Your comment brought to mind what is arguably the greatest speech by a woman in American history: Elizabeth Cady Stanton's "The Solitude of Self." She penned it in the 1890s as an appeal for woman's suffrage and women's autonomy saying (paraphrase) that women don't need to be under the protection of men because at every great moment of their lives from birth to death -- they walk alone. 😢 It's worth a read.
@@markmh835hardly the greatest. Women’s suffragettes were all about helping white women only. So let’s not forget the all color of women needed their support but never received it.
The moment the coffin and little elizabeth appeared almost brought me to tears. Realized that although she left behind a lot of herself along the way, she had never forgotten what she had always needed to do: her duty. When little elizabeth saluted her it’s like she was saying well done, for being a faithful servant of the throne
At just after one minute into the scene, Viola Prettejohn, as Princess Elizabeth when she was a Second Subaltern in the Auxiliary Territorial Services, comes into view from behind the coffin and salutes Queen Elizabeth. The most emotional part of the finale in my opinion.
This scene really hits home. It just says “This is it. This is where the story ends. Through all the hardships and sacrifices. For better and for worse.” “This song is almost over, but the story lives forever.”
The part where she steps to the side of the coffin and sees her younger self saluting her really puts into perspective just how long her reign was and how many historical eras she lived through. The modern attire we're all used to seeing in our modern day in photo and film, and then the WW2 uniform that we only see in history books or in museums or black and white grainy photographs. Both of them together contrasting eachother is an odd sight. If that shot were a picture it would indeed paint a thousand words.
Also how they absolutely made Claire Foy look so vintage like she was ripped from a black and white old vintage film even her skin texture is almost pale it’s brilliant like some archive film being colorized. She looked like a ghost from the past literally.
I'm not British. I'm Indian. The day I find out that Queen Elizabeth had passed away was the day I realized I was expecting her to live forever. Some people are so significant in history that their presence is a latent cornerstone of existence. I think that is what the queen meant to the her kingdom and even to the people of the world. A source of consistency and stability. Her passing really made me feel the transience of life. Everyone goes.
As someone who served the crown for 25 years in the Royal Navy, I too felt the queen would be there for always. I was honoured to have met both her & Phillipa few times. They both served with dignity, honour and steadfastly. RIP
I'm not British either (American), and I kid you not just THE DAY BEFORE the Queen passed me & my mom were joking she would live yet another ten years... It was so unreal to hear the next day on the radio that she passed away 😔. Everything & everyone must go eventually. But what a story & legacy she left behind.
YES! I was really hoping Claire and Olivia would make a final appearance on the show. I thought it would be during a flashback scene, but this is better. It's more emotional, beautiful, and touching. It's just awesome to see these 3 amazing actresses who portrayed Queen Elizabeth phenomenally.
I can't even imagine how hard it was to write and come up with this concept to pay tribute to the Queen even though the story still takes place around 2005. So masterful, what a tribute.
@@Deedz1st I don't think so. The final season was filmed around the time of the Queen's death, so I think they filming this part afterwards. Added this piece, on the contrary, the budget was expanded.
My Nan is Scottish and she passed before Prince Phillip and Queen Elizabeth, but we had “Sleep, Dearie, Sleep” played at her funeral as we carried her in to the crematorium. It was a proper gut punch to hear it at both funerals and in this scene
That final walk of the Queen in that vast and empty hallway... What a beautiful way of ending that magnificent show! Moved me to the tears, I'm still emotional... Thank you for such a wonderful 7 years!
The fact that Queen Elizabeth wore a white dress in the last scene of the series proves that she left this world as a beautiful angel. The white dress symbolized heaven, the place where she belongs peacefully. It's a small detail that i really love.
As an American I say this with great respect, while this scene is obviously fictionalized, the regal stability she brought in a global chaotic time that lasted over 7 decades can NEVER be overstated. This scene encapsulates her never-ending commitment to the duty to which she pledged her entire life. From someone far away, thank you for never stopping. LEGEND
The Royal Family haven't always been well liked, but we always accept them as part of who we are as a country. At least every senior royal has served their Mother/Grandmother in the armed forced. Hell Prince Andrew went and fought in the Falklands even though Queen Elizabeth didn't want him to go, say what you want about his connection to a Peado, he served his country loyally in that war
This is the most iconic ending to any show ever. Its so meaningful, respectful and reverent. No matter how many times I watch it, it still makes me cry. Job well done.
This scene has so much symbolism. We see her past come to her as she wrestles with what the right thing to do is: Abdicate or stay Queen till death. If you notice in this scene both of those Elizabeth’s are symbols of her past life. they are here in all black to symbolize those deaths of her past selves and now they’ve made way for this seasoned, wiser Elizabeth to finish out her time and join them. Also the beauty of walking from that deep darker colored inner church area to the much brighter area is so beautiful and symbolizes her eventual walk into heaven
Also, it highlighted the success of what the crown symbolizes which is constancy whilst showing instability once she crosses the horizon to her eventual death. Both the young and middle aged Elizabeth symbolized that. Nuance is what made this show unique.
