As I understand it, the actual person under the hood is Romain Axisa who he lived with and later were in a band together in The Big Push. I heard in an interview this took 186 takes to get it right.
I think Romain is incredible in this video. You never see his face but he acts the shit out of this role! You feel as if you were him. Especially when he smells the petrol. 😮
You don't even know how fast I clicked on this when it came up 😂 and I'm also super excited for your reaction to part 2. Ren isn't afraid to say what he feels and point out truths others may tip toe around. Hes a master wordsmith, and incredible at everything he does. Inreally hope yo see even more ren reactions from ya, if you want something that is also kinda groovy check out his acoustic version of "murderer". It's definitely a bop and very chill. 💜💜
Hi PC, I think the masked person represents all humans and Ren in his role represents the power behind the old money game (that's why he wears green). He shows us when to play and how. "Point the mirror at ourselves" - the old forces behind the money game can't see us - only the masses, the mob. By drawing the eyes on this person, Ren (in his role as THE POWER behind all the misery in this world) realizes he must remove himself from the game in order for humans to be human again! That's how I interpreted this video. with my best wishes for you Greetings from Germany 👍🤝🫶
Terrific reaction! When you react to part 2 make sure you do MONEY GAME PT. 2 (OFFICIAL LYRIC VIDEO), not the LIVE version, which includes only about 1/3 of the song and has no music.
Man, besides Knox Hill your commentary is the only one I watch for the full length. Every second is worth it! Thank you for your thoughts and insights! You definitely earned that sub from me with your Ren reactions alone!
Wow, thanks! I know I can get pretty long winded, and I have battled with editing my stuff down in the past, but I feel like, maybe there is an audence for longer form reactions, just as long as work hard enough to make it worth their time. With artists like Ren it's fairly easy to do..
@@PrymalChaos true. Rens music lends itself to long and winding tangents! But as long as they are filled with insights and stories and emotion, I don’t mind. I’m fact I much prefer it to the typical: „ Wow, look at that, that’s pretty cool, he can play guitar! He can sing also! Wow best thing evaaaaa!“ one gets from far too many reactors.
Fantastic reaction again. I just love how Ren isn’t afraid to say how he feels and how alot of us fans feel about the world/government/politics etc. I cannot wait for part 3 next Thursday 🖤
Thank you for this amazing reaction….I’ve seen many, many interpretations of this but your idea of what Ren is saying is brilliant. He is an incredible storyteller❤
Please reach out tyo Ren and get him on for an inteview. It would be awesome. I can see a deep conversation happeninhg between you two. He is thre most excitng artist in decadfes. Im 66 and was so excited when u found his music. I dont watch violent moviies with hubby becvause I like mjovies with dialouge. Same for music.. it needs to speak to us, something very rarely heard today.
Subversion of expectations is a medium that Ren has mastered. Thanks Prymal... your reviews across all the music you review are wonderfully human. You have a good finger on that pulse... and it is great seeing your take on it.
So few people get the drawing eyes moment. You, as expected, absolutely nailed it. I said it before and I'll say it again: you're a very wise man. P.S. Fun fact: We finally got a starboard over at Chinny's and your post from April (!) was retroactively upvoted to it in a matter of minutes. ❤
Oh, and for what it's worth, you've been picking some of his hardest hitting stuff. The Love Music series is about his love of music and each of the songs are a bit of a bop. So if you're wanting something lighter, that'd be a direction to look towards.
This was great! You spoke about things that this made me feel that I haven't heard other reactors mention. I love that once Ren humanised the hostage he could no longer harm them. I didn't extrapolate that back to them representing different sides of himself, but that is an interesting concept. Thanks for your insight 😊
I think your interpretation is very valid. I saw the Buddhist monk during the Vietnam war that protested what was happening by immolating himself.. i saw Ren turn the mirror on himself. So pretty close!
