All your mentioned new options would be a very nice addition and make it even more useful and divers without compromising easy of use :-). I really hope Zero Zero Robotics will incorporate these in future Software updates! That would make it even more awesome.
Im 67 and i would love to get into simple drone photography. I really like this little drone. It provides the limits of where I want to take drone photography. However, in over 40 years of innovation the savvy investor in most things, does not want to ride the wave of innovation. As a colleague of mine said ' always ride the second wave of great ideas' This could be a game changer for the thousands ( millions?) who want to enjoy and participate in drone photography without investing in version 1.0, which will always be a bit flawed. I'll await updates based on the volume of feedback before investing. A really neat little drone all the same.
It definately feels new and possibly on the bleeding edge vs cutting edge. With that being said, it has performed well and works nicely for how we like to use it
I've found the same problems and made the same recommendations, plus on that would allow the user to "chain" several modes together. For instance: The user chooses "Zoom Out", "Follow", "Side Follow" and "Dolly Track" and an elapsed time for each to allow for a smooth flow of a scene without having to edit each track. I've tried each by stopping and remaining in place between modes and it never edits right.
I've had my X1 for a bit and have come to a conclusion or two about it. First is that this device is what I would call a "critical build". By that, I mean the power to weight, balance, motors and batteries are all critically balanced to work "as is". In other words, it's pretty close to being at a hardware limit, by weight. This is why it has a short flight time. It was designed for a small battery size and weight. I guess what I'm saying is that I don't see them adding weight without a complete redesign... NOT an upgrade. Even some added collision sensors may upset the battery life. Even a denser battery (milliamps) will add weight. Another item is the build quality vs. "user" fiddling around. Take a REALLY good look at this build... Can you see yourself replacing a motor on this ?? I wouldn't even try... That all having been said, this little buzzy thing can and will have software updates galore. This will be it's biggest draw. Not to mention that in most countries there is no paperwork or registration (yet). I see some potential in free flight mode when they come out with a simple wi-fi small game controller or something. Now, it does send a video feed to your phone. (Yep) But I think it's digital and has quite a bit of latency. Still, for video purposes, it's fine. Faster response is better but isn't all that easy to do. I kind of cringe when folks say this is a beginner drone.. No, it's a camera. A Whoop is a beginner drone, not this. If you want to free fly like a quad, you wasted your money on this. For 400USD, you can buy a fairly damn nice FPV quad. Who knows where they go with this. I think they have the hardware already to make a free-flight only version, with a control unit that receives a fast analog video signal while it stores the HD video onboard. Maybe an "X2" model will go in that direction... I love this little thing...
Very thorough assessment, thanks! We're still testing it's limits...kind of risky, but what fun is it to just film yourself sitting in an open field...Also very interested where this will go. They just need to improve their customer service...especially as more and more folks will likely need repairs!
I just bought myself one. Can I ask what would happen if the drone gone beyond the allowed distance/height? I watched other TH-cam videos, a few users said that if the drone is at maximum distance, it gets disconnected from the phone and we can't control it to come back to where we are. May need to go recover it, and it doesn't take command from the phone to land etc... If that's true, it's very scary.
If I understand correctly, you're having issues with controlling the X1 with your phone (Manual Control). If yes, what works for us is to pair and connect our phone to the X1's WiFi network. It also prompts me to enable bluetooth and location. You might have to make sure your phone switches from your home network to the X1 network address by looking in your WiFi settings. We are not experts, but this works for us. Good luck
No. However, it does have sensors that enable the various auto modes. These sensors do recognize obstacles beneath it and the X1 will rise to avoid those. In use, you have to be aware of obstacles in its flight path
It is pretty delicate and can't bang it around carelessly. Not necessarily cheap plastic but light plastic. The blades being in a cage helps protect them. I think the most damageable part is the gimble
@@WillowWalksTheAT if it’s beneath it’s because it’s a vision based positioning drone not gps. It uses a sensor on the bottom to see the ground and thus hover. But if you fly this thing at a wall it will hit a wall, it has no obstacle avoidance.
@@jnelson854 Good explanation! Per the video, that's what I recommend they provide an option to turn off in Manual Mode so you can fly it through tight spaces. Watch the linked Porsche video to learn more
It has been (just a little) interesting seeing how some love it and some scoff at the concept. I think level of satisfaction with the X1 depends on user understanding and accepting it's capabilities and limitations before purchase. Hopefully the YT videos out there help people decide if the X1 would meet their expectations. Definately best to find it on discount too.
These are awesome ideas. I haven’t found the company to be very responsive to direct emails, but I would email them … over and over.
I totally agree that "side follow" would be a great addition.
Thank you for lesson, I'm beginning, going getting the Promax model gonna release month or 2, two, gonna use your knowledge

I'm getting the new one come out Promax model in next few days launch release day, Good information
I agree with everything you said! 😊👍🏻

I believe this is actually the 2nd version, as it was initially called the Passport?
@bigglyguy8429 Not sure but very possible
If can program a pathway for it to fly and stop . Then repeat the same pathway for action shots .

That's a great idea...had not thought of that

When mine gets to max height or distance it just stops and I can still control it to bring it back...no issues
ohhh that’s comforting… thanks a lot for the tips
Why doesn't it let me use free mode without WiFi? I can only use it at home with WiFi, why? any solution? thank you!

This looks like flimsy plastic, easily broken! Is it??

Quite a ton of reviewers have crashed it loads with minimal scratching.
Drone does not have obstacle avoidance lol
yeah...whatever you want to call it...it jumps when detecting something underneath it while moving in manual mode...they don't call it a Drone lol

Better camera and batteri time. And a realistic Price. For now it’s just a overprized toy.
