The difference between an intern and entry level does not lie in the worker's ability, it lies in that one is unpaid and one is paid. The last video - th-cam.com/video/4K8ULD0md9s/w-d-xo.html His live and the question @ 9min - www.linkedin.com/posts/activity-6752242096553512960-a7Qh
If you're working for a company making the boss money-you should be paid. Period, regardless of your skill level. It's just common decency too many fatcats just want to save money by screwing their workers over! It's disgusting!
In many countries interns are not paid. On day one in a real job, many members already have experience and many do not. For those who do not, the idea is that person stays on long-term, they add value to the business long-term. They usually go through a rigorous hiring process where their skills are identified thoroughly beforehand whereas typically interns do not. Internships by nature are short term, not long term. Thus the same level of investment is not being made by the firm or the intern. An internship is NOT a job. They are radically different. You must remember, there is fierce competition in India. So many have degrees. So many bright, hard-working individual and not everyone is going to be able to get that job. So internships are valuable on both sides. Also, I think it's a cultural thing Josh. Remember, the US standards of work are very different. Even in the UK. if you are of a certain age and have an internship, you will often not be paid. The US is not the centre of the world! Lastly, remember that culturally India is a different universe. The whole work culture is different. What is and isn't expected is different. Pay is different. Living costs are different. You cannot hold every country to the standards of the top countries. I do think there is abuse in the workplace especially in India, but an unpaid internship is not one of them. Having said that, this guy seems like a bit of a c*nnt.
@@nickk5336 Unpaid internships should be outlawed. Interns could receive a small salary that's a percentagem of a Full salary and they shouldn't work Full time because they have college. That's How It Works in my country and now Very little companies abuse interns anymore
@@nickk5336 As an Indian engineering student currently doing an Internship, I can't begin to say how wrong/misguided Sam's philosophy is even by Indian standards. It's got nothing with culture - work or otherwise. As for the money aspect, yes, the amount we get as interns is less (by US standards), but from an Indian standpoint, Rs.10,000 per month for a 20-25 hours/week wfh Internship (So no travel, accomodation costs) and having good mentors is not so bad. (Try using PPP intead of direct exchange value for getting a better idea - So instead of USD = INR/70, do USD = INR/20, 20 being the latest ppp converting factor). One can even do 2 Internships simultaneously along with daily classes without much difficulty. But that being said, whatever might be the amount, the internships are indeed paid.
This is tragically why India is not doing well in the World prosperity stakes as it should be doing. The US and EU hoover up the best performing Tech talent from India and elsewhere and use them for their prime years to advance their Corporate interests. They then get rid of the older workers as new ones come on stream. It remains to be seen will these older workers return to India to live out their old age there. What will this cost India? Do Indian Universities get government subvention for educating these graduates in the first place?
@@Hunterchuck They can only go so far. As a small company, while they may save a tiny bit by not paying interns, they end up losing a lot of clients/projects because the bad reviews ex-employees/interns post matter a lot for a company that size.
Right after saying that he says "your parents are using their money to pay for you 4 years of college" too. No. Most people have to pay for it themselves, and a paid internship helps alleviate that debt. Such a privileged, out of touch, worldview.
LoL 😂 he has a point but it all depends on how long the internship is. If there's actually enough time for the person to really learn the position and ramp up. Then pay them something. At least some walk around money. Because I'm sure you have interns because they do in turn bring something to your company
How do you tell the difference between a serious company that will eventually give you a job after the internship and the one who will just take advantage of inters? Simple, the serious one will pay you the internship anyway.
How do you get people to stop taking unpaid internship jobs though? Many will ignore your advice to decline the job without pay, just to get experience and a reference. This creates leverage for companies to hire unpaid interns, and many will exploit them.
exactly, it's called investing. you invest into a person and then you can expect a return on your investment, as in a long time employee with great productivity.
"You already went to college for 4 years without getting paid, so you're perfectly capable of working for free." With this mentality, no one would ever get paid.
It's like they don't realize that student loans are specifically designed to defer your cost of living just long enough to get you through college, and they don't realize those loans come due when their new employees enter the work force.
Tuition is free to him because his parents pays for it. And the moment you leave school, you are treated as a working adult. So Mr CEO, they are working adults since they have left the school
Takes a special kind of person to bring someone on their company, not pay them, have them work/“learn”, and then not guarantee them a job afterwards. He’s a humanitarian >_>
Many accept because they think maybe in future they will become permanent employee or they can use internship certificate to get job easily. This is happening because of too many applicants available due to huge population.
@@dungeonmaster6292truly said sir ,colleges and universities are total shit teaching 90's stuff with no actual application development , people destroy another 2-3 yrs of their life to get acquainted with practical stuff.
Spot on! He's making decisions and justifying this out of fear... Greediness is guided by the fear of losing money. Funny thing, the guy is a living example of the wrong mindset that is explained in "Rich Dad, Poor Dad". 😀
