Crooked believes that we need a better conversation about politics, culture, and the world around us-one that doesn’t just focus on what’s broken, but what we can do to fix it. At a time when it’s increasingly easy to feel cynical or hopeless, former Obama staffers Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, and Tommy Vietor have created a place where people can have sane conversations that inform, entertain, and inspire action. In 2017 they started Crooked with Pod Save America-a no-bullshit conversation about politics. Since then, we continue to add shows, voices, and opportunities for activism, because it’s up to all of us to do our part to build a better world. That’s it. End of mission.

Australian here. When we talk about politics we don't spend 90% of the time talking about our emotions. Why do you care so much about how everyone is feeling? Isn't politics about getting groups of people together to get stuff done? Action. Maybe this is why the US seems so stuck. You are navel gazing while your Rome is burning....

I'm not particularly politically savvy but here is my issue. I voted for Biden in the last election but he was my absolute last choice of the democratic or left candidates. I would have voted for Kamala over Biden. Bernie is always my first choice. However, as now, between Biden and trump, Biden is the only option. My problem with Biden stepping down at this point is that I don't trust the Democratic party to choose the correct replacement candidate. I am terrified and I don't know what the correct action is. I just know that I cannot handle another trump presidency.

Wouldnn't choosing a candidate without another primary be subverting the will of the people? What about the funding? THAT MONEY BELONGS TO BIDEN'S CAMPAIGN, which took years to save up. THERE IS NO WAY TO FUND A NEW CAMPAIGN IN JUST A FEW MONTHS, AS IT COSTS CLOSE TO A BILLION DOLLARS. Then, the shiny new candidate has to get onto all the state ballots. THERE IS NO TIME FOR THAT, GIVEN THE CONVENTION DOESN'T HAPPEN UNTIL AUGUST!!

Psaki is such a gifted performer - my favorite WH press secretary of all time. The entire Pod Save America crew are also so well spoken, so talented when it comes to entertaining, making us laugh, and articulating the issues. Similar to Biden's stutter, I have public speaking difficulty. My debate "performance" is a terrible indication of my true abilities. My voice would fail, and in college, prepping for debate, I had to practice way more than the other students. I was recently prescribed a common medication, as a diagnostic tool, and I experienced crazy side effects that elevated my adrenaline and it was impossible for me to stay focused, or to find the most basic words during a conversation. After I stopped taking the meds, my cognitive abilities came back. At no point did my political ideology change. I continued to put out excellent work. Is it the president's duty to entertain us with pithy one-liner insults at Trump, or to fact-check Trump's multitudes of lies on the spot, even though thousands of reporters and fact-checkers all over the planet have thus far tried and failed? The other side has thrown everything at him and his only remaining son.

That's scarily undemocratic for a party claiming to fight for democracy. I also want a better than 1 in 4 chance of winning. And there is absolutely time to set up a democratic choice among a small selection of alternatives via quickly-organized debates, polling, and perhaps even some informal caucuses. Or at the very least, switch to Kamala, who's slightly less unpopular. Anyone in power claiming there there's no such time and it would only lead to chaos is just making excuses.

I appreciate his administration's relative competence perfectly well; if I could ensure that they win over Trump, I would. Biden has said he's running, but with NATO negotiations happening there may be external reasons he's trying to put up a strong front, so she might just be staying her hand to avoid either putting her thumb on the scales if he's feeling ambivalent or weakening anyone's campaign if he doesn't do what she said he should do. If she's really the political animal everyone says she is, her statement reads to me as much more of a "Let's wait and see" than an "I don't want to get caught in the political fallout" kind of statement.

It's not about wanting someone better in office; it's about wanting someone with a halfway decent chance of winning. The most respected forecasters are currently giving Biden about a 1 in 4 shot, and even that is probably too high because the models assume based on past election data (involving candidates not in their 80s) that there's room for the candidate to shake things up, and it's hard to see Biden doing that. I agree with you that Biden in his current state would be better than Trump (if not by that much); it's just that we're probably not getting that. To be fair, we're probably not getting a Democratic win no matter what we do at this point, because the party shamefully let this go so long in the first place. But I'd rather a 35% chance over a 25% chance.

