In this episode, we start planting the garden, started from seeds indoor in the spring.
We cleared up the space around the cabin and continue to accumulate firewood.
We install a curtain door for the bathroom.
Finally, we install knotty white pine tongue-and-groove panels on the ceiling.
Welcome to our channel! This Log Cabin Project is a dream that we have had for several years that we finally decided to make a reality. Our goal is to build a tiny log cabin from scratch using as much material from our land as possible. We are building it entirely using hand tools (no chainsaw!). That field of what looks like foxgloves and daisies was so pleasant. A pollinator's dream.
We cleared that space for our garden last year! Clearly the flowers took advantage of it ahaha It was absolutely dreamy.

Hello Nick and Maela: you two did a very nice job on the installation of Tongue-and-groove boards on the ceiling. Very careful with the messagements and the cutting the boards straight: very good job. When you step back and look at what you did with this ceiling, outstanding work. You two should be very proud of the work you are doing and the way this project is coming out. Also I love the way the curtain was hung for the bathroom, using the curve branch. Your home is coming along beautifully, the ceiling looks so nice, you two always do such a nice job. Enjoyed seeing your raised bed gardens, mine are coming along nicely, I have made tomato soup and tomato juice from my tomato plants.

Glad to hear your garden is going well this year too! Sadly, ours is struggling... The soil isn't nutritious enough and the mice and rabbits are having a field day in our lettuces, cucumbers and beans. Better luck next year, I guess!

As I watch you guys "struggle" with your hand tool work I have a couple of tool suggestions that'll help you as you move forward with your builds, a shaving horse and a couple of saw benches. The ceiling looks nice. Thanks for the episode.
I was thinking the same thing about the shaving horse but I didn't know what it was called.
Indeed! We used to have those two things, but we build them ourselves from salvaged woods and after 2 years of constant use (and abuse), they're all broken. We do need to fix them ahaha

Splitting wood makes it burn faster. If it fits through the hole put it in and save wood.

You can plant your tomatoes deeper if you can they get a bigger root system. Give a good organic fertilizer. Looks like your doing ok in the cabin .

That was a really fun video! The trip carrying the tongue and groove in fast motion was really cool and I loved the hammer and saw sound effects. The ceiling looks so good guys! After watching the last couple videos, if I needed solar I would definitely buy Jackery!

We built a house way out in the sticks in 1982. Then we had kids. We moved to the suburbs in 2000 for the kids to go to a better school.

Thank you! And yes, definitely. We're waiting, because we're thinking of changing the entrance from the ''front'' of the woodshed to the ''back''. We didn't consider the snow falling off the roof during winter, so at every snowfall we got a bunch of snow going into the woodshed. Oops ahah

Я прошу извинение, но Шпунтованную доску прикручивают или прибивают на 2 гвоздя или шурупами, не по средине, а по краям... иначе их поведет, так как на потолке теплее, чем внизу!!! И ещё... когда Вы делали пол, гвозди прибивают не вертикально, а под углом от прибитой доски, тогда меньше будут отверстия между досками позже!!! Удачи!!! Жду новых роликов!!!

I really admire the craftsmanship you achieved in your cabin. I’ve only seen 2 things id do differently. One, I would have weatherproofed the subfloor on the deck before planking it over, because you’re going to track in snow in the winter. The other is I’d add small diagonal braces at the outside ends of your deck. I looks pretty sturdy and the roof planking helps, but it feels like it should be braced along that long edge.
Also, now that you can charge one, you might invest in a medium sized electric chainsaw for your firewood. You’ll still spend a lot of time hauling and splitting, but a saw will free up a lot if your time for other things.
The cabin is looking great inside and out it was a difficult task hardest work was cutting all them trees peeling the bark off the logs putting the cabin together

Love the house ! Maybe with the mortar mix maybe you should put it in the crack between the logs and while it is still wet
then put the mesh in and then the top coat ! This will stop gaps and air pockets from being behind the mesh ! Look forward to more videos !

Thanks for watching :) We're not planning on treating the columns, yet! We did saw one bear on our land, but in our section of Canada, we only have black bears, which we're not worried about. As for the bottom of the cabin, yes, we do plan on closing it with some metal mesh. We had a porcupine going under the cabin and eating our wood, waking us up at 1 am.