We used to have this thing called an apprenticeship. Apprentices knew little to nothing but were taught a trade and how to do business in that trade. They were also paid.
Yeah, I dont understand why the step after highschool is college and has a ton of stuff you'll never use and jsut pay a ton of money for, instead having a ton of apprenticeships or somethinb
Josh we (refers to Indian students) support you. My teacher told me to watch your videos. My friends and teacher follow your mentality about work life balance. You help students to get their value. Great job! One day indians will understand their value in market as a programmer. People like sam should stay at home.
@No One or join unions, go on strike, make politicians accountable... Stuff that actually work, instead of just hoping a CEO will be graceful enough to use his powers for good instead of just making as much profit as he can.
@@cassanderrr Internships are mostly part of college curriculum to get familiar with Industry environment. How is an intern supposed to pay for his stay in the city where he is doing internship. Even schools and colleges give allowances to students who go out representing them in sports and competitions at regional and national level. If a company is not going to pay the intern, they should at least provide accommodation and meals for the interns.
@@husyn7120 I get your point, but the point Josh is trying to make is that he wants to make (indians specifically in this case) aware about the shady practices of these new CEO who wants to get their work done but at the end of the doesn't want you to pay. And sadly this problem is not just in India but in other parts of the world too and he has pointed out the same. It's just that this happens more in India so you see more videos about Indian CEOs. I've personally met several people during interviews who doesn't want to pay shit for the work being done for them and all of them are just these new "startups". Any reputed company will pay you for either being an intern or when you apply for a full time job and they pay appropriately.
@@husyn7120 If people indulge in shady practices like this "CEO" then they deserved to be embarrassed. You can't really demand respect if you do not respect the work the intern at your company does. It all sounds good in moral science books "Don't disrespect no matter what the other person does" but reality simply isn't like that. And according to you all is good because the ceo responded politely? What is this a joke? You're really falling for the classic ceo smooth talk lol?
@@jackjames3315 Linus built entire group around makiing videos to youtube. Saying, "He's just a youtuber", is like saying, "He's only a factory owner". Just to point out, how full of himself is that Indian
Great video Josh, I think the saddest part of this video is the idea that NOT taking care of each other is so global. We're literally taught to maximize profit to the point that corporate social responsibility is a thing. CSR wouldn't be necessary if companies would just take care of their people and communities. Quick comment on a facet of internships that I haven't heard you mention: if the intern isn't adding "value" wtf are they having them do all day? There's no way this CEO is holding class in his office all day. Guaranteed the dude's getting something out of them.
It's obvious that Sam is a cheap guy who's just trying to justify that by using the pretext of 'learning'. The funny thing is that his company is probably losing more reputation and money this way and he doesn't even know it. Edit: His company 'Brand Samosa' is rated 1.7 in Google and 2.3 in Glassdoor. In Glassdoor, there were 3 5 star reviews and the rest were 1 star (No 2-4 star). Also, even if you read the 5 star reviews (1-2 lines each), you'd clearly see that maybe only a single person has written all those 3. Karma bites back
Thanks, josh for exposing these scams in India. We Indians can't fight them because they got muscle power and would put us in legal trouble which we can't afford.
Hey I am from India,. You should search about white hat junior company on TH-cam. They exploit kids and their families in the name of online coding classes. A guy in India exposed them and they sued him for defamationm the political parties are also with these people. Unlike in other countries, India doesn't follow labour laws and if u question them, say goodbye to your future jobs
@@adriancadena2887 Actually in India, there is a law prohibiting defamation, if we criticize any company or organisation they can sue us and make us go through horrible ( Kafkaesque ) court procedures
I believe interns should be paid too. If the company decides that they shouldn't pay these people, then how does that incentivize the intern to want to work for that company afterwards? Also, as Josh pointed out, many people who are students need a job to feed themselves and pay bills. By not paying these would-be interns, you are excluding them bc you are asking them to starve themselves to gain experience. A bit inhumane if you ask me.
Well, I did unpaid intern for 3 months, but after finishing they paid me for the last month because they got a huge project because of my work. I even stuck around and stayed overnight unpaid to help them with a demo because it was quite obvious they were in financial trouble and couldn't get any job. And I wasn't even a graduate because I didn't fulfil the requirement of internship for college so I had no choice. Unpaid internship is illegal here so it was really hard for me to find any internship after failing to secure one at where I studied and my visa expired. And yes I continued to work for a year with them because I had no choice... until I did my master and went into PhD
If you ask me, unpaid Internships can only work if they work like an educational institution. You get to own every contribution /feature you made in the field of programming. Just like how it is with our college/open source projects
