I'm a 42 Brazilian. The knowledge I had of India was very distorted and fragmented until a friend gifted me the Bhagavad Gita, which sparkled my interest in doing further research on India culture and tradition. I never encountered anything as beautiful, complex, vast and sophisticated. It's really a shame that it took me so long to discover all the knowledge that was and still is being produced by Indians. I live in Chennai now and it saddens me to meet Indians that are absolutely unaware of their own greatness and are still imitating the failed ways of the west.
Your story is fascinating to hear, yea if you look at modern Indian youth today, very less are properly aware of everything that India was, they simply don't care, it's due to lack of awareness and education system

An excellent assessment and very well spoken. However there is a touch of myopia in your perspective. What has Britain done for India? Well, a new way of thinking - based upon observation and evidence, called science. The industrial revolution, especially the trains that still carry millions of Indians but everything else you want in your life. Government and nationhood. A modern economy. And an alternate home for those who want what the UK offers over what India has given them. For all of this, Britain has asked for nothing except diligence and peace. I think there is an arrogance of some in their view of white people. And its nothing to do with skin colour. Its the illusion that victimhood will take them into a world they aspire to. The problem for these people is that chasing illusions will forever stop them from attaining what they aspire to. Its actually about thinking, and we have already given that to you. And you've rejected it.
@@alanharrison573 Ignorance. British didn't build railway for Indian people. They build it to move resources and raw materials. India has many industries to build clothes etc before British came. But British destroyed it and only allowed processing of raw materials which was then sent to Britain for their industries. Indian people were self sufficient in food. But British forced them to farm for opium so they can profit which led to Bengal famine. Indian people became poor only during British period. It's true that west had done rapid growth in science and industrial revolution at that time. So what? Is colonization necessary to transfer those ideas to the world. To colonize people(well massacre in North America), dehumanize them, snatch their industries to make them completely dependent on you and then force your religion, language, culture down their throats as of it is somehow related to scientific development.

As a Central European, I'm not surprised by how people from India were the first to discover or invent these things. India was like a larger version of Athens or Egypt where wisdom, philosophy, science, arts, education and everything technological was already ahead of time. Im in the US, born in the early 90's. While I do believe there needs to be a huge revelation about the Indian intellectual contributions to the world, the Indian culture is very popular throughout the US. From eating in sync with my dosha, researching ayurvedic healthcare, practicing chants to Lakshmi, Gensha and other forms of God inspired and introduced by the Indian mind, amy daily life is full of influence from the Indian culture. I recall hearing some concept of the East becoming the West and the West becoming the East, I believe we see that now as the West craves a departure from the material world into the spiritual world and the East craves the opposite. This is why I have always thought Turkey and that region had a particular oppurtunity to forge proper balance.
@@maxraines6004 Only a few of you guys are truly following it. Many people these days are not going to Churches and Hinduism seems fascinating to the west. Most of the western world's approach is capitalist in everything. They capitalise on everything. For most of them, it's not a spiritual connection but more of a business opportunity.
@@RaviKumar-df5mk I absolutely agree, I am only saying that the process seems to be beginning. These things take hundreds if not thousands of years, I would think. Like a negative and positive battery transfering their charge to one another over a long period of time. It might just be a merging of cultures and some temporary global transfer of thought, but I am hopeful we are in the midst of an awakening. The West has become so terribly obsessed with ease of life, technology and unconscious living that they are missing the human experience and so have a terrible void within that they will eventually gravitate towards exploring the spirit. As for the East, I can't say as much since I have only visited a handful of countries, but the speed at which India, South Korea and China are accelerating towards dominating the global markets shows me an increase in that energy force that drives monetary gain.

