As a psychologist who worked in a federal prison for many years, I agree with and appreciate your advice. Prisons have a their own culture. Respecting others is important. It was my observation, however, that it’s not always obvious to newcomers things they do that might be disrespectful.
I read the article about you and your colleagues that appeared in " The New York Times" a few days ago. It confirmed my impression of you when I first discovered your videos some months ago: you are a good and decent man who advocates for personal responsibility as the means to achieve happiness. I had a customer in my taxi a couple of days ago. He was stressed out. His mother is dying of pancreatic cancer, and he had recently gotten out of prison and trying to put his life back together. At the end of the trip I wished him well and recommended your videos to him. Have you read Tom Wolfe's satirical novel, "A Man in Full"? One of the main characters, actually a very decent man, gets thrown into prison under somewhat dubious circumstances, and there he discovers the Stoic philosopher, Epictetus whose writings provide him solace as he endured his ordeal. Your videos make me think of Epictetus.
I would also add, don’t take anything from people you don’t know well. There is always an ulterior motive and they’re never good. Keep your head down, be invisible, and do your time quietly. The quieter you are, the less drama you’ll have and the faster it will go by.
