This is to gauge in final sales number & online participation for the game. Microsoft will be keeping an eye on ya’ll here. I can tell you this game is fantastic & it always has been. I still can't believe it's been 10 years already. Time sure flies by! Killer Instinct was the main reason I bought a Xbox One back then. It was worth the investment despite the flaws that the Xbox One had.
About crossplay: back in the days when Steam version was launched there was a little game called Rocket League. It was on Steam, PS4 and Xbox1 soon after launch and the crossplay agreement went like this: Sony agrees to do it whenever, MS said they need a year, Sony answered with bailing out completely and devs returned them under the condition of no crossplay between Xbox and PS. That was the thing for 4 years until Sony relaxed the terms. About KI: you can say that SF6 does it and Rocket League above too, but they added their own profiles to do so easily. There's a problem of getting different names from different platforms and it is pain in the ass to test, such things are definitely avoided from the to-do list for this update.

I'm not an expert in Killer Instinct 2013, but by doing just a little bit of research into the current meta, I was able to understand the majority of these changes. Going by the newest information available from 2023, the characters who received the biggest nerfs: Rash, Fulgore, Aria, Glacis, and Arganos (despite what Max says) are all considered incredibly powerful. The characters that received the most buffs are all considered very weak in the current meta. Jago, Sadira, Kim Wu, General Raam, Orchid, Shin Hisako, and Spinal all got some love. It is pretty revealing that people are acting like this was nothing but a slaughter house to the top tiers. In fact, there were more characters who got buffed in this patch than there those who got nerffed. So, anyone saying this is nothing but nerfs is either misinformed, or are just drama llamas. In terms of intelligent balancing, the aspects which got nerfed appear to be the most degenerate and abusable strategies characters had. If you consider the ramifications of those kinds of degenerate strategies, they likely held back many of the low and mid tiers from having fun. Many match-ups were probably damn near unwinnable and incredibly frustrating for the lower tiers because characters like Rash (and probably Fulgore) were so cheesy. The developers are probably hoping many mid tiers will become much more viable in the meta because they don't have to worry about all those abusable strategies which worked before. There were also characters who received a combination of buffs and nerfs to retool the characters. The changes they made to Thunder and Eagle also reflect a desire to make the game less reliant on the most abusable strategies, while giving them new tools to be effective in other ways. Smart! The outcry over these changes really feels like dejavu. A real "Oh my god! Why didn't you nerf Jago's health regeneration!?" moment. Max has, in the past, praised the developers of KI for really intelligent balancing despite what the mob says. I think Max is letting his own personal feelings cloud his judgment because he is a Fulgore main. Everyone in chat and in the comments who is freaking out and agreeing are just following mob mentality. I invite anyone who is an actual KI 2013 expert to prove me wrong.
Precisely because you haven’t followed KI2013 you don’t know that this happened every time a patch dropped. It’s nothing new for the community of this game. Another point I want to make is that top tier in this game is somewhat of a shallow term, there are definitely characters better than others don’t get me wrong, but every character has (for the most part) always been viable. So much so that the game at the highest level was played with counter picks in mind and almost anyone had 1/2 pockets picks to cover bad MUs
I disagree heavily with @markalexander about the Fullgore nerfs. Just because they were right about Jago, and nerfed Jago in a different place than the community asked for, does not mean that buffing Fullgore was the right move. Especially when doing so causes more problems. Actually, they have a history of failing to balance Fullgore, a 10 year history of it. @@coomcharger6105 "at the end, Fulgore sacrificed itself to defeat the menace and save mankind. The unknown future rolls towards us, I face it for the first time with a sense of hope, because if a machine can learn the value of human life, maybe we can too"
I want to get good at fighting games in a nerdy way but when I start hearing stuff like “ Jagos DP has upper body invulnerability right? “. I immediately pause and think about all the many moves and how much work would have to go into those little technical knowledge based aspects that come over time that makes it seem immediately too intimidating in terms of time I can allot to that kind of learning/ training let alone being a begginer and getting used to the delay of online play in any fighting game whether it be anime or a legit fighter lol. And I would imagine I’m not the only person outside the fgc that feels this way. We want to do the cool stuff and get good too but with so many games coming out I just don’t think I have had fun going against a sweat to the point where I feel a hunger or desire to wanna keep beating my head against the wall that seems to be fighting game learning curves… and I LOVE fighting games . Just not when sweats and desperation for the W starts being more of a factor than simply possessing more skill and/or game knowledge. When mk1 came out early access I had it and