Okay, had it for a week now, and tested it in nearly all the places I go. The simplest of demonstrations. Tried it in the house downstairs, then even went up the stairs and it adjusted. For all questioning the price or commenting on feature set: As an owner of over a dozen drones at all price points I get it. However, looking at this from a tech-spec perspective is not going to lead you to the right conclusion. The old phrase "it's not what you have, but what you make of it" applies here - this is a unique combination of mid-level camera/control features with advanced autonomous flight software that makes for a very compelling use case. The ability to deploy from your pocket in less than 30 seconds and capture a special moment wherever you are is something that other drones, even "mini" models, can't match. Also, there is a remote available but I consider it a non-necessary addition - this is not a drone designed to be manually flown. It is designed to be a flying camera unobtrusively capturing your moments on its own. Until you've used one yourself it is difficult to convey just how different an experience it provides.
There was a version of these phone-only control selfie drones issued several years ago for similar exaggerated prices. This 1 seems to work somewhat better than that 1 which died a death because of its many limitations and Ap bugs. It ended up being discounted from its hundreds of dollars original price to scrap price. Or less even - I ended up with 2 for AU$19 each delivered from Kogan. Good value for 4 brushless motors and props, 2x 7.4v lipos and even a nice case. 😉😊

But the price between $325.00 and $390.00 US, their are just better options out. But if you're not into drones I could see this bring a great vacation camera.
@@Grandinoneday DJI, in the used market. I purchased my Mavic Mini on eBay, over 5 years ago, and it's still running great today. That cost me about $200.00 for the "fly more" kit that came with 2 extra batteries and the 3 battery quick charger. I still use it today.
Mine is on the way. I am going on vacation to the Caribbean I decided this was the perfect selfie device to bring with us. One thing I know will be a challenge…the wind. In that part of the world, it’s beautiful. But the tradewinds are there constantly. This means there will be many times that I can’t fly the device. Add to the fact that we will be spending a lot of our time on a Catamaran, and now water is part of the picture. Drones and water generally don’t mix well. So, I plan on taking my opportunities to film with it on land…when we are taking our island visits. It’s very small, so if I can’t use it, fine. But I do think there will be times that I will be able to use it. Possibly early in the day would be my guess. Cheers!
Fantastic, thorough review as always, Cap'n - and what a cool little drone. I could definitely see this being great to have on vacation, a very impressive little piece of tech. Thanks, and happy flying!
I purchased one of these drones several months ago and I think it's the cat's meow. 🙂 I can fly it in manual mode even though I fell prey to a crippling stroke two years ago (03-21-22); it's great to be able to fly it with one hand. 😀
I was hoping you'd do a review of this, I appreciate how you do reviews and your additional personal comments. That said, I see this drone in my future. I don't worry about the quality of the video because review has said mostly the same thing about it, as you did. For the target platforms (YT, FB, IG, X, etc.) this will work great, keeping in mind some adequate post processing. I suspect in a crowd this may have some challenges, it would be nice for someone to test that out. Like, will it work at a festival of some sort, or perhaps a large gathering like a company picnic or even a protest (very fashionable these days). If it can work in a crowd, the audio feature will set this apart I think. Well done, enjoyed your review.
I really thought the video would be a snarky review, based on the title, but you explain what it is and what it isn't. The lack of a direct remote control kind of terrifies me.
Good review as usual. Thanks! Decent drone, definitely fills a niche between having your phone or camera and a selfie stick or tripod at one end, and a 'real' drone at the other, that will get you shots neither of these options can get you. So it's useful. That price though, yeesh.
Pretty good vid Steve .... Just a slight observation though - The Vile screeching noise this drone makes ..renders it useless for Vacation VIDEOS ....and therefore its a pretty expensive altenative to a - Selfie stick to take stills ....
Gopro needs to buy them out and stick their sensors and image stabilization in there. Imagine a GoPro version of this thing! Still its a pretty cool little drone as is
People who know drones, would never buy this over a mini 2. If it cost $100 or $200 it might be more reasonable. Wonder how many they have sold? Good video as always Steve.
I own many drones, including the Mavic 3 Pro. I also own the HoverAir X1, and it is well worth the price. Its value is in its unique use case - it fits in your pocket and can be taking cinematic video within 30 seconds of pulling it out. That opens up so many opportunities that would have been lost with a more traditional drone.
