Thanks so much for this review Sebs 😊. Love Robert Palmer ♥. He died too young and is sorely missed. 'Simply Irresistible' is another fab track but my favourite is 'Aeroplane'. It's sensual and beautiful, I listen to it often to relax 💕. He's quite the chameleon, edgy and raunchy at times, smooth as Sade at others. Music defines us all somehow, who we were, who we are now and who we will become. I can't imagine life without music and I'll always be sad Robert Palmer wasn't around long enough to record more music. I still miss him, and Freddy Mercury, and George Michael, and David Bowie. Thank goodness their music lives on.
This lovely man he was in our local band when he was 15 , he’s a Yorkshire lad , his parents had a B and B in Scarborough, , hugely talented , another huge star gone too soon .
Robert Palmer was LEGEND! Check out his work with Power Station: "Some Like It Hot" "Get It On (Bang A Gong)" (a T. Rex cover) Solo: "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On" "Simply Irresistible" "Mercy Mercy Me" (a Marvin Gaye cover) And no, he wasn't objectifying women in this video. The whole thing was tongue-in-cheek. This was the MTV days. (I'm a woman.)
This was the 80's...advent of the SUPERMODEL concept...Turlington, Evangelista, Naiomi...this was a riff on them too...beautiful, vacant, looking, robotic yet sensual female objects...but you can't look away.
I have to defend Robert Palmer here. You're looking at him through your eyes as a younger man and 2024 notions of style. Robert Palmer was always good-looking, almost debonair-like smooth style, and always one of the best dressed rock artists of his time. Put some respect on his name. Most men could only hope to look as good as he did.
I saw a detailed interview about the making of that video and it was pretty funny. The models were supposed to act like they were playing but they were uncomfortable and terrible at it so they kept trying to do retakes. In between breaks they would have food and drinks, alcoholic mostly and they kept trying again. Finally they all got so drunk they would fall down. It was only then they loosened up and swayed with the music and did a take that was acceptable. As you watch the video its fun to see their faces and know they are really bombed and were falling down. But that is what gives the video its charm. They look detached and like they don't care because at that moment they really didn't care.
Seb, get stuck in the 80’s…This is the great music of Dance Clubs before Techno killed it all. All gathered, made new friends through dancing together, singing our favorite songs…It was a blast and a loving time. Attire: Pants were worn at the Natural Waste. You’ll see many suits being worn in the 80’s.
The reason for his pants being so high - is that dress pants are supposed to be worn at the waist, rather than off the hip like casual pants/khakis/jeans. Normally you wouldn't notice because there would be a jacket covering it up.
Written by the late Robert Palmer. Produced by the late Bernard Edwards. RIP to both. Edwards was in Chic. He and Nile Rodgers wrote Good Times, We Are Family for other musicians. About 10 years after Addicted to Love was released, Rodgers found Edwards dead 😢 in a Tokyo hotel room. This was 1 day after their concert. Cause was pneumonia. RIP. All-star 🌟 band. Chaka Khan on backing vocals. Jeff Bova on keyboards. Edwards on bass guitar 🎸. Andy Taylor of Duran Duran on lead guitar 🎸 including the solo. The late Tony Thompson, RIP, on drums 🥁. Palmer, Taylor and Thompson were in The Power Station with John Taylor of Duran Duran in 1985. Edwards, Thompson and Nile Rodgers were in Chic. The sequel to this song is Simply Irresistible. Music video is similar. Bova played for Billy Joel back in the 1980s. Other hit songs from Robert Palmer. Doctor Doctor Bad Case of Loving You, Hyperactive, Some Like It Hot 🔥 (with The Power Station).
Was talking to my daughter about Robert Palmer and some of his songs recently. Back in the 1980’s, she was a little kid and MTV played videos. Her point - She had no idea what these song were really about when she was that age. If you watch/listen to Sledgehammer, you’ll know what I mean. Love this one, thanks!
Upbeat music with a broken feeling...dayam insightful...must have been the 80s. Those of us in your audience are passing the torch to the next generation with these reaction videos.
Robert Palmer has 15 albums from 1974 to 2003. He was also the singer of the super group The Power station Also been in 4 other bands The Mandrakes The Alan Brown set Dada Vinegar Joe
No doubt there's an objectivicaton of women & the women's looks are intentional, but it's also meant to come across as an over the top, bit toung in cheek way of expressing a guys head over heals for a girl, Addicted is a catchy way of expressing it, not necessarily literally addicted to a lust. It's was taken that way. Not that it doesn't have the sexualized effect just the same, too. Appreciate the valuable, thoughtful reaction on the overall subject you bring. TY
This is rather innocent. As a boomer and a feminist male (for equal rights for women) there wasn’t much protested against this. It’s quite tame and rather empowering for women in rock. And a great song.
