Princess Anne is my favorite character on the show. I love the scene u describe here, but I also love when she gets her grandmother, Princess Alice interviewed by the newspaper. She is definitely the princess of sass!
Gillian Anderson did a wonderful job of making Thatcher feel so out of place at Balmoral. You actually start to feel sorry for her, in spite of her tyrannical nature.
This is clearly fictional. Prime Ministers get protocol sheets to understand what exactly they're getting themselves into when they visit a royal palace or the royal hunting lodge at Balmoral. Thatcher IRL would've been told through the protocol sheet what to bring in terms of clothing, what to wear for what occasion, and where to sit and not to sit (or work). The servants would've also told her what to do and not left her high and dry like the servants here do.
@pdruiz2005 chances are you are very right about Thatcher's preparedness, but it is fairly well documented that she hated going to Balmoral and referred to it as like being in Purgatory. And the somewhat strained relationship between her and Her Majesty is also pretty well known about so while how it's shown in the show likely is not true to real life events, I think it probably does do a good job of showcasing Thatcher's feelings towards it and the Royal Family.
@@paulscott2037 Thatcher probably hated all the useless and overly-complex rules on the protocol sheets she was given. And then having to follow these rules mindlessly for days on end. She was known to be a strict, unrelenting workaholic. For a workaholic, these rules could get mighty annoying pretty quickly since they impede productivity and doing meaningful work right here and now.
The one scene that got me laughing hard was when Philip and Elizabeth were talking who their favorite of their kids were and Elizabeth was all in denial that she played favorites and Philip straight up says "Anne's my favorite." That and the nickname he had for Anne and his wife, Cabbage being Elizabeth's and the guy hearing "Sweetie" over the intercom thinking it was her. Princess Alice had a few good quips too. lol
Before Princess Anne's interrogation she warms the audience up by singing "Star Man" to herself in the car. It gets funnier from there. As well, the "punch line" from Princess Margaret after Thatcher leaves Balmoral "I thought I was very nice"--truthfully that's Margaret at her best behavior. In the same season, although this is a bit dark, Elizabeth questioning why Diana wants William with her on their trip to Australia. She and the Queen Mother both question why a baby would be a "stabilizing influence" and Elizabeth argues that when she went on tour to Australia she left the kids at home for five. Anne looks PO-ed and about to let out one of her sharpest barbs yet and Margaret looks at her like "I got you kiddo" and asks Elizabeth if she thought that that might have had consequences. And Elizabeth obliviously answers "of course, the tour was a triumph!"
How could y’all forget "If memory serves, you had your own ballerinas for that" causing Phillip to choke on his food and stutter. That’s my funniest moment from the entire series
My favorite would be the meeting with her tutor when she finds out parliament have been hiding Churchill's medical issues from her. The tutor tells her to summon them and dress them down like children because, being upperclass men, the thing they want most is a dressing down from nanny.
Olivia Colman, Helen Bonham Carter, and Erin Doherty - all three pure Crown gold! I agree with your #1 but also her first scene. We all know Olivia and Helen's delivery perfection but Erin's delivery is spectacular. I laugh every single time!
Also, of all the prettied up casting choices (esp. for Charles) she had the most verisimilitude for me. She was never a Barbie beauty, but she was always a handsome one.
A lot of the scenes with Princess Margaret are really funny. I especially like the scene when her and the Queen are discussing where Diana lives and Margaret says Diana's sharing a flat with "prostitutes and Australians"😂😂
Do you mean deliberately funny or unintentionally funny? If we’re including unintentionally funny it has to be the tampongate scene from season 5. The looks on everyone’s faces as they read the transcript while we hear Charles and Camilla talking is pure comedy gold
My favorite is in the first episode of season three when she is shown the new official portraits. As the one showing atruggles to find a graceful way to say older The Queen says in an annoyed voice "Old Bat." I love the look on her secretary's face as he tries to keep from laughing out loud.
You guys missed an opportunity with the scene where Prince Philip asks the Queen if she expect more children from him after getting her hair cut. «Adjectives to stir the loins»😂😂😂.
One Of My Favorite Hilarious Moment Is When The Prime Minister Is "Explaining" To The Queen Princess Margaret And President Johnson Colorful Game The Whole Scene Always Make Me Laugh And The "You Made It This Far And "Bravo" Makes It Very Hilarious 😂😂😂😂😂
I love how most of the funny moments were from the seasons with Olivia Colman. I know we LOVE Claire’s queen but I don’t think Olivia can help being funny. I love her 😂 I wish Matt Smith’s rant about Margaret and Tony’s engagement made the list. That was a hilarious moment in season two that my friends and I quote all the time. Also…when he was making fun of the Queens hair 😭😭😭.