Wow, slow down there Tex. A mini 2 and this drone are two very different drones. The people buying this are those with a purpose for a selfie drone. A mini 2 is a drone not accepted at most vacation tourist locations, nor is it as portable as this one.
@@shb7772000if You stand on one spot and fly your drone around a bit. But go on a bike trip 100km a day and you soon find out why something like this Hover AirX is much more practical, read 'faster'. Can use it 20 times a day. No phone needed, no calibration, no wait for satellites, no settings you all to go through, no 'no-fly zones'. If takes minutes to launch for a quick shot you're just not gonna bother and ride on. Besides the Mini 2 doesn't even have a tracking or follow-me feature unless you buy a third party app like Litchi or Maven. Try tie the controller with phone to your handlebar. And I may be wrong, but I see very few people flying a DJI Mini manually while riding a bike. My guess is it is not that easy to fly smooth at the right speed. Not saying this Hover AirX is perfect. I would like to see a controller if you want one. And GPS so you can also increase distance and have GPS follow-me. The ideal hiker/biker drone hasn't been made yet. Shame because I could tell the Chinese exactly how such a drone should look like. All technology is already there on pretty cheap drones. They just have to put it in one package. Don't need 4k 6 fps, or obstacle avoidance, or 5km range. And BTW DJI's active-track is useless in real life. Soon people find it annoying having to stop every time. For example try use the inner-outer circle thing in the Mini 4 app on a touchscreen while riding a bike. Impossible. Lets face it, DJI are not hiker/biker drones. Could be so much better.
@@shb7772000ifIt is a classic Western Movie phrase from days of old when a supporting character was saying something excitedly good, although it was missing the point of what the main character was saying.
Very good review, Thanks, I agree with all you've said. I would like to add a couple comments tho. I too have been using one for about 6 months and have taken more than 200 clips with it.. It was great at the park since kids love to let it chase them around so mine has crashed dozens of times into monkey bars and things like that.. I found learnng to fly it manually a bit awkward but useful if you want to say do a survey of your roof and gutters. and will it take much longer video clips if you do that, or use dolley track mode.. It does handle wind well, and is still pretty stable in significant winds. There is no collision avoidance detection in it so it will fly into branches, cars, walls etc.. and tumble down without recovering. Sadly it will often delete those videos which would be interestig to watch, but are auto-deleted as it falls to the ground. if you're cutting tight cornes and it's tracking you it's liable to clip something because it only tracks you .. it doesen't see obsticals as do many more expensive drones. . I wish that it recorded the pre and post flights 2 seconds longer before shutting the camera off because it often clips off the take-off's and landings and any transitions between Zoom-in and Zoom out. The other thing you may find can happen is this:.. if you're in follow-me mode and your subject stops abruptly the X1 can bump into the back of the person's head and it's prone to grab any long hair and wind it into the prop motors. It didn't hurt, but would not fly after that until I got a very very tiny torx screw driver bit and was able to carefuly remove the 6 bottom cage cover screws and the three motor mount screws to be able to access and carefully unwind/remove the strands of fine hair wound into the two front motors.. Now it flies fine again.. but I did notice three spots where the cage support braces had broken during prior crashes. It's likey due to bumping into branches and car's and things over hard ground and they will break if it falls a long way. .. but it's now flying fine again and I really like it a LOT. The X1 can shoot about a dozen or more short videos before you need to unload/erase them. It auto-updated the firmware easily about 6 times and I'm now on version 7.4.1 . I hope they fic the video clipping issue but am happy with everything else it can do which is a LOT! Thanks jimS
It takes the fun out of it, not being able to control it yourself with a controller. It defeats the purpose, atleast my personal opinion. Well once again it's be a pleasure watching your videos cap. I see your growing a goat tee/ beard. Looks good.thank you.
Actually you can absolutely control it with a controller! There is one that people buy for the switch. It’s called the 8Bitdo. I’m going to first try out my xbox wireless controller on it when it arrives tomorrow. Mine is both bluetooth and 2.4ghz so perhaps it will work. You need to use the “custom” function and attach your controller through that part of the menu. Regarding the brand I mentioned, there are at least several different versions. The one I heard works is the micro version. It’s very small with no knobs. But like I said I’m going to see what the best option is. Google Bard AI says that multiple options are reported to work by various users. Cheers!

Heh I just seen this in an ad on Instagram yesterday and you are the first video I watched of it. Enjoyed it and you were very thorough. Great job. I was wondering though do you need part 107 like other drones to put your videos on TH-cam ?
