I work with Rice Windows and Doors in Southwest Florida as a Window and Door salesman. There is a reason that our company close rate is so much higher than our competition. Our sales "pitch" is simply educating our clients to make a decision based off of their needs. I have told more people that they do not need windows/sliding doors more times than I can count. Our reputation is good due to honest pricing and educating clients vs trying to sell them something they don't need. Great Video!
I had an Anderson sales rep come out today and he quoted me $14,000 for 3 windows. I told him I wanted to also get other quotes as this is our first time buying/replacing windows. He got mad and said, “I guess you guys are looking to install cheap windows only. Anderson is not the window for you .” Lol I guess not. Thanks for making our decision easier.
Wow! The same thing happened to us with *Andersen* as well. We had a semi-unique situation; we agreed to a quote and then cancelled within the three days because we ended up getting a quote for windows AND the subsequent, necessary refinishing of our exterior at the same price as Andersen. When I spoke with the Andersen sales person, it was a straight up hostile interaction and he said the exact same thing. We don't know from whom we'll buy, but we definitely know who we'll be telling all our friends to avoid after that.
This is good for comparing notes. We have 14 windows. So you can imagine what that quote was! In the end, his last offer was to do 8 of them for 24k. So similar experience. We shall see if they give us a hard time when we balk.
The urgency part of your presentation is what I fell for twice. Fortunately, I canceled the second one and then I watched this video. Now I understand. Thank you.
As someone who works for a large window manufacture, I really appreciate your brake down for this. I do not work in sales but have heard numerous stories of window salesmen and their tactics. Thank you
I must admit. You’re the best salesman I’ve ever seen. I have an in home sales business and also sold new construction for 7 years. I sold with the same approach as you. Fair pricing, no gimmicks, and all questions to help the people’s get what they truly want. I call it the straight shooting approach Honestly and sincerity sells!
I just went through three weeks of training at Champion Window and another week of shadowing a sales rep. All of the sleazy tactics you mentioned are employed at that company. I ran appointments Monday and Tuesday and decided I couldn’t do it anymore. I sent an email to my manager that night saying it wasn’t for me.
If I wasn't shopping for windows I would most likely never cross paths with you. Since I am about to purchase windows I was doing my homework (educating myself) about windows and door replacements. I found your channel here and wanted to say you are very informative and easy to watch. I thank you for that! If we happen to live a wee bit closer to one and another I would call on you. Thank you from Canada, Darryl Hubbard.
Thanks for watching, Darryl. I really do appreciate feedback. Our goal with the channel is, and always has been, to help people just like you get the information that they need to make an informed decision about their project. I wish you all of the best!
One thing the salesman did that really sat wrong with me was after asking him several times how much they cost and he did the big shock price and said he can tell we weren't ready for that and he'd just leave. We kept talking and he asked how much we were thinking of spending and if we could only do some of the windows which ones are "must haves". And after working the numbers for a couple minutes he was magically able to get those windows just over the number he needed for his biggest tier discount so we should be super happy and sign the contract now. When a salesman asks you how much do you have to spend it should always throw up a red flag.
You're an idiot lol if you're like most people, you can't or won't replace all your windows at once. Thats why he's asking you how much money you have to spend, so he knows what can fit in your budget. Buyers are the fucking swindlers ironically. Most salesman just want to educate you and help you. You idiots are so paranoid that work up these crazy scenarios in your head and have no clue you're being a jackasses. Don't be dumb
We watched this video the day before we called a few companies for quotes. The very first salesman did almost everything you talked about - the shocking price, the deal for today, touching himself, etc. We had to keep from laughing out loud until he finally left. His last words were like “80% of the people I make my pitch to never buy after I walk out the door.”
The "deal for today" increases efficiency. It keeps the salesman from having to see you over and over. That reduces the cost of business. The business can pass some of that on to you. It's literally just both parties helping each other out. Buyers are fucking idiots lol seriously. You guys think you're so smart and we just let you think that. The whole time we're thinking "holy fuck this guy's an idiot". You're so paranoid that you make up these ridiculous scenarios and look so stupid. The "today" price is usually less than 10% off the "crazy high" price. You're just poor and stupid and don't realize that everything is way more expensive now than it was just 5 years ago.
Literally had a recent salesman start at $104,000 then apply numerous discounts & a special sale and finally come down to $45,000. Not to mention all the claims about their product being superior than all others. Thank you so much for all your helpful videos!
That sounds like a scam! There are no such things as discounts that deep in the window industry. They are fictitious and unrealistic. I would get at least two more comparisons from local, family owned companies.
Great video! I started in the windows sales business 6 weeks ago and disagree with 75% of the tactics. Sometimes people do need a push just because they have a difficult time deciding. My approach is more open and honest and im catching heat from my manager. But end of the day you either really need windows and doors or you don't. If I can be helpful and offer a good or great product then all that's left is price. Alot people have no clue the cost of windows and doors and now in 2021 going into 2022 the cost of everything has been increasing. Its not the same price it was 1 year ago or 5 years ago. I've heard these comments and people have unrealistic thoughts on price. But come back full circle, IF you truly have a need, bite the bullet and pull trigger on your home improvements. They will pay for themselves over time. Once again, great video and I feel I'm alot like you. Its nice that your successful in your Business and gives me faith i can be a solid honest sales rep and have a career I'm proud of. Thank you!
"For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul?" Matthew 16:26 I'm glad to hear that, Robert. Unfortunately, there are still a lot of people out there in our industry who are just flat out predatory and deceptive. and it's only going to change by people like you who decide to do it differently. As long as you keep conducting yourself with integrity and honesty you will be successful. I wish you all of the best.
