On eBay ages ago, I bought a vintage ( around the time of WW 2 maybe) watercolor kit. It’s made of a dark brown colored cloth , that has a rough texture, with 2 small leather straps wieh buckles to hold it closed. Not a roll, more of a fold. Folded it’s not much bigger than a large paperback. The inside is a lighter colored brown cloth, that’s thinner. I think it’s called “ Colonel Gunter’s Sketchers Folding waterproof hold all “ I think it was probably made by Windsor Newton in the UK. I saw another one but when I Google it now, I can’t find that website. It has very similar pockets etc inside, except for the mesh pocket . There are little loops for an eraser, and a pencil sharpener , and spaces for a small sketchbook, pens, pencils and brushes. It came with a small black metal watercolor paintbox and a metal water bottle with the lid serving as your painting water cup. I treasure it for its age and history. It really is a marvelous little kit. And I’d love to know where it’s been and who owned it. And orginally I thought I could use it as a pattern to make a modern version. I really enjoy looking at other painted kits, both modern and vintage.
I've been watching these types of videos ALL DAY and this one is by far the most comprehensive and informative, especially for someone who is just getting started. I am just getting started and wanted a minimal but functional urban kit. Thank you so much and a special thanks for all the links!
Thank you so much! I have to say my little sketch kit still holds a special place in my heart. It goes with me most places and has just really turned out to be what I needed. I've been through so many different options over the years building kits. But whether I want to bring loads of art supplies when I travel. Or just a super basic kit to sketch at a coffee shop, this kit is always the first I grab.
Been contemplating making one of these videos because I take a GRIP of supplies when I either go to work or out to the forest. The most interesting item is your fold out cup. Very cute! I love how you also used a sanitizer bottle to spray water. I'm a sketch hound and I have lead sizes from 5.6mm all the way to 0.3mm Thank you for sharing!
If you like Noodler’s waterproof ink, might I suggest Lexington Grey? I use it in a lot of my fountain pens and prefer it to black because, well, it’s not as extreme as black.
Great video - love everything in your kit! Would love to get the Lochby tool kit pouch, but unfortunately it costs the equivalent of 80 dollars here in the Uk 😒. Lovely artwork, best wishes from the 🇬🇧
I commented before I watched the whole video and also wanted to add that all your portable solutions are so clever! That collapsible cup and flask - brilliant!
hi the waterbrush you were talking about is a broad wash brush if you want more control use the smallest water brush this is the one I use for more control and you will have better results all the best steve
Thanks for the tip! I have a variety of sizes I like to mix up and play with. Although I don't pick up the water brushes as often as I used to, but they are fantastic when I just have a few moments to sketch on location.
Aren’t they beautiful cases?! I love them. My fiancé found the company and gifted them to me. And it works beautifully for my art kit! If you get yours set up you should send me a photo of it! I love to see how different people set up their kits
What I actually did was turn my small Lochby case into a minimalist kit which lives in my purse now. Inside is a 3x5” soft cover Stillman and Birn portrait-format sketchbook. In the outside pockets (which are pretty tight) I have just a fountain pen, a Faber-Castell PerfectPencil, a compact Pentel waterbrush, and a very tiny watercolor set.
I hope you do! I now have several different versions and can't say how nice it is to just be able to grab it and run out the door when I feel like being artsy on the go
Thank you! Your kind words mean so much! I’d love to do a color palette tour... I personally love seeing what each artist chooses chooses for their palette and have thought about doing one too! I’ll put it on the list!
One of my FAVORITE parts of traveling is taking time to make art. I feel like it just makes the whole experience more vivid. And Welcome to my crazy art world!
I'm a new subbie, new to mixed media. I loved this video, as I've been looking for the right kind of travel kit and wanting to know what items other artists can't live without to kit them out. I also really appreciated that you would show an example of what the product could do, as I'm not yet familiar with all that's out there and what their itchiness can be. I would make one small loving suggestion and that is to slow down while you are speaking just a touch. these 65 year old ears don't pick up everything they hear!☺ I will watch this again with my laptop speaker and take notes! thank you so much for sharing your kits. and you are quite good at your sketches and painting! 💗
If you dont like the pentel water brush, try other brands. I’ve had terrible luck with some water brush brands . Some seem to just pour the water out too much, others were much too dry. You need to find a brand that you like and that works for you.
I would love to try some new brands! If you have any recommendations let me know. Sometimes when traveling it's just so much easier than pulling everything out
I really enjoyed this video - your paintings are so nice! I also have the maron brown coloured Lamy pen, it's my favourite! I really like the mini travel kit you have with the smaller notebook and case. I'm definitely going to check that out! 😊
Thank you so much! Art is therapy for me and I enjoy sharing it with other so much! And I am also OBSESSED with that lamy! Let me know how you like the mini kit! It’s such a great lightweight option
Thank you very much :) One question in regards of the LAMY fountain pens. I always had bad luck with ink and fountain pans since they refuse to work with me after while. It seems like the ink is blocking the flow. Does LAMY work better or is it the recommend ink you are using?
I would definitely say they do start stopping up after a while. I just take them apart and clean them then. From what I understand that's pretty standard to have to clean them out every so often.

The collapsible shot glasses is GENIUS!! I ordered 4 on Amazon for $13

This is the best watercolor kit video ever!!!!!!! Thank you! That kit is amazing. Also the foldable shot glass.
You have collected superb little things to make it a great kit.
I am on a never ending hunt to make my art kit better! It’s constantly changing. Thank you for your kind words! Means a lot
This is a nice travel kit, it looks like it holds a lot of supplies. Well done! :)
Wow. Through the Grace of God. How lovely. Magical when u showed us your sketchbooks- YES very theraputic. Thankyou.
I'm so happy you enjoyed it! Sketchbooks are definitely a form of therapy for me!

I have both of those Lochby cases. I use the big one for my fountain pens, and I never thought to use it for my walkabout sketch kit. Thanks!

I would love to see what colors are in your smaller palette. Thank you!
I will FOR SURE be doing a video on my smaller palette color choices soon! 🙌
I look forward to it! 🙂
Did you ever do that video?
Love this video. Feels like I’m hanging out with an art friend.
Oh good!!!! I love that you’re getting that vibe! That’s exactly what I love to portray
do you have a video with a list of the beautiful colours you’ve chosen for your palette?
Hi. Love your video and your color choices. Could you please do a video on the colors in your travel pallet? 😊
Thank you! Your kind words mean so much! I’d love to do a color palette tour... I personally love seeing what each artist chooses chooses for their palette and have thought about doing one too! I’ll put it on the list!
Great kit! Just got back from a trip with the family and my sketch and paint kit always goes with me. Just subscribed

Hello! Thanks for sharing this useful video. May I ask which brand is your brush wash little tin? X

Thank you!
I love water brushes filled with ink, but they always block up for me. ☹️
I could see where that happens! I’ve just started using them myself for ink
I'm in love with 12:50 ! 🥺💛
Thank you! The painting is inspired by the tv show Spanish Princess!