Stopped watching another video when I saw this pop up! Can't wait to see you react to this one! Never disappointing. Always enlightening. And Ren is awesome, too! 😉
I emjoyed this reaction video ..loved your observations and commentary... I think ren is so talented and he does make it seem like its effortless ... I love how intelligent his lyrics are and I appreciate that he just trusts that we are smart enough to understand ... Ive become a little bitter at all the different ways others tell me what I should beleive.. its so refreshing to have someone assume I'm able to form my own oppinion or understanding .... Anyway, didnt mean to go off on that ...I just love all the different sides of Rens music and i especially like the songs where I am left with something to think about ...I hadnt thought of the guy with the mask as representing Ren before ...its what I like about watching reactors, seeing and hearing another point of view Thanks Peace ❤
for anyone that didn't see Ren live stream he said there a new tale coming but has nothing to do with Jenny and Screech and also he said he all ready working on his next album
Really great read on this one, I haven't heard anyone else pick up on the eyes humanising the hooded figure. I love that this one is so open to interpretation. He worked with a surrealist/dadaist director friend of his family and used to say this was the video he was proudest of conceptually. Now he says that Money Game pt3 (nit far away now!) pips it to top spot.
Its SAM who films most of Rens videos - and yes he is amazing- especially given how many of them are one takes. And I would say your ideas are more or less in line with what people generally think Ren is conveying.
If you're going to do Money Game Part 2 and haven't done it yet, please do this version: th-cam.com/video/YonS9_QJbp8/w-d-xo.html Even though it's the official lyric video, it's the most impactful, IMO.
Yes, please take notice of this! The lyric video is the best version to listen to first, to get the full song/full impact of the song. It's one of the rare (possibly only) situations where the live version isn't the superior (or equally good) one.
@@triggerhappysound as far as i know, it's the only live version that is just a portion of the song as well, its a neat video, but i think mebbe it shoulda been titled "sea shells" mebbe or something, even if its just adding a subtitle clarifying its only a part of the song, otherwise people usually assume its the whole song
There is an interview that was done just a few days ago between Joe E Sparks and Samuel Perry-Favian (I probably spelled his last name wrong, but you'll find it on Joe E Spark's channel). Roughly about halfway through the interview, these two film makers--Joe E, the interviewer, and Sam the filmographer who directed this video of Ren's--start talking about all the nitty gritty and quirky behind the scenes of the 167 or so takes that it took to get this one-take video done. It is wild, and I think you'll really like it.
Yay another Ren reaction! 😮❤ Ren is just something else, isn’t he? Clever, caring, and so damn talented. Looking forward to your next step down the rabbit hole 🐰🕳️
We (your subs and viewers), can always count on an excellent "feel" reaction from you Prymal. By that I mean you don't generally dissect the lyrics line by line as they are only one component of an MV. As stated by you and in many of the comments, art is subject to the interpretation of the consumer. While I also enjoy the way some reactors take a surgical approach to the melody, the lyrics or the song structure, as another here said, you are the one there taking the pulse. Thanks of course to Ren in this case, for providing the point of discussion. The internet can be a dangerous weapon, but platforms such as this, Discord and quite a few others often prove it to be a gathering of folks voicing very similar opinions from all corners of our globe (oxymoron intentional in support of the point being made).
@@MissyGail4eva Considering that Ren and his creation is the topic of discussion.... haha My wife likes to refer my validation of an opinion as "mansplaining" (not the first to use the term), so lack of impulse control to fulfill the need to explain a point is well defined as borderline psychotic.
Loved your reaction! The eyes are an interesting point. Not only does Ren recognize that the other side has a human face once he draws them; the seated character is not fully able to see what's coming and protect himself (blocks the gas can with the guitar) until his eyes are opened. The guitarist actually playing is Romain Axisa from The Big Push. I think he is meant to represent a sort of 'every man' rather than Ren himself. One of the points that he's attempting to get across here is to look at your own actions and keep your own side of the street clean. After all, if it were Ren under there, then why wouldn't he been okay with just burning the guy in the hood? By burning the 'every man', Ren would be the hypocrite. This isn't meant as a correction; interpretation is subjective. It's just another perspective to consider. Looking forward to part 2!
I really loved the baseball bat percussion element. However I think calling the track money game is misleading, it seems more about power & very reminiscent of the Buddhist monks self immolation as previously wrt the Vietnam war and NOW regarding the Chinese occupation of Tibet that everyone seems to have forgotten. Nice thought from you regarding humanisation and seeing people as a group but historically this is not what humans do. Given the choice to harm self or other it takes a brave artists to set themselves on fire, even if he doesn't but money is not a thing here. Money doesn't matter, some choose to be less charitable and ethical, some still have their own voice & its not money.
bradley from sublime had the same 'music in his bones' thing going....................... the music just flowed out of him, crossing genres like they didnt exist..............

I figured it had to be someone close to Ren, who understands how he approaches guitar. It's a fairly simple part but it just screams Ren.
