My name is Andy Okus. I been playing pro sax, guitar, bass, and piano over 45 years now. I met Mr. B.B. King when I was only 14 years old in 1971 at " Pirate's World " in Hollywood Florida. He was the kindest, most humble gentleman I ever met. He treated me; a little kid who knew one blues lick on the Alto sax like I was a millionaire or something. He was such a totally selfless human being. I hung out with his sax section after the show. They we're just as kind and giving as B.B. was. I mean they treated me like I was damn Charlie Parker. We just chilled and talked about playing different saxes. The mood and the vibe of this clip is a representative of the highest and finest respect that is shown among " Real " musical artists. The horn section were actually playing the hottest of anyone up there. In closing I remember hearing an old B.B. King 45 record from 1954 when I was only 13. That record was the rawest most firey playing I've ever heard from B.B. !! This was before he ever added horns. If y'all can find any of his beginning stuff from the early 50's you're in for a real pleasant shock! God Bless B.B. King forever and ever! The REAL KING OF THE BLUES!!!!
I also met B.B. at that same time. He was staying at the Holliday Inn in Coral Gables on US-1, standing on the balcony talking to a few of us kids, we were playing ball at the park across the street and figured out who he was, I also was 14 at that time and loved music my whole life, playing for awhile but always listening to tons of different music, well just one kind really, the good kind. Loved your story, especially since we are the same age from the same town, Pirates World had great concerts back then, just as all the free concerts put on at the U of Miami that I could hear from my bedroom if the window was open. If I told anyone the acts the U put on there free to students (and kids that snuck in) they would think I was making it all up, but nope it was the real deal back then and Miami had lot's of great acts back then but you had to have a friend working at the record store to hear about them and get good tickets. My wife (RIP) booked B.B.'s daughter Shirley King for a New Years Eve show in Muncie Indiana at Pub she worked at in town. B.B. was playing the same night at Ball State University at a show earlier in the day. we picked up Shirley and her band in our mini van and Shirley said "you all want to meet my Daddy?"ummm….YES! met him at the Hotel in town right before he headed for the venue and he asked me and my wife if we were going to his show. we said no, we had not bought tickets and it was sold out. as I was fanboying over one of my heroes B.B. said " well, you are my guests tonight, come on." we followed him to Emens Auditorium on campus and he let us sit backstage and watch the show. I also got to meet Bobby Bland who opened for him. B.B. was one of the nicest men to ever walk the planet. His daughter Shirley is one of the sweetest ladies you will ever meet. God Bless the King family for giving me and my wife one of the greatest nights of our life.

I met him in the basement of Yokohama Arena when he was playing with U2. I was waiting for security to let me in, and he walked down this corridor. As he passed me, I had to say something, despite being hugely shy. I blustered "I really respect your music, Mr King". He said "Thank you, young man". I thought, God, you can take me now!
I was actually there at the Royal Albert Hall. Absolutely blessed and priviledged to see so much talent, and to witness the legend that was "BB King" 💖
In 2013, I took my 80+ year old Aunt to see B.B. King in Dallas. So glad that I did!! Now, both My Aunt and B.B. King have passed away!!! Seize The Moment!! While there is still time!!!
I was at this gig, 4th row (I couldn't believe my luck). It was amazing. You could tell Slash was very humbled to be there. As would any guitarist. It's BB King.

My wife got to be on stage right as an deaf interpreter for his bayfest concert and afterwards he hugged her neck and said thank you so much and saw her looking at his lapel pin and reached in his pocket and handed her one . What a man, !!!!!!! His music will be timeless, I jus feel sorry for those that never saw him alive, he was the KING of the BLUES
I got to meet B.B. once. It was like a Catholic getting to meet the Pope. An amazing man. Most do not know how much time he devoted to encouraging young blues artists. He wanted to make sure this music did not die.
Once you get recognition for your music and make it big,their must be nothing better than going through your own personal hero's to jam with them. You can clearly see the love ❤️

Mick and Susan's voices complement BBs so well. The shared guitar playing between Derek, Susan, Ronny and Slash are outstanding, but the most under-rated part of this, is the bass player holding it all in line as the song progresses.
I'm so disappointed that Susan Tedeschi didn't get more popular. When I heard her for the first time, Bonnie Raitt had finally got popular to the masses. I then thought with her style on "Rock Me Right" and others she would explode. Unfortunately, she didn't.
I love how the blues gets down under your skin and you feel the music, your body responds to it instead of just using your ears to listen. Great music. 💕⚡📀

The biggest heart in blues. Saw him live in Halifax. A kind soul with lots of self-effacing humor. I know everyone in that room felt like he was talking directly to them. I still smile at his live concert videos
Ronnie never gets talked about enough. Amazing guitar playing, but he gets overshadowed by Keith Richards and his stuff always got a bit buried in the mix of their songs. Start Me Up is a good example. Try to find an isolated track or a cover of Ronnie's playing in that song.
ronnie carried this 100%!! bb phoned it in, slash as another commentator said, "so restrained, so respectful", but not the performance i was expecting!

