I second the suggestion to move the bench to the end of the bed. If you leave it near the door you should put a stopper on the floor to prevent the paint on the bathroom door being marked, as it hits the edge of the table.
I saw about 10,000 light fixtures that could work in your chateau. Anna sees things and is very positive and happy but Philipp shoots her down on most things because he likes the hunt. Philipp, Anna wants a brass bamboo light. Put the bench at the foot of your bed. Great flea market. Love it!
I love how positive and happy Anna is about so many pieces. From lights to sketches to bits and bobs, she's always finding positivity. (And she doesn't get upset when Philip shoots down almost everything, lol!)
Yes! I was going to comment the same thing❤! If their heart is set on the lamp, would it fit on the wall on the other side of the bathroom door? But I think the end of the bed is best❤!
It's enjoyable to see the pieces you love and thank goodness, you're both on the same page for most of the pieces. Can't wait to see how you furnish your house. Sooo much fun! Thank you for taking us on your trip!
@@cindywiech2675 That bench cannot stay there, it's going to be in the way all day. They should have a matching (or in the same style) taller and not so wide side table between the doors, and the bench at the end of the bed.
😂 was not expecting to see that you two have such distinct flea market personalities! 😂 Anna is like a crow, attracted to all the shiny things and Philipp is super serious and hyped-focused. 😂 This was a fun adventure.
Great episode guys! So much inspiration! 💫 We would need a container waiting in a nearby harbor to ship everything back home in 😅 Would be really fun to visit the market sometime!
Put the lamp on top of the books ! Seems too short and wide in that spot. Look for a table or small chest to put there. I like the mix of MCM ( mid century modern) and the antique architecture!
I live in a small apartment but this trick works for me: I have a list of measurements that I keep in my phone of all the spaces (walls, heights, doors, windows inside the frame & to the outside of the frames) in my home. That way if I'm ever out and see a bargain I can look up my reference chart and see if the item will fit. Love that area you showed us through. I can never afford anything big from these types of spaces but they are great for inspiration. There's always a way to dupe something if you look and think long enough about it. You may end up coming up with something new and unique at the end of the process. The lamp at the end- just needs to be a bit higher. Try putting it on the books. Or find something else to elevate it. Definitely too long for that space though.
It's sooooo true. The hunt for a good deal and the doing remodels with minimal help makes those things mean so much more. It is easy to remodel and decorate when you have millions you can throw at it. I love when I can do almost as good of a job for a fraction of the price.
Some trivia. People think that the French expression 'chiner' (searching for old stuff) comes from Chine/China, but it comes from an old expression 'se courber l'échine' (bending your back) when at the time the stuff was on the pavement. People bent over, 'se courbaient l'échine' which over time became 'chiner'.
6:00 now THAT is a stunning mirror! Idk how no one noticed it. It's the perfect blend between antique and modern IMO I also want to say, since you've been discussing your decor style and you brought your Swedish friends, I think the chateau needs some "heavier" pieces (sort of the contrary of what one would do in an apartment). Furniture that feels large, solid, important -which you accompany with smaller ones. In that vein, stay away from glass tops.
The plank table is in the wrong spot, you need to place it out in the hall as you enter your room or in the other room opposite the bathroom. Maybe Benoit can cut in center and take out 4 inches and put together in the center.
Just an fyi, glass with bubbles in it is called seeded glass in the US. Love the bench but it looks too big for the space, at least in my screen. I love watching you two shop, you seem to enjoy the same things! 🩷
I’m trying to talk my husband into a trip to Paris just to go to the Paris Flea! No idea how we’ll get items back to South Africa, but that’s a later problem
That was so much fun, I agree with Philip in that it’s much more fun to find something while exploring for a good price. Have you ever heard of George Nakashima he was an American woodwork / furniture designer? His studio is in New Hope Pennsylvania. My uncle went there in the 70’s he had him design and make two tables for their living room and eventually a dining table and chairs. The table you bought for your bedroom reminds me somewhat of his work. You would go to his barn and he would have slabs of wood from a tree in different wood types, shapes and sizes. He would help with the selection and then create a piece. George passed away but his daughter still creates his style today. If you haven’t heard of him I think you would like looking at his work.
I would zone out in a market like that. Anna could do a series of abstract lino prints, or make stamps and do a scene. I made a cityscape with stamp blocks once, was quite fun and looked great. Kitting out a whole chateau is quite the challenge.
I worry the bathroom door will hit the bench and then the door will be damaged. Could the bench be on the other side of the bathroom door, right in the corner? It is a beautiful piece.
Liked the tables altho the heavy one, the other door might hit it, good idea to downsize that a bit, like the chunky to that. I did like the orange red shade, enjoy your day as I enjoyed your good shopping trip ! Ty
The bench adds a nice, organic, style to the bedroom. It would fit better at the foot of your bed. A slightly taller and slimmer chest of drawers would look great where you have the bench now. It would give some height, and a place to set the lamp, books, etc.
The bench is beautiful !! Great find. Instead of cutting it, how about if you push it towards the corner of the room, so then you will have one end touching the wall and the other one exposed to the door. Would look nice. It is such a unique piece! Love it 😍
I agree with those who thought the bench was too big for that space. Will be much nicer at the end of the bed. Funny, I have a stash of (12 x 10' long) live edge BC Pine slabs, (British Columbia). I plan to do exactly that type of bench with it. I found some modern cast Iron, rectangles legs I wanted at an auction, had to by the four, which will be the base. . Finding a treasure in unexpected places for a bargain is the biggest thrill,, I agree with you there Philipe. In the end, we all know you will both make your space beautiful. Bonne chasse au tresor.
Have you thought about consulting with a designer for s design board for each room? Then you know what guidelines to stay within when going shopping. This will keep you on track for the look of each room you desire. Will save you time and money in the long run.
Taste, availability and age are an interesting mix. As a Canadian, I've seen hundreds of these rough hewn tree trunk kind of tables (often in summer cottages or ski chalets) but it would be a rare thing in France I suspect. Taste seems to be about one's age too. I'm in my 70's and grew up in a house full of Danish teak. Although I appreciate it, I'm not drawn to it now. Give me Art Deco any day! Thanks for bringing us shopping with you.
And in Europe the generation born around or just after the war often can't stand art deco for a reason. But younger Europeans love it. Yes, the natural edge bench is a common site in Swedish interior shops these days. For the rustic trend and wabi sabi followers. In Paris I guess it's unusual. Although I wouldn't go for the same things for their space, It's great to see châtelains avoiding spindly 18th c style stuff. I don't mind actual period pieces but can't stand the reproductions and the over decorated "in the style of" marquetry, chandeliers etc. Overstuffed rooms. Nor do I understand the porcelaine obsession with folks under 65. Staffordshire figurines and stuff give me the heebeegeebees. But alot of art deco is difficult in an 18th century environment. Looks squashed to the floor. My flat is this period and I finally sold my whole art deco collection, it just looked off low down against the base board and wainscoting. Too cubist too. I love a mix of old, new and contemporary though, that's the goal, makes it personal. That and generous inviting comfortable soft furnishings. Sofas you can sink into, with support, nice fabrics. Lighting is always a challenge and should be a priority. I was tempted by all those gorgeous sconces at the markets. Next time in Paris! 🙌😍
Oh, was so hoping you bought the danish dining table. that would be SO perfect with the chairs you already have. Also agree with others here that the George Nakashima-esque bench would be perfect at the foot of your bed. great shopping trip guys, thanks for taking us along!
That store with the wall light sconces, showed many different and beautiful lights. You know that bench / wood table in your dressing room is something my husband would have chosen. I really like it and when we lived in Vancouver Canada they carried things like this. You should have seen the oval coffee table they had.
The printed art piece Anna found inspiring is actually a Japanese style of print making. I had my students make these every year and they loved it. Cutting out shapes and placing that cut out shape opposite the space it came from. A great lesson for negative and positive space. Apologies I cannot remember the name of it! Maybe someone here does. Great shopping trip...I would find it impossible to leave!
Kristina and Karl I hope you were watching!! Some beautiful things there but now you have more ideas on what to look for at a better price. Happy hunting👏👏🫶
Introducing large wood pieces will be lovely, remember its youre home. Christina and Carl have a completely different look.. you can bring colours in with large art, that you do yourself... 😊
Thanks for a lovely visit to Paris. Wow… such an amazing variety of styles. Fab! Btw….The bench needs to be at the foot of your bed. Wrong place there….. it’s for sitting on, not a table. Love the side table. Excellent buy. Looking forward to seeing a lovely big Persian rug in that room to soften it, bring warmth and to stop the echo.
I'm with Philipp. The hunt for finding what you're looking for at a great price IS the best part. Hi Philip & Anna, loved this vlog. We went to this market a couple of years ago, and like you found it very inspirational but it can be quite expensive. We love the hunt for bargains. I think the table is lovely, but not where you’ve put it, you will find somewhere better. Bonne chance 🥂