My favorite Churchill line was, "An empty taxi pulled up to Buckingham Palace and Mr. Atlee got out." BTW, Dean Robin Woods was the man that replaced the aged vicar.
I loved the Princess Margaret and president Johnson lymerics. And I was surprised when liz says "which parent would openly admit to having a favourite child" .. I was like your dad did... the whole "pride and joy - Elizabeth is my pride but Margaret is my joy" thing...
@mortimerbrewster3671 you could interpret this in many ways, but my interpretation is that "joy" is the favourite. Pride isn't always a good thing and the use of the word "but" can suggest that King George VI is happier and enjoys Princess Margaret's character and interests over Princess Elizabeth's.
@@felicityanne979 My initial thought was as you stated but the more I thought about it, coming from not just a father but also a king, I was leaning towards pride. That's actually why I think it's the perfect answer if being pressed to give one. You may take joy out of someone or something but I think being able to take pride out of someone or something is greater. Especially when that person you took pride in ended up with an enduring legacy that dwarfed her father's. He raised her to be ready for a daunting responsibility and he, no doubt, knew she would excel and exceed his expectations. Joy is easy; proud is an accomplishment.
My favorite scene was in season 3, just before Andrew's wedding, he whines to his siblings about how recent political events are taking attention from his big day. Charles mockingly points out that Andrew is the second son and will always get less attention than Charles and his family. During all of this, Anne is just taking it in, saying nothing but looking very amused. Then Charles leaves the room and Edward , trying not to laugh, says "That was one of the c**tiest things I've ever heard".
This one also cracked me up! Andrew is whining like a little crybaby about his wedding not getting enough attention, and Charles brings Andrew’s ego down a notch! And Andrew looks flabbergasted! And, yes, Edward’s “That was impressively c**ty,” was also a good line!
When in season 2 the Queen gets a new hairdo and Phillips mentions, when seeing it that he thought she wanted more children as he does not find it attractive. The Queen responds that it is very regimental and Phillip says 'word to stir the loins' Hilarious. real married people do talk like that.
Season 4, episode 1-- Thatcher has her first audience with QE2 after winning the election and in the very next scene she's pounding away at an ironing board while informing her bored hubby, Denis, about the meeting 😂
For me….. When Margaret snapped back at the Queen when they were talking about how marrying Peter would come back to haunt Margaret…….. Margaret’s response about Phillip’s family was pure comedy. But the ultimate funniest moment was when Phillip commented on The Queens hair. I laughed so hard because the queen was so proud and happy about her new hairdo…. But honey Phillip wasn’t here for it 😂😂😂😂
The phrase “impressively cunty” has now become part of my family’s vernacular after watching Charles rip into his siblings with the “never be king” spiel
The bedroom scene where Queen Elizabeth was about to pray and Phillip stumbles in drunk after he'd been drinking with the queen mother and Tommy. They were toasting the fact that the Queen ejecting the Duke of Windsor from London after he'd come asking if he could work again.
the documentary was a HUGE hit in England- there was an intermission and the number of toilets flushing at that exact moment caused plumbing back ups through out the country.
Erin Doherty "Princess Anne" grew up a few minutes from me, She's a few years older than me but she went to school around the same time as my cousin and she said she was quite funny and playful back then. It was such a nice surprise to see her end up on such a big TV show even though i've never met her it's strange to thing we grew up minutes away.
When andrew is getting married and the headlines are about the queen and he complain, charles puts him down and Anne does not say anything but her expression does.
Even serious TV shows like the anime series, Brynhildr in the Darkness (2014), and the Live TV Series, The Crown (2016-), can have their own funniest moments from time to time and it's entertaining to watch. 🤣😂😆😂🤣😅🤭
one of the funnier parts is in the war of determination scene, where if you watch, you'll see the number of men at thatcher's desk increase with each option!! and they get increasingly more stressed/in disbelief about the whole situation every time
Jackie Kennedy smoked a pack or more of cigarette’s a day and died of lung cancer when she was still relatively young. The Queen never smoked because of her father’s smoking and cancer and she also made Philip quit smoking and they both lived decades longer than Jackie, basically as long a life as someone can live, almost to 100. 96 years and 99 years respectively and she was always going to go when her husband died and vise versa. Almost 75 years of marriage and 80 years of being together, yeah… it would be incredibly hard to live without the person you’ve spend basically your entire life with other than childhood. She met him at 14 and vowed to marry him then.
I don't watch The Crown, but, this was a great top. Happy wednesday afternoon, Emely. Take care and God bless you. Greetings from Colombia to you as well.