I'm a career sales guy who left audio video sales to join a window company. I haven't started training yet, but I can see some similar tactics that they implement. I will move forward with the new opportunity, but I will either succeed or fail standing on my morals. I can't stand sleazy sales tactics.
I started a website where you can find a great window dealer in your area. These are companies that I know personally and can recommend. Check out TheWindowExperts.com
I work for a larger window manufacturer and we're taught value selling. I can agree with the tactics you coined as "sleazy" are correct. We are taught to stay away from most of those, however "first call close" is a metric for performance for all companies, so the buy today has to be at least presented. Overall, like you said, if you are presenting a solution to a problem with a window or installation no one else offers makes or breaks a sale. Sometimes it is too expensive for the customer and they have to re-visit the project in a few years or potentially finance. When it comes to the ads online, as you said, "We HAVE to take advantage of this". The object of the ads is to get you to schedule an appointment, that's really it. To address the budget comments where people are reluctant to answer: We are at least told to ask that because a large number of customers (at least where I live) do not know what they want their window to be made out of. A budget helps sales people in my company know what products we can offer to the consumer. Ex: "My budget is $300 per window" that lets me know that we are probably looking at vinyl. On the other hand, if you are working with a dishonest sales person, that price will likely land a little above or below the budget you set. Just a few thoughts from the other side of the coin.
I just watched this video and disagree with your budget comment. I believe a good salesman wouldn't need to ask for the budget because an effective discussion of window types should also include a price range associated with them. If you're educating the customer effectively, THEY will naturally let you know which category they fall in and you can go from there. I simply watched about 3 of Jeff's videos and was able to determine what window type I want and where it will land monetarily, without the mention of any "budget." I think that's the difference between a good salesman and a bad one. A good salesman knows how to get the information they need without potentially offending or turning off their client.
This video is great. I need 21 new windows and came across this video and omg is this video describe sleazy sales perfectly. I set in my head regardless that I get 3 quotes before I chose. First window company had these very aggressive sales tactics. It was kinda hilarious being able to see though this aggressive sales approach. I told him I was getting two other quotes and he laughed at me. He asked me if the problem was price. But I told him the price was good. Price was about 80 percent higher than it should have been. He look so confused and I think I basically disarmed him. It’s was not worth haggling. Though I did tell him I was still very interested. I’m going to call back pretend I’m going to buy just to see how much lower they are willing to go. Thanks Jeff, this video is awesome.
This is an awesome video! I had a Anderson Renewals guy in my house today. Got the same shoulder tap 3 times. After the 2nd one I was like, “ok, this guy is just a little touchy. Weird but ok”… Didn’t realize it was a sales tactic. I live in AZ or I’d be down at your shop tomorrow. World needs more honest business like yours. Thank you for this.
Thanks for watching! Fortunately, there are companies out there like ours that value customers and doing what is right. We're compiling a list of like minded window companies at jeffslist.com where you can enter your area and we can connect you with someone in your area.
This video was hilarious! I had a window salesman at my home the other night and he used almost every one of the gimmicks you outlined in the video. I am glad I did not fall for any of them. Thank you for the video; it is truly helpful to people and it supports the honest companies who don't use these sleazy techniques.
@@HoustonWindowExperts yes your videos are informative he tried to sell me triple pane double Hung he didn't wanna here about double pane single Hung windows
Jeff does not work as middle man he owns his company this is a response to a comment below, I am in the market for windows right now and if Jeff was here in Mn I would be happy to buy from him, this guy is honest and deserves his profit margin, and i might add it is a very fair profit margin, asi been dealing with these window sales companys I have found a large percent of what he has said in the videos to be true Jeff I think you deserve to give your self a raise
Another wonderful video!!!! I am replacing my original single pane aluminum windows. I had a few companies try to pressure me by using a few of the techniques you mentioned. The first company asked if all of the parties who could make a decision would be present. When the representative arrived he wanted to do a 90 minute presentation and I had to tell him I had an appointment. He didn't have a sample of the window I was interested in. A second company wanted to tell me their sale will end and prices will go up at the end of the month. He said he had to get special managerial approval to provide me the best discount. I looked up the company and saw they have the same sale 2-3 times per year. Finally, another company wanted to sell me on Lindsay vinyl windows when I wanted a quote on Marvin fiberglass windows. They bashed how Marvin windows were not only more expensive but also inferior to Lindsay (which I had never heard of before). When I told them if I go vinyl, I would more than likely go with Amsco, he told me he was concerned because he never heard of them before. So I was shocked when the quote I received was $2k more than the quote I received for Marvin fiberglass from a different company. The salesperson got nasty and said, "Sorry, I thought you knew what you wanted. I guess I was wrong. If you go with Marvin you would not get the thin frames you are looking for. Lindsay windows would give this to you."
Just had a consult yesterday. You must have been listening. Wow we didn’t buy but we are older and have seen a lot of sleaze over the years. Great video. Thanks.
I had a mr sleazy salesman from windowsUSA, stayed way too long in my house. Set up an easel, had a big suitcase like box and pulled all his papers and samples. It was ridiculous. He did most of the things you said and more. He must have asked me 8 times if I would say yes and sign a document. Every time I said no. And at the end I looked him straight in the eye and with disgust in my voice I said no for the last time and he got the message and left. I said to myself never again. He was trying to sell white vinyl window. Super wide borders. Ugly. I did get a $100 walmart gift card out of it that he gave me right off the bat. But I knew from the beginning that is was just a cheap tactic. I spent it happily for wasting my time. He even had me talk to a guy claiming to be his boss to try and schmooze me. The whole event was sad on their part.
