In this video, I discuss why modern AAA games are bad and why I personally would rather play older games or indie titles.

Guys just a heads up, I meant 2k22 not 2k21
2020 was a crazy blur and I forget that they skipped a year
Realized watching this that the RARE great AAA title now is increasingly praised because of how rare it is, not because the games are getting that much better. Dire state.
We need to make a game about the boys and how cool their lives are. It may be the best open world game of all time.
Great video. How this is low view is beyond bizarre. Good editing and valid points. You got my sub.
Thank you 💯☝️
This felt like a video from a big, experienced channel. I clicked on it without seeing the views or subs, watched it through, nodding along, laughing, and then I saw the views.
Good job man!
Wow, thank you!
Yo I liked this video, I know you aren't doing YT all out but I like videos like this tbh. I wished I could do stuff like it.
Thank you for that! I didn’t start with videos like this but eventually I learned to just do what I like instead of what I think is popular
yo 200 views. Great content man. Halfway through the video I thought this was 100k+ Video
Man I wish! I’m just thankful for the ones that I do have tbh 🫡
Most low view videos nowadays are AI bot channels, accidentally clicked on this and almost clicked off because of that. This didn't disappoint though, take my subscribe!
Thank you for sticking around! I am no bot, just a man and a dream to make TH-cam videos all the time
@@timbotalkin Sorry, forgot to specify, I could tell you were legit once I started watching, otherwise I would have left. Having your face in the video helps =D
Great vid! You have my subscription. Looking forward to more like this
Welcome aboard!
I mostly agree, but I think the open world and large scale big budget was done really well in FF7 rebirth. Because it was so massively varied, there were tons of mini games, and different side quests that had weird and unique or brilliant narratives. And it all felt very optional, but still engaging, like it added to the world/character building.
I think it could be better tho, like have a few less towers ( like why are there towers everywhere) and have the collection be faster. And instead have more of the photo quest, I like exploring and discovering a secret and beautiful place.
On the other hand side quests in FF16 was boring.
So I think there is a right and a wrong way to do large scale.
I think the remake tried to do too much. They should have just stuck with what worked with the original. Also not getting the full story in one game made me mad lmao
@@timbotalkin Hard disagree.
Good work man! You've got my subscribe. Dig your format, viewpoint and how you present it. So many channels much larger than you that are nowhere near as good. One quick piece of feedback for you: your voice audio level is a bit too low. Might think about bumping that up a touch. Keep it up bro!
I will take that into consideration. I need to learn how my video editor compresses my audio
I don't know how I found you and I don't know why I clicked but I stayed because I love you charisma, I love the effort and the time you take to explain things. I'm looking forward to more videos, you got a subscriber here.
First off welcome to the club!
Second, thank you soooooo much for that. Comments like this are why I do this and if I can make a part of someone’s day entertained I feel that I made it.
Again, thank you 😊
Older classic games are better than modern games coming out.
Agreed!
I can only think of two games worth while this year from AAA. Totk and Spiderman 2. And look no live service just great games. I haven’t played Spiderman yet do to lack of ps5
Same with the PS5 thing, I think that there is no reason to shell out money on it when there are barely any good games coming out that are new and not remakes or remasters
Gameplay vs Graphics = Spot On.
Thank you king 😤
And no, Starfield bores the hell out me... And yet, I'm still trying to love it. Just can't.
Do it for both of us.
70 views is insane for such quality
Thank you! I try to make the best I can, my computer wants to die every time lol
Great video! Keep going. I hope you make your dreams come true!
Thank you!
Thats why I play Deep Rock Galactic, ROCK AND STONE BROTHER
I need to play that, I already am a dwarven fan because of DnD and MTG (and I would be crazy if I didn’t admit I was a Torbjorn main in OW1)
@@timbotalkin Lots of content, great devs, great community, no micro-transactions. And maybe start playing as the engineer then (he has turrets)
100th like, lets gooooooo!!!!
THANK YOU FOR THAT!!!! You are what keeps the channel going
cyberpunk 2077 is now playable and has an immersive story and world at the current state its in
When I hear “is now playable” that means that there was something so wrong with it that people could not play it.