The manufacturer (Zero Zero Robotics) had a couple of earlier models that has some of the same features more primitively implemented, but the HoverAir was released only about 8 months ago.
HCP (Short for ; well you know what!!) amazing piece of kit however with all of its advanced features you can now buy a Mini 2 fly more combo in Australia for a similar price!!!!
Mini 2 and the Hover are for two totally different purposes. Those who need the benefits of the Hover will get it. And those who don’t will get the mini 2.
Thanks for the video, I have been waiting for this review. I have the heavier CFly drone that does a really good job, but with all the new tracking regulations I'm just going to get something under 250grams. I'm going to go with the new Potensic 👍🏾.
As of my post you got 7 hours and 50 minutes left to take advantage of their Black Friday sale on the drones website. Drone, 2 batteries and charge hub $378. No sales tax for me free shipping. Not terribly expensive but could still be cheaper
Pretty cool drone gadget Steve. Out of interest, could you use Bluetooth ear buds or wired ones if prefered to record audio, rather than holding phone and speaking into microphone on phone as holding a phone and speaking into it may look a bit strange?
I will ring your bell, and I will subscribe to you. It fits my construction work.I hope to have something like this one day. I'm from the Philippines.❤❤❤
The only use i would see this for in my inventory would be to do yt videos when repairing cars or what ever. U can use the phone as a mic and the drone to record your work too bad 30 min only
i have one now too,a pitty the video quality is noisy if you watch it on a big screen(grainy) even with great light conditions,i shoot at the max that is 2k 30fps
My only other question left now is (since I got the audio to work as I talk!) is will it still work if my iPhone goes to sleep/screen saver) as I walk and talk? TBD
Nice, a new version of "the vacuum cleaner" version drone. So no c-fly v2 video? why? The damn thing just break down on arrival ?!?!? Good video, by the way. (Sorry for the rant...)
Great video 👍 It’s an interesting drone, although a little expensive for what it is. One thing to note.. if the CAA get their way, then this little drone will need a Remote ID module attaching in a couple of years for the UK. Unlike in the US, they are wanting sub 250g drones to have remote ID! 😢
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 I know. I think up to 100g might be exempt as long as it doesn’t have a camera. It’s crazy isn’t it? This is one of the new rules the CAA are recommending, but it won’t be until 2026 - I’m hoping it doesn’t happen.
Hey Captain John hope all is well with you and your family. You replied to my last request regarding recommending a let’s call it a camera drone under 250 g not top quality but not shitty I guess kinda in the middle I just took your recommendation on the potensic Atom, I guess I’d like something similar, but just not as expensive for my girlfriend .. And once again, I know you did reply I just can’t find it . Thanks John keep doing what you do we need you
Online I saw it for $400 USD (Dec 2023) ... I suppose prices may change, so no mention of that in the video... Loses you in a crowd? WHY not have an electronic ID thing that you can have on you, that id.s you to YOUR HoverAir... and last question: Is it fast enough to follow a motorcycle? On a highway? (This is somethign I would be interested in.) "FOLLOW!" ... would be nice if you could command it in your phone, maybe through "Bixby"... "Make drone FOLLOW"... "Make drone ORBIT"... "Make drone go HIGHER". etc. (also it sounds very noisy) - Just some ideas after watching the video. Thanks.
The price is probably due to the simple "AI" it has, it's got to be at least "smart" enough to be able to follow you and perform those flight paths with minute calculation on its part. What's lacking is a dedicated voice command or small remote that you can use to switch modes on the fly instead of having to have it return to you to switch modes. I know that the phone can do that via their app, but having a half-palm-sized remote that can double as an ad-hoc noice canceling microphone would be awesome to have.
Scary times we live in where a drone can automatically track you. There was a recent movie Angel has fallen series with killer drones, and here we are they are real..
Thanks Steve, but this hover drone has been around for a while, it’s always been over priced but now it’s ridiculous, I suspect what you’re paying for now is the software on this one, it looks like they may have perfected it finally but for over $400 there really are way better choices out there in my humble opinion. I appreciate you always looking out for us and making these good videos, keep them coming.
It is a selfie drone, and there are no other drones to compete with it in that class, hence the price. Please do not compare this with a drone like a DJI mini or comparable because those are not selfie drones.
yeah it's it's still to expensive. last I saw its 330usd but needs to get down to the 200 range for what it does. unless you get a free one then it's worth it
How does this drone operate in lower light scenarios? Can you use it indoors? How well does it go up and down hills? Can it crash while following you? Is there any way to control it with your phone?