Mine was the normally dreary, whiny Charles overtly dissing their mother's favorite, Andrew. "Fringe member of the royal family who'll never be king", indeed. Anne just taking it all in. Edward delighted to be a full participant for once, with the epic summary, "Well, that was impressively c**ty".
Which The Crown moment made you laugh? Let us know below, and be sure to also check out our video of the Top 10 Most Shocking The Crown Moments - th-cam.com/video/7cwaZPvnxtE/w-d-xo.html
"If memory serves, you had your own ballerinas for that" was my favorite retort.
I was waiting for that to be the top one.. whoever made this list was not so good
Matt Smith/Prince Philip yelling at everyone in the final seconds of season two has always been my favourite moment. So glad it made the list. 😅
Olivia Colman's delivery of "you've made it this far" wrecks me on every rewatch. Her back and forth with Michael over the priest is also hilarious 🤣
Princess Anne is my favorite character on the show. I love the scene u describe here, but I also love when she gets her grandmother, Princess Alice interviewed by the newspaper. She is definitely the princess of sass!
she's the best royal in real life too
"Our Queen is dancing... with an African."
"It seems like the Foxtrot, Sir."
Tommy Lascelles silently adjusting his war model after the Queen puts it back in the wrong place!
Absolute gold that scene!!!
Gillian Anderson did a wonderful job of making Thatcher feel so out of place at Balmoral. You actually start to feel sorry for her, in spite of her tyrannical nature.
She definitely did. Not just there but also when thatcher gets ousted, it made me almost cry myself…
Princess Margaret constantly sassing Thatcher was hilarious. Gillian is an amazing actress. So is Helena. Incredible show.
In season 2, when Philip says that Elizabeth could always double her new haircut as a helmet, if she ever feels compelled to ride a motorbike 😂😂👏🏻👏🏻
Without a doubt Princess Anne inherited Prince Philip's wit and humour which is why she's his favorite
Anne is one amazing Royal
Loved Philip always telling the photographer to take the Bloody photo! LOL! Apparently, he's the only normal royal!
Philip's like, "Duh. Anne's my favorite. Haven't you been paying attention?" LOL
Yes...She's a REAL Battanburg!
Wonder if Elizabeth ending up regretting her favorite- Andrew.
Princess Alice had a few good quips too. lol

John Lithgow is the best Winston Churchill that I have ever seen. He’s such a well rounded underrated actor.
I love how Lady Churchill says "Oh do shut up" to her husband. Probably the only person who dared to do so!
Typical older couple.
How could y’all forget
"If memory serves, you had your own ballerinas for that" causing Phillip to choke on his food and stutter. That’s my funniest moment from the entire series
One of my favorites is when Prince Phillip makes fun of the Queen's new hairstyle. 😂
adjectives to stir the loins
Right! How is it not on this list?!
YES!!! Even better when you realize, that's basically Queen Elizabeth's signature hairstyle 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
LMAO 😂😂
Best ever comedic scene. Apparently the actors cracked up too !
My favorite would be the meeting with her tutor when she finds out parliament have been hiding Churchill's medical issues from her. The tutor tells her to summon them and dress them down like children because, being upperclass men, the thing they want most is a dressing down from nanny.
Yes!! So funny and true😅
That was brilliant.
I thought prince Phillip calling "sweetie" on the microphone was funny. And the queen said "My name is cabbage"
Sweety was Anne
Olivia Colman, Helen Bonham Carter, and Erin Doherty - all three pure Crown gold! I agree with your #1 but also her first scene. We all know Olivia and Helen's delivery perfection but Erin's delivery is spectacular. I laugh every single time!
Erin Doherty as Princess Anne made an awesome work and was so underrated. Of course she's the Queen of sarcasm and deserve the top 1
Also, of all the prettied up casting choices (esp. for Charles) she had the most verisimilitude for me. She was never a Barbie beauty, but she was always a handsome one.
"It's not a sermon, it's an anesthetic!" Gotta love Philip! 😅
Somewhere on Long Island, Billy Jo-El is laughing at this!
I think the funniest scene js when the Queen tells Margaret that her love interest is a "friend of Dorothy" 😄
I had to look that one up 🤣
Our household favorite was when the Queen says, “yes, bubigans” when repeating Prince Phillip’s nickname to his mother
A lot of the scenes with Princess Margaret are really funny. I especially like the scene when her and the Queen are discussing where Diana lives and Margaret says Diana's sharing a flat with "prostitutes and Australians"😂😂
Orstralians 😂 I did laugh hard at the pronunciation. And I can, being an "Orstralian" 😂😂😂
Do you mean deliberately funny or unintentionally funny? If we’re including unintentionally funny it has to be the tampongate scene from season 5. The looks on everyone’s faces as they read the transcript while we hear Charles and Camilla talking is pure comedy gold

I could never get enough of Princess Anne. The best!