I like the bench a lot, but I agree with the people that have suggested moving it to the end of the bed. It looks crowded between the 2 doors and I would wager that the bathroom door will hit it--often. If that doesn't work, what about the space between the 2 windows?
Oh be still my heart ❤️- thanks for this trip. I remember going to a fair sized flea market there in 2010. Could it have been the same one! So many beautiful finds. I’m excited to see all what you found!! 👏👏👏
The bench is too tight in this spot. It also creates a visual line in that space that conflicts with the lines of your moldings on the wall behind it. It does not work here. If you trim the bench then the proportions of the legs to the end of the bench will be off, I would leave the bench as is and find a new location for it.
So overwhelmed with all the beautiful things. You need to visit it at least twice a month to get the hang of it. Put some books under the lamp to give the impression that the lamp is taller.
I second the suggestion to move the bench to the end of the bed. If you leave it near the door you should put a stopper on the floor to prevent the paint on the bathroom door being marked, as it hits the edge of the table.
or katty cornered to the left of the fireplace
And a foam bumper on the table edge to prevent shin damage as they walk into the room.
I came here to recommend the new bench to be at end of bed too. Help ground that space with a basket of blankets and a rug underneath.
I’m glad i wasn’t the only one 🤣🤣 i kept screaming “PUT IT AT THE END OF THE BED” lol
@@anniekingsbury6842 having a lamp that close to the floor to me seems odd but I’m not an interior designer.

