    Europa. Dal 1976 ad oggi l'ho ascoltata più di 8.000 volte. È diventata il sottofondo musicale della mia vita. Accompagnarla con i bongos mi dà grande gioia. W Santana.

    La grandeza de un maestro es el caso de Carlos Santana, que compartió escenario con otros grandes artistas de la música, tanto en la percusión, como en teclados y cuerdas, sin el menor celo o egoísmo.
    Grande Carlos Santana!! 🎸

    Sometimes the little things artists do just blow me away. Many things from Carlos have done that over the years. Carlos' song Europa has always been one of my favorites. But at about 3:40 here, he works in the theme from the international jazz standard "Estate", and this to me takes his performance into the stratosphere. This is beyond Heavenly genius, IMHO.

    Para mi siempre va a ser una falta de respeto no tocar un tema como este como la versión original...se pierde la emoción, el sentimiento y el alma que puso el autor en el momento en que lo hizo, y eso no tiene precio, y es lo que a nos nos llega con su alma, y no una payasada de escenario, nadie va a ver un alma expresiva expresarse solo al 40 %, yo pagarla para verlo en el momento de la creación, ESE es el momento que todos queremos escuchar, no todas las posibles notas que podes meter dentro de un compás al que todos conocen, pero todos desconocemos, porque no es lo que venimos a buscar...queremos tu alma...eso, que la pongas y la desnudes en cada escenario, que vuelvas a poner el mismo sentimiento que pusiste cuando la creaste, porque eso la hace valiosa y duradera, si en tu casa la queres tocar de otra manera, bien, pero el publico fue a buscar tu alma, tus emociones, tus sentimientos, porque hasta quien no le gusta, va a disfrutar como vos lo haces en ese momento, y si vos no le pones las mismas ganas, a nadie le va a mover un pelo, solo es un tema mas que lo puede tocar cualquiera a su propia versión, te hablo del corazón, porque me siguen cayendo las lagrimas con la versión original tras el pasar de los años, pero no puedo ni escuchar cualquier otra pedorra version que no me dice nada. Un abrazo ídolo.

    • @spectrabei
      @spectrabei 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      "Alexis Rosales Ruiz",
      We call the "Hangers On" , "Cover Bands", here in the States. Carlos Santana wrote this music. Respect his work. Everyone Else, is just a puppet, using his work to further their failed careers.

    • @alexisrosalesruiz7334
      @alexisrosalesruiz7334 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, I do respect his work, but more in his younger days, when he took chances, played with jazz musicians,
      (he admired), when he worked with Chepito Areas, Michael, Greg, Schon, that original line up that played at Woodstock, from 98 until now he took another direction and his music and playing got watered down. Now someone who deserves to be in the hall fame and is not is Robin Trower. He never watered down his playing or compositions to please the record companies.

    • @spectrabei
      @spectrabei 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      We all age, no getting around that, but the music from Carlos Santana does not. He has hand picked new players, his wife Cindy is one of them. His team is SOLID. I look forward to more music from the great Carlos Santana and "Team Santana". Peace Out !!!!

    I could put this song on a playlist all by itself, put it on an endless loop, and never quit listening to it. That man can play! I don't know how to play guitar - how does he sustain those notes? Magic?

    • @LokkieF
      @LokkieF 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Cliff Sees , no magic. He has his guitar so that it feedbacks at full volume. But has his volume pot on the guitar at 1 or 2. When playing a not and than turn the volume up, the note is gonna feedback. After the note is almost finished, he turns the volume nob back to 1.

    • @onyjdm
      @onyjdm ปีที่แล้ว

      Not one, around 6-7, it wouldn't have such a fat sound if it was 1@@LokkieF

    • @dogfacedboy6947
      @dogfacedboy6947 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The other guys got it right about his volume knob mastery, but there are also a lot of people who have certain spots on the stage marked with (usually) masking tape. So they know very well what can be expected out of certain places they stand. It really truly does have to do with the length of the wavelengths of different notes multiplied out to certain distances-- plus a lot of volume, using multiple amplifiers with a Mesa Boogie head set to basically maximum howl (but then turned down low in the PA system). But a lot of people know this stuff and it doesn't work like that, so there's a big, hefty dose of black magic voodoo too.

    • @panoschr8723
      @panoschr8723 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, the tone he had on the album version is unmatchable. You hear the opening notes and you go "wow". And near the end the wah pedal kicks in...Every live performance of Europa sounds weak compared to the studio one.

    He never played this song better then when he recorded it for Moonflower and the tour that followed. He had it down..from start to finish the best story ever told without lyrics.
    Somewhere along the way he lost that songs perfect journey of emotions.
    Now...this version is an example...it's just a collection of ideas with no specific purpose.
    I love Carlos but since early 90's everytime I saw him play this song I was disappointed.
    Im glad I saw 70's Carlos a few times but it ruined my experiences for seeing his later interpretations.

    3.59. He dials in the sustain and feedback so well. He has places marked with tape in x shapes on the floor to show where he will get these results in relation to the amp. He is also using a Les Paul style PRS with no whammy bar for more sustain and a heavier body.

    • @e7thstar
      @e7thstar 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The fact that it's a prs or has no whammy really has no effect on the sustain...or even where he really stands. It's all in right hand placement and how your left hand is handling the vibrato. Sure facing the amp will cause feedback, but his prs has p90 style pickups, which means they are noisy and low output, so cant use amp feedback as sustain, because it would sound like shit. Please dont make light of Carlos' sustain. It's not as simple as standing in a particular location. It's in the hands.

    I prefer his old format for this song, more true to the studio recording... like on Moonflower. But that said, I realize why when I play this song on guitar it never sounds quite right.. much of his solo technique is up stroke picking whereas I am more comfortable with and always played down strokes. Gonna have to work on that. Saw him live in Massachusetts almost 20 years ago, I think it was. Was well worth the expense back then. I can say I did get to see one of my guitar idols.

    Still fabulous after all these years . Wow ! Magnificent ! " Elegant , but not overly ostentatious " . Thank you , Carlos !

      Carlos got a lot from Peter Green. Robert Fripp gets notes to sustain for decades.

      MisterTMH That’s a good point. I saw Fripp a long time ago, King Crimson concert around 1973 or so. Excellent he was too!