played Baraka before I ever saw 1 video about him on TH-cam and I was kicking ass …. Then I kicked ass so hard that ppl started saying “ TH-cam combos” and it just makes me laugh cuz that’s what it’s all about . These days it’s not a fun sense of discovery for everyone because within 48 hours ppl expect to be able to just look up “the strongest weapon” “ optimal combo” “best camp spot on nuketown” “best build for …” Just sucks that the organic nature of gaming that we had from like Xbox live - ps4 and Xbox one era is pretty much gone. Every game is plagued with ppl being as desperate as possible so I can only imagine how frustrating it can be going again players who choose to dedicate themselves to a fighting game. The amount of cheese or broken exploitative bs ppl would take advantage of …. Fighting games to me just seem to have such a difficult time hooking players in. And I use myself as an example because I do have the desire but I also see the hundreds of reasons why it just doesn’t seem worth the frustration in most cases . After like 2 weeks of Mk1 after running Baraka and he only 3 characters I would mainly see became Johnny cage Raiden Kenshi And the reason being TH-cam yet again lmao . Sharing info is one thing but relying on this type of stuff every single game is crazy lol
I kinda get you but at the same time. Many of these aspects are widely applicable through the genre. In fact the uppercut is a perfect example of this! Pretty much every fighting game has an uppercut move with some sort of invincibility. Max probably remembered that there was something weird about it in this game so he asked if the invincibility was restricted in this specific way. But not just that many characters have some sort of invinsible reversal option. A button to press when you are getting your ass beat that can turn things around. And if the character you chose indeed doesn't it'll have a big ass warning sign by the community there letting you know that defensively the character is pretty weak. All this to say. Once you learn one, you learn most of them. And if there are any weird technical differences you'll feel them once you used your thing multiple times and suddenly got punched out of them. It becomes easy to learn by that pain.
Nothing balanced about nerfing people into the ground. It was fine for all those years and then they suddenly go and do that. Reason enough for people to completely abandon the game, I'd say.
you felt correct, max has been on record stating that having a game too balanced and slow paced makes a game boring to him. for example, notice he always praises MKX and MK9 but found MK11 extremely boring; and how SF5 on launch was boring as hell compared to its Closed beta counter part. i agree with him, Some fighting games (especially during the SF5 period) were to focused on the competitive side of the FGC and were too invested in grounded neutral/balanced play as opposed to wacky and fun gameplay mechanics.
@@OmniFluxX He likes balance as long as it doesn't come at the expense of fun or unique mechanics. KI regardless of balance maintains alot of unique mechanics in individual characters and in the systems.
Clearly you need better friends. If your friends are religiously searching up for a 10yr old game and immediately telling you what's up then you're just not homes. /s (but not really 😂)

it's funny seeing everyone cry about fulgore being nerfed into the ground as if fulgore hasn't had a million nerfs already which all did not move him from his extremely powerful position in the meta. the damage modern patches have had on fighting games is reflecting badly here
how about this. what the fuck is the point of nerfing characters if the changes aren't substantial enough to change anything and only effects very specific situations of at best only effects high tier players. It still leaves a sour taste in peoples mouths and at worst makes people stop playing characters
I'm not even a KI player or even all that involved in the community and as soon as I saw this stream go up I said to myself "Man, Rash is gonna get BONKED"
Please support this game guys even if you’re a Street fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken , or Skull Girls fan. Never ended getting an xbox simply because buying a whole console for 1 game is never a good idea. But good lord I really hated the fact that KI was stuck on a DoA console. When it went to steam i was so happy
It's really a shame that we the fighting game community wont get the chance to see MKvsKI imo I think if done right and if it was to ever happen it would be the best vs crossover fighting game ever but thats just my opinion and another thing that's crazy in my case I never got the chance to play ki because i have a PS i hope KI would be like MK in having there game on all platforms

We waited so long for the patch notes that made Fulgore into an angry toaster. At least the frog was also smashed by the nerf bat.
They did well 👍🏼😊on the icon designs
But when they enhanced Kym, bro 😅she got Scuffed up.
Fulgore had to sacrifice himself to nerf the damn frog
@@coomcharger6105 "at the end, Fulgore sacrificed itself to defeat the menace and save mankind. The unknown future rolls towards us, I face it for the first time with a sense of hope, because if a machine can learn the value of human life, maybe we can too"
1:46:00 Poor Max and I gotta say this stream did not make me want to jump back into the game they nerfed my two favorite characters. 😂
42:37 Max is a Prophet
With all the KI Gold references, and now Jet Force Gemini coming for Switch, it would be cool if they also re-released KI 1 and Gold for Switch.