Yes, them and another company from down the road from in Arkansas uses that exact same “let me call my manager” gimmick. The competitor to the company you mentioned is WORSE because they present their window in comparison to a cheaper window they claim to have but actually don’t. Very sleazy and disgusting tactic. I really don’t know how anyone can employ such tactics.
Thanks for this video! It’s a must have before letting a salesman in your home. Power Windows recently came into my home for a “quote”. I didn’t expect it to be a 90 minute sales pitch and luckily for me this pissed me off enough to be a tough sale. One of the tactics they used was “Other” prices. They listed prices for Anderson, Pella, Home Depot subcontractors before giving their price, so much cheaper than the rest. I was insulted they felt they could tell me what others charged, as if they wouldn’t lie and I’d trust them on it. I made a mental note to compare the prices. Other price drops: a discount if I provided before/after energy bills, so they could “prove our windows do what we promise”. I told them I’d sleep on it but he kept pushing. From how his attitude changed, I realized they don’t sell after they leave the house. I said thinking it over was a principle and I wasn’t changing my decision. He left and took all the price quotes he previously wrote down, including the one for the job, which told me what I needed to know.
I just don't understand why people think they can get away with that. Apparently there are enough suckers out there in the world where they would stop doing it this way.
I had Power come and give me his whole spill. He just made himself at home. Watching TV and asking me about the sports team. He also gave me prices of the box stores. Their price was higher at 9k for 5 windows and box stores were a little cheaper according to him. I forget exact number, but he offered me 7.5k if I would let him take pictures as a promo. It was so long I was ready to kick him out. I called Lowes just to see their price and it was 5.5k for Pella 150. Still have not decided on windows yet. Never will do business with Power.
Yep. My boss taught me all of those tactics. I felt sleezy had a bad close rate. People saw right thru it... threw them out the door and replaced it with look here's our bottom bottom this is how much money we will make....people appreciate the honesty. I did more in sales last month than our entire team COMBINED. People see right thru all that crap and I absolutely hated doing it. The dave yoho days are dead.
Thanks so much for this video. Just last night we had our first window salesman at our home. Thought it would be 1/2 hour (I’m naive), but it was about 3 hours & he used many of these “tactics”. One thing I noticed is his monthly breakdown pricing was so much less if we said “yes” now vs “yes” later. When prodded, he said the “yes now”% interest was at 9% but he couldn’t guarantee that price later so he used 18%
Wow. What a great video as all the others you have posted. Thank you for your wisdom, you are awesome at what you do. You have given us a great insight on what really happens and I hope this saves someone from being pressured by these bullies.
I just had Anderson at my home and my goodness. The gentleman wanted to charge me 45k for 7 windows and a door. I was beyond shocked! Most window quotes were about 7 to 10k on the high end in my area. This guy tried to get me with all of these gimmicks. I told him I wanted to sit and think about it and he tried soooo hard to get me to give him an answer right then and there.
Just had Anderson window sales guys do a presentation. Everything that was said in this video was exactly what I was told. I was given a 93k estimate for inserts for 13 windows
Love this video. Have seen many of the sleazy things. Very informative! Anyone considering windows should watch this and many other videos from you! Thank you!
WOW, Thanks for your informative educational videos. I’m a 1st time home builder client, researching window companies for a build in a warm oceanfront climate (like Galveston TX area). Needing to educate myself on best product NOT BEST SALES PITCH. This information is priceless. I’d love to chat with your company regarding my project.
Thank you for watching and your comment. If you're in the Houston area, please give us a call. There are some areas that we do not service, let's chat. If you're not in the Houston area, please check out JeffsList.com. we have a list of great window companies all around the USA.
This is absolute GOLD! I’m an outside sales rep for a bath remodeling company. Great company, but it’s this one call close nonsense. This is 2024 and in H-town, most people are hip to the 1980s tactics of “today and today only”. I previously sold windows for a well-known “factory direct” company from Florida, and they had a “one call close” approach that, the more you sell it for, the more you made. I didn’t like that. Hahahaha, “bounce up and down on the window”? I started out with that company! Good sir, if your company isn’t hiring for reps who appreciate your approach, do you know any companies in H-town who are that use a present-day, non-sleazy approach?
Jeff, if you add 15 min to this you could take this talk on the convention circuit to every home improvement show across the continent. Or your own tour to break the salesman
I had Andersen windows out last week and he used just about every gimmick you described. I had warned my wife before about what he would probably say and she was shocked when it was all true
Funny, I had this exact experience just a few days ago. We didn't bite because I like doing my research. I found better windows thanks to your channel 😀. Thanks
I just went through this today. Thank you for all of your educational videos. I’ve learned a lot about windows from you videos. I feel much better equipped to make a smart purchase. Too bad you’re not in my area of South Texas.
Jeff, thanks for the videos. Honestly super genuine approach which I discovered was not the case in my city. I would like to know if you have contacts in the Norfolk or Virginia Beach area that share your same view point. Or if you have a reliable source for window contractor reviews, that would be great. I’m tired of the old salesman pitches. Cheers!
Just had Renewal by Andersen come today. He waited in his car for 15 minutes while we "talked about it". When we asked for a day or two to make sure the (cough $40k) he quoted us for 10 windows and a door ... he started going off on how Vinyl Windows will be replaced in 10 years and they'll replace it for free haha... sure bud. It's amazing that he used every pitch you described in this video - absolutely amazing.