See that’s the problem I have with the regulation. When you have laws forbidding companies to have unpaid internship, what exactly does it do? Say some companies only had unpaid internship because they can’t afford paying the interns. What they do now? They stop taking in interns. Okay let’s say other bigger companies can afford paying the interns, but now they will have to raise the qualifications because there is a expectation to get something in return for the money you spent. So essentially, you just made internship a low wage temp job without paying healthcare aka. Contractor. And people who really need the experience gonna have a tougher time find one, which fu k the entire purpose of “internship”. It’s literally a lose lose scenario.
I wonder how you could watch this "block pixels stop-motion" nonsense. This CEO saved all his penny change by not paying his interns and still has the worst internet connection there is.
He's so salty that he didn't got into collage that he doesn't pay inters who most probably finished university just to get back at them. No university prepares you for the real life situations, yet you expected to know everything in your domain after finishing one
In the Philippines, unpaid internship is common even Dev jobs. I was in one. It was an eye-opener for me that people get paid in an internship watching your vids. A lot of these companies like to exploit people who don't have experience. You are doing a good job exposing these people. God bless.
Joshua, just wanted to say bringing these kind of CEO's in front to speak and making the audience know what kind of person actually they are. I personally support you for doing these videos, someone really needed to do bring this out. Keep up the good work!
His analogy about us paying for colleges and schools so that they can teach us something and that is his reason for not paying for an intern is just plain ridiculous. Just admit that you are a cheap person who doesn’t value hardwork of any kind and move on. That will make more sense imo. Moreover, as Josh said, companies do train you and pay you during the process. For my first job I was trained for over a month and was paid in full (as per the contract). Even after that, I was given almost 2-3 months of time to get better at my job and still was paid for the same. I’ve met other guys like him and as we say in India, “Aise logo ko door se namaste”.
Well, I live in Czechia and can say this. My former boss was not like one you describe. I recieved literarly zero training. The girl, who was supposed to train me, left for a holiday, right after I was hired, causing a meltdown of process. I didn't recieve any meaningful training in six months and the boss was screaming at me, "why the hell are you so slow to learn?". Then I've got ill for a week and accounting departemnt fell appart. I was giving advice despite on sick leave and therefore illegal for me to work in any capacity. I had to fill actual government statistics, without any understanding what they were about, resulting in me looking for guides, how to mine our accounting software for relevant data and which accounts collapsed in to which values. I've spent four hours on pieces of paper, that take about one to fill, once you're up to speed. And then got barrated, because we've got overwhelmed, because my only colegue couldn't keep up with invoices one day and I was busy with reports. He paid me minimum hourly wage, as I wasn't even worth enough for him, to give me proper job. I had to work up my hours, when I went to uni for classes (I was on combined programme, meaning I was there for one day in two weeks), regardless of the fact, that I had no work to do for the rest of that week! I had so little work at all, when I didn't have those damned statistics reports on my hands, that I taught my IT collegues how to design a network and what gear to pick, to ensure network safety! I have helped him get through the year and then, he barrated me so hard over tiny little mistake, that I collapsed and can't find a job anywhere else, because, I'm not an outgoing extrovert and havetoo little working experience and don't seem engaged, because, I keep my questions to, when I can see the processes and what the job actually entails! That is what the market deem's a junior accountatn with degree in accounting and financial management, holder of FCE certificate and interest in networking so sick, that head of our IT said and I quote, "He's got more advanced network at home, than we do here!" (cause I've spent half my sallary on a couple of decent switches, good WiFI and solid router). And yet, according to the job market and HR in over eight hundred companies, which I had approached over time, I am worth nothing. If I were to scream of frustration over finding a job, Sylvanas Windrunner, the Banshee queen her self, would cover her ears in terror, one she hasn't felt since Arthas laid siege on Silvermoon!
this guy is cheap and trying to make people work for free. and people meed to stay away. the only reason you work there is to use them. if i worked there i would be actively job searching and interviewing. and as im not getting paid, i won't directly contribute. as the owner says you are learning, so i will learn the work and then move on. i will help work on reports, code, etc. but my work will only help the company. i would never work to fully contribute to company if i was unpaid.
It is not ridiculous college costs a lot of money and doesn't teach you valuable skills. Internships teach you industry relevant skills while not getting much profit from you.
Co-worker interned at Nike and they had a team competition for the interns to come up w a new marketing campaign, and they were able to do that bc it was a PAID internship. Interns are absolutely being asked to contribute marketable and productive ideas, and no corporation is so amazing that "exposure" is payment enough. The government will regulate internships, limiting it's access post-grads and absolving companies of intern payment but won't regulate tuition prices 🙄.
Sam’s attitude is an Indian problem. But this will work in India because it’s always been the culture back home. Too many applicants so the employer can set the rules. India is not America where you can make it as a maverick. Sad but true. It was not long ago back in the 90s when teachers used to cane children in India calling it discipline.
is sexual harassment a common issue also? I'm genuinely asking because I imagine an employer can get away with more crime if it's committed against an intern than an employee.