She doesn't get upset because she knows that Phillip will come to see her point of view as it is, correct! 😂
Going to the "high" end shops and museums helps to curate the eye.
Again, another Great episode.
"stunning" bench/table from the flea market. I'd consider stacking some cool books under the lamp to elevate it a bit:)
Yes perfect solution!
Yes! I was going to comment the same thing❤! If their heart is set on the lamp, would it fit on the wall on the other side of the bathroom door? But I think the end of the bed is best❤!
I could not agree more. Hunting and finding exceptional things at a great price is so much fun! And it adds to the story of the piece.
It's enjoyable to see the pieces you love and thank goodness, you're both on the same page for most of the pieces. Can't wait to see how you furnish your house. Sooo much fun! Thank you for taking us on your trip!

My thoughts exactly
I think it’s too long where it is….foot of the be or somewhere else. Someone is going to hit their shin on it….
@@cindywiech2675 That bench cannot stay there, it's going to be in the way all day. They should have a matching (or in the same style) taller and not so wide side table between the doors, and the bench at the end of the bed.
The log-table needs to go in the corner to the left! Really great to see you getting excited and feeling liberated from chateau period style.
I agree, I was looking for a comment about the log table. I think too that it needs to go to the left. ❤
Amongst all the ongoing projects it is so satisfying and motivating to finish these vignettes.

I absolutely adore the Marché aux Puces St. Ouen ! I go there every visit to Paris!
Oh, another thought for that white lampshade: you can give it a tea soak to age it or dirty up the color a bit. Will also create a warmer light. 💡
What a market. Holy smokes.
Another idea: place bench in front of the fireplace mantel. The hunt makes it so much fun!!!
The table at 12:03 can easily be made by Benoit. Probably even better and a lot cheaper ;-)
I thought the same thing Ana...I could move into the display. 😄 This was fun...thank you for taking us along.

YES to the lamp on top of the books!
That’s Philip feeling nostalgic about Swiss mountain cottage style😉
I was thinking that. It's almost Schwartzwald style. Definately alpine nostalgia from his home in Northern Italy.
The blue of that room looks SO stunning against that wood! I am in love with that color now, can't wait to see the room all finished.

Go to buy lights and mirrors. Leave with tables and benches. Isn't that always the way? : )