So go buy only and you’ll need windows again real quick. Over 70% of windows changed are vinyl less than 10 yrs old from companies which promised life time warranties and are out of business. Everyone thinks they can trick the system. If renewal by andersen wasn’t great value and lasting product they’d be also out of business won’t you say ?
@@mrs.ruseva1395 i think the bigger issue is that they claim to not be high pressure sales guys, dropped a 40k quote to me and wanted us to make a decision while he was in the driveway. Then after saying we'd need a few days - he went off on how vinyl windows are terrible. That's great, but again the vinyl windows were less than 1/3 the price quoted. I also had Pella and Marvin quote 30% less for new install and not replacement. One week later I received a call from the "Assistant to the regional sales manager" that said our project is really intriguing and they'd like to come out again and give better pricing. I said if the pricing isn't 50% of the quote - don't bother and surprisingly I haven't heard from them again .... yet. They're pushy, shady, old school used car salesmen. The product may be fine and yes if it was complete crap people would say it and their business would suffer. However, I bet if those same people could understand that they paid a 30% premium for an arguably equal product (Andersen, Pella, Marvin) I feel like they'd be a bit more sour to Renewal by Andersen.
I agree on sales gimmicks, like installing windstorm rated windows but have to have a engineer to approve the storm window coverings. It’s my option to cover my windows in a storm. So it’s a sales pitch to sale me windstorm covers.
I can appreciate your comment. I will tell you that if you live in certain areas of the country there will be requirements that are imposed by the state. I always recommend that you hire someone who's willing to abide by those requirements. I've seen people who did not follow those requirements and later when they had an insurance claim their claim was denied. It can get tricky.
Houston window has some of the best window vids out there ..I had an estimate the other day from a place in South Florida and they used all of these slezzy tactics. 60 k for windows but I get a free cruise if I sign the deal today. All my other quotes are in the 28 to 30 k range. People do your research
I had a window company come out 33 windows and a five foot slider 87,000 he had a special for 67,000. The next day they called and found more deals the price is now 36000 that’s 50,000 less then the first price
The gimmick I was sold last night by Power Remodel was that Power and Anderson are the only companies certified and you are taking a risk if you go with anyone else.
I just had Champion Windows out yesterday for a quote and they did exactly as you described. I didn’t fall for it….Kirby and Rainbow vacuum sales people do the same and I have suffered through them before as well lol.
Some of tactics from Renewal by Anderson: All manufacturers raise price at same date by 5% in March, just a few days from now; Full cost of window install will be recouped by increase in sales prices of home; replacing windows will cut utilities by 50% when energy audit showed that I had to replace windows and more to achieve 50% reduction. None sense. Tom, Highlands Ranch, CO
I have been watching your videos and they are great! I wish you were in the Dallas area. I didn't realize the window business could be so shady. I am not sure if we need to replace our windows or just replace glass but I am hoping with my search I can find a good window company to go with. Unfortunately you don't have anyone you recommend in my area. Thanks again for your informative videos!
This video was done several years ago, but all those sales tactics & manipulation techniques have not changed, lol. I like the argon gas ploy. Yep, seems like that one is used word for word from the sleeze book.
I have learned more from watching a variety of your videos than I could ever learn from any in-home salesman. So informative in so many realms. Years ago we had a salesman from Sears come out and talk to us about siding. He had all the props and talked a good game. Also, my job was a night job and I had to leave the presentation after an hour 1.5 hours. My wife called me later on and said "That salesman told me that he deserved a kiss". Talk about sleazy. Of course, we didn't go with Sears but geez...Talk about slimey.
@@HoustonWindowExperts Yes sir. I could not believe it. I asked my wife if she wanted to file a complaint and she said that the best complaint was to not give Sears our business.
Thank you for the video! Honest and straight forward... I anticipate starting with another company doing sales soon. I know most of the tactics, I've had "those" people in my house too, talking to MY Wife and I... I'm like look.... "save us both some time and a headache...what's the bottom line, or at least close to it"? Some will get it and work with you, others are determined to stick to the script. Thank you from Middle TN! You guys are how business should always be done.
@@HoustonWindowExperts Integrity, honesty and quality... three things that rarely go along with a solution guy in your home. Nice job Houston Window Experts!
To present accurate pricing, we must take measurements of people's windows and determine what type of installation will be required. Once we have all of that information, we can print out a detailed estimate for the project. There is no reason for negotiation because our pricing is accurate and fair. We do offer a 5% discount for people who are willing to write a check instead of use a credit card because that saves us money. In most cases, we can give estimates on site during our visit.
Since you sell 20 different windows how do you avoid quoting pella, Anderson and Marvin at customer’s request so they can make an informed decision? Surely you’re questions pair it down to more than one window. Or do you hone in on one window and give general ranges for the others?
Even with many brands to choose from, there are typically only be a couple of products that suit our clients interest the best. That is the reason for having an appointment and spending some time in the discovery process. There is much more to this then just quoting pricing on windows. I think that is where many window companies fail. They have a window that they insist you buy from them regardless of its suitability to your needs.
power windows also said, when i was balking, that he would go out and ask his boss if they have two incentives. one is to allow us to take a survey because feedback is necessary. the other was to let our house be used for pictures *if* we do all the windows. when he stepped out i told my wife he will come back and tell us he will be 'allowed' to give us those incentives for our area code. he said 'wave me in when you are done talking and i will come in and tell you what my boss said.' i waved him in quick and lo and behold! both incentives were 'allowed'' and he sat at the head of the table- we did not have a chair there, but he pulled a chair and sat there. i told my wife i was annoyed by that because we do not need to move chairs to the head of the table.
