      Not props - they were quantum-locked entities since you were looking at them. They are sneaky though - if you see something dark and shadowy briefly out the corner of your eye - THEN LOOK ALL AROUND YOU - QUICKLY! AND WHATEVER YOU DO - DON'T BLINK!

    One little bit of visual storytelling I loved from doctor who comes from a Christmas Carol, when Kazran puts Abigail in her Cryo pod knowing that it will be the last time he has to, you see him unravels his bowtie as he tells the doctor that they should hold off on next Christmas, it was subtle in how it shows that Kazran is disconnecting from the doctor and turn into the grouchy old Scrooge we meet at the beginning.

    I had noticed that the Vinvochi had their faces digitally coloured because the usual make-up giveaways weren’t present (the skin colour stopping at the eyes and mouth) but I’d just assumed that was deliberate to make them look more alien. Frankly they should do it more often, it looked better than just make-up.

    A classic moment in the Hartnell story "The Chase". When the TARDIS crew was pursued thru time by Daleks, always slightly ahead of the Daleks. When they arrive in the "haunted house" , there was one scene where a Daleks was in the background, BEFORE the Daleks arrived.

  • @georgeharvey4226
    @georgeharvey4226 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    You missed quite a big one. In Season 26's Battlefield, there's a scene inside the TARDIS where the lights are turned down. The reason for this was because one of the walls had already been demolished. The low lighting was used to disguise the fact they were using a painted curtain as a substitute. It's also why there were no other scenes shot inside the TARDIS for the rest of the season.

    There was quite a frooferau about Ace wearing Blue Peter badges, as it was seen as very offsides to appropriate someone else's badge and claim it as their own. All controversy was quashed when it was revealed that the badges were Sophie Aldred's own, including the special award for designing a rocket launcher.

    The Weeping Angels are, to this day, the only tv villain that has genuinely terrified me. After seeing Blink for the first time, I remember being in the car with my fiance's parents and yelping involuntarily as we passed a local cemetery with an angel statue on one of the headstones. I think I about gave his dad a heart attack and was more than a little embarrassed explaining myself since it was far from the first time we had passed it. Oh well.

    • @PenneySounds
      @PenneySounds ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The best part about them is that they demonstrate how jump scares ought to be done. Most movies and shows that try to be "scary" focus on jump scares, but they often forget about the lead-up to the jump scare, and always forget about following up on the jump scare. It's always just things are normal, and then "BOO!", and then the scary moment is over.
      But if you watch the moment when Larry is staring at the Angel while Sally looks for an exit, You initially get the normal scare when the Angel is first in the room with them, but then there's this intense moment of tension as he's forced to stay and look at the thing. And then there's that moment that zooms in on his eyes and you can see him shaking and sweating, and for the briefest instant he glances away and then back, and there is a MASSIVE jump scare as the angel is now inches from his face and staring him directly in the eyes. But unlike most jump scares, the initial startling moment is followed by INTENSE, SUSTAINED FEAR as he is forced to stare at this unmoving monster. The terror doesn't stop once the moment of surprise ends. It keeps going. I've never seen this done this well anywhere else.

    • @konaaukai5541
      @konaaukai5541 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PenneySounds, your assessment rings true. I don't consider more common methods of jump scares to even be legitimate scares. Being truly scared is a sustained feeling while a jump scare is more startling. The angels, though, are something so much more to me, at least in this outing. Eventually, they became a sad parody of themselves, but here, they still hold up. They're still intense. They're still scary.

    • @PenneySounds
      @PenneySounds ปีที่แล้ว

      @@konaaukai5541 I don't think they become bad in later appearances. In a way they are one-upped by their second appearance. "Blink" says that you can't close your eyes and you can't look away, and the only thing you can do to keep yourself safe is to look at them. But their next appearance says that you can't do that either, because looking at them can make you become one of them.
      But it is true that they have started to become just another of the show's regular enemies, like the Daleks or Cybermen.

