In this episode, we do another wall of mortar chinking, this time using a wire mesh to hold the mortar together. We then build a new set of front stairs off the south side of the porch that leads directly to the garden. We also increase our solar power capacity using the Jacker Explorer 2000 Plus. We finish the video by installing out bathtub, the drain, and the shower curtain.
Welcome to our channel! This Log Cabin Project is a dream that we have had for several years that we finally decided to make a reality. Our goal is to build a tiny log cabin from scratch using as much material from our land as possible. We are building it entirely using hand tools (no chainsaw!). This cabin will function fully off-grid and will be only accessible by foot. Subscribe to follow our journey!
We are learning a lot as we are doing (as always), so don't hesitate if you have any questions, it will be a pleasure to share tips and tricks, if possible.

Wow, just wow! Look at what these amazing folks have accomplished all on their own. It's truly inspiring to see what can be achieved with passion, determination, and a little bit of elbow grease. Their remarkable work is a shining example that reminds us to never underestimate the power within ourselves to create something truly extraordinary❤😊

    Very good work
Watch you and your wife build your cabin, it was nice to see you guys not put dead lines on yourselves.....no drama.
You are both very good at messaging, amazing job of sizing logs for the floor.
House went together with very little talking.
Very impressive, thanks for sharing, only one fear , putting plastic on the underside of the roof in winter will cause the house to sweet.
Moisture from our breath needs to get out, it may take a year or two before you notice that.
All in all very good workmanship

The cutest couple ever, patience and perseverance, My father was a General contractor so we’re my 4 Brothers, me being the girl, I worked on every job site, it was so rewarding and an absolute pleasure to get to work as a team with my family, I am so proud of you two, I know you have worked on other jobs as well, you just know way to much not to,, I’m 70 yrs now and I remember using all the same hand tools, really satisfying to watch you and brought back so many wonderful memories, God bless you both, keep up the great work, can’t weight to see the inside of your beautiful home

Congratulations you two. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. It is a testament to you both that you decided to redo the chinking. This new application looks much better and will provide that protection and loss of heat in the winter. Working in northern Canada in bug season is really hard. I know, living in northern British Columbia, Late May and June was for determined heroes. It is a wonderful feeling building and learning as you go. My husband has long passed, but we had some wonderful 40 years. Keep at you both, right now you are just thinking about building your own home, but you are really building memories - and they live forever ❤❤

Hello Nick and Maela: another thank you for bring us a long while you two are building your home. I really like the way this cabin is coming out and the care that you two are putting into your new home. Have fun and take a few breaks along the way but you are making a lot of progress and doing things the best way and this cabin should last for a long time. I am very happy for both of you.
Don't take chances and work smart like both of you have been doing. Keep safe and I will see you next time.

So happy Canada Day if I have that right !!😊. I could watch the two of you work all day long because you seem to be in sync with each other. I’ve said it 100 times, but I’m gonna say it again the two of you absolutely impress me. Catch you on your next video and in the meantime, may God continue to bless both of you. ❤😊👏✌🏼😎🥇🥇🥇

I discovered your chanel by accident , it was the one that you were first building the cabin. I fell asleep watching some other vlogs, and woke up 2 am and there you were! I just closed the laptop, and when I woke up I watched the whole thing, and after one other (this one) I subscribed! I love what you guys are doing, but what makes any chanel a keeper for me is the people , and you two are awesome and I love watching! Im glad I have lots to catch up on, so you will be hearing from me soon!

Hi Nick and Maela, right at the end of this video you show a picture of a flower or more importantly an orchid. I love orchids and used to grow the type that grew above the ground. New Zealand has orchids, mainly terrestrial's ( like the one you show) and can be difficult to grow in cultivation. I was surprised one day to see one type growing in our little patch off native plants but like all good things, they haven't shown up for the last couple of year. I have only seen pictures of orchids like the one shown in your video and am not sure if they grow in a pot, so,please look after what you have and hopefully you will see it again but more of them. You both are doing a wonderful job and I like watching your video's. Thank you.

I love your channel and your workmanship is outstanding.
My first question was going to be about the fires, thanks for your comment on them.
I would love to know how your chinking works out. I put chinking on a lean-to (three sided log structure) and I used two different materials, Mortar mix and the other was a USG product Wood Fiber Plaster.
My log were not dry so as the logs dried the chinking would pull away. Personally I liked the wood fiber plaster better. I used light weight chicken wire wadded up and where the chinking caught the wire it stayed pretty well. I think your bent over nails will work. Please keep us posted.

Amazing build by Canadian couple, really enjoyed watching the whole process start to finish. Seriously long though maybe somehow cut it down a bit into segments of 30 to 45 minutes long. Appreciate you sharing this. You are one of the most patient couple building such an off grid house. Awesome Canadian outdoors too as always. Thanks new subscribe here looking forward to your future adventures in the wild outdoors.