You have to please 🙏 listen to Robert Palmer Simply Irresistible 🤩 My favorite lyric of his " she's so fine, there's no telling where the money went" lol so true Robert Palmer, so true lol 😉
Please dig a little deeper into Robert Palmer. He has an athletic voice. Sneaking down the alley with sally, sailin shoes, pressure drop. He left us too early.
The early and mid-80s were an era of style, class and sophistication. Stepping out without pleated pants, a belt, hard bottom dress shoes and a suit coat was a mortal sin, depending on your circle. The name of the game in the 80s was to dress for success and always maintain your dignity and composure in public. There were several distinct classes. The Wall Street, Miami, Harmless Suburbanite and Country cultures. There was no internet or cell phones and the police were essentially nonexistent. This video pretty much depicts the roles of men and women of that era. The men rolled and the ladies reaped the benefits of success, without leaving their lane with attitude like women do today. The cars were long, heavy and plush, built for a quiet, smooth, quiet cruise and it was rare to see a new car chopped up and brutalized like they do today.
He used these 'stepford' women like props, and I loved how Shania used pretty boys in the same way, as she sang about 'Man, I feel like a woman'. Totally making fun of the misogyny of this video. She has always been a 'womans woman'. Girl power
I don't know if it is actually true, but I heard a story about the making of this. Apparently the record company said something along the lines of 'Yeah, we like the song but we need to sex it up on the video.' Robert didn't really like the idea, but said..... ' OK you want girls?......I'll give you girls.' and came up with this idea of making them all look as similar as possible as a mickey take of the record company execs who asked for it to be done. There was a trilogy of videos like this....The other two were 'Simply Irresistible' and 'I Didn't Mean to Turn You On' both of which are well worth a look. An immensely talented singer taken from us far too soon!
I guess I missed the point back in the day. I just thought it was a groove and that being addicted to love was a good thing. The chicks were just clever eye candy, which was par for the video course then - but often with less class.
There are good rock bands from the 1970s as well BTO baby you ain't seen nothing yet REO speed wagon take it on the run baby Time for me to fly Journey wheel in the sky
I'm an older guy, and I'm glad you're willing to try to appreciate more than just one kind of music. MOST guys your age WON'T do that! Be better than them. . .Be smarter than them. . .Be way more intelligent than them. . .Sounds like you are! Stay that way! BUT, what you obviously DON"T understand is the reason this works is because he isn't dressed like a "rocker" (which is EASY to do, any IDIOT can do that), but he shows up with these hot chicks and he's dressed like an insurance salesman. Brilliant! Any FOOL could parade out in the standard rock outfit, but Palmer chose to create a whole different look for this song and it works because of that. The chicks are hot for any era of music, and he's dressed like the guy he's singing about who thinks he doesn't need those chicks behind him. Brilliant! Please be smarter than your friends who probably won't get this. Please!
How can you not have any reacted to any INXS (in excess)? What You Need live at Wembley Stadium in 1991 should be a great introduction to INXS plz n ty
Being addicted to love isn't a positive - it means you have no control and so you can't resist when you know it's a toxic situation. If you're addicted to love, you will leap into relationships that aren't right for you, that you know will cause damage. Tends to be more an aversion to loneliness than an actual addiction to "love".
"You can't sleep, no, you can't eat. There's no doubt, you're in deep, Your throat is tight, you can't breathe, another Kiss is all you need" Well, we've all been there, and I married mine. So you didn't feel like that when you were getting serious about your beautiful wife. It's not sad...it's real. Now you're addicted to your wife and gorgeous daughter. You could live without them.
Now you’ve heard this you won’t be able to get it out of your head. You’ll find yourself humming it when your busy doing other things. In Robert’s early music career he was part of a band called Vinegar Joe and they released a song called ‘Proud To Be A Honky Woman’. Definitely worth checking out. It also started the career of the lead singer Elkie Brookes, another artist you need to react to. As to the video, it’s typical 80’s randomness, Those who are offended by it are most likely part of the current fashion to have a total “Snowflake” attitude to everything.
He was in a local band from Scarborough The Mandrakes , his parents had a B and B there . He was about 15 when he started , his real accent is very Yorkshire
Nowadays this video would never get made. Not so much because of the objectification but because Robert Palmer was a 38-year-old pop star. They ain't making those anymore. That's why he looks like your teacher.

