@@Smeedia I have a question on a 2015 Wrx FA20 Engien. It makes a noise since a purchase is two years ago. I also was told that those FA20 engine are more likely louder than the STi. How true is it?. I will like to send you a video a took but don’t know how or where.
I love how transparent you are with the spending on your builds! Its easy as a viewer too forget how much it costs for builds on something like this. Keep up the amazing work!
Good bot (boy)* for clarifying that axle seals differ from side to side and from model years. Just swapped axle seals on a stubbed jdm forester xt 6 speed transmission. It's alot easier to change those, especially since you have to remove the sun dials. Put it on a bench, remove seal, install new one. There are also tiny marks on the seal itself which indicate rotation of wheels, for reference.
@Smeedia I believe either on the inside of the seal (hollow area where spring sits) or on outside portion of seal, I forget which, there is a tiny little arrow, that points in the direction wheel is supposed to spin, going forward. Besides that, subaru part number.
I know this is your ultimate final Subaru and all that, but please tell me that you're going to just beat the shit out of it and Rallye it! Offroad paint chips, sideways, loud noises, all the goodness! This is my dream build too, and I tried a good 10-15 years ago to find a nice GC to do that, but just couldn't get one that wasn't completely decrepit or already modified. And yes, it was great to see Matlas again!
Mattimus!!! so good to see your face dude! Tanner, this was a very enjoyable video to watch and a great tutorial on how to build an axle. Honestly, I'm saving this video for when the time comes. It's going to save me a ton of money, as opposed to purchasing a brand new OE axle from Subaru. thank you! 😁
I have been watching sense the turbo brz build and I recently picked up a brz of my own to build with my dad, thank you for the amazing content these past years 😊
Merch Matt and more 22b this is better than Christmas. Very happy to hear the difference in price for rebuild kits. I was about to just order axles. Thank you so much
You should have bought the pliers that pull those clamps together. They are a life saver. I remember the first time an old tech let me use his pair when I was a nissan tech and boy did it make a difference in my anger level lol.
I have a set and they work great for the squeeze clamps, but some are almost like metal zip tie style where you fold them over and there are two little ears that hold the band down
@Smeedia there is a tool for that style as well , but I never use mine since I never wanna look for it , a pair of needs nose pliers and a mallet always works for me
I'm teaching my class of 91B about drive train and transmission and specially talked about the transmission engine speed sensor and you just replaced it😃
Regarding the shifter linkage hitting the trans tunnel, I have also had this issue even after engine installed but my trans is a SG9 Forester STi 6spd so the linkage was slightly angled differently compared to a sedan one, swapped to a 04 STi sedan linkage and no clearance issues after.
I got my engine out! Turbo us off to be rebuilt. Waiting to get my hands on a cam sprocket wrench to continue tearing the engine down now. Good progress on the 22b bro! Definitely looking forward to this one in its final form.
If you have some vice grips you can use the old timing belt to hold all the sprockets to take off the 10mm Allen bolts. 👀 kind of a pain but definitely do-able if you don’t want to wait

If I’m not mistaken the forester xt with a manual transmission has a little spacer welded to the trans mount, it makes it so the rear of the trans is pointed downward a bit. When I did my auto to manual swap on my xt I noticed that but used a regular Wrx trans mount without the spacer and never had any rubbing issues. I know it’s a complete different chassis but might help you to look for a forester xt trans mount to get a little bit more clearance if when dropping the motor in doesn’t help!!!
I’d love one of the OG hoodies, do you have a reasonably cost effective solution for posting to the U.K.? Otherwise it’s more than double the cost. Loving the 22B build 💪
no personal experience with it but a GC8 at the track with a 6 speed told me he had to slightly bash in the trans tunnel in one place to avoid it hitting anything in motion over bumps etc also remembering how I had to put the trans in 2nd gear for installation of that bolt which goes horizontally across the top of the trans (in my GG)
If it still touched with an engine in I think I might need to do the same thing. I haven’t seen anyone else mention ton it before though. That U joint is such a PIA to do 😂
This video is going to come in absolutely clutch; I need to fix the slop in my shifter and replace an axle. On another note, what are your thoughts on tuning NA 2.5s?

Unrelated question... but why has no one ever (from what i know of) put a Porsche flat six in one of these? Feels like the most "fitting" swaps/upgrades? Are those engines very expensive? Love the build btw!
Hey mate I’ve done a 6mt swap in my gc8 swap recently, it’s a tight fit for the linkage but doesn’t hit, once the pitch stop is in there no clearance issue
You got some extra block halves? Just bolt and some halves with engine mounts for now. It should clear just fine. It's probably, like you said. You don't have the engine in. Also, you might flip the U-joint. I think it should be offset down.
To bad i don't know you better i got a shit load of those boot clamps from rebuilding my axles not to long ago. I've almost thrown them away a few times just cause I'm tired of moving them.
I bought a short block off a guy and it ended up having a broken lower head stud boss between 2/4. The top half of the casting above the bolt hole is ripping away towards the top of the block. Outfront said they haven't ever seen one broken like that 😮