It was London Blues week (or a similar title) BB just kept saying ‘I got a lot of friends in town) and kept announcing new people who were going to join him on stage. Totally unexpected we only went there see BB, as I figured it would be one of the last chances I would get. Magical night. And we had pretty good seats too 😀. BB was around 85 then.

My father passed away from cancer 2 days before BB King was in concert in Albuquerque in 2010. I listen to this song and shed a few tears for my father and BB King. R.I.P. Dad and BB.

I remember clearly as a 13 year old boy loving rock music & hair bands in the 80's until one day my big sister snuck me out late one night & took me to hart plaza in Detroit where I witnessed my very first concert/blues festival where BB was the headliner. My life changed that day & the rest is history. Thank you sis!❤❤❤

I was 17 (it was 1969), heared B.B.'s "The Thrill is gone", first time.... Took my bike, To the Disc-shop Had not enough money Got my LP under condition: pay next week the rest. I did. Now, some years later, I still love it so much to hear 'His Master B.B." !!!
Wow, where were those performances? I saw in different venues Willie Dixon and another time Howlin' Wolf, which was the worst "show" I ever saw. Man, if I only knew what he was going through with cancer and subsequent costs, I could just shut up.
After all these years, I understand the lyrics to this song. I can hear pain when Mr. King sings. Instead of just singing along to the notes of a song. Ironically, watching this is truly a "thrill".
People think BB King could only play about 4 notes, but that's all the man needed. I love the way he grabs the mic in this knowing he's got killer vocal chops to go with those "4" notes too. 👌🏻 What a legend. RIP.
The original Thrill Is Gone, his "hit" -is the greatest piece of music ever recorded. Yet one time I drove 2 hours to a BB King concert just to hear Susan Tedeschi play. Another time I was at a big Blues festival in Reno and I wasn't playing much attention to the people who were playing, but then I heard this one note. I was electrified. The King had started his set..
BB was a great musician from down home. He knew about hard times and had a great work ethic. He didn’t allow people to use profanity in his presence. No weed smoking around him at no time. I learn this many years ago a wonderful human being

I had the privilege to see BB King live about 10 years ago. Such an amazing time for me to see this icon perform. I was almost in tears when when he started to play “The Thrill is Gone”.
Somehow the best part of this video for me isn't the music, it's the fact King really enjoys being on stage with a bunch of other good musicians. It's like the stage is where he belonged in life, and he knew that better than anyone else.
Just outside of Sturgis, Michigan soon after B.B.s death, a very awesome person bought billboard space and put B.B. on it with a short message: "Thank you for the music, B.B."
BB inspired me to pick up a guitar, and I even named my prized guitar after his .. forever grateful, forever in awe. True legend. I've only ever wished that I had the privilege to see him perform over my life but life was rough and time was short.
I tell you man, there's a shit load of talent on that stage. But I have yet to see anyone make a guitar sing like BB could. Saw a show with him and Buddy Guy just before he died, and he spent a lot of time talking to the crowd instead of playing. You could tell it was almost over for him, but when he was playing Lucille that night, It cut through all of the other instruments, Buddy stepped back and watched with this... contented look on his face I'll never forget, and I swear that was one of the most magical things I'd heard from a stage. My only regret is that I wasn't able to see him earlier in life during his prime.
I got to see B.B. King when I was 15 years old - perfect timing since I was getting heavily into playing guitar at that age. He was 74 back then. R.I.P. to the undisputed King of the Blues...
1999, State Theater, Easton, Pennsylvania... I had a ticket to see him with Buddy Guy and J. Geils Band (who are extremely underrated and deserve serious respect) in 2011 but there was a hurricane that canceled the concert... These days I live in Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia so it is harder to see famous bands, but none of the greats are getting any younger so the money and hassle is definitely worth it :-)

My high school maths teacher once told me BB saved his life, when I asked him what he meant he told me this story: He was working at a gas station when somebody walked up to him at the counter with a knife. I went to this concert completely alone! God... It was just brilliant... This is fantastic, how I wish I could have been front row center. Through the years B.B. has treated young players with love and respect and has gotten the same in return. Slash played beautifully with restraint, and Mick Hucknall was the perfect guest vocalist, his voice fit the song perfectly. I don't know if you'd consider this a show ending all-star jam, but this is the way those jams should be handled, with taste and everyone's part making sense.
Hmm not so much.. Slash and BB completely ignore Susan Tedeschi's vocal in favour of messing around with a hat, and to compound this rudeness Slash then plays a solo over the top. The drummer has all the subtlety of a drunk bashing a row of dustbins and Mick Hucknall should have had the decency to retire after foisting "Holding Back The Years" on an undeserving planet. Apart from that, all good.