Robert was the classiet dressed rocker I've ever seen. always dressed sharp.
Robert Palmer was so talented. He goes way back from the early 70's. Someone who left us too soon. He is missed.
He is one of those ARTIST that stood out. Loved him. Soooo cool.
Thanks so much for this review Sebs 😊. Love Robert Palmer ♥. He died too young and is sorely missed. 'Simply Irresistible' is another fab track but my favourite is 'Aeroplane'. The follow up to this is his “Simply Irresistible”.
Better, and one of the best lines ever. You’ll know.
She's so fine, there's no telling where the money went.
Agreed
For the video, they got a girl who could actually play guitar and can see her hands playing the solo.
Love both addicted & irresistible......but #1 for me has 2 b irresistible
Robert Palmer was LEGEND!
Check out his work with Power Station:
"Some Like It Hot"
"Get It On (Bang A Gong)" (a T. Rex cover)
Solo:
"I Didn't Mean To Turn You On"
"Simply Irresistible"
"Mercy Mercy Me" (a Marvin Gaye cover)
And no, he wasn't objectifying women in this video. The whole thing was tongue-in-cheek. This was the MTV days. (I'm a woman.)
Also, don’t forget DOCTOR, DOCTOR! Fun old school rock tune!
Also the ABC show The Doctors' start the show with Doctor Doctor when it was on air.
Power Station ❤ Robert Palmer + John Taylor and Andy Taylor from Duran Duran 🎶🎶🎸
You might also like Robert Palmer's hits "Every Kinda People" and "Bad Case of Loving You" and "Simply Irresistible."
The man always looked his best, even live! The most dapper of rock stars.
It was a huge hit...and perfect for the time when music videos MTV/VH-1 were at their peaks.
This was the 80's...advent of the SUPERMODEL concept...Turlington, Evangelista, Naiomi...this was a riff on them too...beautiful, vacant, looking, robotic yet sensual female objects...but you can't look away.
I got introduced to Robert Palmer when he did Power Station!! I am a Duran Duran fan so naturally followed and loved Robert!! RIP! Talented man