One week during deployment I came continuously from 10:00-23:30 entire 2 weeks... Then One day I had to stay for 02:30 at night in the office... He’s not being honest. If an internship is not paid, then you’re there only to learn and not do anything that provides value for the company. So what’s in it for the company to bother doing that. I’m sure they expect some value. Some value should come with some pay. Simple as that.
Haha these companies only let people who have done enough work in projects ie they can easily freelance, so they are not really new to the job position, it's just a trap come here and learn for free really? It's kind of a spot that most of companies exploit and grow for free.
The idea is that the skills and experience is supposed to be of value to you, just like how he said that in school you would actually pay tuition for that. It's an exchange of skills / knowledge for labor. If you don't want it, don't apply for the unpaid internship, just apply for a job. Simple as that.
and if we don't hire interns, these kids will never get a job. 99.9999% of companies expect to hire someone with experience but nobody wants to pick up the 20 year olds and train them, give them a chance. Sure, you lose money because he's not doing work, your senior staff wastes his own time teaching someone something. That's why interns don't get paid. @@MK_ULTRA420 As an Indian I am appalled by my people I have always been a strong critc of this. This a disgrace and stain on humanity. Shame on those who practice this and the government on India who allow this. These trainees should be paid at least 75% of a normal worker as they are adding some value in whichever way to the organisation. This is a non-negotiable topic.
I don't understand how people expect that a personal project in college or having a project in any college curriculum is same as an enterprise project in any IT organization. Either this CEO is completely delusional of the Indian education system or he plainly expects that whoever is gonna join his organisation won't ever learn a dime and will be an expert in his field. Sorry to say but with how technologies evolve even the best of the best do need to get updated and learn the stack sometime in their journey. Secondly, I don't understand with his point of saying interns join only for learning and enhancing their own skillet. Well sir, the projects that you are going to deploy them on will be basically your company projects and ironically you will be the one making bunch of profits off them. We as full time employees know this very well that we get paid in peanuts in contrast to how much you charge client for projects or the profits you make off your products. And when an Intern is doing the same amount of work, or half the work or even in some cases more than what a full time employee does why he doesn't have the right to get paid ? Business is always a two way transaction. This is how it was, how it is and how it always will be. As a CEO, sadly enough you should atleast know that by now Sam..
What happens is senior/mid developers who have their own work end up having to spend time teaching someone how to do things. Lots of hand holding, lots of explaining. You cant be learning on someone elses time and get paid for it. Especially when an intern is only there for a few months. There a ton of entry level candidates, there is no shortage of that. A There is a big shortage of senior level engineers. People out here acting like interns produce production level code. As a former intern and as a person who has to help these people this is how it works. There is a tiny bug fix that an intern gets assigned to which they then take a really long time on, they then have to have someone help them out. They then will try to fix it and create a PR which under review their lack of experience shows. So lots of comments and teaching then it finally gets merged. You just used a bunch of time an resources to get this kid some experience. And thats if and only if you get to touch production. The fact that interns believe they can contribute high level code it self shows they dont even know where they stand in terms of output. Its a business not a charity, if they are offering internship, its pretty cool that they are willing to have their devs time used up to teach someone. Its already a big cost to them as a seniors time is way more expensive. Thats upwards of $60/hr used to help an intern. Can an intern produce that or more value back to the company? Not a chance, shouldnt get paid unless they can work with minimal hand holding which in that case just hire an entry level guy at least he will stick around instead of the intern who leaves in a few months. Also I also have my own work to do in addition to helping this person, Im not getting paid extra to help them and meet my own deadlines. Interns are a big drain on resources.
I totally agree, unpaid internships should not be allowed. But I can also share a perspective from many employers and may be they think this is a solution. The problem is most freshers cant be productive even in few months of training (what they learned in their school is another big subject). They all require hand holding. And that has to be given by someone senior. The senior dev is already has a locked project for himself so you can see the pressure. Senior dev (been through this) generally still finds ways to help and assist the fresher. But at the cost of the project or his own time. There are few months invested in the training of the fresher. And then as soon as the fresher just gets hold on few dozen good keywords, guess what, he left the job to a better salary elsewhere, and now no longer a fresher. This is a common situation in many small dev shops.
You are so true. Good organizations will definitely pay you when interning. People leading these kinds of organizations are just a waste. The intern can never learn or like their job once going through that experience. Obviously, there are very few exceptions.
The point where Sam says he had to work when he is as 17 to help his family.... I just have one question "Were you willing to take an unpaid internship back then? "

