MAJOR setbacks on the 1948 GMC! Is this the end?

  • Hello again! This is part 2 of the 5 window conversion on our 1948 GMC pickup. In this video I'll get the inner panels installed, then test fit the glass. Once the glass was fit I ran into a major issue with the door latches and strikers. I ended up having to graft 2 strikers together to make the doors function. We also did some other stuff, like a 1977 Chevelle drive and painting the radio delete plate.

I thought I heard you arriving in my yard with the old cab in tow, but it was just the snowplow going by, so I stopped pretending I wasn't home.

As a teenager I used to annoy the crap out of the dealership parts counter guys, asking them questions and such. Eventually they told me to just 'walk around back and find someone else to bother'. So I did. 🙂Those days are long gone. I just wanna get something done.

I now have the whole 'doom and gloom' thing calibrated. It does not mean what you say, but it does have meaning. I am beginning to believe that it means that you struggled on this step. I really liked 'suffering along' with your trip to town. I especially appreciate it from the standpoint that you are almost doxxing yourself, and inviting stalkers. This could pose a problem, since I calculate that there are at least 5 Inuits in Nunavut who would be willing to make the trip down and stalk you, just to find out who would be so silly as to want to live so far south! And I am happy that the glass fits -- I was worried about that.

Your driving into town reminded me of when I went to Montreal from New Jersey where I live. I never got a chance to apologize to the bicyclists I sort of ran off the road and the buses I cut off at intersections, not to mention the shocked pedestrians. We in New Jersey have a habit of driving around like we are in a Mad Max movie all the time. I am just lucky to get out before I was put away for good. Enjoy your videos and your sense of humor. Nice job on the mods to make it a five window. I restored my 51 GMC 1/2 ton five window that is factory. As for the doors after 1950 they made the doors thicker to make the wing windows fit so doors up to 50 will not fit a cab after 50 correctly as you notice the striker plates are different too. All in your project look pretty good 👍🏻.

    • @CarterAutoRestyling

@@CarterAutoRestyling when I did my truck the doors won’t close all the way by about a 1/4”, I changed the striker plates for a 50 and still had the same result, then measured the 51 doors and it was slightly thicker than a 50 model doors, I ended up using the bear claw door hardware and adjusted it until the door fit correctly to within a 1/16” gap. At Jim Carters they say the doors for the 51’s need the striker plate to be changed if using 47-50 or 52 door striker.