I saw them dressed in black as one would at the funeral of anyone, this being the Queen. The long walk represents the many years after Charles getting married and even her husband passing that she kept on rulling till walking toward the light of the afterlife.
My hope is that "on the other side", her father, Churchill, Eisenhower and the other greats of that fading era were there to shake her hand, and welcome her and Philip to eternity. May all of those incredible men and women who helped save mankind in that terrible war and years that followed rest in honored peace.
I’m watching the video while squatting over a dirt filled hole in Shanxi, China and upon reading your comment several large logs gushed out of my behind and my skin came into contact with the soft gelatinous substances, do you agree?
I certainly will never forget it, nor her. She was queen for almost all of my life 😔 I know that this is a work of fiction but watching it is very upsetting 😳😢
I cried the whole funeral knowing that could have been me 6 months later but I feel so relieved that Woody.EXE didn’t have to go through this process because he would have stepped down from Wales’s throne on the day of my funeral and my 2009 Woody would have had it with his future Queen my sister, Princess of Wales. Wales would have changed completely if Woody had taken it but Woody.EXE would never abdicate the throne and he’s carrying on a year after I got unwell and I’m still carrying on as Queen. Wales would never be the same without me and Woody.EXE in it but Woody should have a chance at least. I hope Woody and my sister will reign one day
So much symbolism and meaning here, it's such a beautiful ending. From Phillip leaving her side, symbolizing that he passed before her and she had to move forward without him. Then, her seeing herself lying in state, then seeing her past-selves. Her thinking about how far she's come and her life's journey. Then her walking through the corridor and through the door which opened without anyone there, showing only light on the other side, symbolizing her passing. 😢 Rest easy, your Majesty.
I found the 1:00 part quite touching. An elderly woman knowing her time has come, looking back at her young self, and feeling a sense of happiness and acceptance with her life.
There's a poignant comparison in this scene that goes all the way back to one of the first scenes in Season 1, Episode 1. We see Elizabeth walking into Westminster Abbey with her father to marry Phillip. She is surrounded by people all there to support her. And by the end of the show, the final scene of Season 6 Episode 10, we see Elizabeth walking out of the chapel that is completely empty. No King George or Queen Elizabeth. No Margaret. No Phillip. No Winston. No one to guide her or support her anymore. She is completely on her own to make it work, and that long walk from the inner chapel through the outer chapel to the door is quite symbolic of how long she had to reign, really, on her own, before she departed.
Yes, beautifully said. One of the saddest things about getting so old is that you lose those you love most. I saw it with my father. He outlived my mother and all of his friends. So difficult. I saw someone say that the walk through the corridor was 96 steps. For every year of her life. Amazing series! I didn't want it to end.
Man that walk alone at the end.. Beautifully done! Imelda Staunton killed it. She let go of the woman she was & dedicated her whole life to Crown & Country. To Duty. & she wasn’t even born to bear the burden. Now she can finally rest. Sleep well your majesty💜
The way they made her stay alive as she has almost 2 decades of her life left yet have her funeral scene and passing on represented by the walk across the hall through the gate into the light is such an amazing way to do it.
Everyone has mentioned the symbolism of this scene, and it is truly beautiful and masterfully done, but something I noted was Phillip’s final scene, how he comforts her glibly, then says “say one for me” before “going on ahead”. It may not be something they planned for people to notice, but it just stands out to me. He was her rock, her “strength and stay” so to me, it was Perfect for that to be his last act; a comforting sweet moment, and a cheerful nod to her faith.
“Well Done, Ma’am” She served her kin, country and commonwealth for her whole life! And never faltered in that duty! As a Canadian and child of the 90s I always saw The Queen as that sweet, wise, wonderful grandmother that could teach you so many wondrous things. She passed not long after my own grandmother passed, so it hit a little hard, like I had just lost another sweet grandmother in life.
Chills, literal chills! The symbolism with that last shot of her walking the long walk into the proverbial light is unmistakable. Even though this was set 17 years before her actual death, you could think of it as her soul making one last round during those quiet hours before her funeral, encountering her younger selves and being reminded of what parts of her she had to sacrifice to become Queen, before finally walking away and crossing into the afterlife, bringing to an end the second Elizabethan age. Probably the best way to wrap this magnificent series.
So much is said in this scene without a single word, incredible writing and acting. The entire life of the Queen and 6 seasons distilled into 2 minutes of screen time. The look on Imelda's face when the young Elizabeth appears is so spectacular it takes my breath away.
Only one who was missing was kid Lizzy. I would've had her run to the altar and catch older Liz's attention. This scene was her accepting her mortality before the long walk.
This scene was iconic and unforgettable. A beautiful tribute to our queen. The empty and long corridor recalls the lonely burden that the crown imposes, and the long life that the queen enjoyed. Claire Foy and Olivia Colman were brilliant and with Imelda they gave us this incredible ending.👑♥️
Cried at this.. This scene was so stunningly done.. Where her younger self gave her the salute, nod and tiny smile as if to say "Thank you, Ma'am"... And the 3 of them together in the final farewell. No dialogue.. Just everything said with the eyes and the music. . Thank you to The Crown for ending the finale of such a fantastically engaging show this way. xx

