It's "was", not "were". The mother as well as her children 'was' brought to the police station for interrogation. The mother and her children 'were' brought to the police station for interrogation. In the first sentence, you will notice that we use the singular verb 'was' because of the phrase 'as well as'. The verb agrees with the subject 'mother'.
