Love that you are adding Power Rankings this year! Quick question, why not use the Numbers app instead of Pages next time? That way, you make the spreadsheet with Rank 1 to 32 in its own column and you don't have to keep re-typing them as you re-shuffle teams. Also, you could set each other column to be the different month and it would be kind of cool to see how teams moved up and down throughout the year.

For next month I think you would better if you start with 32 and work your way up. Also doing something with ordering the team logos instead of just typing out the team names would be visually more appealing.
Dallas at 4 seems high honestly, and I say that as a Stars fan. Tanev really held our defense together last year, and with him gone we are probably slightly worse than we STARTED last season at. I think 5-7 range is more fitting, but we'll see if our young players take an extra step this year.

As the Lightning fan here, I HAVE to approve. I appreciate the fact that Jesse appreciates what the Bolts have done. As far as TEAM BUILDING goes...
I could see Vancouver dropping a lot, not really because of the players lost/added, but I feel during the regular season they had barely any big injuries to their key players and I could see that luck running out.

Lack of scoring was the difference in the Canucks vs Preds series. The Preds just added a TON of scoring. I would move the Predators up to 5
I think New Jersey is higher, they addressed their goaltending AND their defensive depth and if they get a healthy Jack Hughes and Dougie, I have them challenging the rangers and canes to win the metro.
You also forgot that Florida lost Montour... so they actually lost a lot off their Stanley Cup roster considering they lost two of their top five defencemen (the only ones on their power play) plus they also lost forwards who played significant minutes. Edmonton lost their seventh defenceman and a guy who they upgraded in their forward group. Edmonton lost the Stanley Cup by one goal in game seven and got better in free agency. Florida got worse. Regardless they just won the cup the top two should be flipped with Edmonton at number one and in fact, the betting lines support that.
I gotta put respect on the champs for the first power rankings. We’ll see in August

Considering there were only a few days between the cup final and free agency, as an Oiler fan I can't begrudge the Panthers getting some cookies for winning which is so difficult to do. The Oilers also need to move some cap (or put Kane on LTIR) in order to sign their two RFAs. There is still some maneuvering to be done by both teams before we have a clear picture of what training camp rosters look like.
Edmonton also got lucky to face Silovs instead of Demko, and no Boeser in Game 7. Add Demko, and despite the Oilers firepower, Demko would have won four. The matchup this year also has the Canucks trading to be much faster and even tougher.
Can the Oilers survive 4 different monsters hitting them every time they gain the zone?
Can the Oilers D survive being hit and agitated by Joshua, Heinen, Sherwood, Miller, Hoglander, Bleuger, DeBrusk?
They can thank the hockey gods that Demko was out...and now, the much younger Canucks have the playoff experience and their stars just hitting their peak years.
The Oilers don't need to try comparing themselves to Florida... they need to beat Vancouver.

Vegas has that solid ass D corps still and their centre depth is pretty nasty with Eichs, Hertl, Karlsson but I think they got worse this off-season losing marchy. Heartbeat guy. I still think they’ll be competitive but I see them as less of a threat than last year.

This list isnt going to age well. 😂. Not that its a bad list but these are so hard to predict.
Not to be that guy I know your a leafs fan but Boston got better than they were last year and they’ll have a bunch of cap again next year, with the cap going up Marchand probably going to take less, Bostons by far ahead of the jets, Vegas, Tampa, and Carolina, hate them if ya want Boston at worst 6 lol

I can live with this ranking, Toronto probably isn’t better than LA, NYI, NJD, DET ... well a lot of teams, come playoff time.
Also, Utah has a very solid basis offensively to build upon, they signed a ton of defensemen and got a pretty decent goaler in Ingram and still got 23 million to spend, they are probably the most unpredictable of the bunch unless they end up extremely conservative with what’s left of their cap space.
The Flyers added nobody and Hart isn’t coming back, i wouldn’t be shocked seeing them crash in the bottom of the rankings like they should of done earlier logically last season, let’s not forget how they ended up choking their playoff spot.
I like how the bottom remains basically the same teams, it just shows how rebuilding is a very long and painful process, none of these teams signed anything of significance to justify moving up much. I can already hear Montreal fans arguing by starting every phrase with : if everyone was healthy ...
The Canadiens sure do tend to beat records related to injuries when they need to be bottom 5 in the league, multiple years in a row and while being in a rebuild.
If everyone keeps forgetting about /doubting the Sabres, maybe they will actually surprise break the playoff streak?
Putting the red wings below the pens and flyers who they were better than last year and all 3 basically stayed arguably equal is a choice.

I really like what tampa did this offseason tbh. Yeah you can make the argument that they did stamkos dirty, but the contract in nashville is likely going to age horribly. He has scored half of his points on the PP over the last few seasons, and that PP runs entirely through Kucherov. Yes stamkos still has that cannon of a shot, but he gets so many looks because teams are fixated on one of the most dangerous players in the world. He also played on the top line with Point and Kuch and was a little bit of an anchor on that line in the defensive side of the puck. I understand he's the lingest tenured bolt and a great guy, but this has been kucherov hedman and vasys team over the last 5 years. Hell they won a cup with him only playing 1 game throughout the run.

Just because they won the cup doesn't mean they're the same team.
They lost a lot of key players
What key players did they lose? Montour who underperformed compared to last year, and who got to keep his spot because of how he played last year? The rest were depth players that had equivalent players subbed in and out all year. Vlady was a rental that is replaceable. The key players are the top 6 forwards, the the fins on the third line, and the top 4 d men. None of them are gone besides Montour the rest of the players that left skated less than 5 mins a night.
That is 4 forwards and 2 defensemen 1 goalie people that actually played games. People are acting like the capitan left and there are no goalies etc.

Mans sleeping on Mrazek he was actually really good last year just had one of the worst teams in the league in front of him still finished with .907% and 3.05 gaa . Defense has gotten bolstered this offseason and Broissoit was really good this season with a .927% and 2.00 GAA one of the best goaltending statistics from last season in 27 games
Sorry Jesse, but as a Canes fan, they will easily be the worst of the teams you listed in that same group. No higher than 13th at this point
Yeah, I think with so many new faces it could be kind of messy to start the season. I'm looking forward to the new guys, though

The biggest problem with Colorado, is they have two 1st line LW's that are MIA. We don't have Landeskog, and we don't have Nichushkin. If you add them to the depth chart, the team is stacked. We just cant count on either one to be present. And with their cap hits taking up space (I know LTIR and stuff, but that doesn't help us sign FA's on July1) we have almost 15% of our cap lost and unrecoverable. It's like the situation the wild are in with their buyouts, but without buying anyone out. Sad really, bc with both of them healthy we are far and away the best in the west.

Eh, you can ballpark Montreal anywhere from 20 to 30 since they are essentially completely relying on improvement from within. If everyone takes a step, sure, they could be the best of the bad Atlantic teams. But with only small improvements they could easily be in the mix for a top 3 pick.
The canucks need petterson and debrusk to have insane chemistry and their coaching staff of adam foote and Gonchar need to whip the bottom D pairing into shape but see how it goes
I love our amazing 3rd line but I wouldn't mind seeing them break it up a bit...

yep. The Oilers need to worry about Vancouver. If EP40 and DeBrusk mesh and Demko is healthy... I'm positive the Canucks will be as good as Edmonton - younger plus a whole lot tougher.
The caps suck so much less than I thought they would at this point. A few years ago if you told me Backstrom would be (basically) retired, Oshie would be holding on by a string, we'd retain salary to dump Kuznetsov, Kuemper wouldn't pan out, and Ovie would go cold I would have expected a basement dwelling team whose only excitement was eyeing number 1 draft picks. We aren't good, but by god we aren't terrible!

I’d put us ahead of Florida because of the fact we only lost by a game, and added two significant forwards and kept everyone, and Florida got worse
I believe Canucks are better than what they showed. Demko was out since game 1 in round 1. Also, they didn't have their best goal scorer in Brock Boeser for game 7 in round 2. That being said it is what it is. Hopefully, they get to prove it this upcoming season.
Boeser was in game 6 ,what happened? Honestly how he has the Canucks at 5 is crazy because there are 9 teams that are clearly way better in every way. Also the Demko excuse is getting old ,look what happened to better goalies in the playoffs so you can't say if he was in from game one they would have done better.

