  • Philodendron Florida Ghost propagation - using leaf cuttings
The Philodendron Florida Ghost is a hot ticket item in the aroid plant world. With its bright leaves and relatively easy care needs it’s a great plant for people who want to take a little step up into keeping something a little more exotic. I have kept a few Florida Ghost plants and it’s green cousin the Florida Beauty and they have very similar care needs.
In this video I’ll show you how I propagate the Florida Ghost by using leaf cuttings. I’ll explain how to do the actual cut and where on the plant you can cut without causing damage. Make sure you subscribe as I will be doing regular updates to show how each cutting is getting along and whether it’s rooted or produced a new leaf!

One of my favourite plants to experiment with and I find them incredibly easy to propagate. I now have philodendron pedatum, philodendron squamiferam, P. Florida beauty and P. Florida ghost and I love them all. Time to add a Florida beauty variegated next.

I’m curious about watering? How often and how much? 🙏🏼

    Beautiful 👻…
My Florida ghost has never made a “mint” colored leaf.. All my ghost leafs start out supper white.. then as they age they slowly start turning more of that mint shade. I wonder if it’s just different genetics? Very curious? Awesome video though.. thanks so much ❤️😍🙏🏻

I understand from Kaylee Ellen's youtube channel that there is no such thing as a Florida mint plant. The leaves usually come out white then as time goes by, normally dictated by the amount of light given to the Ghost, the leaves gradually loose the variegation by first going to a mint colour and then green. One person did say they used "weaker" organic fertilisers that put out small mint leaves and the new leaves became bigger and white when they changed to "stronger" synthetic fertilisers so that could be a factor also.

Can you root from just the leaf petiole on this plant?

Hi, I'm thinking of buying a Florida Beauty, but the current pictures I received show the stems are droopy and the leaves are curled inwards rather than "perky". The new grow point looks like its not the healthiest either. This compares to an older picture of the plant where leaves, stems and the grow point seemed ok. Wondering if this is a sign of root issues (under/over watering) similar to some other plants? Also, I'm unsure of the growth pattern of the plant and wondering if the new growth point is damaged how that will affect the plant's growth?

I hope you didn’t buy it? It’s sound like a root issue. You can bring them back from that point but i wouldn’t buy one like that. If I have a damaged growth point or odd new leaf I just cut it off asap.

@@aroid_artist Hi, no didn't buy it. Couldn't justify the high price. Bought a variegated Burle Marx which I'm enjoying. Unsure if I had my white variegated Epipremnum Pinnatum when we last spoke but really enjoying that also. Its actually producing what looks like a yellow variegated growth point so hoping that comes through so I can take a cutting.