15 years ago , someone wanted me to work one week as ‘ test run’ - after I had one year of experience in the same field , I flatly refused . I made sure that all my interns were fairly paid and treated later in my life. 15 years down the line , I am still happy with that decision
Damn! Me too bro. Stuck in this shitty place, has been over 1.5 years working as a full stack developer and haven't even been able to pay up the loan I took for my engineering due to crappy packages and high expenses. Even 2 year experienced, well knowledgeable developers hardly gets paid $500 per month here.
@john your opinion is right. I watching your videos from last 6 months. I am from India your right. You have recognized our values especially in ourselves in internship.
The whole concept of internship should be straight illegal. It’s just a buzzword to excuse the fact of having free labor. These kind of CEOs are utterly revolting...
What's wrong with a paid internship? You can have a pro-rated salary and work for three months as a student. That seems fine to me. Maybe you meant to say "unpaid internship"?
Unpaid internship is stupid, before u apply for internship just work on personal projects and learn what you have to instead of expecting a training from 0 to hero at the job/internship. Just show your skills and get that dough you deserve.
The "you pay for college, so why should I teach you for free" is fucking ridiculous. Colleges don't have a business model and don't benefit from you taking the exams, and projects you complete aren't making money for them. Companies ARE benefiting from your work and manhours.
If a company doesn't want to pay and intern then they also shouldn't be able to profit from them. Any idea, tech or design created by an intern should be the property of the intern and not the company.
"Interns should not be paid, because they don't contribute anything to the company." Meanwhile, me as lowly accountant paid less than minimal wage on the count of no working experience teaching our IT department about computer networking: "Of course, I am getting paid what I'm worth to the market." Ps: This really happened to me.
Good lord your company sounds like a burning trashfire, underpaying the accountant and making you teach the IT department about _anything_ computer related. I'd have trouble sleeping at night wondering if my underpaid accountant is siphoning money from me while I have an incompetent IT department.
this guy acts like interns just sit around and learn the whole time. internships aren't school, sure you have to train and help an intern out more than your average worker (which is why most interns don't make as much money as a full time worker), but they still deliver some value and do end up producing work, and if they dont, terminate the internship.