Can’t believe it’s been a year since she left. This ending scene is beautifully done and captured the three wonderful actresses playing the titular role. 🙏
I love this ending. The way the bagpipes play is touching. Also the way they did it its like she saying goodbye to the job that she had , but also her family and lastly saying goodbye to her people.
This is the only scene of "The Crown" I have ever watched, and probably will remain so. I can, however, state that I fully expect that Her Late Majesty most likely did walk into eternity with that same determination shown here. She probably looked upon her passage through the veil to be nothing more than another duty to be fulfilled, another step in life that she would take without hesitation... and she was likely met by her ancestors with thunderous applause.
In life, I have never been a big fan of Queen Elizabeth. Thanks to The Crown, I was able to understand her role, despite the fact that there are many things that are not real but fiction. Regardless of her good or bad decisions, Elizabeth remained firm and stoic in her role, in her community, until the end. , as if wanting to be the emblem of a nation. When little Elizabeth comes out from behind the coffin and greets her, like saying "Well done, Lilibeth" tears came to my eyes. Everything in this series has been perfect, throughout 6 seasons.
She kept her promise to her people and country for almost her entire adult life. It's more than any politician has ever done, for that alone she is one of my all-time favourite Britons.
i guess it depends on who has been affected by her. she can be loved by the brits but there are certain thing she has done or rather, not done in regards to de-colonialized countries that others resent her for. @@advancedape9791
Elizabeth was the embodiment of what the Crown is supposed to be in the British constitution. Not the myth, or what it ought to be, she didn’t take her position lightly and put duty to the nation ahead of her own life. She represents the sovereignty of the UK. There will be none like her again.
I have finished the episode a few minutes ago, and after 7 years, I said goodbye to this show, and to the Queen. I am an italian boy, but I cant explain the admiration for this show and for the late Elizabeth II. Now, I can finally say "Goodbye my Queen, may you rest in peace". Thank you The Crown
I'm from Mexico and still can't find the words to explain why we feel this way for someone who we barely knew, someone who didn't even rule the country we lived in. It's truly amazing!
I love this scene. Little Elizabeth stepping out from behind the coffin, saluting, and smiling. As if saying, "Look how far we've come! You did it! You did your duty and accomplished your mission. Well done!"
I was crying seeing this scene for the first time and am again. I may be from the United States, but I grew up with her on the throne. Sbe was an amazing woman and a amazing Queen for the Commonwealth. It feels strange not having her on the throne. I miss her and Philip to this day and always will.
Seriously , what a show... amazing .. it really shows you the history of the Crown. Phenomenal acting, and the characters were superb , please please watch this show if you like history , you will not regret it!!
The final episode really leaned into the scope and grandeur of Shakespearian tragedy. Elizabeth was a small country woman, prim, contained, simple, and steely. When everyone else flipped out she was implacable, unflappable. She symbolised perfectly the generation she came from- unassuming and self deprecating and confident. She was the living embodiment of an older England, gone now for better or worse.
Yes she was unfeeling, while her soldiers massacred her citizens in the streets of Northern Ireland and the government in her name armed, trained and supplied loyalist terrorists to murder Irish Catholics. In Britain ye mourned her, in Ireland we celebrated.
I like the symbolic of this long corridor, even if we are imagining her death in this scene, she still had a long way before passing that door, which of course symbolizes heaven.
And speaking of symbolizing heaven, don't forget that she wore a white dress. That white in the dress also symbolized heaven, the place where she belongs peacefully
@@LorraineTuazonI felt like it symbolized how during life she was such a powerful force and the closer she got to the door the closer she became part of history until we say ‘she was’ versus ‘she is’