In low light it would not see you or the ground. Yes to indoors, but you better have a LARGE indoors. It tracks you up and down. There is no obstacle avoidance so if you walk near objects it will probably crash.
well it will be all right for man/women well the type that's all me, me, me look at me i'm lovely but the prise no thanks i like to zoom around another great review again Steve.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 The first person to create a self-flying drone under 30 decibels with a camera, microphone, and Bluetooth upload will be a very very rich person!
Honest question= Looks awesome for it's intended purpose BUT what happens when a person walks into its path during a process? Will it stop or avoid an object? Example: bumps into a Karen or 6 foot child and ruins your day . Should be noted. Hate to be a buzz kill.

Cheers!
Do you have any footage of using it on your Caribbean trip? Thinking of getting one for a similar vacation. TIA
Fantastic, thorough review as always, Cap'n - and what a cool little drone. I could definitely see this being great to have on vacation, a very impressive little piece of tech. Thanks, and happy flying!
Thanks for watching!
I purchased one of these drones several months ago and I think it's the cat's meow. 🙂
I can fly it in manual mode even though I fell prey to a crippling stroke two years ago (03-21-22); it's great to be able to fly it with one hand. 😀
It's upscale version of The Snap Chat drone. Almost an exact replica of the 1st generation of this drone.
I got one of these for Xmas and it is a lot of fun and easy to use.
Thanks for this review. Nice little vacation friend to learn a bit about drones.. . . . when it was below $100.
Excellent tutorial review video of the Hover Air X1 drone. Thank you Captain Steve.
Glad you enjoyed it
I was hoping you'd do a review of this, I appreciate how you do reviews and your additional personal comments.
This seems like great tech for indoor only use….if quality improves could be really great for creative inside stuff.
Another great video Steve thanks for keeping us all up to date on all different types of RC things!
No problem 👍
I really thought the video would be a snarky review, based on the title, but you explain what it is and what it isn't. The lack of a direct remote control kind of terrifies me.
Good review as usual. Thanks!
Decent drone, definitely fills a niche between having your phone or camera and a selfie stick or tripod at one end, and a 'real' drone at the other, that will get you shots neither of these options can get you. So it's useful.
That price though, yeesh.
Yup… the price should be around $250 in my limited opinion.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 That seems about fair to me, and at that point I'd probably buy it.
Pretty good vid Steve .... Just a slight observation though - The Vile screeching noise this drone makes ..renders it useless for Vacation VIDEOS ....and therefore its a pretty expensive altenative to a - Selfie stick to take stills ....
It is noisy, but this is why you use it away from other humans so that it only tracks you.
I would def be interested at half the price. But as good as it is for what it does, follow and selfie, that high pitched sound would drive me nuts.
Gopro needs to buy them out and stick their sensors and image stabilization in there. Imagine a GoPro version of this thing! Still its a pretty cool little drone as is
Hope DJI can do something like this with the 4 Pro.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 who is Tex?
Thanks jimS
Great! Thank you for sharing.
The idea behind it is brilliant. It is a simplified drone with all the useful features. 2.7K video is good enough but the price is unacceptable.
No, 2.7K is not good enough.
@@DarkStoneCastle Depends on the use case. Definitely not for any kind of professional use, but for social sharing it is more than adequate.
Good evening captain really cool drone nice set up
wow i love it soon i want to buy that drone❤❤❤❤❤❤🤞👍👍👍
Cheers!
You can fly and control the drone with the app and the manual control feature.
A great video, thank you. I wonder if you can use the DJI bluetooth wireless mike?
I give up, long journey of asking you to review bubito, i still want you to but this is the last time i ask
Day: 24
Of asking you to review the bubito fpv drone
(Please reply)
Heh I just seen this in an ad on Instagram yesterday and you are the first video I watched of it. Enjoyed it and you were very thorough. Great job. I was wondering though do you need part 107 like other drones to put your videos on TH-cam ?
I live in Canada and we currently have no such requirements
I'll buy that one next month love to use that unlike dji
Not bad. When it came out a couple of years ago price was high then. Good video Captain
I'm going to go with the new Potensic 👍🏾.
i'll wait for v2, better quality and low lights I assume
I think this is their V5. Hover drones by this company have been around for many years but none have been as good or as small as this one.
