I have always avoided learning arpeggios and triads. For me, it always looked like too much hard work for little return.
I don't know why, but after watching a few of your videos on the subject, I've taken your advice and can already see and hear the difference when improvising.
I think the reason why your so successful as a teacher is because you are very knowledgable yet humble, precise yet laid back and humorous and you actually put your lessons into a context.
Don't ever change your format Tomo, it's perfect as it is.

I’m with ya buddy…I have a good ear for melody, but wanted to begin playing and composing with more intention. At first it sounded stale and non musical, but knowing the fretboard has made my life so much easier.
Even to have that confidence to communicate musically in a band or group setting is worth it.

@ Hyper Speed Media ~ Where I come from, they call it the “one fret theory.” You’re only one fret away from a note that works, anywhere on the fretboard. Don’t like that last
note? Slide, hammer, or pull off just one fret either way and you are good to go! And then there’s the “there are no wrong notes” theory. It’s all there for you - right under your
      fingers.

    • @usuallyclueless4477

Yes I've seen santana do this on stage before. He missed a note and slid to the correct note.

Tomo, you brought tears to my eyes with the improvs starting at 14:48. So beautiful.... You brought new life to a song that I played in high school for a talent show. So amazing.....

Observation: I was just listening to Santana's live version in London, UK: at Hammersmith Odeon. It's easily one of the most beautiful, soulful musical pieces I've ever heard. He reached up and touched the face of God that night. So soulful! If I'm not mistaken, Carlos doesn't have much formal training yet I'd put up this performance against any other great master's work. Reminds us that we should strive to play with feeling above all else to consider, like techniques and clever arrangements. Watched his documentary. Had some hardship. For whatever reason the most memorable performances are bitter/sweet like life.Reminds me of Sting's "They Dance Alone" and how Branford Marsalis takes the song from despair to the Heavens ❤

Thank you for sharing! No need formal train as long as know about harmony, ear training! He has his melodies! I watched it when I went to China. (airplane) Great documentary!

Mr. Fujita, you can't even begin to understand how much I improved since I started following your lessons. Specially undestanding triads/inversions in the first three strings absolutely made me instantly a better player. Honestly, I have an old ukelele at home that never actually learned to play properly, and learning triads on guitar 100% opened my eyes to play ukelele and build my own chords easily.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Thanks sensei Fujita. I am so touched to have found you. So, pardon my many questions on different videos, but you really speak to me. In this lesson, you just summarized my painful road of enjoying guitar and self-teaching. It is not for lack of trying to learn from a teacher but none spoke to me as you do. In this one, specifically, my deepest challenge is to get over the sound I hear from the amp. I need to hear at least a similar sound from the original even if is arranged differently to continue practicing. So, how to dial the amp and the guitar has been a great challenge including what to buy. Then, your teaching with one finger speaks to me (I am able to use 4 now :-)) because I care about the sound rather than the scales, etc. The triads - did not know the name - but I did like the sound so I play them by ear. I am finding in your lessons the theory and method. I am most grateful.

    リズムも前に出たり後ろに引いたりといつまで聴いてても飽きさせない。
    僕からしたら化け物じみたギタリストです(笑)
    いつもカッコイイプレイで楽しませて頂けて本当に嬉しいです!

    • @TomoFujitaMusic
      @TomoFujitaMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      それは嬉しいです。いつもご丁寧にありがとうございます。ピッキングのタッチで歪みのコントロールをします。だから練習のアンプ、ギター、ピッキングの音量セッテイングがとっても大事です。ビブラートのコントロールは、とっても難しいです。これも演奏の前によく考えて用意しないとただひたすら弾いてたら全く用意しないで時間をかけてるだけになります。

Hey Tomo, just wanted to give you a big thank you for all of your effort. I sincerely appreciate the way you approach teaching songs - you don't just teach us the songs like all the other guys on here, you help us understand how it all comes together so we can make it our own. I think that's the special part that sets you apart from all the other videos I look up on here. I found your videos about a month ago and they've completely changed my playing in the short time. Sometimes all we need is a different perspective or teaching method for it to all come together. Thank you for keeping the content flowing during the Pandemic! And if anyone is reading this, I highly encourage you to check out Tomo's website and support him with a subscription. The lessons on there are just as amazing as this one and worth every $$$.

@@TomoFujitaMusic See this is why you're the best, it wasn't even an hour since I commented and you already responded. You can just tell all the love and enthusiasm you have for helping people. Seeing as you responded, I would like to add that over the last few months since the lockdown started (in March due to COVID), I have tried many different videos and over hundreds of hours of guitar lessons, tutorials, etc. and I can honestly say I've made the most progress with your videos in just one month. I still have a long way to go but I feel more confident now. I understand a lot more of what I play now (instead of focusing on patterns for scales and memorization) and I am finding myself playing more deliberate (in a musical sense), for example trying to land on key notes when playing along to chord changes. The difference in your approach makes it so simple for me to progress. For example, in this video when you say to approach the scale in just one octave - that's such a simple statement but I am sure most of us don't play with it in mind unless we think about it. I think we tend to over-complicate what we want to do, instead of being deliberate and musical with just a few notes. You are absolutely correct that in other instruments, we typically only focus on one or two octave ranges, it is so difficult to get lost in the complexity of the guitar that sometimes we need little reminders. Thanks again for the content, looking forward to see where this takes my playing!! :)

Amazing. Santana’s 1976 Live in London version is just immaculate. The guy most certainly doesn’t have an expansive vocabulary like many schooled players Eg. modes of melodic minor etc etc etc yet I’d choose his music above many schooled players for desert island 🏝 listening. One could argue the same using people like Jeff Beck etc. There’s something intangible yet important to the music equation.🙏🎸🎼

Appreciated bro - great chord demos for those of us who need quick instruction. I'll be checking back with your video to confirm how to play those corhds correctly after I get the leads done. Which, for us accomplished players, the leads can come easy, but the very specific chords can sometimes be more elusive, or need instruction. That's where I'm at and your chord voicings are easy to see and understand.