Phillip going out before her, by the side door. The long walk she did until getting to the door representing the 17 years she still had ahead of her. The symbolism was brilliant.
In real life, Elizabeth died 17 months after Philip. So I was confused when you said 17 years, then realised you meant from the time The Crown finished in 2005. But either fits perfectly in my opinion.
This scene and the end scene in S1,E2 where Queen Mary does the deep curtsy and meets the new Queen Elizabeth’s eyes are the most powerful of the series (to me).
Did anyone notice the path Queen Elizabeth walks on at the end, if you ignore the triangular pattern at the starting of the path and the box at the end of it, there are exactly 17 lines in between the middle over which she walks over. Signifying her remaining 17 year reign from the time the show ends at (2005) to the end of her reign (2022). After which she walks into the gate with shining light, symbolising afterlife.
Literally just finished this episode. I know a lot of it's fiction but one thing is for sure, she was an absolutely remarkable woman. Utterly dedicated in fulfilling her duty to her nation.
This is definitely one of the most poetic, reflexive and perfectly well done endings I have ever seen, I am not from the united kingdom but I am huge fan of it's culture and the royal family is one of my favorite topics, the Queen will always be remembered as one of the most historic leaders, not only from the united kingdom, but for the universal story as well, remember when I watched the funeral live one year ago and this will bring a lot of people feel exactly what they felt when they were watching the funeral on TV, because it was my case. Rest in peace your Majesty.🫡😞😢😭
When I read that every incarnation would appear, I imagined it would be a transition scene in which Claire Foy would walk somewhere and we go past a pillar or something and then see her change into Olivia Colman and so forth. But this is beautifully done.
An impeccable way of representing the end and a new beginning. Her decision not to step down (shuffling the cards during her speech to skip that part) signaled a rebirth, a re-commitment to the rest of her reign as Queen. In the group photo scene, she appeared to reawaken, re-commit to her duty. I admire how Peter Morgan wove in the imagery of her funeral 17 years later, but the final scene suggested that she was still very much alive and walking alone, to continue her duty as Queen. Brilliant ending that can be interpreted in many ways.
When the score for the show is interjected along side the lone bagpiper playing sleep dearie sleep, having it match so perfectly was very well done on whomever scored the show. Such a great scene and despite the critisisms the show got it was a pretty good tribute to the late queen
Never thought that it was going to end... But the song just made me cry so much as if a part of me just left with the queen.. Long Live Queen Elizabeth👸🇬🇧
I saw this at a special premiere yesterday and I had to say, everyone there was bawling their eyes out during this scene. It still brings up tears during this
WOW, I think it is GREAT that this scene portrays her walking calmly and resolutely. Not laying down in a dark sad room. Such a beautiful tribute to the woman, and the station she held in life. Bravo, very wll done scene.
This scene was a total gut punch. What a fitting way to say this is where the story ends. It was so eloquently done the long walk, 70 seconds equating to 70 years of reign. There shall never be another. I think we all thought she’d live forever.
And so it ends. Im kind of glad that towards the end they brought the attention back to where it always belonged, The Queen. Diana, charles, william and harry took up so much screentime that it was almost annoying how little we got to know the s5 and 6 Queen. Imelda Staunton hardly got time to shine, but this ending truly showed how good she was
I absolutely loved this ending. It gave me the chills, and left me with a profound sense of thanks that my life was spent with her as Queen, even though I'm American and Rex is anathema to me. She was one of a kind, and we shall not see her like again.
Having steered the Royal Family through the majority of the 20th century; having navigated the changes, coped with the globalisation of the media; coped with being subject to the 24 hour new cycle; left as (along with her namesake QE1 and Victoria) amongst the most loved of all monarchs @@nomahope3182
"i declare before you all my life whatever it be long or short will be devoted to your service" she lived 17 years more years beyond the shows timeline to be the lonest reigning britsh monarch
The powerful scene is combined so well with the epic music. That dynamic and lively rhythm when the young Elizabeth Windsor showed up and paid tribute to the self that she devoted her life to; the beautiful melody when Claire and Olivia appeared and at last solemn music symbolizing the long reign that the Queen has enjoyed and her services to the Crown, accompanying the last journey to the end of her life, ending with a peaceful tone that stays in the collective memory of the world. And the walk, although she had to finish the last period of her rule by herself, this was undoubtedly a tremendous tribute to her remarkable life and the legacy she left behind.

