I'll admit the Tesla spikes are pretty weak in the beginning but once they level up, they're amazing in the arena

This game is a mastapeece. One of my favorite 3D platformers ever and easily my favorite in the franchise. Not to mention the game still looks drop dead gorgeous even almost a decade later.

Only 7 years later, I discovered the fuckin' dynamo ball thingy can charge.
SO MANY TIMES I SPAMMED LIL BALLS, instead of just making one big ball.
    *noice.*

If you thought Nefarious was funny here, then you absolutely have to play Up Your Arsenal. His backstory is sincerely the funniest thing I've ever seen in the entire series. No joke. That game was probably the funniest R&C game in general, but if you’re looking for the same depth of narrative the Future series had to offer you're not going to find it there.
One thing I didn't like about the Future series was that it seemed to get shorter and shorter as it went on (save 4 Quest 4 Booty). After Going Commando, the longest Ratchet game by far, they seemed to shave off a few planets with every release. Other than that, the Future series was pretty damn good.

+ExoParadigmGamer Oh don't worry, I've seen what they had to offer in 1 and I'm DEFINITELY not expecting grande literature from the originals. Although, seeing Dr. Nefarious in a game where the story is taken less seriously is something I REALLY want to see.

The ability to move while your wrench was thrown was introduced in going commando. What this introduced was the ability to throw it without stopping for a minute while it left your hand.

    • @DeMomcalypseLive
      @DeMomcalypseLive 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Brian Stell The wrench throwing is much for fluid in this game than in any other game. In previous games, you still needed to stop in place for a second to throw rhe wrench. Even if you input the commands as fast as possible, you are still stopping in place for a split second to throw the wrench, even if you're moving while doing it. In this game, you just throw the wrench while moving with no pause in between

This just makes me feel even more regret for purchasing the 2016 reboot for Ratchet & Clank. It was really disappointing and it changed Ratchet's and Clank's relationship, dumbing it down for the movie release (which was horribly dull, imo). The fun, sense of wonder and humor was all gone and was replaced by stereotypes, cheesy and unmemorable voice acting with hilariously bad dialogue scenes. The last good game out of the franchise is still "A Crack In Time" (Into The Nexus felt way too short and lazy)

For me this has even more nostalgia this was the Very first Ratchet and Clank title I ever played and I loved it granted I had trouble with it due to me not figuring out how combat works and going Gung-ho with my wrench and using my weapons but once I mastered I loved it even more My fondest memories are just zipping around the world in the Hoverboots or Navigating the Breegus Sector in Aphelion.

Honestly, in terms of the arenas, it was more so the exact opposite for me. I found the Battleplex very easy even with the boss fights(save for the Overkill challenge), while the Imperial Fight Festival was the more challenging one. I especially remember the Zorthan fight being a pain in the butt.

Defiantly the best of the series in terms of narrative/atmosphere really playing up the space adventure idea but i felt that the selection of weapons combined with some with some of the more lack luster ones (dynamo of death) made me wish the game had more more cool weapons.

At roughly around the 3-minute mark, you detail that "Throwing the wrench in the older games made you stay in place for a bit" which is not true. Only the first title does that and then while the second doesn't it's a bit better done in UYA (R&C 3) within the regard of mechanical feel because it's way more instantaneous. Anyway, this would be an improvement over Tools of Destruction if everything wasn't too strong to use the wrench against but here I am saying this exact sentence soooo. It's a bit better than Tools was within the regard of bullet sponges, but things still take way too long to die while in comparison to the original trilogy (Deadlocked stands out within this regard because that is where bullet sponges became A BIG problem).
At around 10 minutes and 30 seconds, you start to mention the difficulty options and I just want to point out that the original trilogy had a system that looked at how well you were doing and became easier or harder depending on how much you died and I personally preferred that system since it doesn't always baby you or doesn't always treat you like you were tough shit.

Something DOES feel a little different about the way Ratchet moves. I'm not sure how to describe it. I think the camera's a bit different, too. I also really like how The Groovitron and Mr. Zurkon actually level up this time, which gave me way more incentive to use them. I gotta say though that the Clank sections are the ones I dreaded the most across the entire series. Puzzles where you have to spend so much time standing around waiting and retreading the same terrain over and over and over again is not what I want in a game where the majority is spent speeding around in hoverboots and blasting things to smithereens with intense firepower. Just a complete clash of mindsets. Was pretty bummed that David Bergeaud didn't compose for this one, as he made the music for every game in the series until Quest for Booty. The music's not anywhere near as memorable in this one. Heck, the most memorable track for this game went unused, and was put in a bunch of trailers instead. Always throught for sure it was supposed to be for the Krell Canyon battle against the Agorian Riders, but it sadly wasn't, as awesome and fitting as it would be. Other minor nitpicks would include that the level up sequence isn't nearly as satisfying without the flashes of energy you see in titles like Tools of Destruction or Going Commando. Plus, the game doesn't get nearly as enthusiastic about collecting things as previous games. Like, in Tools of Destruction, it'll be all like "You got 5 Negotiator missiles!" Whereas A Crack in Time will simply say "Got 5 Negotiator Missiles." That ain't fun. On a better note, has anyone else noticed how the whole plot of this game is effectively Sonic '06 done much, much better? Hero out to rescue a character, multiple villains, even the main hero being killed right in front of the person he sought to rescue, only for the death to be undone in one energy-based way or another.

When you mention how this blows Tools of Destruction out of the water with telling a narrative, that’s why, I’d bet, no one really talks much about ToD. I’ll admit the narrative here is better but this is far closer to what the original trilogy was like than ToD, which was a major step down in that front. I think that’s even part of why the world is so much less interesting. Here, we’re right back at it. I will spend far longer than necessary in every level either gawking at the surroundings or jumping everywhere I possibly can (because you can actually do that again!-unlike ToD)

Your opinion is indeed colo(u)red. You started with a Crack in Time. Sorry m8. You never had to suffer through Secret Agent Clank or deal with broken SIXAXIS controllers or become fully aware of how bad the 2016 remake is. I envy you. That game laid my trophy case of Platinums, Omega Ryno IV VX and shrink-wrapped PS2 games to absolute shame and embarrassment.
Don't call Tesla Spikes useless - You haven't learned the trick with the upgraded version of them that makes the arena and 10 million bolts ultra cheese in challenge mode. (:
