I have a nc700s 2013, bought a YSS rear shock as taking pillions on it with the standard shock is bottoming out, really bad. The new shock really changed the bike, very happy with it.
This video gave me the confidence to change my rear shock on my 2012 nc700x today. I'm at 46,000 U.S. miles. On a recent ride it started feeling strange on bumpy roads. I'm assuming the damper gave out. Too grimy to tell if it was leaking. So I bought what looked to me a gently used oem shock off ebay. $60 U.S. (I'm on a real strict budget) Pulling up side panel etc to get at the top bolt is very similar to the 750. My test ride was positive. Thanks.
It's official now ... you bought a new rear suspension for your motorcycle it's like the wedding proposal ring.💍💘🥰😍 Nice upgrade I am looking forward for part 2
You left us hanging for part 2!. It definitely looks a lot less crashy now. Goodjob as ever! Good to see you had the sense to write the figures down unlike some idiots😂
Ha! I had practice when doing the job on Wendy’s bike. But I’m still high on the “idiot” scale. Can’t count the number of edits I did for that “live” intro!
Have fitted the YSS rear shock & the front fork upgrade kit ( PD valves etc ) Must say what a difference to the handling of the bike. Top job . Have a good day.
Great video - thanks for sharing. Looking forward to your ride report! I actually took the day off work today to replace the shocks and struts in my car. This video was some nice motivation for my work today while having my morning coffee.
It's very interesting to see the suspension in action and to jump to the conclusions! Looking forward for part 2! Nice video and good working job! Greetings 👍
Yes. Jumping on the bike doesn’t show how it will react on the road. Until I test ride I won’t be sure. But from past experience on other bikes it feels promising.
Hi. First post for me on your channel. Fantastic content. I wish I had just a speck of your skills 😁. Love it when you make your own solutions or improvements. I just bought a 2021 dct. The original owner did a lot of good mods and one of them is a remote preload adjuster similar to the one you are installing on this video. This is the fiest time I don’t have to use a c spanner on my bike, so i was wondering if you could help me out please. The adjuster doesn’t click like others i’ve seen do. You measure the amount of preload with a 1 to 5 scale etched or printed on it. So my question is: it it normal that as you add preload it becomes considerably harder to turn the adjustment knob? It goes easy down to 2-2.5, but then it gets very hard and it stops between 3.5 and 4. I hope that made sense 😅. Thank you very much
Yes. It gets harder to turn as you increase preload. It’s easier to adjust with the bike on the centre stand to take the weight off the shock. The adjustment is just a screw that forces oil out of the reservoir into the top of the shock to push the spring down. So in makes sense that it gets harder as you screw it in. Click? The “clicks” on mine are almost inaudible. I just could turns.
@@AfricaTwin-Stuff i sprayed wd40 onto the shock where it slides up and down and to the screw on the remote adjuster. Waited 30 minutes and it now works perfectly. I get the full range of adjustment, can feel the famous clicks as i turn and even though it gets a bit harder as i compress the spring, it’s manageable and what i would have expected it to be like. Thank you 🙏
This has really hit home as I was considering what to do about that awful rear shock. Really enjoyed the video with my morning cuppa. Thanks very much!
Recently orderer my rear shock from YSS (not the one you're mounting here). I think I willl mount it by myself. Your voice transmits me calm and peace. When I am mounting something always some stuff go wrong or I dont have the correct tools and I have to use anything and starting to blaspheme. The nc700x is an excellent bike with a seat directly from hell and a stock rear shock from Lego. I think it' cannot handle the weight of the bike and a passenger near 1,80m and beyond 100kg for some years.
I learned a good lesson some decades ago. When things don't work out when working on your bike or car or under the sink and you feel like cursing, just say: "Be nice to me..." and hopefully you'll manage to stay calm.
Many thanks for fun and usefull video! Qould you please consider my problem. I lowered the NC 750X and now I would like to upgrade the rear chock. I.e. I have a related tech question: Can the after market rear shock -suspension, like YSS MZ456-305TR-34, be fitted on a lowered NC 750, or does the bike has to be brought back to its factory height (by returning the shorter, orginal dog-link bones)? Also, pls do recommend a budget rear shock upgrade. Thank you!
Good. So, YSS MZ 456 305 TRL 34, bit shorter than the OEM, will not bring the bike further down, as advised by some on FB NC750 forum? Also, do you recomend this or YSS MZ 506 310 TRL 43, they appear similar, the first appear 7mm shorter han the OEM while the second is the same or 2mm lower that the OEM. Or should I go for a third one? Why I am concerned- i am a bigbloke and my current OEM rear suspension is very bad, yet if my already lowered bike, for 25mm, goes further down due to a wrong choice of aftermarket shock I may end up having not usable bike. Thanks! @@AfricaTwin-Stuff
On my CTX, I used the height adjustable NC750x shock (on the lowest height). I also got a new spring for it. Much much better rear shock than stock, and a lot cheaper than other options.