Someone must have rewatched Lost before writing the final scene...
Just for the record, that ‘vast and empty hallway’ is York Minster, one of the world’s greatest cathedrals
@PhilipTait-oi2hm thanks, now I know the place (I hope I'll recreate this scene one day...)

LEGEND
She served more military time than Trump's entire family.
You are so right and global stability is so desperately needed right now. The world is in such turmoil and without a leader to look to for guidance.

This is the most iconic ending to any show ever. Its so meaningful, respectful and reverent. No matter how many times I watch it, it still makes me cry. Job well done.
The final scene of the last Blackadder was amazing. So poignant
I’ve watched this episode twice very moving so well done
I saw them dressed in black as one would at the funeral of anyone, this being the Queen. The long walk represents the many years after Charles getting married and even her husband passing that she kept on rulling till walking toward the light of the afterlife.
Very nice breakdown.
Also Philip's last line "I'll leave it to you. Say one for me?", while she's crying, is very symbolic, like he announces his death just before hers
Perfect ending…after all these years…they nailed this final scene.
They sure did! Perfect ending of ‘The Crown’
She lived a long and golden life, she will always be remembered as the Queen
My hope is that "on the other side", her father, Churchill, Eisenhower and the other greats of that fading era were there to shake her hand, and welcome her and Philip to eternity. May all of those incredible men and women who helped save mankind in that terrible war and years that followed rest in honored peace.
This is beautiful. I'm an American and I cried like a baby when Queen Elizabeth died. May she rest in peace.
I’m American and I broke down as well.
When the queen is saluted by her precious years, it’s a reminder of a life dedicated to service.

I know I'm Irish but this made me emotional despite our differences as a nation
The way they made her stay alive as she has almost 2 decades of her life left yet have her funeral scene and passing on represented by the walk across the hall through the gate into the light is such an amazing way to do it.
It was our farewell to her.
They should of had Philip waiting for her and them walking into the light together.

@@madsellers4933 it still would’ve been nice to see
Everyone has mentioned the symbolism of this scene, and it is truly beautiful and masterfully done, but something I noted was Phillip’s final scene, how he comforts her glibly, then says “say one for me” before “going on ahead”. It may not be something they planned for people to notice, but it just stands out to me. He was her rock, her “strength and stay” so to me, it was Perfect for that to be his last act; a comforting sweet moment, and a cheerful nod to her faith.
I agree; Philip was ironically like Albert to Victoria with Elizabeth, her rock to keep her grounded and resilience to continue her duty as monarch.
And notice where Prince Philip heading to the gate i think where the route going down the tomb site.
I see her leaving through the door as being free in her next life. She has so much but never freedom.
I thought they were different religions so he cant pray there? Or am I a dumbass? 😂
Thank you Queen Elizabeth II for serving for so long and faithfully. Rest well, your Majesty.
I took a huge dump
“Well Done, Ma’am”
She served her kin, country and commonwealth for her whole life!
I cannot respect the Queen and Great Britain because of their aggressive colonial policies and endless desire to destroy Russia 😒
That is an absolutely beautiful way to look at this scene.
You mean 20* years before her actual death cause the queen mother passed in 2002 and Elizabeth in 2022
@ehrichan6726 yes but this scene is after the wedding of camilla and charles, so it's currently 2005 in this scene. 17 years before 2022, her death.
@@ehrichan6726 it’s 17 years because 2005-2022 is 17.

The look on Imelda's face when the young Elizabeth appears is so spectacular it takes my breath away.
Great acting all the Elizabeths
Only one who was missing was kid Lizzy. I would've had her run to the altar and catch older Liz's attention. This scene was her accepting her mortality before the long walk.

Did anyone notice the path Queen Elizabeth walks on at the end, if you ignore the triangular pattern at the starting of the path and the box at the end of it, there are exactly 17 lines in between the middle over which she walks over. Very respectful scene. Showing of the things to come for Queen Elizabeth II.