You tend to be very results-over-process your assessment of teams and players, which conflicts with your Tampa ranking:
- Tampa finished 4th in ATL last year
- Lost 1st round in 5 games
- Lost Stamkos & Sergachev
- Added Guetzel and McD
At BEST, that's a lateral move for a 4th place in ATL team
If you watched the games you would know the answer to that question. Offense has never been Tampas problem. Defense was and 5v5 play. They got better at both. Tampa retooled their whole roster. And they added a highly touted rookie who could play this year in Geekie. Stamkos was a defensive liability at a -21 with 23 takeaways. Jake was a +25 and had 33 takeaways. Pkus Jake is better 5v5.
Mac is way better than Serge on defense. Offensively no. Defending? Yes. Tampa is a much better team on paper than last year.

I think you needed to explain more to these people why Florida is still number 1. They are out here acting like the top 9 forwards, the whole defensive group, and all the goalies left.
Brandon Montour is the only hard loss and he was still replacable, and has been replaced. The rest were depth players that were already replaced with better players lol.
No one is saying that. But be realistic the oilers and panthers were equal or if you want since panthers won they have a microscopic 1 goal edge. But they got weaker. Oilers got better. That’s why they should be 2. No one said they got WAY weaker. But they did get slightly weaker. And oilers got clearly improved.
It's crazy to me how you can place Nashville or Tampa ahead of Carolina just because they added two old guys in their lineup. is Nashville a better team than they were 3 months ago? Sure... Is Tampa a better team today then they were 3 months ago? Doubtful... but Carolina has been in the top 3 for the last 4 years. I agree their playoff runs are subpar, but to place Nashville before them is ridiculous

Could easily argue Edmonton over Florida now. Edmonton added 2 top 6 forwards and Florida lost some guys. Rest of the list looks good, maybe the Red Wings are a bit low?
Nashville made great adds but they werent a truly worthy playoff team before. They were a .500 team aside from their streak. The new look Preds are an aging roster. They arent getting a home seed. Honestly, switch Nashville and New Jersey
Just to counter slightly, our issue in the early season was getting used to a VERY different system and slow start. Once we got kicked by Dallas we shaped up. By the time we hit the playoffs we were still solid but our biggest issue was still scoring. Adding two 40 goal players should ideally help with that. Especially with stamkos on paper helping boost our PP massively. So yes while our record could've been better, and while we considerably overperformed... we caught our footing and clearly our thirst for a cup is pushing us for these 3 to 4 years despite age. Obviously we need to see the actual play of course... but I'm pretty positive looking forward. Not to mention our 2 first round drafts next draft and asky and stastney and lhierux in the wings. Again... practically? We'll see. But on paper? Looks good to me
Tampa at 11 is laughable - take a look at their projected 3rd and 4th lines. Lucky to crack the to 20.

I've watched so-called "power rankings" videos from Shannon The Hockey Guy and Larry's House of Hockey and look forward to watching more than just the first few seconds of the latest SDPN so-called "power rankings" video.
I think they will be a really good team this year, but have a steep decline.

Florida lost Montour which is a pretty substantial loss
It's not that bad if you watched them through the season. People act like they didn't have 3 more lines worth of d men subbing in and out all season that performed identically to everyone except forsling. Same thing with the 4th line of forwards, 6 guys rotating in and out on that line with almost no change. They aren't like other teams that fall off after one or two lines, they don't fall off until you get to their echl team.
Canucks at 5 LOOOL??? At best this year they are 10th ,no way they are better then the Bruins or Canes the Avs the VGN . Maybe you meant Canucks 15?? That would make sense

don't watch Canucks games eh? One of the best goalies in the league, a tough, fast and deep forward core, and a HUGE punishing defense lead by the current Norris winner (who won by a landslide) and the current Coach of the Year.
If they had Demko, they'd have probably faced off with Florida in the Final.

@@scrawnyrapierguy ...chances are I was watching 'Nucks games before you were born, but experience aside, I would for them to return some glory back to Vancouver when the city was jumping with passion during the Linden/Bure era...or the revival era of the Sedin twins! And hate to say it, but the Sedin twins era was the last ''great'' hockey era for Vancouver - if you watched the games you'd see how dead the energy was this past season (especially after the all-star break). We definitely agree Demko is a force, but then again so are 2/3 of the goalies once they make the playoffs. What Vancouver needs is some consistency and help up front in order to be a genuine contender and create a new era for Vancouver to get passionate again.