Actually most of the time it’s not a tactic it’s just where they keep the paperwork.unless he was making it very obvious then you were probably looking too hard 😅.most guys I know that have sold windows for a long time know the tactics but just come out and are blunt and straight forward honest about everything . Again this is the guys that have been doing it a long time bc it always comes down to 3 things budget need and timing.
fantastic. i'm dealing with a company in southeast florida that does all of these! I said no thank you. then watched this video. One question virgin vinyl or aluminum? Pros/Cons Recommendation for south florida heat and humidity.
We love your videos!! Thank you for all the information and also for make us laugh.. We want to buy impact windows, do you know a company in Miami, FL?
Caught this at the perfect time. Just had a sales guy over last night. Replacement windows. Reputable company. Wife kinda stuck on this brand in fact (she has some experience in the home building industry). And this guy wasn't super sleazy, but you mention a number of areas that resonate. 1. Start with a monumentally high price. Use a bunch of discounts to bring that down (even then it is shockingly high). 2. Said 60-90 minutes, and it was 2 1/2 hours (on a Friday evening at dinnertime). 3. Heat lamp through the glass samples to "prove" they work. 4. 0% down delayed payment option So the question is - if we like this company, can we recover this? The company gets decent ratings, the model is good (for how the installs work). Can I give them a cold-shoulder approach until they follow up and negotiate them down? Or is the initial approach a good enough sign we should look elsewhere?
I would suggest completing your due diligence first. Once everything else checks out, make them an offer that is about 20% less than what they're offering you. I would make them come down multiple times before signing an agreement. If anyone else carries the same product, get another quote. If no one else carries the same product, you're probably getting screwed.
@@HoustonWindowExperts Thank you. We have 14 windows; we couldnt possibly afford what they wanted for all of them. (at their price) But ultimately, the "last deal of the night" (and he didn't hard sell us at the end.) was still 3K per window, for 8 windows. I live in the Balto DC area. I figure it is more likely that a 'good' price is closer to 2k a window. (for all 14 - these are all pretty standard doublehungs).
The company does not tell the sales rep what the extra amount you sold it for and they do not split the extra money with them. It’s all paid by a percentage of the total amount. Everything else was spot on.
This reminds me of the company that came out to give me a quote on a new shower. The price was 16,000$. I was shocked and said no. They called back a few days later and offered 12,000$. I still said no.
@@HoustonWindowExperts Not impressed. The salesman was nice and the only real pressure selling that was done was on "double hung" windows and lifetime warranty. Did a soft play-down of other windows. I mentioned single hung more than once during our conversation and he would go back to the double hung. Sample window, NO STICKER. I asked about visibility rating, who manufactured there windows, what type of glass was used (I asked if it was Cardinal glass, he did not know), asked about the screen on the window, asked about the vinyl. At a later point he told me that I made him feel like he was on his first day of selling windows because he doesn't get these kind of questions. OH! and when I directed him to the table I took the head of the table chair. He was done after 1.5 hours. I thanked him for coming and told he that he had given me a lot to think about.
Hello, what about the lead paint federal law? This company after we agreed on a price slipped in 119 per window x16 windows for removal of lead paint. Should the price of the windows include the cost for removal of the window if it tested positive for lead paint?
If lead paint is present you can expect the price of installation to go up. It's not unfair to add additional cost to the price of insulation if additional work is needed. Actually, I think $119 per window is very reasonable.
I'm on your videos very much, I'm in the process of shopping for windows and boy am I stressed I've cancel one order already should I get windows from the manufacturer will I get a better deal.
Most manufacturers will not deal directly with consumers. If they would, that would cause me concern. Manufacturer arrangements are typically with distributers and dealers. If you're looking for a great window company near you, go check out JeffsList.com
I owned my own business with my Folks years ago and we served the best food in our fine dining. That was our goal along with integrity. We were successful. Sadly more today only care about money and don’t care about integrity anymore.
Just had Gulf Coast Windows over and they did the same thing. Spoke negatively of other window companies and had a binder of reviews. Didn’t care for his sales tactics and ultimately asked him to leave.
I had a guy at a lumber yard design my house. I took a standard design and stretched it here, there, etc. I got the materials list, paid him for the design and went and bought the materials from the big home center. I bought the truss system through him....The guy got pissed....but I saved like $20k on lumber....that's why. He said I would be sending back tons of materials because of defects....not true...I had a cube of 2x6x20" that were arrow straight....as well as a whole cube of 2x4 studs that were perfect....every one of them.
Thanks so much for this video! We are having our window salesperson come out tonight. We didn't go looking. They came to us because they have "other customers in the neighborhood". I do really want a new front bay window though. The window rattles in the wind and wind comes in around the sides. I don't have any issues with the rest of our windows but I do wonder something. Our house was built sometime in the '80s. I think they are double-hung vinyl windows. I read that most windows are good for about 20 years so does that automatically mean we will get good benefits if we get all new windows now or not?
It sounds like you're about to be high pressure. I would suggest you go look for another window company near you so you can do some comparison. Go check out JeffsList.com
I will definitely check your list. Thanks. I needed to check reviews before they got here. That is what led me to your youtube channel. If I am not feeling air coming through the other windows, would you still suggest because of their age that they get replaced? I am anxious to see how many of those tactics they will use. I have already to my husband that we are not going to buy it today.
If you're uncomfortable in your home, new windows will help drastically. They will also help you save some money on your energy bills. You will also find it it will be quieter inside your home and easier to keep clean.