    • @konaaukai5541
      @konaaukai5541 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PenneySounds, in this, I think we will have to agree to disagree. Looking at them turning you into one is odd (it's not well-explained if memory serves, though I confess it has been a while) even though it solves the problem of how they "reproduce." They are also able to look at themselves from the second outing onward which renders the ending of this episode utterly irrelevant and pointless when you look at it in the context of the full series. Because that second outing was awesome, despite the issues it raised, it didn't really hurt them at all even though the cerebral element of "fighting" them was dissolved. It was when they moved on camera that they lost their scare factor completely for me and I couldn't take them seriously after that. I could barely buy them as a legitimate threat. That may just be me, though.
      Now that you mention it, the Daleks aren't scary or intimidating anymore. They still have the potential to be if the writers commit to their genocide-centric philosophy, but that's too grim a prospect for a series that tries to be optimistic and hopeful more often than not. The Cybermen can be scary if you really consider their psychology, but that's about all they have going for them. I mostly just shrug them off. At least the space dust bins still look cool xD

    It would be great to chronicle all her iterations up to her latest one, which could explain the timeline proper with her involvement and marriage to the Dr.

    It's an accepted but not publicised fact that due to the nature of The Doctor, writers try and incorporate elements of episodes previously recorded and aired and the whole design, wardrobe team etc go along with this. Some people have called these recording, script and design elements as 'Easter Eggs' but they are not - they are really the method the whole production team use to slowly mesh together everything recorded and broadcast (and not yet recorded or broadcast) to fully do justice to The Doctor! The larger the recorded back catalogue of The Doctor's life and work affecting Earth the more reflections back we will see. Some writers have 'allegedly' deliberately tried to write The Doctor into a 'time and space relative corner'.

    I like surprises in different places in Doctor Who a few old favourites, there are still some that have to be seen to be lieved. In the second doctor his just regenerated and taking a shower? And there's a small clip in the tardis where I am sure we see two doctor's when David turns into Matt we see David of set slightly it might be a double of David, with all the special effects around you can see a sharp of someone behind Matt Smith not in focus, but there a arm in the background?
    And Tom, as the doctor often walking through a set and breaking something or picking something up only to put in his pockets a moment later reaching into same pockets and saying how about a jelly baby? And the doctors scarf often nocks over a prop, or sometimes Tom flicks it and it gets suck in a bit of the set.
    And the Tardis one or more times it often switches colours after landing this is a slightly odd moment in the earlier doctor's series in black and white it never mattered well almost never until when shooting in a darkened room a propman made a mistake with painting one side light colours a brighter blue it then in future shoots turn oneside dark blue and light blue not really a problem for black and white film? But over days of shooting, some noticed on film a two toned tardis, grey and black. Years later, in Jon's time the tardis doors opened outwards in an episode or two. In his first appearance, the doors opened inwards and outwards, and the tardis had a backdoor it opened by accident, and Jon sometimes discovered ways to make an entrance and exit from the tardis either funny or dramatic, he even broke one of doors.
    There's loads of outtakes of the doctors in whoinverse I wonder if there is anything coming on these in the future on the ipayer and TH-cam?

    It's a shame Anthony Ainley passed away before he could reprise the role of the Master in his re-introduction.
    And I still think it would have been better for "Missy" to have been The Rani instead of The Master. It fits so much better, since last time we saw her, she had a T-Rex in her Tardis, and she was the master bio-engineer and turning dead bodies into Cybermen would have been right up her alley.

    there is absolutely no reason to use actors to play weeping angels in anything but one or two very specific instances, all that money wasted on paying actors and digital effects to do what actual statues would have done _better_ for the one off cost of production and minor maintenance cost. just think about what else they could have done with those funds?

    Sadly I stopped being entertained once Jodie became the Doctor. It wasn't because of her either but more so that the stories were dumb. I think I made it through most of her first season, then found myself not looking forward to the next episodes. A pity, she would have been a great Doctor under RTD

    • @SenileOtaku
      @SenileOtaku ปีที่แล้ว

      *Maybe*, but I recall Jodie Whittaker saying she didn't even bother learning about the past Doctors, as if it was beneath her as a "talented thespian". Matt Smith may not have been very familiar with the show before he took the role, but once he was cast he went through and watched a lot of old episodes to familiarize himself with where the character had come from. And many times you could see him channeling the past actors, and you could really believe he was a young face on a very old soul. Jodie never convinced me she was anything but a very irritating show off.

    In all reality, 'Dont Blink' was one of the greatest episodes, its hard to make 1 that actually has nothing to do with the Doctor and stil make it worth watching, the actors of that ep did a great job.. I know it's not the only 1 but its the 1 that has the least amount to do with the Doctor but the most to do with a storyline that continues throughout
