    I honestly saw this game as a send off to the future series and ps3. It probably wasn't meant to be a high budget adventure like tools of destruction and a crank in time. Also the museam level was heartwarming.

    • @yojoehojo4291

      The reason why it's bothersome is that the game's engine is coded to have things work within the regard of framerate rather than game speed, this was to make it so that when slowdown started to happen the game would still feel relatively the same but the end result is that slowdown sticks around much longer and the over-all mechanical feel takes a big hit. This is true for all of the Ratchet and Clank Future titles and the reimagination.

    • @ShindlerReal

      @@yojoehojo4291 what?

    • @yojoehojo4291
      @yojoehojo4291 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ShindlerReal So, for the future titles they made an actual game engine which made half the work they had to do easier but in turn they went the easy route for a lot of game-feel details. Before they did this they used Maya, a 3D Modeling software, as a means to render and essentially be a basic "engine" and because of the fact that they were constantly working in a tool for making models and animations a lot of shit just got heavy tweaks until it was just right.

    • @yojoehojo4291
      @yojoehojo4291 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ShindlerReal One of the MAJOR differences between the engine and them just using Maya is that they coded the engine to have the animations play based on the fps that it was outputting to account for slowdown while the Maya code was always running at a consistent speed called "gamespeed" which is different to the FPS. That's why slowdown might be more noticeable in the original series, since it's always going to tax the hardware the same amount. Their efforts were well-intentioned but it makes the actual gameplay and game-feel suffer more due to it.

    • @ShindlerReal
      @ShindlerReal 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yojoehojo4291 I don't get it. Every game that isn't an old NES game, have consistent speed that has nothing to do with frame drops. Low framerate makes it run choppier, but there's no slow down. And frame drops in original R&C trilogy don't make it run slower. Maybe you mean something else though.

    While at its core, Nexus is a solid enjoyable game, I do think it falls short from the other main series games by being quite short, having a standard plot, and a jagged framerate (which normally wouldn't bother me, but it does here).

  • @MrSyntaxman

    Hi, I recently started watching your videos and loved this series of reviews. I hope that one day you'll review those spin-off games and the PS4 game. Considering how important frame rates are to you, I will warn you; the frame rate in the PS Vita version of Full Frontal Assault is the worst in the entire series. It NEEDS to be played to fully understand how bad it is. It's even worse considering it was delayed several months. Luckily people who bought it on PS3 (where it was a cross-buy game) got Ratchet: Deadlocked on PS3 for free as an apology for the delay. Anyways, love your work, keep it up!

      Digging up a dead horse, but the original version of this game DID deal with that. Ratchet was going to find the Lombaxes and discover they had been enslaved by the Nethers. There was concept art, even some modeling done for various Lombax subraces and their hierarchy. It all just got dumped though and I have no idea why despite hunting for it.

    I haven't finished this game just yet, but I completely agree with you on the framerate. It puts the game below the previous PS3 games (except for Quest for Booty maybe). The sluggish framerate coupled with unfamilar controls really did disappoint me, and though I've played a bit of the movie game and still enjoy it, I do wish Insomniac would wake up and realise why developers strived for 60FPS to begin with; responsive gameplay.
    I am still invested if only for the new gravity mechanics, but I'm really glad someone else understands the importance of high framerates for action-based games like this.

    I gotta say... this game had my FAVORITE Clank sections. I'd love playing an entire game with that style.
    The visuals, ooohh... Not entirely sure what happened here. Everything looks... TOO cartoony. However, I think it got even more chibi in those spin-offs, though. So weird how A Crack in Time's Insomniac Museum had this section where a developer talked about how important the silhouettes were to express personality and uniqueness, and then they change this much, ESPECIALLY Captain Qwark, who is only in this game by obligation. Heck, same thing with The Plumber. This game is... pretty awkward.

    Nice review, but i have to disagree with you about hoverboots and the way you change it using R2 for me is the best improvement from "crack in time" , were you need to stop then change to hooverboots, but in ITN you can do it and use your weapons in the middle of battle at the same time, specially in the arena on the hardest difficulty, the same way how you felt when they changed the way you throw your wrench from TOD.

    • @KingKlonoa
      @KingKlonoa  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Hassan Ghanim I can understand what you mean, but locking the function to one button is just more awkward. I never really had a desire to shoot and use the hoverboots at the same time since I was always moving way too fast, and I would imagine trying to shoot enemies while you zoom across the map would be hell to manage.
      Additionally, many of the hoverboot challenges, specifically in the arena, were set-up poorly; too many tight turns, the likes of which these new hoverboots simply aren't built for. The hoverboots in A Crack in Time allowed you to adjust your movement as you pleased, and THEN press the button to accelerate if you needed to. It give you ample time to turn and adjust yourself, but this game ONLY has the acceleration option; as a result, they feel like they got nerfed to hell.
      There was never anything wrong with how the hoverboots worked in A Crack in Time. I loved the obstacle courses they set-up, and I enjoyed how it made traversing levels a tiny bit faster. Not only does it feel less polished in this installment, but they simply didn't utilize the hoverboots outside of launch pads. While I can definitely understand the minor annoyance of having to put on the hoverboots, and not being able to use them while in the heat of battle, they ultimately worked a lot better in A Crack in Time, and really they felt like second nature. Into the Nexus just felt like it missed the point.