My defense against a sleazy sales pitch is embedded deep inside of my sigma brain. Whether your title is a salesperson or you are a complete stranger, you are treated as a salesperson and ever more so if you are being excessively nice to me. I stand guard until I find a reason to fully trust you (this rarely happens). However, I try to be up front about what I know and make it clear that I don't want to waste our time but serious about doing business together. The discussion is to negotiate terms and price. Equally, I'm hesitant to fall for the low price tactics too as there may be hidden costs that level up in the end. You get what you pay for but can easily overpay in most situations. Understand what you are buying including what you want, what you need, what you don't, and stay clear of sleazy sales people by telling them you have done your homework and will not tolerate the pressure to sign anything. Most will back off and neutralize their approach. Most are scared as they were not trained to handle you. Some will keep going with their push. Send those folks on their way back to finish watching Glengarry Glen Ross DVD collection.
Not window related but recently I've dealt with a few sales reps for some work I wanted done on my house. I clearly explained what I wanted and they all end up quoting me for a job that 3x times what I wanted and keep trying to push all sorts of upgrades and upsells on me that I told them I didn't want. Either that or they tell me that I need to get additional work done due to "safety issues" and they'll have to inform the city if I don't do it. I tell them to go ahead as I know there are no issues; surprisingly I never hear back from them.
Add this to the salesperson left with his iPad facing us. We knew we were being monitored. Came back in and down and dirty “my employee discount”. If they were monitoring and/or recording, that would not only be unethical, but illegal. BE WARNED. Have them take their electronic devices out to the car with them ! We are victims of an EF4 tornado. Wile I intent to upgrade my windows, these sleaze sales tactics are not helping. And, we are not biting. Thank you for your videos. Too bad you are not in ATL.
Thank you for watching and your comment! I wish we could be everywhere! We have started a list of really great window companies all over the country. You can see if we have someone in your area. Go to JeffsList.com and check it out.
I got estimate from renewal Anderson windows with $7,000 in discounts on 7 sliding windows cost $21,400 91x 35 and 92x 46 the rest are little smaller not sure if it’s a good deal way more than I thought compared to vinyl are Anderson windows really that more costly and are all renewal salesman the same as far as prices? Would appreciate your help I want to throw away money Thanks
If those companies ran their 'best ads' and no customers signed up, imagine what will happen to their business if they do not come up with a better deal or at least recycle the previous ads.
Do it. Try to find a great window company instead. I started a website to help people locate a great window company near them. We may have someone in your area. Please visit TheWindowExperts.com
I am currently shopping for windows and have had a wide range of sales tactics from my home visits. Have had three in home and one business does everything through ph calls and emails. I wish there was a place like you guys where I live at. By the way I live 20 min from Pella and even worked a summer at Pella Corp. I also live a hour away from DSM. So if you read this and know a place I should contact for a 5th or more option please let me know.
Thanks for watching, Paul. You can contact us at info@houstonwindowexperts.com someone in the office can let you know if we have someone we can recommend in your area.
I think that their sales presentation has a lot of manipulation in it. They make the window sound a lot better than it really is. The bottom line is that it's an overpriced window.
Wow thank you Mr Jeff.. my wife called them for an estimate and she told me the first thing they said was “ is your husband gonna be there too” that I had to be present. So at first I thought why would I have to present what if I’m at work..so my wife told them I was and they asked what time I would be home so that they can show up when I’m there.. after watching your videos makes sense now..so again thank you for your honest reply Mr Jeff.
Renewal by Anderson just left my house. The salesman came, I stayed through part of the show and got called away on a work related issue. Luckily :-) because I had to leave he will still give me the 10% same day discount off the 12k front door; plus the 33% off for some other thing. He’s going to email the quote tonight... I’ll see how this goes. Love the video. Thanks
While Andersen does make some good products I just don't approve of the sales tactics that Renewal by Andersen employs; they tend take a high-pressure approach to selling. If you do have them out I would recommend that, at the very least, you give it a couple of days after the appointment before you make a decision.
@@HoustonWindowExperts wish I would have seen this video earlier! We just purchased 23 windows from Renewal by Andersen earlier this week. The salesman did these exact same tactics you are mentioning. Our windows are original windows from 1965 and definitely needed replaced. I looked into the Andersen windows and heard nothing but great things except the very high price from buyers. Let me just say we're paying over $2,500 per window. Crazy high price. I hear people say you get what you pay for. Great video just wish we saw it sooner!
Victim of buy or die window salesman.. Safestyle UK ... Stayed till gone midnight and wouldn't leave till I signed the forms ... To get him to leave ...
Awesome video and super relevant as I have a guy coming out to look at our windows in two days. I’ll def be taking the head of the table approach. Lol but also these techniques were similar to what I went through when I had two companies come out to do estimates for gutter grates. I’m a stonewall and sent em both away after their quote. Lol
Good job!! Thank you for watching. Please let me know how it goes. We're looking for great dealers to add to our list of recommend companies around the USA. We get dozens of request every day asking for help.
@@HoustonWindowExperts This is a small local company so when I called I talked directly with the owner which makes me feel better their not just sending out some random salesman but I get he still wants the work. We have all wood windows now that are painted on the outside and just beat up and their stained on the inside so I’d like to keep that look I just want the vinyl finish on the outside so they don’t get anymore wear and tear. What’s a fair price for say a pella std window size, glass doesn’t matter to me, as Anderson’s are prob gonna be outta are price or what other company would you recommend. Single pane so it only goes up and down I don’t want the dbl where it flops open.
@@HoustonWindowExperts Allegedly the windows we have now are Anderson but they don’t have the name on em like I’ve come to know, my parents have Anderson windows and we have then in our four seasons room which was an ad on from the previous owners, so idk this house was built in 86 maybe Anderson didn’t plaster their name on stuff like they do now. I just wanna keep the stained wood interior look to match the trim we have while getting a window with protection on the outside.