Bugs are one thing, being unplayable is another imo
There was no WWE2K21. The alpha build exists but there’s no 21. They skipped a year.
That’s my bad, I meant 2k22 (for some reason all of 2020 is a blur can’t remember why)
From the bad referees to the repetitive AI decisions, I just gave up
I also do not believe the hype that 2k24 is any better.
I got FF7 when it was free for ps plus. never had an issue with it, they may have patched some but idk.
I just had a bad experience because I enjoyed the original so much
its definitely also the corporatization of culture. There is rarely a truly new IP anymore that becomes a classic
And when there is it either skyrockets or flops
Ex: Anthem
2k21 never existed? Did you mean battlegrounds or 2k22?
Yeah I mean 2k22
( for some reason 2020 was all a blur to me and I cannot remember why lol )
As a developer for 15 years, I DO NOT UNDERSTAND bugs in relationship to deadlines. Putting down a solid piece of code is always vastly faster in the long run than half-arse bug hive. The bugs you are talking about is either a team lead or middle management fail.
I am not sure what you mean. Are you implying that bugs are a problem and that it something they can easily fix and choose to not do it.
Code quality. High quality code prevents most of the bugs and overall it is far faster.
When talks about that 😍
There’s the game called Teardown which is like Minecraft but only destroying and 100x smaller blocks or “voxels” all with varying properties. It’s a bad game but a good example of how worlds could be 100% interactive and all space has properties.
I have been wanting that game!!
and what we learned over these years ? buy the game with sales or wait 1-2 years and get them from a 3rd party keysite (eneba, instant gaming etc) instead of giving 70 bucks for the BRAND NEW QUADRUPLE AAAA game from ubisoft which is a disaster but u realy want to play (as an example) just wait some months for the price drops and about the ffvii remaster it was fine by me i liked it alot and the ps1 version :)
EXACTLY 👍
But also Ubisoft is just not good in general so I tend to stay away lol
pretty good video
Thank you!
AAA Games are dead since 2012. The First Video i saw about AAA failing was in 2012. And then i watched other Videos about this topic in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and now in 2024. When will this stop?
In my opinion, I feel that somewhere in 2017 is when AAA games really took a turn. Before that you still had new IPs coming out that were fresh and willing to take risks. Now it feels that all we get are remakes and remasters (I am specifically calling out Last of Us with that)
No wonder you have so little free time. Stop buying games. They’re the same as Atari and NES days where the cover looks amazing and sparks imagination, only to have the crappiest let down ever but still have to enjoy it because you invested and now stuck in this reality.
This was over the last few years, I have really made the connection in the last couple of them. I don’t know if you saw but in the video I flashed my new game boy emulator that has all the classics on it. I have been playing this and enjoying the games I loved plus the ones I never got to play.
But I did buy Baldurs Gate 3 hehehe
@@timbotalkinThat’s true. Trying to clone the magic of the OG titles is tough. I have a Steam Deck OLED packed woth ROMs and don’t play any of them. Was nice to see them working and accessible but it’s like watching the same movie, not as interesting as when being a kid.
Everyone stfu Timbo just released another vid
You are amazing
Thank you 😘
nice to see even normies finally starting to get it.
I don’t know if I should be offended or appreciative

Also, I saw Sonic on the video, so I wanted to recommend a game. I'm not a Sonic fan, like at all, but a single indie developer made a better Sonic game (10x better at least) than Sega could ever even dream of making. It's called Spark the Electric Jester 3. It's a mix of Sonic and Devil May Cry and it's one of the best experiences I've had in gaming. Don't worry about the other Spark games though, just play Spark 3. >:D
And with this game recommendation, either play it, or don't. I don't want to hear you say "I'll put it in my backlog". We don't do that here :D
sea of thieves? L take tbh
I just didn’t care for the multiplayer aspect of that game, but loved the hell out of the being a pirate on the ocean. Give me an RPG like this where I can assemble a crew and level up my mates and what not I would be in.
