- This documentary gives a nice overview of the history of the volkswagen beetle. It contains unique footage of Ferdinand Porsche standing near a pre-war beetle. Before the war this was called the KdF Wagen.
"....It had no frills"
For me, that is the biggest frill about this car.....that it had no frills!
hooked for life
Agreed, so interesting as i never knew so many things about the VW till now, my 1st car was a 61 bug. Such classic and correct information!!!
أجمل وأرقى سيارة شعبية صنعت على مر ألتاريخ وبلا منازع..انها أعجوبة تستحق كل الاحترام..مع التحية لكم من بغداد ألعراق
The history behind the bug makes it more appealing to buy then other cars
Thanks for posting these vids!
Hitler may have been a big admirer of Henry Ford, but the assembly process in the factory that this movie shows was far more handcraft-y than a Ford plant ever was.
Yeah baby! Check out the sweet ole bus (Type 2) at 13:13! I am currently rebuilding my motor for our 66 Split window bus with Westy canper kit! Life is good and VW rules! As our bumper sticker says...Too slow...Too bad! In closing let me just say, the wheels on the bus go round and round! :)
Ledwinka surely made a lasting design.
Porsche admitted "Well, sometimes I looked over his [Hans Ledwinka] shoulder and sometimes he looked over mine" while designing the Volkswagen Type 1.

the KdF Kaefer/ Beetle becomes popular after the war and move to America
So at 1:28 the VW was the 1st & original "clown car" with immense clown carrying capacity! =D
I have owned many VWs my daily driver is a 64 beetle Ive had for the last 8 years, I would love a split window mit 2 litre shoe horned in the back.
@ 14m I too loved to run the Beetle up and down the mountain including the winter...air cooled
i used to have a vw thing. a work collegue had a ford 4x4 that he drove into a ditch. he dared me that i couldnt pull him out. did that and even towed him to the dealer. couldnt kill my thing.
Coincidentally, Hitler’s nickname among his friends was “Wolf”. So it’s strange that the factory city he established happens to bear his nickname.
@themooddisorders You're welcome!!!
WOW !!!
11:54 apart from the Skoda too!
For some reason, I can't find (1/3) here. (2/3) and (3/3) yes...but not #1. It USED to be here...but for some reason it's gone. Can you repost it?
still gone, over a year later... guess this is a dead channel..
VW's greatest design was it's squareback in the 60's. Much more ergonomic than the original design and quite stylish, but didn't sell because they still didn't have a water-cooled engine.
...23.000000 built!!!