That's the best way to be successful and sleep well at night.
I stay in SWF and am curious of good windows options.
Good to know! I’m in SWFL and looking to build a house in the next 12-18 months. Will definitely give you all a look
Thanks for watching
Please teach California companies this
I had an Anderson sales rep come out today and he quoted me $14,000 for 3 windows. I told him I wanted to also get other quotes as this is our first time buying/replacing windows. He got mad and said, “I guess you guys are looking to install cheap windows only. Anderson is not the window for you .”
Lol I guess not. Thanks for making our decision easier.
That's awful. I'm glad you escaped his tactics.
Great story! Thank you for sharing.
This is good for comparing notes. We have 14 windows. So you can imagine what that quote was! In the end, his last offer was to do 8 of them for 24k. So similar experience. We shall see if they give us a hard time when we balk.
I got the same from Anderson. Had an attitude when they walked in.
I call it the straight shooting approach
Honestly and sincerity sells!
Good for you!
Yikes! I agree
I had one guy ask me how much I would like to spend on new windows. I didn’t answer.
I love it!
Just low-ball to get rid of em. "$100k?! I'll do $10k and you have a deal" 🤣
This applies to cars, siding, roofs etc. Great video and insight.
Hahaha... It's so predictable.
That's crazy!! Where do they get the nerve??
Thank you for watching.
My sales man started at $72,000 and gave me a 44% discount. $40,400 was the price for replacing my Double hung windows, color white.
Thank you!
Thank you for watching and your comments. I can tell that you're going to do great and go a long way by helping people.
"For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul?" Matthew 16:26
I'm glad to hear that, Robert.
Good for you!!
Fantastic information that you have shared! I absolutely would buy from you if I lived in your area. Thank you Jeff!
Max, thank you for watching and sharing your point of view.
Hahaha... I'm glad I could be of help. Keep me posted.
@@HoustonWindowExperts just did :)
Great, I hope it helps.
This video was hilarious! I had a window salesman at my home the other night and he used almost every one of the gimmicks you outlined in the video. I am glad I did not fall for any of them. Thank you for the video; it is truly helpful to people and it supports the honest companies who don't use these sleazy techniques.
Thank you!
I had a salesman come to my house yesterday the same tactics you described quoted me fifty grand on 32 windows....iam gonna buy an install myself
I'm glad you didn't fall for his sleazy tricks.
@@HoustonWindowExperts yes your videos are informative he tried to sell me triple pane double Hung he didn't wanna here about double pane single Hung windows
Hmmm... He probably didn't have that option.
Thank you for watching
What a bunch of clowns!!
Have you checked out JeffsList.com yet?
Just had a consult yesterday. You must have been listening. Wow we didn’t buy
but we are older and have seen a lot of sleaze over the years. Great video. Thanks.
SLEAZE is the name of the 'game'.
That takes the cake!
Yikes! I started a website to help people locate a great window company near them. We may have someone in your area. Please visit TheWindowExperts.com
Hahaha. Good for you!
When prodded, he said the “yes now”% interest was at 9% but he couldn’t guarantee that price later so he used 18%
That's crazy! I hope you find a great window company soon. We may know somebody in your area. You can go visit JeffsList.com to see if we do.
Wow. What a great video as all the others you have posted. Thank you for your wisdom, you are awesome at what you do. You have given us a great insight on what really happens and I hope this saves someone from being pressured by these bullies.
Thank you for watching!
Wow .... I heard that story all the time. If you're looking for a great window company near you, check out my list... JeffsList.com
Just had Anderson window sales guys do a presentation. Everything that was said in this video was exactly what I was told. I was given a 93k estimate for inserts for 13 windows
That’s crazy.
Love this video. Have seen many of the sleazy things. Very informative! Anyone considering windows should watch this and many other videos from you! Thank you!

I am watching from Ontario Canada. I love what I have learned so far. Thank you.
There aren't too many of us....
Very informative! I appreciate your “tell it like it is” style. Thank you!
Thank you for watching
Jeff, if you add 15 min to this you could take this talk on the convention circuit to every home improvement show across the continent. Or your own tour to break the salesman
Hahahaha. Thank you!
I had Andersen windows out last week and he used just about every gimmick you described. I had warned my wife before about what he would probably say
and she was shocked when it was all true
Unbelievable!
Funny, I had this exact experience just a few days ago. We didn't bite because I like doing my research. I found better windows thanks to your channel 😀. Thanks
Awesome!!
Thank you. I got this exact pitch and I'm glad I saw this video before committing.
Great!
I just went through this today. Thank you for all of your educational videos. I’ve learned a lot about windows from you videos. I feel much better equipped to make a smart purchase. Too bad you’re not in my area of South Texas.
Great 👍. Thank you for watching. We may have a window dealer near you that we can recommend. If you like to check it out go to JeffsList.com

@@mnngstaryep, that’s the “rehash department”. Such a scumbag way of doing business.
Thank you for watching and your comment!
Yes that’s the latest gimmick. It’s through Destination Motivation.
As a matter of fact…you mentioning “South Florida” and free cruise, I bet I know who you had out 😂
I had a window company come out 33 windows and a five foot slider 87,000 he had a special for 67,000. The next day they called and found more deals the price is now 36000 that’s 50,000 less then the first price
Yikes!
The gimmick I was sold last night by Power Remodel was that Power and Anderson are the only companies certified and you are taking a risk if you go with anyone else.
