them for almost 10 years now. And as crazy as it sounds I followed the advice of a few close brothers I served with and other veterans who have told their stories on TH-cam about taking magic mushrooms and you trip your balls off, but it actually works. Well worked for me. And it's helped the horrible migraines too.
    But Chalk Outlines the song has to do with us medicating ourselves either through prescriptions or illegal means, and being a non feeling, walking zombie. And in my country especially it seems everyone is on prescription pills. Kids too.

    Another great and thoughtful reaction. The live version of 'How To Be Me' is another incredible emotional track about a friend of Ren's who committed suicide. It's as devastating as you can imagine. If you want a totally opposite side of Ren... check out 'Losing It' - Ren rapping overtop of a crazy EDM track by Aussie DJ Fisher.

    And Chinchilla is incredible. The live version of her song Fingers is 🤯. And both of them are completely independent. This was the promise of the internet for DIY artists in the beginning, and I’m happy to see it working for both of them.

People need a personal connection now more than ever. Hi-Ren just passed 10 million streams. That's not an accident. People seem to really connect with it.
      That kind of connection is something that major labels can only dream of.

    Ren's passion shines through in every musical performance I've ever seen him do. Simply, tthe man is music. Even when watching Ren perform covers, he's engulfe in the musical momment and it's surging through his body and writtten on his face. It's that passion that hypnotizes his audience pulling us into his art. These are 3 of my favorites of Ren busking on the streets of Brighton that I hope you watch either on here or in private. • @PrymalChaos
      @PrymalChaos  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks Duncan! Sometimes if you are in an environment like a shower or a stairwell etc and you are talking, you can hear a ringing sound. It's called a modal node or standing wave. It's basically where that particular sound frequency length is equal to the distance between two surfaces in the room and the sound bounces back onto itself creating a particular note that is amplified.
      I love playing a game where I identify that frequency and start humming it. It will gradually get louder. I have had entire carparks feel like they're vibrating from a relatively quiet hum. Makes you feel like Superman. 😆😆 Next time you're singing in the shower see if you can find a modal node!

    Can't wait for you to react to some of Ren's busking videos, both sol and various collaborations, including with his band "The Big Push". You'll be blown away by how incredible his voice is and how many voices, styles and tones he has! His performance skills are always first-class and he just oozes charisma. His instrumental skills are top-notch too! Ren plays about a dozen instruments well. Half of them RIDICULOUSLY well! All self-taught! You have yet to hear any of Ren's rap tracks. Believe me, he raps like a rap god! He also scats and beatboxes brilliantly. Btw, if you're wondering who does the production on any of his tracks, including on coolab's, it's, you guessed it, Ren. He's a brilliant producer and lays down all his own music/beats/audio. He directs most of his own videos, many of which, like the ones you've watched so far, are recorded live, in a single take! As you're beginning to see, Ren's songwriting is world-class! Especially his lyricism. He's a poet really and a bloody good poet at that! :)
    He does it all and does it all as a fully independent artist! No label. No financial backing. No PR machine. No management. Every label under the Sun has tried to sign Ren! He's turned them all down! With Ren it really is all about the music! The trials, pain and suffering in his life have crystallised his priorities and fame and fortune rank relatively low on that list. Family, friends, being able to create and doing what he can to make the World a better place, sit firmly at the top of Ren's priorities and not in a cheesy way, how your usual celebrity might say it but in a genuine and authentic way.
    Ren's a unique artist! A musical genius! A once in a generation talent! :)
    tl/dr - Ren's great! Ren's music is great! Definitely react to more Ren! You won't be disappointed. You WILL be surprised... constantly! :)