No. The vid was run through twice, and they git it in that short amount of time. But, your story makes the point of it being boring etc
You may be right. I wonder why I got this story though. I can't confirm it so I will adopt yours. @@sianwarwick633
Your reactions are so fun! Thanks for taking me back to my parenting days!😍
That's still a classy look, even to this day! Robert Palmer had class and style.
Robert was the best dressed rock artist!!

Natural waist. I'm a sucker for a man in a suit and Palmer wore his with aplomb.
The reason for his pants being so high - is that dress pants are supposed to be worn at the waist, rather than off the hip like casual pants/khakis/jeans. Normally you wouldn't notice because there would be a jacket covering it up.
Could not go to any college dorm room back in the day that this was not playing loud!
So glad u got to hear and see this. She did him proud.❤

I truly enjoy your reactions. Thank you. ❤
Johnny and Marry is another one that's worth checking out, and there is a wonderful cover by Bryan Ferry & Todd Terje.

You may also want to check out "Simply Irresistible". He keeps the makeup the same on the models and just puts them in tight mini dresses.
Upbeat music with a broken feeling...dayam insightful...must have been the 80s. Those of us in your audience are passing the torch to the next generation with these reaction videos.
Robert Palmer has 15 albums from 1974 to 2003.

Also been in 4 other bands
The Mandrakes
The Alan Brown set

It brings back memories! Thanks for the reactions.
Shania killed it with her homage to this vid.
it had to be the most iconic video of all the 1980.s
My girlfriends and I had a blast dressed up as Robert Palmer girls halloween that year ! goooood times! ❤

Right, he wrote it from a dark place, but he turned it into a super hit. It IS a happy, fun song. Thanks for your reaction.
yeah, there was some fallout from the feminists, but I assure you, in 1985, we ALL knew how to make ourselves look like this.
This is rather innocent. As a boomer and a feminist male (for equal rights for women) there wasn’t much protested against this. It’s quite tame and rather empowering for women in rock. And a great song.
Another great song by Robert Palmer is Simply Irresistible. I think the video has the same models.
You have to please 🙏 listen to Robert Palmer Simply Irresistible 🤩 My favorite lyric of his " she's so fine, there's no telling where the money went" lol so true Robert Palmer, so true lol 😉
He used that line in a couple of songs I think
Oh, remember this video when it was on MTV 😅 The men loved it.😅
Shania Twain hijack this, this was in the 80s right here
Oh this era. But it had its gems and this is one!
I remember when this came out!!! (dated myself) It was the best dance song ❤
This one of the first videos put to a “movie”
Pretty nice gig if you can get it, all the girls were supermodels from what I remember
My son was in college when this song came out. He, his girlfriend & a couple of friends did this group as their costumes at a Halloween party.
The models were based on the art of Patrick Nagel who was very popular in the '80s! Yes I did have a poster of his on the wall.
" Simply Irresistible "
Great song and great reaction!

I always get a kick out of this video because so many people said that my sister looked like the models.
Lived in Mission SD for a year and Rosebud SD for a year. 1990 to 1991.
You really are overthinking this, just enjoy the beat and the visuals. It’s a masterpiece of its time.
Roxy music had a song call love is the drug
He doesn't do much but Palmer's charisma is great
I remember when this came out on MTV😂it was so hot 😎🇺🇸
This is where Shania got her 4 guys in the video you did.. Man! I Feel Like A Woman in reverse..
Go listen to SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE. Robert Palmer was and continues to be such a massive talent.
This was huge!!! 1985
Check out Robert Palmer's "Sneakin' Sally Thru The Alley"
You MUST see "Simply Irresistible " . 6:12

Robert Palmer died in 2003 at age 54 from a heart attack

Robert Palmer was one of the coolest MFers to ever live.

It's just pointing out the symptoms are the same as withdrawing from drugs.
Of course the next song to react is ZZ Tops Legs. Enjoy.
"You can't sleep, no, you can't eat. There's no doubt, you're in deep, Your throat is tight, you can't breathe, another Kiss is all you need"

Quick question. How many strings are there on the guitars? You *did notice the guitars, right? 😂
I want my, I want my, MTV.
Oh the MTV days😂

I doubt there are hundreds of straight men making money on Only Fans.
Shania's video was based on Robert's video. 🙂
'It's women's fault for being like beautiful you know'. Yikes. Are you gonna tell your daughters that too?
MADONNA! Live!
May I suggest Jess Roden, You can keep your hat on.
Robert Palmer 20th Anniversary is this month , can you please react to , Which of us is the fool by Robert Palmer , music video version please 😊
I heard they weren't even in the same studio. Who knows...it was great anyway
Nowadays this video would never get made. Not so much because of the objectification but because Robert Palmer was a 38-year-old pop star. They ain't making those anymore. That's why he looks like your teacher.
The 80s is where great Rock music went to die forever. A few (and I mean a few) good songs emerged from the dumpster fire of the 80s.
His song was first
Robert is the only one actually performing on this video, the women are just pretending.
Twain is a sore subject for those in the know. Don’t fall for her current statements.
Why does it look like Jimmy Fallon impersonating Robert Palmer? 😂😂😂
Good ole day's
Palmers look for this video was so out of the usual for the look of groups of this time. Shirt, Tie and very "stark" generic look to the women made him stand out compared to the other bands/groups of the 80's.
