Rossi 971 .357 Magnum Review
I might not have the nicest example but this is a nice piece nonetheless. a nice, light, 4 inch 357.

The first firearm I ever purchased. I hope to pass this down to my future children some day. #smithandwesson #revolver #edc

A nice, inexpensive, .22 LR pistol by our friends at Smith & Wesson. #smithandwesson #edc #plinking

After having my Taurus 856 for a year I’d like to give my thoughts on it after having it as my EDC for that long. #edc #taurus856 #taurus
I got same for 250 bucks
Does this piece when you pull your hammer back? Does it make noises?
I EDC carry 2 UltraLites. NY reload and two speed strips. Functional, reliable, and I don't feel guilty throwing to the ground like I would a Chief's Special, Detective Special, or a K6S.
I bought the same one without the hammer so it has less of a chance of getting snagged on clothing. I did change the grips to wooden grips because I have big hands and barely got 2 fingers around the stock grip (and forget about the pinky!). I like the gun a lot and paid only $299. It's reliable and I've had no issues so far.
I have sent 2 different Tore-asses back to Miami. One semi and one revolver. Service was alright. I had to pay one way shipping. I just don't trust Brazil with my Gringo life.
I know this is an old video but some BLUE loctite will fix the ejector rod right up. Common with any revolver and not a quality problem at all, I've shot several S&W's that had the ejector rod sort of wiggle itself loose. Make sure to use BLUE loctite as it's less aggressive than red loctite and hits the sweet spot between keeping it snug and still being able to work it loose. Red loctite is basically superglue and you'll never get it out again. Looks like a fine gun!
The fact that you don't carry it, at least occasionally, means you are gay. I am not judging and that is perfectly ok. But I just wanted to mention it. Because those of us that are not gay, do carry our 6" revolvers on occasion. Usually more heteronormal activities, like hunting, or just carrying it the range an affirmation statement. Just wanted to mention this for the sake of the majority of heterosexual (is that still a thing?) gun owner.
I bought one in the late 90s and sold it. Wish I would have kept it.
Had my ss 2inch for two years. Wife loves it. Add an Armalaser and reduce trigger and hammer springs and Liberty Defence ammo and she can’t miss.
Ya mines nicer than yours no damage or rubbing anywhere
How much that worth
I just got lucky today and won a 971. This one is a older model.
When Interarms out of Alexandria, VA was the importer, the quality was very very good. Now that Taurus is the importer, well, not so much.
Thanks for the review, very helpful. Just a tip, paint the front sight white before painting it orange, it will be much brighter.

really nice gun
Bought one in 4 inch when they first came out in 81. A couple weeks ago I found a 6 inch no dash at my local shop a guy brought in to sell. It's absolutely perfect. These are the best .357 wheel guns ever.
Thanks for the information
Wow that looks like a copyright infringement on the S&W 586 lol
You sound fairly young. I am fairly old. I say that to give credence to the following. I've tried 'em all. I love the 1911 but it is difficult to daily carry. 9mm? I have had and carried many. A 9 is heavy with all the rounds it holds. I kept only one to use at annual qualification because it seems all timed courses limit time in reloading. Autos are faster to reload but I've never heard of a self defense occurence when a reload was neccessary. 380s have insufficient power, no matter what we hear. My Ruger 380 is not very much use beyond 10 yards. It's just me, but I need to know i can hit a man or rouge dog or whatever at longer distance, 15 to 25 yards. A .357 i8 is shorter than 2 inches. Not much, but that bothers me. So for the last several years Ive carried a Colt Cobra, a 2"gun I found unfired at a gun show in the box. It only weighs 14 oz. and holds six. It is infinintly more powerful than a 380. After much research I learned the very best 38 ammo is the 125 grain jhp from Remington's Golden Saber. Having spent 34 years as a trooper, I know a .38 is a viable self defense weapon even in the 2" barrel. Plenty of penetration and expansion. If i can buy another handgun it will be the Taurus 856 UL with a 3" barrel. Thank you for your video. You provide more real world commonsense than the many experts on the Net. Take care, sir.
Thank you!
It is plain Jane I suggest you replace the spring with a Wilson Combat 13 dollars is the best upgrade you'll do all so KSD grips are very good and you can change the front sight with fiber also Galco in my opinion very good holster. One more thing wheel release you can add from the KTC extended version This way you can make it a very sexy-looking gun
I have that one for long time and is still my companion every day , never leave home without it .
Had one. Regret selling it. Keep it!
Como armar una ssmit y Wesson modelo 422
Colt you buy the name 🔫🇺🇸
The speedloaders are not supposed to go flat into the cylinder..what you showed is exactly how they operate.
Thanks for the review and suggestions fro ammo and holster.
The best S&W to buy are those without the hillary hole. The prelock version
YUP!
Are you going to send it in for the recall fix?
Great video! If you had to do it again, would you buy the stainless version instead?
I've been thinking about getting the 605 3 inch in stainless. So yes I'd consider it
I have this exact one
It is great when you buy something that exceeds your expectations. The 586-1 4" I bought new is one of those also. I'd never part with it. Enjoy that hand cannon!
I found one for 200 today in great shape at a pawn shop.
Awesome! I hope you enjoy it
I recently bought a Rossi RM64. It looks exactly like your 971, except for rubber grips. I took my grips off and "971" is stamped on the frame. I can't be sure that every part is the same, but my guess is that they just renamed it after the 971 and other Rossi's were recalled a few years ago. I like my RM 64 too!
Had to come back so I did finally get a 6” no dash 586 just like your specimen. And I’m so happy to have it like really happy. But guess what has happened……. I learned about a revolver that’s fairly BA the 627 V Comp gosh they aren’t even lying about this hobby becoming a addiction. I thought yes I have the normal man’s big 3 it’s finally done. Then I learned about that damed V Comp. Now I have 1 issue with the V Comp the STUPID hammer lock. With that said there is absolutely nothing I can do about that besides not buying it. But that’s not gonna happen the revolver is special in my opinion. I must have it in my collection
I live in Switzerland and I have the same Bought for 370 swiss franc
Thanks for your post. I've had my Taurus 856 for several years. It's identical to yours. This revolver has served me well. I'm carrying it today.
I have one just like that
If you think an 856 is "snappy",then OBVIOUSLY you're a soy boy who needs to eat more eggs and meat and lay off the soy milk
I carry the taurus 605. Essentially the same gun but with 5 round capacity. Great snubby!
I’ve had one of those since about 1996. Only fired about 20 rounds ever. Practically mint condition. Don’t recall what I paid for it.
the proper speed loader for the 856 is the HKS 10 or 10A for the S&W K frame or the DS or the colt detective special , both work equally well. the safariland speed loaders for the S&W k frame or the colt detective special should work as well but i have not confirmed this
Took mine home last week in Stainless. The HKS DS-A speedloaders are perfect for this 856
Nice! I've also had really good luck with HKS speedloaders. I prefer them over speed strips.
How much does it weigh?
22 oz
Just an update for the ammo: they started making them with brass casing now
I bought my first gun in January, a 686 no dash with an adjustable front sight, like you, I love it👍🏻👍🏻
this was a time when revolvers did not weigh as much as a boat anchor. 44 ounces is just too heavy. These were about 30 ounces.
Thats my EDC. I USED TO CARRY A SIG P238 SEMI AUTO....Both are small but I prefer the 856.
Just ordered one of these from Palmetto State Armory. It was too cheap to pass up.