This is how i see Presideny Biden in the last debate....Have you ever been next to someone who has wronged you or your family so badly and there's all the things you want to say to show that person what they did wrong, while trying to keep your composure, then kick yourself later for all the things you didn't say....
I don't think i could stand next to a felon, who has done so much to the country i love and NOT GO BAT SHIT on his A$$... I'd forget ALL the things i wanted to CALL OUT while trying to DEFEND DEMOCRACY...
The thing is people like the Dumpster will never see the wrongs they've commited, they don't care who they throw under the bus to fulfill their PERSONAL AGENDA.... Creeps like this are the ones who challenge the legal system and play games while sliding through the loopholes...
I get why people (those barely surviving this economy) through generations of bad actors making policies that hurt the WORKING CLASS and wanting to BUCK THE SYSTEM...
This is why Biden struggled at the debate, because he is fighting for the working class who can't seem to see the damage the dumpster has done, while making so many efforts to make life for the working class better. They aren't see how the REPUBLICANS have been shoving the working class down with policies that keep hurting the working class while big companies fuck the citizens...
I sew the work that Biden has done to make life better for everyone, while forgetting we had a pandemic our lives were turned upside-down & inside out, and doing the absolute best he could to have that soft landing over economic crisis like the GREAT DEPRESSION...
My family is living on less that 40k a yr, for the last 8 yrs, we make it work, and like everyone else if we lose our paycheck we'll be hurting in a big way, but we have survived through all of this, while making due. I know Biden/Harris are working for us, it's not perfect change doesn't happen overnight...but i believe in our democracy, and the people will vote to save it.

Public pressure isn't helpful. The Dems need to talk behind the scenes and make a decision with Biden and present a unified front on whatever they decide. This back and forth with pundits and the mixed messages of the Dems is worse than the debate.

I for one think a little less backroom dealing, and a little more public dealings is needed. Only Biden can resolve this--one way or the other. His interview, his calling into Morning Joe, his spray tan...these things aren't working.

I’m only staying with this conversation because you have been very respectful in this discussion. But we need to get away from this and move forward. Talk to Biden. Ask him what he’s going to do. He will say, “Didn’t you hear me? I’m running. I’m not stepping down.”

I question the dems who are abandoning their candidate, if they would have thrown FDR out from being a candidate due to his disability, when he was elected, that would mean we would not get out of the depression or fight and win in WW2.

    • @yodimetarado1513
      @yodimetarado1513 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

FDR wasn’t dealing with cognitive issues, he was a brilliant communicator and executive. I don’t think anyone cares about a purely physical disability. The problem is that, so far, Biden hasn’t proven that he can convince the critical swing voters who are on the fence. That requires the ability to debate adequately, handle interviews with skill, and campaign like crazy while staying on message. Looking at the worrisome polling and widespread negative sentiment, I think it is fair to raise these concerns. All that matters is defeating Trump, not fealty to Biden’s hubris.

@yodimetarado1513...based on your stated criteria, Kamala's debate performance with Mike Pence was underwhelming, as is her campaigning about anything other than abortion-related topics.
It is not just up to Joe to 'convince' swing voters, or Any of the uninformed voters, about which party values our Rule of Law, Constitution and democratic freedoms vs the party/candidates who do not. That is on ALL of us in our daily lives right now. Freedom is NOT Free! We must All stand united behind our incumbent administration and fight for our futures. Those unwilling to do so should at least STOP undermining our efforts for a Biden Blue Wave in November.

I mean do you honestly think that? More elected officials asked for Trump to step down after the Access Hollywood tape in 2016 than have so far asked for Biden.
Dozens of former officials who worked under Trump have openly said he shouldn't be the nominee and stated they will vote for Biden or do a write in vote.
Where is this whataboutism coming from other than a weak attempt to deflect attention from a serious debate and story that affects both the current President of the United States and the chances of retaining the White House, Senate or reclaiming the House?