I moved to the Wilbers shock and love it - such a different bike! Okay, the old Honda one was completely shot - but I test rode a new NC750X last year and I'm sure my NC700X feels better on the road with the Wilbers than the new bike with Honda stock.
If you have a moment I'd love to get your thoughts on the YSS shock in regards to touring. I've personally never done any touring however I recently loaded my NC with camping stuff and was concerned about the sag and different handling characteristics during my initial test ride. Since you seem to do a lot of touring I'd love to know if you find that the YSS upgrade makes a significant difference with the added weight of all your gear. The standard spring is marked as 150-150. However I have since gone back to the harder spring (don’t know what it’s rating is as I didn’t write it down). Interesting project. Look forward for the improvement in handling. It may take a while for the shock to fully break-in. How much did you pay for the goodies?
For a beginner wanting a cheap and workable video camera to stick on my helmet, for my own viewing - could you recommend me something? I want to ride a few weeks camping but I don't have a laptop. I wondered if I should take lots of SD cards. Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheap = poor results, when it comes to cameras. I use GoPro. The 7 upward has good stabilisation so if you film while riding you don’t get car sick watching the results. Thanks for the very informative video. I've ordered a Nitron rear shock for my 2021 NC, and I was wondering how to get at the top bolt of the shock. Tyres? Currently it’s Pirelli Scorpion Trail 2. These are basically road tyres with a slightly stronger carcass to cope with the occasional gravel road. Not very long wearing but good grip.
It’s best to find a supplier who knows the NC and can deliver a shock that is not only the right length but also the right spring tension (for you) and damping for the NC.
Excellent job. But I'm wondering why you've been riding for 60k on stock unimpressive suspension and instead of replacing it you replaced exhaust first?)) IMO, a cartridge for 500$ is much better than valves +springs for 300$ because you can change rebound and compression on the fly. As we all know comp preload used only for sag setup but damping helps to fine tune the fork according to a surface quality.

It’s best to find a supplier who knows the NC and can deliver a shock that is not only the right length but also the right spring tension (for you) and damping for the NC.
Olá, boa noite!
Acredito que seria melhor o regulador de pressão fixado no chassi e não na balança.
Mesmo assim é um ótimo vídeo!
Excellent job. But I'm wondering why you've been riding for 60k on stock unimpressive suspension and instead of replacing it you replaced exhaust first?))
IMO, a cartridge for 500$ is much better than valves +springs for 300$ because you can change rebound and compression on the fly. As we all know comp preload used only for sag setup but damping helps to fine tune the fork according to a surface quality.
are there fulle cartridges available for the nc750x forks? I thought the design of these meant the best one could do was emulators.
Hi, do you still have the old one? I have a 2012 NC700X and am looking to replace my leaky shock. Are you open to selling it if it isn’t broken?
Sorry. I’m keeping the old one.
"Firm but compliant".
Still talking about Norman then?
Ha! Of course 🤣
another super video.
How do I personal message you about this suspension set-up. Thinking of getting same for my bike.
Can’t do it via TH-cam.
You can find me on Facebook if you are a member of the NC group.
@@AfricaTwin-Stuff I'm a bit old school. How do I do it on TH-cam. Don't really use Facebook.
You can’t pm on TH-cam. It’s not an option.
@@AfricaTwin-Stuff ok, do you mind if I just put my questions here?
Go right ahead
Çok teşekkürler 🙏🙏🙏🙏🖐️👍
Has anybody done a Ohlins ?
Hello every one,i have a nc750 2016 with 55000 kms but the engine started vibrating at 3000 rpm aprox and it seems that no one knows how to fix that o whar is doing it,i need help!!!
Unfortunately diagnosing this problem is impossible without actually being on and with the bike.
It could be many things from worn tires, wheel bearings, chain and sprockets, loose engine mounts .... the list goes on.
@@AfricaTwin-Stuff That was my first thought, loose engine mounts. Check all bolts, also on your frame.
Great job Mate
I was supposed to get my NC750x dct today but Honda has had a cyber attack and they can’t release my bike😡 when I do jobs on it I don’t have an uncle Bob does that matter? 😀
Another great vid by my fellow NCer , btw have you had your eyes tested recently?? Attractive assistant !!!
Tony Bigt - ha! It’s relative. Norm is more attractive than me!
Hmm. Yes it does matter you don’t have an Uncle Bob. Cancel your order!
the hardest part about suspension is to find a reasonably priced one that's better than stock.
Unfortunately and option worth buying is going to be expensive.
nice vedio , i like it.
❤❤❤
Bravo bravissimo
I can't weight for the sequal. Hehe.
Ha. Funny man.
filthy haha you should see mine
Hi Do you have an email account that i can contact you on. I'm a new rider an have so many questions about this bike
Your best option is to join the Facebook group “Honda NC750X Owners group”. Then post your questions.
Not a sound expert either, I can't hear you??
Norman really isn't that attractive. Good video.
Yes, sarcasm can be very cruel.
