The brunette lady in the group is the primary lead in this song. She was not the usual lead singer. She is a 2nd soprano and/or alto singer. When they mention Rio Grande, I would presume they mean the river bordering the USA TEXAS and Mexico. ABBA members are in their 70s now. But in my view, this song is beautiful.

Yeah, I believe it's about Texas - Mexico war back in 19th century.

When you count the songs, the two ladies actually did an equal number of leads. Frida did Fernando, I have a dream, Knowing Me Knowing You, Super Trouper, Money Money Money and many, many more.

Y V In the 70s they were my parents favourite band, and many folks in their 20s and 30s. Every age enjoyed them. Many get togethers featured their music. One of the few current bands my parents listened to. The other was The BeeGees.

This must be the ABBA song where the meaning of lyrics is most different from their version in Swedish language.
In that version there was no war going on, the singer just tried to cheer Fernando up when he was heartbroken because his loved one had dumped him.

There is a lot of harmony at the top of the registers. The dark haired girl is singing the lead. But the blond is singing a low harmony. Which sounds different with the guys singing the upper harmonies. It’s just a different sound than they normally do.

muito bom !!! sou fã desse grupo. Fernando may be a symbolic name, but for a mexican guy, once that battle happened in North América

I think it's about the Mexican civil war because it also mentions the Rio Grande (River).

You should try to listen another great european-swedish band - Roxette. They had a lot of wonderful songs like: Listen To Your Heart / It Must Have Been Love/ Spending My Time / How Do You Do, etc.

I think it's talks about the border between The US and Mexico because they mentioned the Rio Grande which is the partial border between the 2 countries.