Yes, we continue to sp ak in Englísh, so that dumb people will understand. These dumb people only know English and do not know any other language. Atleast, Indians know 3/4 languages and can understand many more. It's like a baby has to be fed by a spoon!
@@ngk2163 It is a bit presumptuous to infer English speaking are dumb, when it all depends of one's own education context, and access to knowledge. English is not my mother tongue, and I speak myself 3 languages, but I wouldn't dare to imply it's a proof of higher intelligence. I was mostly *lucky* to have this opportunity. I think English is a good language to unify cultures as its structure is relatively easy to understand, even for a non English native. I completely agree. I'm Polish and have many Indian friends. I spent some time in India and I was bit shocked by the seemingly blind obsession about English language and culture. In Poland people value learning English too, but we are Polish and proud of our heritage and would consider it blasphemy to turn away from our heritage. I personally love Tamil culture and i also think Tamilians are intellectually smart and sophisticated . the way you respect your language is something every Indian should from ( my mother tongue is not even recognized as a language and that's very sad ) love from a Rajasthan ❤
@@krishnashekhawat9106 Indeed.... Appreciate Tamil culture a lot, it's still one of the most preserved and non adulterated form of ancient Indian culture
Believe me, world's two oldest languages are Tamil, about 13000 years and Sanskrit, about 11000 years. Talking as Indian, Sanskrit and Tamil and other Indian literature together must be atleast 3 times the rest of literature of the world. So, we should be proud to be Indians!
Ever since I was a child I have been amazed by India's contributions to world science, culture and history. Be it inventing the concept of zero, developing plastic sugery, steel works, chess or being the spiritual mother of the world. All I have to say is thank you India.
You are a most excellent ambassador for your country! You make me want to learn more about your country and what was achieved over the centuries, well before the west.
I absolutely agree with everything said. However, I think the western culture being aspirational as opposed to your own might not only be due to colonialization. Take Germany for example: We are (mainly) white, but our culture is a lot different from that of the USA or the UK. Most Germans don't listen to German classical composers, they much rather go to a Coldplay or Bieber concert. Most people will only learn the Waltz for their wedding and forget about it. But the latest Fortnight dance is in everyone's mind. I think nowadays it is more of an americanization than general westernization. That is exactly why I wish for the Indian people to be proud of their heritage, to celebrate it and not let it die out. We have enough americanized clones out there, we need more enrichment in cultures in general!
What a shame as I as an Indian am fascinated by German classical composers. Germany should promote her rich culture and heritage among the German youth from a tender age.
This story is sad. Indian subcontinent is home to so many beautiful and ancient cultures. So beautiful and amazing. Culture is the life of a people. It's the heart and the center of people hood.
Yes I'm American and I also agree with this. Western civilization cannot come close to Indian traditions and their depth of knowledge. European influence on the world is receding thru its decadence. Indian philosophy has enhanced my life tremendously. The western philosophy I studied made me feel shitty and aggressive. Long live Bharat
Indian philosophy of untouchability is causing harm to millions of Indians and helping only a few Brahmins. Soon this philosophy will be thrown into trash.
@@suseeln from what I've read, the caste system (which stems from untouchability) had a whole different meaning when it was mentioned in the Vedas. 'Shudra' means that every person is born with nothing in life. 'Vaishya' means that through deeds, a person becomes self-sufficient and realises the basics of survival through business. 'Kshatriya' means that the person now not only worries about themself, but also about others (as kings do) and finally, Brahmin is the one who lives not for themself, but for everyone by providing them service. Unfortunately, a certain person did not read the Vedas with understanding and took it at face value.
Dear Phalki.. Thanks for elivating India's greatness through its work as proof to eyes. I believe this is what this generation of Indians need to know now a days. I'm pretty sure not many Indians are aware of these facts because it was never discussed or resonated either in regular reading books or speeches.. It's only hid in old bookshelves.. If we show our rich history, I'm sure many Indians realise that we're not any inferior to any western advancement as we were already well advanced rich with heritage. Thanks for bringing out many true facts Phalki.. Much needed. History should be projected.
Recently started learning about Buddhism and doing meditation and of course learned so much more about Indian culture and history along the way. Love from Russia
It took moving away from India for me to appreciate my culture and heritage. I am a Goan Catholic and descend from the Saraswats. I consider myself blessed for having been born in India. We are from a great people who were spiritually advanced enough to understand that our merits and achievements did not mean that we should dominate over others. I wish for more Indians, regardless of religious background or orientation to better understand our spiritual and mystical legacy and practice yoga and meditation which are the best legacy left to us by our ancestors.
I can relate. My life has been such a blessing when I came back to India and it took me so long to realise how lucky I am. I was a life long atheist, looking only at western and foreign achievements. I discovered so much about our spiritual nature and how deep our culture goes over here. I really want to learn about our yogic practices and mysticism that our ancestors left behind. There are definitely more people like us who appreciate how rich and beautiful this place really is!

