Great video!!! That is dedication to come home from work and wrench on your Jeep at 11:30 at night for close to 2 hrs. Your explaination along the way helps greatly on your build and why it was done. Your welder indeed did an excellent job!!! He did better than the welders at the factory building the new JLs !!! (You should see some of the pics posted on Wrangler forum in the JL section.) Nice work & thanks for taking the efforts to share!!!
Started doing this today at my friend's house he is a welder so he will truss and gusset my Dana 30 for me. It definitely took me longer than you because I removed the hub assembly, disks, rotors, hubs (pain in the ass!) and shafts before unbolting the axle from the frame. I also removed the tie rod because I will repaint the axle housing it is super rusty.
Nice! Pretty much the same thing I have goin except for 37’s. Wish i would have seen that truss before I did mine. I went with the JCR but I had to weld it to the center section which was much more difficult.
Not bad, I've built my D30 with pretty much everything except for a truss. Just gonna send it with 37s until it blows up and then upgrade to an aftermarket 44.
Sick jeep bro. I know this was posted a year ago just wondering how to axle and truss has held up? Thinking about 40’s for myself. Do you do anything to the rear axle?
Hi. I just trussed and gusset my Dana 30 and regeared to Yukon 4.88. Can I depend on my stock axle shafts to go wheeling? Not going to rock bounce or anything. I also have an Eaton Detroit Trutrac in the 30. Just worried how my front axle shafts will hold up. Any info would be appreciated. I'll definitely upgrade the shafts but if I put on 37's now will it hold up without abusing it.
Hey bro ! How do you like running 37s on Dana 30 with the trust. Is it sturdy or you feel it gonna break at some point. And also did you put sleeves in to it ?
Why wouldn’t your welder weld the tubes 360 in the housing… plus he totally skipped welding the truss to the cast steel housing. That’s the most critical area and the point of installing the truss.
Looks good. And for all the "know alls" that reinforced 30 will hold out for awhile. As long as he drives it decent. Half these "know alls" probably never off road or just repeating what they've seen on a forum. Even d60s bust.
You're assuming the "know it alls" are just regurgitating something they saw on the interwebs. Some people are actually speaking from experience & learned the hard way. Say what you want but a built up D30 is a ticking time bomb but of course you're going to co-sign this kids build because you're running a built D30 yourself. I had mine trussed/gussets/sleeved w/ 4.56 gears. Kept axle shafts stock because better off having that as the weak link since it's an easier trail fix. Ended up with twisted ring gear teeth just doing an off-camber hill climb at Rausch Creek and that was on that was on 35s. This kid is on 40s on 27 spline shafts. Your rigs so do what y'all want but don't encourage others to do the same, telling them it'll hold up when odds that it has a better chance of failing than holding up. If anything, you should be putting a disclaimer on this video. People are just too impatient to build a rig properly. This whole mentality of, I want to run big tires and I want to do it now but aren't willing or don't have the means to make the necessary upgrades to order to run those big tires. Instead, they build up an inferior D30 then try to justify by calling everyone in disagreement a hater. So wheeling with the Mud Trail guys makes you a know it all now?
@@beatenpath4x4fabrication71 obviously you didn't read my comment. Number one...I never said "hater" Number two...I said it will hold up as long as he doesn't beat it. I'm not saying it will last forever. But it will give you some fun. Until you're able to upgrade. Not every kid has the 8k plus to drop for axles. So get out and enjoy wheeling any way you can. If it breaks you fix. Not rocket science.
Wow...I was about to add my 2 cents being that I had a built up D30 too. Evo truss, gussets, magnum sleeve & Reid knuckles running 37" STT Pros. It was never meant to be a permanent solution, just something to get by till I saved up enough to get my ProRock but after reading the comments I feel like if I shared my experience, which unfortunately did end with negative results (mangled pinion gear shaft), I'd be labeled a "know it all" or "hater". So instead of sharing my story with the intention of people learning from my mistakes, I'll just leave people to write their own chapter in the D30 history book. The truth is there is no definitive end result. Although I've had less than desirable results I've also seen people with fully loaded high pinion D30s, trussed/gussets/sleeved w/ RCV shafts & locker, beat the living hell out of it for the entire lifespan of the axle without fail, in some notorious rock gardens that have put full float D60s out of commission. Just go out there and wheel your rig like it's nobody's business. It's no fun if you feel like you're walking on eggshells while you're wheeling. If it fails then it fails, cross that bridge when you get to it. Although I do think running 40s is definitely pushing the envelope, if you were just mallcrawling then I wouldn't have bothered to comment to begin with but you're rig, no risk no reward.
WTF happened to the Jeep community? Once upon a time it was a tight knit community, more like family. Everyone quick to help the next guy out with their build but now all I see is people roasting each other on all the forums and social media Jeep groups...over stupid shit like angry, gladiator novelty grills, light bars and deep dish 26" wheels. I'm almost embarrassed to be a Jeep owner because people are starting to associate Jeep owners to being assholes. I hate to say it but the JKU has ruined Jeep Life and I have a JKU now but none of this modern day Jeep mentality existed back when I had my TJ.
@@dwizl7213 I hate to admit it but you may be right. The JKU opened the door to whole different range of consumers. The first thing you should do before taking tires off is loosen everything you can because you don't want to be yanking on stuck bolts when the jeep is only on jack stands

Good job knocking it out solo brother, the work looks good!

What’s the roll cage y’all have ??? Looks great
I love my terraflex ball joints. Great product. My stock ball joins only lasted 50,000. The stock ball joints have plastic internals...
How much was it to get that done?
Jeep looking great keep it up
Cool Jeep man did you add sleeve to run those 40” tires
On the front of your Jeep what's that green bar that the steering bar
polished a Dana 30 😋
What size are your spacers? 1.5 or?
Nice! Pretty much the same thing I have goin except for 37’s. Wish i would have seen that truss before I did mine. I went with the JCR but I had to weld it to the center section which was much more difficult.
That's awesome man, how did you learn how to do all that by yourself?

Do you have any issue with up travel with that bridge in there? Does it get in the way of the oil pan or is it still out of the way?
did you do anything to try and keep from burning the balljoints or just go slow?
what kinda flares u rocking?
ARE YOUR FENDERS METAL OR PLASTIC TRIMMED?

What gears are in this ?
just curious why your using wheel spacers? And did you balance your wheel and tire combination?
Wouldn't it be better to get offset wheels and bother with the extra parts?
Son, you got a awesome jeep
Why does “Jeep “ come out” with some messed up components? The older Toyota axles can handle 44’s with proper gears
Great video, Jeep is looking awesome!
Hey I live in Calhoun I have a 1995 yj with a 350 turbo under the hood, do you know any one that does great jobs on transmissions ?
40's on a dana 30 is a time bomb.
By yourself!? Awesome job.

Jeep is looking mean!
Unfortunately I found out my front passenger tire is wearing unevenly because of a ball joint😦
Nice job!
I want to be your Jeep in my next life 😀
The housing is not the problem it’s the ring an pinion that is the problem all dana 30 axles.
Turned out great 👍

Not gonna lie don’t think that will hold the 40’s for a long time. Even a 44 won’t hold up for that long on 40’s
Owen West it will hold up a long time as long as he’s smart with the petal which he is

Lol no it's not even kind of strong as an aftermarket axle. Not even half.
The welds look like shit.
Them are some of the ugliest welds on that truss I have ever seen
First
Did you gut the housing before trussing?
