    You go to car shows ? You track your car ? Your city/neighborhood has bumpy roads ? Get Coilovers.
    You just want to be lower? You have smooth neighborhood roads ? You go for random drives or just daily your car ? Get Springs.
    If you’re on a budget springs (HR or Eibach) would be best. More than half the price of the cheapest Coilovers. But if you got some money , or your driving a car that looks like you have money , get Coilovers.
    Just what I’ve learned from asking people who have had both and reading the comments on the forums

    Lowering springs might be cheaper but it will end up more expensive because you will lower the car but the stock shock absorber is meant for the stock height with stock springs and if you lower it, the stock shocks will start to overheat because of the lowered range of motion and they are basically working extra hard.

Also keep in mind some companies will offer lowering springs as an option for the car so if you are going aftermarket, try to find something within their specs since the company designed it to work the stock strut and shock.

      @@petterkarlen2749 guys, i got the complete spring setup removed, took the tension of the spring, and then cut out a ring. I put the tension back on, and put hose clamps on both the top and bottom, tightening them really good. I can't do anything else, because in the racing class I'm in you can't use coilovers, or use a lowering spring. So if you want to be faster in the corners, you need to lower your car by cutting the springs. This makes the damper sit deeper so the car is stiffer, and your center of gravity is lower. I've done one full season so far with the car with about 6 racing weekends, and I've also been on two wheel through a corner. And yet when I was refreshing my car this winter, the springs were still on very tight, because of the hose clamps. So yes, I do recommend cutting your springs if youre really low on costs, but please use hose clamps.

    If you just want the factory fender gap gone and not be slammed lowering springs will be fine. In case your shocks do fail relatively fast you can always opt to fit upgraded shocks as well. This will make the end cost be as much as coilovers but you split the cost over a couple of years, in case they do fail of course. On the plus side if you get decent brands for both you'll probably have a longer lasting and more comfortable setup.

    Personally, PERSONALLY, after owning both switching between many brands expensive and inexpensive for 10+ years being stanced, slammed, dumped, lowered, you name it. I like me some good old stock suspension rebuilt with adjustable dampening and upgraded sway bars(not to be commonly mistaken with strut bars) strut bars may help improve chassis rigidity, so it may also be a plus to help handling by a very small percentage when it comes to time. Best part about this setup is not having to worry about bumps or dips as often, damaging the natural structure of the coinciding suspension components, and overall comfort on a daily basis with improved handling on the twistes.

    Here's my take. Was thinking about coilovers for my 04 TSX. I've decided though to get Koni adjustable shocks with a set of H&R lowering springs. I'm never going to mess with the ride night and I do plan on tracking the car every now and then. I think an adjustable shocks and lowering spring is the way to go for me.

    If your lowering using your OE shocks and struts (non magnetic) you may not be happy with the ride control . I've had many experiences with this problem.
    You may find that the increased spring rate makes for a bouncy and annoying harsh ride , you may also find that your suspension travel is much reduced either hammering the bump stops (or riding on them ...even if you trim them) At a minimum you should consider SHORTER shock body aftermarket shocks and struts , with increased rebound valving for the increase in spring rate. Bilstein B8's or Koni Yellows are very good IMO , I would avoid Koni Streets as the shock body is in my experience , the same length as the OE's with only only slightly "stiffer" rebound control.... basically a OE spring , upgrade shock.. IMO

    My 87 Honda CRX Si has torsion bar setup in the front, fortunately a company named Heeltoe Automotive worked with Tein to make a Coilovers kit, since there are torsion bars in front, it’s only dampers for the front, and you adjust the torsion bars for ride height.

    I have eibach lowering springs and I can't wait to save up money for some coilovers. This things are a nightmare. I can't drive my friends. If 3 of us sit in the car the car rubs on my wheels (195/50/15), and cornering is like stock, the car leans to much on the side and loses a lot of speed. Coilovers are a better solution (in my world at least).

  • @aznxgundam978
    @aznxgundam978 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Depends, video hit it on the head; newer cars have EDC or Mutant Magnetic super powers, so only the highest end aftermarket coilovers are "worth" over OEM it if you're looking for both performance and looks. If you could care less, you're still gonna gain that adjustment ability from a standard coilover. Lowering springs get you that hotboi look while keeping your pretty good OEM suspension.

    Unless you're hitting the track on a regular basis, how often do you change dampening rate and height? I went with Bilstein B8 shocks and Eibach springs for my Fiesta ST, bang for the buck for daily use and some spirited driving on backroads, easier to pass vehicle inspection here in Europe as well. I mean if you can afford something like Bilstein B14 or KW V3 great but I'd rather buy other parts for the build.

    I got both. The downside of lowering sprigs is that you wont be able to use bigger tires if you want to because they will rob your fenders, but coilovers will allow you to do that, I mean not only lower, but also raise your car, it is a big difference. In my case I have to put air bugs inside my lowering spring to be able to switch 255/35 r19 to 255/40 r19 tires. So you tell me whish one is a better choice. think about it.

    • @arcanevoid9199
      @arcanevoid9199 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      this is very dependent on the car, this wouldnt apply to all of them. not all coil overs will let you raise your car, and again you could still have rubbing issues with coilovers