My mom introduced me to all kinds of music. She met BB backstage after he performed a show. He noticed how much she was cheering and called for her to meet him. She got his autograph too. I wish I could have met him. I play this song so much. Every time I think Of my mom and smile.

Mick and Susan's voices complement BBs so well. The shared guitar playing between Derek, Susan, Ronny and Slash are outstanding, but the most under-rated part of this, is the bass player holding it all in line as the song progresses.
I'm so disappointed that Susan Tedeschi didn't get more popular. When I heard her for the first time, Bonnie Raitt had finally got popular to the masses. I then thought with her style on "Rock Me Right" and others she would explode. Unfortunately, she didn't.

Ronnie never gets talked about enough. Amazing guitar playing, but he gets overshadowed by Keith Richards and his stuff always got a bit buried in the mix of their songs. Start Me Up is a good example. Try to find an isolated track or a cover of Ronnie's playing in that song.

It was London Blues week (or a similar title) BB just kept saying ‘I got a lot of friends in town) and kept announcing new people who were going to join him on stage. Totally unexpected we only went there see BB, as I figured it would be one of the last chances I would get. Magical night. And we had pretty good seats too 😀. BB was around 85 then.

I remember clearly as a 13 year old boy loving rock music & hair bands in the 80's until one day my big sister snuck me out late one night & took me to hart plaza in Detroit where I witnessed my very first concert/blues festival where BB was the headliner. After all these years, I understand the lyrics to this song. I can hear pain when Mr. King sings. Instead of just singing along to the notes of a song. Ironically, watching this is truly a "thrill".

The original Thrill Is Gone, his "hit" -is the greatest piece of music ever recorded. Yet one time I drove 2 hours to a BB King concert just to hear Susan Tedeschi play.
Another time I was at a big Blues festival in Reno and I wasn't playing much attention to the people who were playing, but then I heard this one note. I was electrified. The King had started his set..
Only blues shows I've been to that came close was Dr. John, Bo Diddly, and Buddy Guy.

I had the privilege to see BB King live about 10 years ago. Such an amazing time for me to see this icon perform. I was almost in tears when when he started to play “The Thrill is Gone”.
That man on the microphone is proof gingers have soul as well :) all of you are so amazing. Everyone is so in tune, beautiful.
Somehow the best part of this video for me isn't the music, it's the fact King really enjoys being on stage with a bunch of other good musicians. It's like the stage is where he belonged in life, and he knew that better than anyone else.
So glad I got to see BB King once in my life. One of the best showman I’ve ever seen. A blessedly talented man. RIP.

BB inspired me to pick up a guitar, and I even named my prized guitar after his .. forever grateful, forever in awe. True legend. I've only ever wished that I had the privilege to see him perform over my life but life was rough and time was short.
Saw him with SRV in Denver.
I knew another guy who did that. He sucked at guitar after years of trying though.
I tell you man, there's a shit load of talent on that stage. But I have yet to see anyone make a guitar sing like BB could. Saw a show with him and Buddy Guy just before he died, and he spent a lot of time talking to the crowd instead of playing. You could tell it was almost over for him, but when he was playing Lucille that night, It cut through all of the other instruments, Buddy stepped back and watched with this... contented look on his face I'll never forget, and I swear that was one of the most magical things I'd heard from a stage. My only regret is that I wasn't able to see him earlier in life during his prime.
No-one can touch BB King's vocals on this song. Great to see Slash and Ron Wood.

I got to see B.B. King when I was 15 years old - perfect timing since I was getting heavily into playing guitar at that age. He was 74 back then. R.I.P. to the undisputed King of the Blues...

1999, State Theater, Easton, Pennsylvania... I had a ticket to see him with Buddy Guy and J. Geils Band (who are extremely underrated and deserve serious respect) in 2011 but there was a hurricane that canceled the concert... These days I live in Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia so it is harder to see famous bands, but none of the greats are getting any younger so the money and hassle is definitely worth it :-)

This is fantastic, how I wish I could have been front row center. Through the years B.B. has treated young players with love
and respect and has gotten the same in return. Slash played beautifully with restraint, and Mick Hucknall was the perfect
guest vocalist, his voice fit the song perfectly. I don't know if you'd consider this a show ending all-star jam, but this is the way
those jams should be handled, with taste and everyone's part making sense.

Hmm not so much.. Slash and BB completely ignore Susan Tedeschi's vocal in favour of messing around with a hat, and to compound this rudeness Slash then plays a solo over the top. The drummer has all the subtlety of a drunk bashing a row of dustbins and Mick Hucknall should have had the decency to retire after foisting "Holding Back The Years" on an undeserving planet. Apart from that, all good.

My mom introduced me to all kinds of music. She met BB backstage after he performed a show. He noticed how much she was cheering and called for her to meet him. She got his autograph too. I wish I could have met him. I play this song so much. Every time I think Of my mom and smile.