Great video, THANK YOU 👍👍
Wow i pray i manage to buy it one day
As of my post you got 7 hours and 50 minutes left to take advantage of their Black Friday sale on the drones website. Drone, 2 batteries and charge hub $378. No sales tax for me free shipping. Not terribly expensive but could still be cheaper
I do agree. A bit costly for what it is, but it is the only drone that does what it does.
Que legal este drone d filmagem divertida.
Pretty cool drone gadget Steve. Out of interest, could you use Bluetooth ear buds or wired ones if prefered to record audio, rather than holding phone and speaking into microphone on phone as holding a phone and speaking into it may look a bit strange?
Probably… because it is just recording whatever sound the phone gives it
Yes, it supports any microphone compatible with your phone, wired or wireless.

Hi captain. Drone very informative thank you ...

Thanks for the sub and welcome to the channel
The only use i would see this for in my inventory would be to do yt videos when repairing cars or what ever. U can use the phone as a mic and the drone to record your work too bad 30 min only
Very nice review , thorough and pure detail with no time wasting. Thank You Cpt Drone!
Glad you enjoyed it, much appreciated!
If I'm in a crowded place. Can it still hover with me and avoiding it to be hot by other people etc?
Great videos so cool drone.. i want to buy this..
Nice little drone I might buy one😅?!!😊
i have one now too,a pitty the video quality is noisy if you watch it on a big screen(grainy) even with great light conditions,i shoot at the max that is 2k 30fps
I’ll buy when it is under $150.
Great video 👍
It’s an interesting drone, although a little expensive for what it is.
One thing to note.. if the CAA get their way, then this little drone will need a Remote ID module attaching in a couple of years for the UK.
Unlike in the US, they are wanting sub 250g drones to have remote ID! 😢
That is silly because $20 toy drones for kids, that are harmless due to motors & range, would need remote ID.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 I know. I think up to 100g might be exempt as long as it doesn’t have a camera. It’s crazy isn’t it? This is one of the new rules the CAA are recommending, but it won’t be until 2026 - I’m hoping it doesn’t happen.
Thank you for the review really appreciate it I think I would be getting warm in spring
just wish the camera was 4K, then would be top notch to buy!
The DJI NEO is 4K (same idea)
I like the intro because its winter lol
That looks fun !
Lovely drone
Hey Captain John hope all is well with you and your family.
You replied to my last request regarding recommending a let’s call it a camera drone under 250 g not top quality but not shitty I guess kinda in the middle I just took your recommendation on the potensic Atom,
I guess I’d like something similar, but just not as expensive for my girlfriend ..
I am waiting for this product review since it's available.
Scary times we live in where a drone can automatically track you. There was a recent movie Angel has fallen series with killer drones, and here we are they are real..
I'd be interested at half the price, or if I could actually fly it through the app.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 - Yes I see your point. You can probably also get away with bringing this to more places on vacation.
It hasn’t the passport drone has this is a new improvement
Although boring as fk
Battery last how long?
I think there are 2 places this doing work. over water and over a cliff according to some comments I read. They drop and you will lose them.
yeah it's it's still to expensive. last I saw its 330usd but needs to get down to the 200 range for what it does. unless you get a free one then it's worth it
I ordered mine..here on Philippines..it's only cost 72 dollars
How does this drone operate in lower light scenarios? Can you use it indoors? How well does it go up and down hills? Can it crash while following you? Is there any way to control it with your phone?
In low light it would not see you or the ground. Yes to indoors, but you better have a LARGE indoors. It tracks you up and down. There is no obstacle avoidance so if you walk near objects it will probably crash.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thanks, Steve. Maybe they'll produce a larger/ more capable version but I'm not sure it would make sense.
How to transfer the record video to cell phone?
It is all done with the app, just like I showed in the video.
Pretty cool!
Is it any better than the tello drone🤔
Ha ha… now that is hilarious (good one). The Tello is kinda like a model T Ford.
well it will be all right for man/women well the type that's all me, me, me look at me i'm lovely but the prise no thanks i like to zoom around another great review again Steve.

If you put a mic in a drone all you will hear is the drone.

Amazingly, I do not have it.
Honest question= Looks awesome for it's intended purpose BUT what happens when a person walks into its path during a process? Will it stop or avoid an object? Example: bumps into a Karen or 6 foot child and ruins your day . Should be noted. Hate to be a buzz kill.
It has no avoidance. It tracks you, so if the tracking is interrupted it stops until the interruption is removed