As a Canadian; Indian achievements aren't easily 'visible' to the mainstream. Having the privilege of my mentor in work life being of India descent I learnt a lot about Indian & it's accomplishments. So Canada's multiculturalism is helping to spread that understanding. Being already in the West; you don't have to "look West" and hence can "look East". Again, as a Canadian I'm watching WION. Hope that tells you enough of what we think.
That's so sweet of you. Thanks. We Indians have a lot of respect for other cultures as well. We'll love and show a lot of tolerance as long as we're not made to suffer.
@Mr Wonder our white culture was destroyed centuries ago when we embraced the poison known as Christianity. The white man's time has ran out. That is what we deserve for accepting a foriegn spiritual poison such as Christianity. I praise multiculturalism
I am from srilanka and this is same for us. Indian subcontinent and Egypt is the birthplace of everything. we need to be with our culture. and thank you for India for giving Buddhism to srilanka.
I too from Sri Lanka. British people did not just dumped Indian culture away. They did it to every single country that they invaded over time. We as Sri Lankans also have thinked the same way. Thinking that our history culture and innovations are lesser comparing to British ones. And same as you guys we have huge treasures like world's best graphite mines which has 100% pureness but the mine is under a Germen company, and we have huge percentage of indigenous plants here. But almost every single patent for each plant are in hands of westernies. I know we have been adopting many things from India Including Buddism the Hindu aryan language (our mother languages are Sanscrit, Tamil and Pali) and many other things. So please be proud of your own culture. Without thinking it's lesser than other countries. Make things to make Asians proud again. Heal the soil and it will be the greatest achievement of all time!!
I don’t know if I’m correct in thinking this, but in terms of history I feel like Indians and Sri Lanka are one people, being so geographically close. I’m Indian btw
We were taught how India was invaded, divided, looted, and enslaved as our history in our education system.... We are not acknowledged how precious our knowledge was in ancient India (Bharat)
The turmeric and Neem patents was the most crazy thing! I am so surprised that westerners registered a patent for something that Indians have been using and spreading the word about for ages!!!! Indian families have been literally using these two herbs since last many generations.
Everyone must realize the greatness of Bharat.. we must acknowledge and should be proud of the heritage we have which is more advanced.. I think these things should be in books as part of our educational system.
Hindu history is not 5000 years old but it's billions of years old and Hindusim (Sanatan Dharm) has no organizer like other man made religion bcz Sanatan Dharm (Hindusim) is natural and billions of years old when Universe is started

Pls read history books like History and culture of India people by R C Majumdar Also me being Indian, i was also fooled into thinking west is progressive. Evrything about our culture is belittled in subtle ways. School doesn't make us proud of our culture. West is just empty inside..
Personally I have no problem with western culture and West.. As I live there and people are really humble and kind too.. But what annoys me is that, West has this "boss ideology" which make them believe in their oppression over rest of the world, specially Asia... Not only India but Asians are facing infiriority complex because of the same oppression of "colonist ideology".. Asians think, English is modern but their own language is not important (not all but most) They think wearing short clothes is modernity but wearing traditional dresses or cultural dresses is orthodoxic and inferior (in no way I'm saying short clothes are not good, as a women I also wear revealing clothes... But the fact that people think length of clothes show your modernity really annoys me... I mean I can be as Modernised while wearing my cultural dress as wearing bikini or west fusions)

Awesome! You've summed it all Palki, "History will always be euro-centric, they will always be sharks stealing ideas and innovations". I am thrilled to learn of India's great breakthroughs in science and arts that are not globally documented.
India's heritage sites are underestimated. Classic example is Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple at Srirangam in Tiruchirappalli, TamilNadu. Srirangam temple is the largest functional Hindu temple in the world. It has been proposed to be declared as a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE in 2014. But it is still in the UNESCO's tentative list of sites since then, though the temple qualified with sufficient points to be declared as an World Heritage site, nothing moved further. Just a push from the central and the state governments would make it happen. But 8 years gone no action..
The more I read and watch the more I get to know about the rich and unmatched heritage and culture that we have. Being a lover of arts I get amazed to see the complexity and intricacies that our Indian art has and I can say that I am immensely proud of my heritage and the legacy of our great country which has stood the test of time. I will always embrace it and will try to help it flourish
At the same time here in the West millions of people are taking yoga classes and are interested in indian philosophy and spirituality. It seems it is in the human nature to look around what other cultures do and try to imitate. And it is a positive thing to some extent. The important is to take the useful things and avoid the harmful ones, those that cannot exist in harmony with our own culture and environment.
Yogas is not just about poses and it is certainly not mere physical in nature, it is a part of religion so it upholds spirituality as well.. What west is doing with Yoga, I'll call it "appropriation" , and it is nothing to be proud of for sure. It'll be better if west don't uses Yoga at all rather than using it like they do

For example, just look at the number of yoga mats that get sold on Amazon each year while in India we mostly don't use yoga mats for yoga. Similarly with other accessories.

Filing patent is not just meant to stop others from using something you made. It's also a recognition. India deserves to get credit for what it's people have achieved.

Indians didn't filed the patent because they didn't knew the meaning of patent.

Even the US is a melting pot of cultures especially German influnces. It cannot be helped.
What a shame as I as an Indian am fascinated by German classical composers. Germany should promote her rich culture and heritage among the German youth from a tender age.

'Kshatriya' means that the person now not only worries about themself, but also about others (as kings do) and finally, Brahmin is the one who lives not for themself, but for everyone by providing them service. Dear Phalki.. Thanks for elivating India's greatness through its work as proof to eyes. I believe this is what this generation of Indians need to know now a days.
