Bought one in 4 inch when they first came out in 81. A couple weeks ago I found a 6 inch no dash at my local shop a guy brought in to sell. It's absolutely perfect. These are the best .357 wheel guns ever.
It is great when you buy something that exceeds your expectations. The 586-1 4" I bought new is one of those also. I'd never part with it. Enjoy that hand cannon!
To keep it working properly never flick the cylinder shut, like in tv movies. It's possible to ruin the timing and damage the yoke lockup. Fine weapon.
I found my 586 awhile back and it was the only one I found like new ! Been 23 years now and it’s been one fine revolver and very accurate! I installed custom grips on mine 6 years ago and the fit is excellent!
Just bought a 581. I've only tasted contemporary S&W revolvers, but the difference in quality is night and day. It's the finest weapon I've ever handled.
So yes I definitely understand what your saying about HAVING to own something. With me personally it was a Colt Python 6” blued….. now with that said before I was able to afford the Python. I looked at a lot of revolvers since that timeframe in my life when I got the Python. I remember very clearly looking at a few 586’s and there was 1 that I looked at that I was sooooooo close to buying. But life sometimes just plays tricks on you for whatever reason I never went back to the local gun shop and actually doing the paperwork and bringing it home. Now here I am 3 years later searching videos on a vintage 586’s To go into my collection next to my Python and I also have a Ruger security six pre warning banner gun. Once I have a beautiful 70s era 586 I will then have the blue collar guys collection finished. To have all 3 of the revolvers that most blue collar guys pine over about buying in my opinion is a accomplishment. It’s not exactly a easy thing to just save all your pennies up. Then go and drop them on something I personally will not shoot very much if at all. But with that said once a guy has the big 3 in his collection. Anything else is a bit easier to obtain in the collection. Because no matter what you look at you can always say well it’s not that big a deal to pass on this because I have the big 3 at home already. Great video it really hits close to home for me personally.
I have a 586-8 6” barrel that I bought new in 2017 for just under $700. Great gun and I love shooting it. While the fit and finish is pretty good, the early dash or no dash variants are definitely a bit nicer overall.
I feel as far as revolvers the 586 w/ 6" is a true classic. My wife just got her CC permit and she really wants the snub nose aluminum frame w/ wood grips and she will load with 38 and she convinced me that is a good idea for the purse but all the new ones have that stupid lock button and everyone with a pre-lock edition wants big money so don't ever sell yours
I just got a 686 no dash 4 inch and i love it i already got rid of my 10-7 snub due to the previous owner it had some rust issues. I’m about to clean up my 686 very good condition to excellence i’m about to clean it and polish it up. Nice 586 i’m not buying no new 686 with that key lock in the way. I’m keeping my 686 no dash.
How Cool!! First I bought as well in the late 80's. Same crap grips so Hogue and a very careful, self done trigger/action, fit and polish job and she was better than friends python but many hrs later. Have shot top third three times in informal combat pistol against very expensive auto's but accuracy and consistency paid off. Got more than one back slap for bringing a wheel gun to an auto event though one guy with a SA .38 shot 5th in one event, Guy was unreal!!
It is plain Jane I suggest you replace the spring with a Wilson Combat 13 dollars is the best upgrade you'll do all so KSD grips are very good and you can change the front sight with fiber also Galco in my opinion very good holster. One more thing wheel release you can add from the KTC extended version This way you can make it a very sexy-looking gun
Had to come back so I did finally get a 6” no dash 586 just like your specimen. And I’m so happy to have it like really happy. But guess what has happened……. I learned about a revolver that’s fairly BA the 627 V Comp gosh they aren’t even lying about this hobby becoming a addiction. I thought yes I have the normal man’s big 3 it’s finally done. Then I learned about that damed V Comp. Now I have 1 issue with the V Comp the STUPID hammer lock. With that said there is absolutely nothing I can do about that besides not buying it. But that’s not gonna happen the revolver is special in my opinion. I must have it in my collection
Excellent review. Especially from what sounds like a relatively new gun owner. That gun seems te be in pristine condition especially for its age. That’s an heirloom gun that I personally would never sell. Not to state the obvious but did you tighten the screw on the stocks? If not, be sure and use a screwdriver that fits the head of the screw excsxtly so you don’t booger up the screw or stocks. Again we’ll done and congratulations.
Thanks! And I tried that. As tight as they'll go. I never ended up doing anything with it in terms of gluing or shimming. I don't take this out too often
@@Jay35738 ok wondering if I should. Have you shot lots of 357 rounds through it that were heavier than 125 grain? That’s what they were recommending to avoid but wondering if I’ll be fine
The fact that you don't carry it, at least occasionally, means you are gay. I am not judging and that is perfectly ok. But I just wanted to mention it. Because those of us that are not gay, do carry our 6" revolvers on occasion. Usually more heteronormal activities, like hunting, or just carrying it the range an affirmation statement. Just wanted to mention this for the sake of the majority of heterosexual (is that still a thing?) gun owner.
You stole it! Dont Ever sell it ! The Goncalo Alves Grips are Beautiful but a set of Black Rubber Hogue Grips with finger groves make this gun feel like an extension of your hands! I Know :- )
I bought my 586 25 years ago used for $75. Best gun deal I ever made.
That’s a heck of a deal!
Wow! 🎉
Hook me up with that kind of deal
I'll give ya $150 for lol

I bought my first gun in January, a 686 no dash with an adjustable front sight, like you, I love it👍🏻👍🏻

👍 Very nice pre lock 586! It’s hard to beat a S&W 586/686 357 magnum. I have a new 686+ 3” barrel that I carry when camping and hiking.

U can get 2 or even 3 pins inside the grip to keep the grips together in 'synch' so
they won't shift.

Beautiful revolver. You get a $1,000 easy for that from a revolver guy depending if it is an older gun!
Best to us',,,,!
Beautiful gun! I didn't even know there was a such thing as a temporary.CCW permit.
I just bought one and the shell would sometimes hard to get out maybe it's the breaking in period.

I have had mine since 1985. It is used for bullseye competition. It has over 10K rounds through it. Also have a 686. Won't sell either.
I’d like to get the performance center 686!
The best S&W to buy are those without the hillary hole. The prelock version
YUP!
great gun love it
Nice shooting gun. I’m in Ma. So I feel your pain.

How much that worth
I use snap caps in mine when I’m home !
You made a great investment there !
I have one just like that

Where the heck do you live where they make you deal with these stupid permits?

Beautiful gun. If you put the combat grips that gun is exactly like my S&W model 16-4.👍

I'm not exactly sure how many 357 have gone through the gun. It's 10 years older than I am lol. Personally I've shot around 500 357 through it.
357 magnum as sw