These days it’s not a fun sense of discovery for everyone because within 48 hours ppl expect to be able to just look up “the strongest weapon” “ optimal combo” “best camp spot on nuketown” “best build for …”
Just sucks that the organic nature of gaming that we had from like Xbox live - ps4 and Xbox one era is pretty much gone. After like 2 weeks of Mk1 after running Baraka and he only 3 characters I would mainly see became
Johnny cage
Raiden
Kenshi
And the reason being TH-cam yet again lmao .
I feel like Max is that kind of player who doesn't like a "too balance" game, he just wants something interesting or fun.
Nothing balanced about nerfing people into the ground. It was fine for all those years and then they suddenly go and do that. Reason enough for people to completely abandon the game, I'd say.
@@thenonexistinghero Rash Main Detected
@@BrawlatronIdk man, your jokes feel like weak jabs
you felt correct, max has been on record stating that having a game too balanced and slow paced makes a game boring to him. for example, notice he always praises MKX and MK9 but found MK11 extremely boring; and how SF5 on launch was boring as hell compared to its Closed beta counter part. i agree with him, Some fighting games (especially during the SF5 period) were to focused on the competitive side of the FGC and were too invested in grounded neutral/balanced play as opposed to wacky and fun gameplay mechanics.
@@OmniFluxX He likes balance as long as it doesn't come at the expense of fun or unique mechanics. KI regardless of balance maintains alot of unique mechanics in individual characters and in the systems.
I'm pretty happy with the Kim Wu changes, that walk speed and fast jump are going to be hard to get used to but so cool.
low-key happy Riptor didn't get any changes.
Riptor is so good
I was really hoping we'd get ranked crossplay between steam and windows 10
Hang it in there 😅they might consider that ...
Hang it in there 😅they might consider that ...
the irony of K.I. devs worried about things looking choppy.
This patch might get me to actually try Killer Instinct. The characters seem more maneuverable and for me more interesting to pick up.
LETS GOOO BABY!
I finally have access to KI again and i can't wait to return to my babes Mira, Hisako/shin and Sabrewulf. ❤
My boy spinal speeding around 😂😌
KILLER INSTINCT IS BACK? AND NOBODY TOLD ME??
They announced this months ago man.
You had months to find out, plus the Internet. No one feels bad for you.
Why is thread being weirdly toxic? Weirdos lol
Clearly you need better friends. If your friends are religiously searching up for a 10yr old game and immediately telling you what's up then you're just not homes. /s (but not really 😂)
I NEVER played KI but I will absolutely play it now❤
Makes no sense
@@timmyboy2495 what
It’s still one of the best Fighters ever. It looks a bit dated in graphics but still good fun to play.
@@xnoorx you don’t see the hole in your logic? How can this balance patch possibly mean anything to you if you haven’t cared to play the game for 10 years? Just a little weird is all.
@@timmyboy2495 ummmmm because no one shined a light on the game? Haven't been in the spotlight for years? Because I never seen gameplay only played other fighting games? What you want NOT to try it out
And Orchid still doesn’t have her lasenken projectile 😒
they have to add classic music to the new stages no only to get them in the trainning mode.
I'm SO damn hype that KI is still getting love all these years later. ❤❤ (RIP Fulgore😢)
They destroyed fulgore. Complete massacre loool
Damn this was about as pleasant to watch as a Kombat Kast; but hey, Omen got out mostly unscathed so I’m happy.
Max's face when they revealed Fulgore's nerfs be like 😬
it's funny seeing everyone cry about fulgore being nerfed into the ground as if fulgore hasn't had a million nerfs already which all did not move him from his extremely powerful position in the meta. the damage modern patches have had on fighting games is reflecting badly here
how about this. what the fuck is the point of nerfing characters if the changes aren't substantial enough to change anything and only effects very specific situations of at best only effects high tier players. It still leaves a sour taste in peoples mouths and at worst makes people stop playing characters
get this man a medal, patch culture was a mistake
Not trying to sound like a doomer but imagine this being the last patch this game gets and Fulgore is just ass. It just sucks
"The Steam version is worse"
- 😢
"Nevermind, it's a good time to buy it"
- 😌
I'm not even a KI player or even all that involved in the community and as soon as I saw this stream go up I said to myself "Man, Rash is gonna get BONKED"
Please support this game guys even if you’re a Street fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken , or Skull Girls fan. At the end of the day competition makes fighting games better and KI was always that unique fighting game that stood amongst the best. For some reason MS is holding back on KI so if anything let’s show these corporate ties the true power of the fighting game scene!