Josh. You are right!!! I am a 25 year of experience IT Contractor. I’ve had to learn at every new contract. This guy is sucking value out of the system any way he can. I was a intern at age 21 and looking back I provided a ton of value. They only allowed me to work on small jobs that I completed as well as an older worker after 1 day of training. Thanks for the vid. I've dealt with a bunch of these company owners while freelancing. The issue is not that they don't want to pay interns, they don't want to pay in general. They are just cheap ass people, or have listened to too much youtube gurus about profit margins, and want to squeeze as much life force out of workers as possible.

Here in Canada Interns ARE PAID and paid well. If you want people to stick around you don't treat them like trash or garbage like this CEO is proposing.
The difference between an intern and entry level does not lie in the worker's ability, it lies in that one is unpaid and one is paid.

@@nickk5336 culture is not an excuse for toxic behavior

This CEO is the perfect example why smart engineers are leaving India.

true that. same story with mechanical background as well.
The whole idea of devaluing others is the mind set that got a lot of ceos in their positions in the first place.

Good question. It seemed he himself didn't had to suffer that much. That one sided world view of his pretty much justify that
that was spot on
Right after saying that he says "your parents are using their money to pay for you 4 years of college" too.
This question should have been addressed to him.

Simple, the serious one will pay you the internship anyway.

Also, as Josh pointed out, many people who are students need a job to feed themselves and pay bills. By not paying these would-be interns, you are excluding them bc you are asking them to starve themselves to gain experience. A bit inhumane if you ask me.

So I get what you mean when you point these people out. They don't care about ethics or humans in general. India is trapped in these low paying, high working jobs and it's not going out anytime soon. I really like it when you point them out.
keep up the work buddy... You are the best guy...
I love how Josh doesn't push his courses. 👍 Man doesn't want to unwittingly end up on a Coffeezilla fake-guru episode 🤣
Coffeezilla is guilty of defamation and detraction!
Coffee asked me about it, and when I explained it he was like 'oh'
Lol
if they aren't bringing anything of value, then they don't need to hire interns.
Absolutely 🙌
🎯
and if we don't hire interns, these kids will never get a job. 99.9999% of companies expect to hire someone with experience but nobody wants to pick up the 20 year olds and train them, give them a chance. Sure, you lose money because he's not doing work, your senior staff wastes his own time teaching someone something. That's why interns don't get paid.
But if the intern already knows how to code and nobody is teaching him anything? That's just robbery.
@@llVIU sam is the one asking people to go to his company and work for free the thing is that companies hire interns because they know they have the potencial to generate money once an intern is able to finish a project the company Just sells the proyect gets lots of cash and the intern nothing im Just saying this is why interns are not very motivated to do your shit project for free man
@@elsunshine9976 and then companies demand people who "are ambitious, looking for a challenge, willing to go the extra mile" and also brag about their own company like it's a privilege to work for some random company that almost threw your cv away without reading. The other day I was shouted by my boss for moving too slow, "do you have any idea how much I pay for you per minute" ... yeah, almost nothing, for a shit job that isn't even an electrician job (what I am)... back breaking work breaking walls. WTF?
Good morning! I stumbled over your channel yesterday and went on a watching and listening binge, starting with how you were married and divorced, your girlfriend cheating on you with your childhood best friend and how you have provided for your family and their selfish rejection towards you. Respectfully I am trying to learn and understand what you specialize in and do for a living.
One thing I learned for myself after listening to your videos, is sometimes people give advice and try to figure peoples relationship problems, when all they really need is a listening ear.
Love the informational videos you are giving out. Have a great day.

