I got told in a review once very specifically not to talk to my counterpart about my salary and reminded that our contracts said we weren't supposed to. My counterpart was told the same thing in his review. We both went "uh huh" and immediately compared notes (illegal clauses are not enforceable, handy information I learned at a previous job!).
He had another meeting with them about his salary.

After watching incompetent people around me get promoted because of my solutions, I realized that the return on investment was negative. Now I let them own their own incompetence, shining a light on the truth. I'm not holding back the company, I'm letting failing employees fail on their own merit.

Agreed. I do Tax work and I've seen worthless employees get promoted. Honestly, there are a lot of white males that should not have been given opportunity to be executives. If your Chinese you probably have to work harder with no assistance. I had not work with no staff. Why should I have to do more work than I'm already doing which was 70 hours a week. You get dumped on with no incentive to work harder and only executives have discretionary bonus. Problem is companies unfairly promote and compensate employees that deliver results.

I was then told by another employee that I made them (and supposedly others) uncomfortable, because of how confident I was in my knowledge of my job, because "You come off as a know-it-all". so I stopped sharing info unless asked, and otherwise kept my headphones on, to help reduce the chance I would do so accidentally. Employees stop sharing when the offshore team starts muttering about “KT” - Knowledge Transfer. First, they badger you to tell them everything you know. Complaining to your boss that you “won’t share” if you don’t comply. Then they copy your work and demo it as their own. Finally, they tell your boss “see, we can do it too - and for less.” Start packing at that point.
The complaint about “quiet constraining” is just another tactic to manipulate bosses into making engineers hand over their knowledge so they can be replaced.

Here’s the kicker: it was a completely different company and req! A bait and switch! There was a whole block in the switched req titled “Collaboration”. Bullet points about mentoring, training, cross cultural promotion - and I think it was to work as a contract lead in one those offshore shops that setup an office in the US! Trying a new way to trick me into training our replacements??? WTF??? I told the agency “pass”

No, I want people to get stuff done in a timely manner, and using reasonable shortcuts helps. If they don’t get it done, it gets laid on me.
I am all for abolishing hourly wages in some workplaces and paying people by the job. Some people would suddenly become better employees if they got real points for jobs done accurately and quickly. Over the course of my working life if I share information or ideas like they say I should in this video it goes one of two ways.
    1. My boss or co-workers completely ignores what I tell them and then blames me for the consequences that could have been avoided if they just listened to me.
    2. Someone else takes credit for my ideas or hard work and it helps their career while doing nothing for me except now I have to deal with the person who stole my work giving me more work to do so they can try to seal credit again.
After over 20 years of only experiencing that I’ve learned to just keep my mouth shut.

Upper managements "Quiet Constraint" LOL. Yup, in my corporate career I saw Directors and VPs sit on information and refer to pretty innocuous stuff in hushed tones and "need to know" bullshit. It was all about power, of lording it over there subordinates. Petty tyrants. Love this channel as a retiree, out of the game 7 years sipping my coffee every morning and enjoying your content. So happy to be rid of these corporate HR morons.

For 3 years I thought my job was chill, then the old manager got fired and the new guy is trying to throw his weight around. Now they're telling me to use PTO because I can't travel due to a medical appointment next week and they can't find work for me locally. They never did this before.
The best idea these managers can come up with is to squeeze the workers harder and harder. They've got nothing better. They don't know how to get more revenue, they don't know how to make logistics more efficient, and they won't even listen if you tell them how because they're over their heads too.
I only worked at this place because it was chill, and I thought of trying to organize a union in my division, but I thought: hey this is pretty good, why rock the boat? But now they're rocking the boat because they can't think of anything better to do. So maybe there's nothing to lose now.

That is why they take less intelligent than you yes man as the man in the middle.
When higher managers press as always for more profit, the yes man questioned " can you make 150% out of this process" will always reply "yes!". Then comes to the team and starts bragging about low performance and wants 200% out of you 150% for what they were asked for and 50% more for they privite success as a team leader.
It is so easy to always ask for more.

😂😂😂 Thank you for roasting this ridiculousness 😂😂😂😂 brilliant critical thinking 🎉 When I got my MBA in 2012, we learned MANAGEMENT is responsible for fostering a collaborative work environment, incentivizing team success, creating a safe workspace for sharing, rewarding employees for contributions… THESE are real steps that managers have known for decades (or centuries?) to encourage collaboration. “Quiet constraint” is not new-it’s as old as Toxic Work Environments! In any toxic work environment, people shut down. It’s basic human nature. The idea that these managers go to workshops to learn centuries-old management principles repackaged to blame employees as a “new” problem is ridiculous.

So, does that mean she is incompetent in HER JOB of providing information regarding the news? Never volunteer to share any knowledge at work. If you are asked to, never share everything. Your company is not your friend . Most of them can usually fire you at will (here in the U.S.) If you are the only person who knows how to do certain tasks, it is better for your job security. Even if your company is still stupid enough to terminate your employment, then, at very least, they will suffer more for doing it.

People do what they perceive to be in their best interests. If the corporate structure rewards ruthless cut-throat behavior to advance like taking credit for others accomplishments and promoting based on winning popularity contest or ass kissing instead of job performance, then an incentive is created to hold back information and methods that will just aid your ruthless competitor to blast past you.
This is a corporate culture problem.

When I was proved right, I was criticized for not noticing the problem. Pointing out that I HAD brought it to their attention, and PROVING it, just got denials and claims not to remember. Effort is punished, truth is ignored. Why bother? All that matters is who the boss decides they like, and it wasn't me.

This involves remote collaboration literally all day. It has done nothing but help collaboration because the remote collab tools have just gotten better since switching to a hybrid/remote style. This is pathetic propaganda created by CEO’s who spent too much money on in person facilities prepandemic and are now dealing with justifying their business expenses since they can’t just sell the lot back off bc hybrid/remote is so beneficial to everyone involved.
