Hello everyone and welcome to a game that we've been waiting for ever since we got our first taste of it. A Kirby game placed within a 3D world, filled to the brim with imagination and intrigue. We'll be going into this incredible game playing co-op, so I hope you're ready for the madness that is the Nintendo Switch's newest title, Kirby and the Forgotten Land!!
This series will be entirely blind as Casey and Ian take on this game. I hope that you enjoy this first part and our first look at this charming game!

Well Ian, that butterfly is the same butterfly that has made appearances in the openings of most of Kirby games since return to Dreamland.

I actually love squeak squad. It’s probably not the best first Kirby game, but I just love how the plot is just “Kirby wants his cake back, and he happens to save the universe along the way”. It’s the most Kirby thing ever

I LOVED that you could upgrade your copy abilities in that game. So happy it carries over to this game too
SqSq gameplay is really solid. The plot isn't my favorite, but it's a fun game anyway

That butterfly likes to make a lot of appearances in the opening of modern Kirby games as a cute little Easter egg.
The reason people are so adamant at pointing it out this time around is because In the last mainline Kirby game, Kirby Star Allies, that butterfly threw a massive curveball at all the fans who noticed it but never really gave it much thought.

Massive Curve ball is an understatement in regards to that damn Butterfly.
For more control over your powers, turn off auto-swallow in the options menu! It lets you eat and spit out enemies you've eaten even if they have powers. You choose if you want to swallow them.
I enjoyed that level of control SO much more, so I wanted to share it in episode 1.

The Kirby series has begun fleshing out a LOT of its existing lore ever since Return to Dreamland and Triple Deluxe, and that butterfly has some weird lore significance ever since the Star Allies post-game... it's gone from "neat little reference in most of the mainline games" to an "oh god oh fuck" kinda image.

I cant tell if it was intentional or not, because I dunno how'd they'd account for the Japanese lyrics and English subtitles, but how cool that the lyrics to the opening song manage to cover almost every letter of the alphabet; they only missed x and q. So from that opening song alone you can translate basically every bit of text in the game now

Fun Fact that's not a spoiler: The devs tried REALLY hard to not make the ruins feel sad, so flowers and bright colors
Kind of remind me of Triple Deluxe where they originally wanted trees to fall at Kirby as you go along in a certain stage. But they tought that made the world seem too hostile so they made woodcutters Waddle Dee's who would cut the trees and accidentally make the tree fall toward Kirby when he pass throught the stage.
Kirby's epic yarn is cuteness overload, like you might need to go to the dentist because it's so sweet😊

Yeah the butterfly is a reference to a beta design of Meta Knight that never really saw the light of day. The beta version looked like an orange butterfly and in reference to it, HAL put the orange-red butterfly in every single opening cutscene. So everyone was excited to see it again...
It actually wasn't a beta design of Meta Knight at all. It was a beta design for a different character. People only assumed that because it was on the same page as the Meta Knight art on the book it was found in.

Kirby’s Epic yarn to me feels more relaxing than literally anything. The visual atmosphere combined with the lovingly soft music is just neat! I 100% would love to see it on the channel

Kirby lore is just really, really good and has been expanding more and more ever since Return to Dreamland. Seeing as how you both liked to piece together the lore on Hollow Knight you might want to give Kirby's mainline games a chance to piece their lore together yourselves.

What I have seen in Kirby gameplays:
1st lv: meh, Kirby is easy. You can fly.
Mid level: OK... I only have 10% of health, but maybe if I fall on this pit while holding the cone and the bomb I would unlock the last wadledee
I had no idea how much I needed a co-op series from you two. Can't wait for the rest of the game!

Actually it's canon that the Waddle Dees DO EAT! It just sorta disappears into their face.
They do draw kirby cheeked up but its just a line down the middle of the back and a hole
Hard to understand the butterfly until you play through the entirety of all kirby games. It's a deep rabbit hole. Beat this game fully for sure though.
Beating Kirby games is very relaxing, but trying to 100% them is a challenge!

also a note about kirby games: generaly when you have an ability, pausing the game will give you a guide on the button inputs that give powers (stuff like some abilities spinning the stick while holding an attack will change the move, stuff like that)
Unfortunately that isn’t in this game. Unless I didn’t check the pause screen enough.

Waddle dees were shown in the back’atcha anime that they literally just absorb stuff into their faces to eat
Kirby has SOOO MUCH LORE
The games have expanded with lore in the pause screen ever since super star ultra.
Oh and bandana waddle dee has extra dialouge after his first dialouge.
Oh and some abilites like sword have moves with guard. Press guard a to dash, then again to do a combo.
(To do waddle copter hold b while standing still, the triple spear throw is holding b while moving.
(Oh later on once you gained evolved abilites a interesting new co-op tip is given. go solo for a bit and talk to bandana dee twice after your first ability is upgraded. Its something important for co-op)

Oh well... oh and the hidden missions get revealed after you clear the stage. I recommend getting all the waddle dees you can. But get them all off camera. THEY ARE SO CUTE. ]
That butterfly played a pretty short but heavy role as a *[SPOILER EXPUNGED]* at the end of Star Allies' side mode "Guest Star ???? Allies GO!"
Ever since that reveal, I guess it wasn't so surprising that people latched on to that butterfly now.

there is no other end to kirby's digestive system, it is a pocket dimension of possibly endless volume.
There are many different Kirby games you can try if you end up loving this game that much. Star Allies is available anytime for you to pick on Switch. Kirby's Return to Dreamland is available on the Wii and the Virtual Console, and that game essentially marked the starting point of Modern Kirby as we know it nowadays. Some other Kirby games are also available on the Virtual Console. Get 'em before they are gone forever!
I do recommend you play the games in release order tho. Trust me, it will feel better as a build up for the entire series!

Kirby is intended to be a “baby” game mostly I think. People whine about it being easy but I mean, kids gotta start somewhere yeah?
Anyway, Kirby’s Epic Yarn is frankly close to my favourite Kirby game even though it lacks the inhale/copy ability that is kind of key to the Kirby series. It’s just so cute, and I loved it. And yeah, it’s not very difficult, but it’s really fun and the general designs are really cute and creative. I liked it a lot.