Josh, you are 100%. Historically Internship was put in place for rich people's kids to get free experience. This allowed them to get a step on other kids. These people are just predators.

@@MK_ULTRA420 Not in private firms. This is just a guy being an asshole
And even experts are always learning things. If the learning curve is flat, then it's time to find other challenges

😂😂😂 oh bhai😂

"How absurd is it that Joshua creates actual value by providing a course to help people start a business"
I'm not giving you a business to run or a product to sell, only explaining how the legalities of it work, and what the advantages of it can be. But the 'fake guru' meme is strong these days so we keep it DL

Sad but in India corporates and small businesses are cruel to employees and interns
That's very sad! One of the sins that cries out to Heaven for vengeance is defrauding a man/woman of his just wages.
You should see the Mr. Wonderful video, USa - There are those who own the store, and there are those who scrape the s'-@ off the floor. That's the story he told -sad.
If he has the mentality that he's doing someone a favour by even hiring them or by paying them, then the company will never be a good place to work at.
15 years ago , someone wanted me to work one week as ‘ test run’ - after I had one year of experience in the same field , I flatly refused . I made sure that all my interns were fairly paid and treated later in my life. 15 years down the line , I am still happy with that decision
My dude, Sam has the most brittle ego. I kinda feel bad for him
He is a greedy CEO taking money from employees.
Your pretty lucky if your mum and dad paid for your collage.
I had to pay for my own Diploma and Bachelor.
Damn!
Joshua you rock! It's great that you give adequate point of view for toxic CEOs
Imagine being too poor to pay interns. Sends the message he’s not be running his business too well to me.
Joshua, you are bringing a revolution in a sector that has been hardly held accountable for such misdemeanor. Thank you
I was also trapped in one of those scams where I paid Rs.7k to the company for an internship no use. :(

If a company doesn't want to pay and intern then they also shouldn't be able to profit from them. Any idea, tech or design created by an intern should be the property of the intern and not the company.
"Interns should not be paid, because they don't contribute anything to the company."
Meanwhile, me as lowly accountant paid less than minimal wage on the count of no working experience teaching our IT department about computer networking: "Of course, I am getting paid what I'm worth to the market."
Ps: This really happened to me.

@@smerf786 Well, you pay for access to future senior engineers at a cheap price, who knows exactly what you need them to. Many companies pay great sums to be able to go to universities to advertise, why should you be given that access for free? If you're not willing to invest in education then don't whine about skilled workers being hard to come by, as they would prefer companies treating them better. Also if you spend so much effort teaching them that you're straight losing money by having them there then there's a chance you either suck at picking, or suck at teaching, or maybe you're just not that attractive of a company to get the most talented students.

Be VERY wary of "internships" who say you gotta work for 3 months before you BEGIN to get a chance to learn anything.
“The purpose of an internship is to learn” so you get labor from the interns while not paying them and then once that internship ends, will they get full employment from your company? If there is no guarantee, I see no point in interning for you.