I’m happy with jagos buffs. Been a fan of jago since KI 1 on Super Nintendo
Man 10 years ago I walked into a microsoft store and saw this game for the first time and it left me awestruck. I wanted an Xbox one just for this game alone. Never ended getting an xbox simply because buying a whole console for 1 game is never a good idea. But good lord I really hated the fact that KI was stuck on a DoA console. When it went to steam i was so happy
LOL 26:57 that face! Woo buddy with these movement buffs this game is going to be speedy! I love it!
Hell even I got a walking speed buff
I'm just glad that the only character of mine that got touched is Shin Hisako. I would not want to be a Fulgore or Rash player right now....
I'll be honest, the Steam version not having cross play on ranked means nothing to me, haha. I still got the Steam version.
I bought both because the MS Store is an abomination
Ranked is so overrated in fighting games, honestly.
I remember playing the original SNES Killer Instinct and learning all of the ultra combos without Tips&Tricks magazines!
This got me to pick up definitivt edition just for the retrogames.
Im playing this tonight, couldnt get into it back in the day but i am a huge gears fan so playing Raam seems really cool
Weird
@@timmyboy2495 bozo
It's really a shame that we the fighting game community wont get the chance to see MKvsKI imo I think if done right and if it was to ever happen it would be the best vs crossover fighting game ever but thats just my opinion and another thing that's crazy in my case I never got the chance to play ki because i have a PS i hope KI would be like MK in having there game on all platforms
Fulgore has been renamed Full Gone
Big old school KI fan, I'll definitely be there to play it. I wish KI would grow to SF and MK popularity. It's such a rad franchise.
I always love seeing Keits, dude is one of the reason I got hooked to the bigger FGC scene thanks to UFGT.
These Devs don’t Like Fulgore AT ALL
1:08:03 Kan Ra: you no longer need thissss...hahaha
I main gargos but Max went on a rant during his buff/nerfs so now I gotta find another video to find out what they did to him. This was still a good vid though
It was amazing this game got the support it did, shame it came out before cross Platfrom was way more common place
They nerfed Fulgore a little to hard
Watching this just thought of something. Games need to have rating system for dev support. Exmpl:1-3 yrs badge,3-5,5-10, also the ultimate "for live dev support"for games like KI !
I grabbed it for 13 bucks on windows store, the one game I’m going to play outside of Steam
It seems Ultratech is taking resources from Fulgore....
The nerfbat was strong here.
Fulgore got turned into a toaster.
Game is literally called Killer Instinct and we're worried about whether it's got M rated content in the collection.
The instinct of a killer! 😮😀
Max racking his brain to figure out the Fulgore player that hurt the devs.
It's like he's never heard of Nicky.
Soooo I can just get definitive edition for $17 right now and it will just update to the new one when it’s out? Instead of paying $40 (CAD)
Yes.
I really hope they add ultimates for Spinal and the remaining cast it’s insane that we haven’t gotten them for so long.
the guy probably got humbled by a fulgore online and now he is seeking revenge
Poor Max, just trying to laugh away the pain
Definitely just woke up my neighbors when they mentioned Thunders new walk speed 😅
Does anyone know, if the Windows Store version of KI supports 21:9 yet? Also, how does one modify, local Windows Store, “game app” data location files? There seems to be a mod on the forums and various site’s for support out there, however, it appears to be only for the steam version. @Max, any ideas? really would love an ultrawide update for KI with multiple resolutions supported. Thanks again.
i havent seen that man keits since rumbleverse shut down, i miss that fkn game tbh
Fulgore wuz one of my mains, they did my boi dirty 💯💯😂
I really like how Tusk looks like Max Dood 👍.
If there still supporting the game this means there is still a possibility of ki2
I was playing this game religiously when I worked on the Xbox One team, just before the console launch.
It almost sold me on buying one and I prayed to Bill Gates for the PC version.
By far one of the best fighting games of the generation!
"Shadow Jago got no changes."
Yes, because his Ultimate lacking any sort of "impact" due to poor audio choices was _intentional,_ I guess?
This was a balance patch, bro.
@@HeirofDacia Doesn''t change the fact parts of the game aren't finished since 6 years ago, bro.
Hey that's a cool RAAM buff. Kryll Rush is gonna be scary, now.
Crazy how Rash is just in a wheelchair now
