Bonjour , i am french and sorry for my bad english. i'm happy you enjoy this ceremony. i have to provide some details. Marie Antoinette's prison was" la prison du temple" who does not exist anymore. the monument you see is the " conciergerie" where many nobles were judged and condemned because it was the court of justice of the french revolution and yes it was the last prison and the courthouse where she was sentenced to death like many nobles Then lady Gaga sings a song from the famous "Moulin rouge "and the also famous "meneuse de revue" Zizi Jeanmaire (review leader ) but she's unfortunately actually... ...dead so thanks very much to Lady Gaga. to interpret in her place. The two last olympic champions who lit the olympic cauldron are french and the old man in the wheelchair is the oldest french olympic champion (1948) still alive., he is now 100 years old. this ceremony wanted to bring together all athletes, whatever their country ,distability or age thanck you for your nice video et bienvenue en France
We do have a few spots in France to surf Biarritz,Hossegor… but as we have beautiful islands such as Tahiti,Moorea,Mehta,Bora bora…we might as well take advantage of it. Great work.
Appreciate the recap no way i was gonna through all of it lol. Only caught the last 30 minutes really. As for Gaga she did give a full answer why she was there, and short answer is that she's been fangirling for the nation of France since she was a kid.
Well great to hear you. One part you did not talk about is the Celine Dion song ! It was so cool to hear from her again on the floor of the Eiffel Tower! It was really cool !
Lady gaga just wanted to share her love for France and the country’s culture. She expressed her gratitude for the opportunity and celebrated the French singer Zizi Jeanmaire. It was a challenge for her to sing in French and she must have rehearsed a lot for it but she is a talented artist so I think she gave a great performance.
lady gaga sang a lot of cabaret songs ( in french) in her past and cabaret was a huge parts of paris in the 1920' between the 2 world wars tahiti had their ow n opening ceremony with tradiionnal pacific islands dances and different island chiefs present...bit sad it was not broadcasted at the same time.
I saw news interviews with locals who went to the opening ceremony. The overall consensus was that you couldn't see anything unless you were in the 1st row. No one was very happy about the experience.
@@ltbrooklynny Yes but the people who went and say that don't pay anithing, I can say that because I was one of them. But they payable places were on tribune. I was invited with my family as parisians and yes we just see fireworks with Ayanakamura and the olympic torch in the sky. But it was a special atmosphere and I will never forget this moment. Sorry for my bad english 😁
I can't believe that a Canadian failed to mention Celine Dion's Olympic performance Here in France it was by far what most people talked about first, especially due to the recent documentary and her health problems
Nice video, I just would like to precise that it is Tahiti, this is a french territory as you said, so if it is not 'metropolitan' France, it is very much French and a part of France :)
The games are actually happening in 6 cities or so, apart from Paris, and Tahiti. And the torch went through every single french regions & territories during the 68 days of travel from Athens to Paris
I’m not against with the boat parade concept of the Paris Olympics which is a cool idea But I should find the Opening Ceremony Concept are more Hedonistic Party-centric than really goes to something more social sensitivity and friendship oriented which Olympics is all about Even Tokyo Olympics and Beijing Winter Olympics display more genuine concept of social sensitivity and genuine friendship rather than as a hedonistic party
Putting them on boats obviously made the it take longer, but was still cool I was googling the while time - the song Lady Gaga did was from the 60s, a French singer performed it on the ed Sullivan show Gojira was probably the coolest thing to happen at an opening since the archer in Barcelona, or the drummers in Bejing Celine Dion singing is a big deal for her fans cause she has a very scary disease , like Parkinson's Its in Paris, viewers should expect to see some gay shit - you can turn the channel

As a Frenchman I unfortunately have to agree with you. An almost totally woke show, often shocking and vulgar, that just does not reflect the huge majority of French people, only the Parisian psychotic "elite". At least the American Lady Gaga and the Canadian Céline Dion saved the opening and the closing of the ceremony.

As a fan of metal, loved Gojira kicking ass.

Gojira is such an amazing band. For them (a French metal band) to be a part of this and make it the most epic part... Bravo!
I had never heard of them before this and they just got a new fan!
I thought the show was incredible best opening ever for a games
That Gojira song was so amazing and full of history. Jesse please get Adam to do a history corner on that performance either in an episode or VIP.
Oooh that might be really fun!

Would not have watched but holy fucking hell Gojira playing made me change my mind

Yeah it was so cool!
We have nice surf spots near Biarritz, but from what I heard the competition is taking place where the first ever tube ride happened.

Oh wow. Yeah it seemed like a great tv event, but a poorly designed for in person spectators
And yet, tickets were extremely expensive, up to €2,500. That's a ripoff for those who couldn't see anything

Hi ! nice but you got something wrong about LadyGaga she’s born in the US. You got her mixed with Celine Dion born in Canada.

The opening ceremony was waaaay toooooo long. Like the NHL Draft. Cut in half! Ridiculous
Yup! Definitely didn’t need to be 4 hours
Is russia in it ?
I might be wrong but I believe individual Russian athletes can compete but Russia can’t compete in team sports.

It was great right?
Why would it be necessary to talk about a few minutes of poor even arguable taste like most of the happenings on that peculiar bridge.
It was bizarre and creepy. The worst opening ceremonies ever.