That's a lie! Any manufacturer will out of their product regardless of who installed it if it was installed correctly.
I just had Champion Windows out yesterday for a quote and they did exactly as you described. I didn’t fall for it….Kirby and Rainbow vacuum sales people do the same and I have suffered through them before as well lol.
I'm glad you survived the attack! If you're looking for a great window company near you, please check out JeffsList.com
Yes, I had forgotten about those. Thank you for commenting.
Cindy, thank you for watching and for your comment. Have you been to JeffsList.com yet?
We do have a dealer in the Dallas area that we can recommend.
Oh, WOW! A kiss?
@@HoustonWindowExperts Yes sir. I could not believe it. I asked my wife if she wanted to file a complaint and she said that the best complaint was to not give Sears our business.
Good point
Thank you for the video! Honest and straight forward... I anticipate starting with another company doing sales soon. I know most of the tactics, I've had "those" people in my house too, talking to MY Wife and I... I'm like look.... "save us both some time and a headache...what's the bottom line, or at least close to it"? Some will get it and work with you, others are determined to stick to the script. Thank you from Middle TN! You guys are how business should always be done.
Thank you for watching and your comment. I wish you the very best of luck!
@@HoustonWindowExperts Integrity, honesty and quality... three things that rarely go along with a solution guy in your home. Nice job Houston Window Experts!
Thank you!
So how do you present your pricing? What kind of specials do you offer if any? Do you incentivize to close a sale?
They have a window that they insist you buy from them regardless of its suitability to your needs.
power windows also said, when i was balking, that he would go out and ask his boss if they have two incentives. one is to allow us to take a survey because feedback is necessary. the other was to let our house be used for pictures *if* we do all the windows. when he stepped out i told my wife he will come back and tell us he will be 'allowed' to give us those incentives for our area code. he said 'wave me in when you are done talking and i will come in and tell you what my boss said.' i waved him in quick and lo and behold! both incentives were 'allowed''
and he sat at the head of the table- we did not have a chair there, but he pulled a chair and sat there. i told my wife i was annoyed by that because we do not need to move chairs to the head of the table.
What a shyster!
Yep. Power Home Remodeling. Well aware of those tactics.
Another tactic they use is putting a bunch of checks in their folder from past customers, so when they open the folder, you see all the deposits.
Yes, that's right. I forgot about that.
I prefer aluminum in that area.
LeafFilter gutter guards did the same sales tactics. That instantly turned me off. I'll just clean them. lol
I hate those types of sales people

Caught this at the perfect time. Just had a sales guy over last night. Replacement windows. Reputable company. Wife kinda stuck on this brand in fact (she has some experience in the home building industry). And this guy wasn't super sleazy, but you mention a number of areas that resonate.
1. Start with a monumentally high price. Use a bunch of discounts to bring that down (even then it is shockingly high).
2. Said 60-90 minutes, and it was 2 1/2 hours (on a Friday evening at dinnertime).
3. Heat lamp through the glass samples to "prove" they work.
4. 0% down delayed payment option
So the question is - if we like this company, can we recover this?
That is way too much for that window.

Crazy!!
Loved the video. I actually have a window company coming next week. Thanks for all the tips.

@@HoustonWindowExperts Window World is the company that will be coming by. And comments? I live in lower Alabama.
They are a great company if you're looking for the cheapest window you can buy. The quality will be reflected in their price.
@@HoustonWindowExperts Do you know of any reputable companies for people who live in the lower southeastern part of the state of Alabama?

I owned my own business with my Folks years ago and we served the best food in our fine dining. That was our goal along with integrity. We were successful. Sadly more today only care about money and don’t care about integrity anymore.
I agree with you.
Just had Gulf Coast Windows over and they did the same thing. Spoke negatively of other window companies and had a binder of reviews. Didn’t care for his sales tactics and ultimately asked him to leave.
Congratulations on surviving the window alligator!
This was SO informative.
@@HoustonWindowExperts Excellent points. Thanks so much for helping us on youtube!
Thank you for watching.
I’m very interested in working for your company 🙏🏽
Or maybe you know other companies who use the same approach you do?
Very well said! That's the purpose in our channel. Education is powerful.

Would one of these companies be Power Home remodeling?...do you think they carry a good window?
I think their window is average but their sales technique is very good. Lots of smoke and mirrors.
Smoke and mirrors? I’m not sure i follow Mr.Jeff... would you recommend ?
I’ll see how this goes.

did you buy? if so why, if not why?
Thank for your great video. I learned so much. Btw, I live in LA, would you recommend this company called Renewal by Anderson for patio sliding door?
While Andersen does make some good products I just don't approve of the sales tactics that Renewal by Andersen employs; they tend take a high-pressure approach to selling. If you do have them out I would recommend that, at the very least, you give it a couple of days after the appointment before you make a decision.
@@HoustonWindowExperts wish I would have seen this video earlier! We just purchased 23 windows from Renewal by Andersen earlier this week. The salesman did these exact same tactics you are mentioning. Our windows are original windows from 1965 and definitely needed replaced. This is a small local company so when I called I talked directly with the owner which makes me feel better their not just sending out some random salesman but I get he still wants the work.
Heck now watching another of your vids I like the Windsor window better than pella. Hopefully this guy carries them.

Allegedly the windows we have now are Anderson but they don’t have the name on em like I’ve come to know, my parents have Anderson windows and we have then in our four seasons room which was an ad on from the previous owners, so idk this house was built in 86 maybe Anderson didn’t plaster their name on stuff like they do now. I just wanna keep the stained wood interior look to match the trim we have while getting a window with protection on the outside.
