the greenscreen work is out of this world. like you putt os much care into matching the lighting and the color grading i've never seen a non profesional do it so well. i don't know if you have an editor or not but regardless that's super impressive
Brilliant analysis, especially the meta narrative. I was ten when I first played this game, and I’ve been trying to deconstruct it for 18 years since then, and you did it better than I did :)
I really look forward to your videos, interesting analysis and awesome youre talking about actual nuances and messages as opposed to another retro. You and internet pitstop give me inspo
Can't believe how good this game looks 19 years later, it is still stunning, still holds up. Great video, the green screen stuff was really well done and nostalgic for me.
i really really enjoy your media analysis... these metal gear videos have been really neat as someone without much exposure to the series besides the memes, eheh. also, your outfit is super cute! i like the cute bone tag. my tags are all circles or hearts ^-^
Excellent analysis. Really pointed some stuff out in this one that I hadn't realized myself. The moving spotlight shining on you at 10:04 is a nice touch.
I finished Metal Gear Solid 4 on the 19th of this month and I was desperate to look for some essays to watch (I already knew about the existence of the classic "MGS4 was a mistake" but I didn't watch it until now due to laziness) and I found your old one with that thumbnail "Let It Die ". I was immediately interested in watching it and it was, so far, the best video about MGS4 that I've seen. It drives me crazy how MGS2 had its moment of revisionism but MGS4 still suffers from an enormous unwillingness to interpret the obvious (which is a game about wearing down to the last ash all these figures and signs from the series' universe; ancient existences having to adapt the new war economy, etc.). After this video I saw that you also had a big essay on MGS2 (the first you did) and I went to see it because I was thirsty for more MGS content written by you. And when I went to see what you were posting recently, I was thrilled to see that you had come out as trans, after hearing you talk about how MGS2 impacted your life, it makes so much sense. I spent the last week waiting for this MGS3 essay and I was very happy when I saw it came out, honestly you are perhaps the content creator abt games that I most like to hear talking (alongside with Tim Rogers), because your vision is very similar to the one I have about a lot of things within Kojima's layers of meta narrative and post modernism. I think most people stay too much on the surface of what the expository dialogue is or isn't saying, and forget to think about what exists beyond the video game's digital barriers. You are the best because you understand how to see beyond. You're pretty good!
It's oddly terrifying how much of Metal Gear is Kojima venting about his abusive relationship with Konami, the military industrial complex being the market demands for more Metal Gear, more content, and he's haunted by his magnum opus
@chandllerburse737 I an speaking metaphorically. Figuratively, Oppenheimer is a story about a project director making something incredibly successful at the cost of the time spent with his family and the respect of everyone who cared about him, and he wishes that the world would stop asking him to make more of what he made because he's haunted by it. Literally, Oppenheimer is a movie about a guy who made the atomic bomb. Literally, The Metal Gear Solid Series is about a family of supersoldiers who at various points in near history and the near future kill a bunch of people to prevent the breakout of nuclear war, but their lives are irreparably changed in the process. Figuratively, Metal Gear Solid is an autobiographical allegory about a project director being incredibly successful at creating this thing, and people are asking him for more, and he digs deep to make more of it, but he and his team never go home, the public doesn't care about the deeper meaning, and every unit in the series strays farther away from the heart of the discussion, leaving the games and the man as shadows of their former selves
The content of your videos is always super fascinating but I also want to shout out the look of them too. Always very well done and interesting whilst not distracting me from the content (except when that one scientist walked on screen, that made me jump)
Minor correction mostly for engagements sake. At 2:30 you call the Philosophers’ Legacy a microchip. It’s actually a microfiche, essentially a very small photograph of a document or group of documents that can be more easily preserved and transported than their larger originals. I’d go on a whole long ADHD-fueled infodump about it but I don’t know enough to say anything of value.
OH MY GOSH I FOUND YOU AGAIN! I remember loving your stuff and left due to being Transphobic. Now I am trans and Im back loll! Amazing work! I cant wait to catch up on the backlog.
I was busy doing something during the intro and when I came back, I thought she was talking about actual history and I was like "THE METAL GEAR IS REAL???"
I hope you'll make a video about peace walker too. I was never able to play it and watching a gameplay video wouldn't be the same. Also I couldn't figure all these things out by myself. Please 🥺
I was thinking about how franchises in general get stale with time because they get into a formula that they just repeat over and over. Even worse than that, franchises copy each other so it ends up rendering everything stale.
Hey, I just discovered your channel through this video and I wanna say that I really love it. I love your analysis and how you not only analyze the deeper metas of the game and how it ties into the others in the series but also what it might say about the state of Kojima/Konami at the time of its creation, while mgs3 is eternally praised for its story I've never thought about its parallels with the first metal gears, or how it could also represent the consequences that come with becoming a popular series, entering a cycle that is becoming increasingly hard to break out off but also increasingly more miserable, you really have some wonderful points. I love your setups, even if it's a smaller part of the video I love how you match in-game scenes/sets with the lighting/editing in your recording, it's simple but very effective and nice attention to detail. I'm definitely going to watch your videos on the other mgs', mgs2 has a special place in my heart so I'm especially excited for that. I can't wait to see you analyze the rest of the games of the series, and whatever you plan to do next. You're an awesome creator and I hope you know that, thank you for sharing your thoughts with the world, I love 'em, you've absolutely made my day. Take care!
I absolutely love this game, but lately it's been depressing me. Half the time it's really fun, especially when I'm acting like a dickhead and getting away with it. But then I remember how it ends, and I start wondering why I'm putting Snake through it again.
recently ive played metal gear, mgs1, mgs2, and mgs3. I'm in the middle of metal gear 2 right now my question is, what makes Big Boss a "villian" persay (from the perspective of someone playing mgs3 when it came out, assuming mgs4 and 5 dont exist)? All we've heard about him in mgs1 and 2 is that he is a legendary soldier and wanted to create a country where soldiers could be valued. Obviously he was messing with other countries in metal gear 2, but with the patriots revealed in mgs2 it is hard to say that him opposing the united states makes him a "villian". Just curious how where this mentality comes from, and no spoilers for 4, 5, or peace walker pls.
Oh n coming back after being a bit more educated and seasoned with mgs the summary you made of the cobras and their job of "die so we can get money and a better soldier than you"
Please never apologize for taking your time to make such great videos :)

I love the small details in this video, it's so fun
Like the lighting changing on you when the floodlight moves around 10:20
That’s a really fascinating interpretation of the whole “scene” theme that I’ve never thought about before. This deserves way more views than it has.
the greenscreen work is out of this world. like you putt os much care into matching the lighting and the color grading i've never seen a non profesional do it so well. i don't know if you have an editor or not but regardless that's super impressive

I'm proud of you for not playing Snake Eater as the background music for the entire video. As a Metal Gear fan I know that took restraint
The editing, my god, the editing! Damn fine work, even more than usual.
I love the Johnny in the cell background 😂 thank you for a great video of my favorite video game ❤️
Omg the backgrounds really make this video 😂

so, he told the story of Oppenheimer (2023) but a couple decades earlier and in a way that people will remember forever

Id like to thank you for your quality gaming videos, its rare to find these days.