    For me, it's the lyrics above all. I first watched the non-live version of this song. That moved me even more than this live video, because that was my first exposure to the lyrics. Very few people have the capability to write like this. Like a Morrissey, e.g. Doesn't mean everything they do is greatness, but they have the capability of reaching that level, whereas the vast majority of songwriters (or poets or writers, or, for that matter, those in any field, period) simply do not.
    The melody is simple, but gorgeous. More conventional, but still gorgeous. Structure, similarly simple, conventional. The performance was committed, yes, but, for me, without these lyrics, would not stand out as extraordinary. Even the subject matter is not particularly remarkable, but how it is expressed, is.
    The busker you mentioned who plays with strangers I believe is Guitaro. Of the videos I've seen, I've yet to see a single moving performance, reverb or no reverb. I've wanted to, I've wanted the people singing to be really good, and the performances to be inspirational, but have always been left wanting. What they do more than anything is reinforce my appreciation for the capabilities of performers like So-Hyang, like Dimash, which are at the absolute pinnacle, in all facets of performance, technically, artistically, given the songs that they sing, though neither are the writers that Ren is.

    • @PrymalChaos
      @PrymalChaos  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's been a minute since I recorded this, but I think I was meaning the singer starts to feel themselves and let themself go.
      You are right though. Most people don't understand the depth of work, discipline and passion that is required to have "natural talent" like Dimash has. I think people have enough of a concept to say "oh yeah that singer really worked to get where they are) but I don't know that most people understand what that truely looks like.
      It really requires a superhuman level of focus and an inability to accept anything but perfection. Very few people are capable of that and they're usually on a podium at the Olympics.

    Ren doesn't make copyright claims. If someone else takes it upon themselves to make a claim on his behalf, just challenge the claim and Ren will strike it down automatically! Ren loves the reaction community and has thanked them many times for sharing his work. He's described it a mutually beneficial feedbac loop. He regularly comments on reactions to his work. Always positively whatever the react but tbf, most reactions are gushingly positive, lol. He's given interviews to several reaction channels and not just the big ones and he's had reactors on his livestreams. You really don't need to worry about copyright with Ren. If it's Ren's work and it's on TH-cam, he's ok with you using it and monetising it. :)

There's a decent quality lyrics vid out for it & it's charting.... but I'm going to suggest you hang on for a few days til she drops the OMV for it & do a reaction vid to that as a first listen. Thank you for this reaction - if you liked them doing this then you will surely enjoy them doing 'how to be me (live)' as well, its even more special.
    When you go back and look at Rens demos and songs from 7+ years ago you will hear well produced studio songs which still hit and do something special. Trust me - he has it all, and can do almost any genre.
    He's also a fantastic rapper, and as someone who has never previously enjoyed this musical genre, its a delight that Ren has shown how its grown to an artform.

      I think there may be dodgy entities claiming his videos. One of my disputes got denied recently. That actually happens fairly frequently on TH-cam. DragonForce had some knucklehead claiming the audio for one of their videos on their account recently.

      @@PrymalChaos man there are some ass hats out there, Ren is an independent artist who looks at the positives of reactors spreading the word, to Ren it's a mutually beneficial arrangement, he creates, reactors promote, fans like myself hit the thumbs up everyone's a winner....... the more people react to his music the larger and more diverse the conversation is, no matter who you are Ren has something to touch your heart. Since bumping into Ren last December and as an old, sick, disabled Veteran (who luckily, heard the voice) Ren has broken me on many many occasions, but more importantly has given me the realisation that things, no matter how bad or how dark eventually do get better.

    I really enjoy how you approach these tunes. You do some reading in and some reading out and that's important. Every song should be relatable in a way that draws an audience in, but there's also a need to stick to the song. There's a guy who keeps dropping stuff about hi Ren that is not in the text, and it causes a misinterpretation of the lyric. And the fucker is prolific too. He's in the comments A LOT (angel, demon, God "aspect" and he's wrong). May be a nice bloke but it's frustrating as a writer and reader to see people injecting something into the text that isn't there.
    Anywho... Thanks for not being that guy.
    One very interesting device is how the song is about how Zoloft (zitriline?) Makes you numb to the point of feeling dead, well when ren plays the chords in the beginning, he players 2 out of the 3 notes that make up a chord. He plays the root and the fifth. That's interesting because he skips the third. The third matters because if it's a major third, the chord sounds happy. One fret down and it's a minor third which makes it sad. I thought it was interesting and had to be deliberate that he did a song about feeling numb and then skipped the note that tells the listener if the chord is happy or sad.
    This cat is wild!