"I'm the Queen not a saint"
And "sherry or tea whatever that maanster drinks"😂 Brilliant writing!
“I’m the Queen, not a saint” sounds like something Her late Majesty really would say
Anne, definately. The most level head of all of them. The Queen we deserve but will never have.
You guys missed an opportunity with the scene where Prince Philip asks the Queen if she expect more children from him after getting her hair cut. «Adjectives to stir the loins»😂😂😂.
I love that scene! 😂
Prince Philip's interactions with Anne are some of my favs. They are one in the same for sure. ❤
I love that the series leaned in to Olivia Colman's background in comedy for seasons 3 and 4.
The scene in Season 3 where Philip calls for Anne over the palace intercom needs to be here.
and the scene that follows too omg i love that whole part
"My name is either Darling or Cabbage. Sweetie is someone else" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 GOLDEN 😆
Anne and Margaret are criminally hilarious. You just know Anne gets the sass from her auntie
I love how most of the funny moments were from the seasons with Olivia Colman. I know we LOVE Claire’s queen but I don’t think Olivia can help being funny. I love her 😂
I wish Matt Smith’s rant about Margaret and Tony’s engagement made the list.
Churchill's opening line after. King George says something to the effect of Mr Atlee might be a good politician but he is boring to talk to.
Young Princess Anne, is my favorite at throwing her lines.
When Elizabeth's father woke Phillip up for an early morning hunt... classic
I like the scene where the choirboy shushes Churchill, who else but a child would have the nerve!
1:07 That “TAKE THE PHOTO” and finger point always makes me laugh
Prince Phillip teasing the Queen about her new hairstyle in the second season made me chuckle. 😂
The sanest one in that whole bunch was Phillip. He was the unsung hero. Sad he’s gone.
I agree!! He would have been fun to have a beer with huh 😂
I mean damn the man was almost 100. You can’t say he went too soon that’s for sure, he lived a nice, full and wonderful life. Good for him.
I loved the Princess Margaret and president Johnson lymerics.
And I was surprised when liz says "which parent would openly admit to having a favourite child" .. I was like your dad did... the whole "pride and joy - Elizabeth is my pride but Margaret is my joy" thing...
When one child is the pride and the other is the joy, which is the favorite?

Actually, I believe Edward said : "That was impressively c**ty."
Olivia Colman's comedic timing 👌
Everyone knew Andrew was QE’s favourite child….& thus she defended, covered for & & paid off for & raised up a monster.
When in season 2 the Queen gets a new hairdo and Phillips mentions, when seeing it that he thought she wanted more children as he does not find it attractive. The Queen responds that it is very regimental and Phillip says 'word to stir the loins' Hilarious. real married people do talk like that.
"It's not a sermon, it's a general anaesthetic."
"You've made it this far ..." yes!!!
Middle seasons Princess Anne is the reason I wish the 2013 changes to the succession act were applied retroactively
It wouldn't make any difference, she's younger than Charles (by a year and a half or 2 years).
Matt Smith as Prince Philip is the funniest for me!
Tommy Lascelles in season 2 informing the queen about the avant garde activities of Anthony Armstrong Jones, Princess Margaret’s fiancee.
YES! I waited for that one 😅
Season 4, episode 1-- Thatcher has her first audience with QE2 after winning the election and in the very next scene she's pounding away at an ironing board while informing her bored hubby, Denis, about the meeting 😂
I love Erin so much. She nailed her role so well of Princess Anne.
Seeing Thatcher out of her depth from the Royal Family is the most satisfying thing I’ve ever seen
I quite enjoyed Princess Anne in Seasons 3 & 4. I'm glad she was Number 1 on your list.
The prime minister describing princess Margret's visit to the white house I loved his expression.
Thank you for including the limericks scene in Margaretology (the limericks from Wolferton Splash should also be on this list)
I always said Princess Anne was Prince Philip's favorite. She is the most like him.
I hope it wasn't too emotional for you all. //// I laughed soooo much! Princess Anne is THE GOAT!
Hard to chose a favorite but mine is "I'm a Queen, not a saint"
The first time I heard her say "Billy Jo-el", I about shot coffee through my nose. I just LOST it.
But honey Phillip wasn’t here for it 😂😂😂😂
Another honorable mention should be Prince Philip’s reaction to the Queen’s hair while on the train
Princess Ann is my personal hero.
We all know the Queen's favourite child was Andrew. 😂
Come on, how did you miss Philip making fun of Elizabeth's haircut in season 2 saying it would double as a helmet?? xD
"Bah! I can just SMELL the socialism on him!"
-Churchill, referring to Anthony Eden
LOVE IT!!!
My 3 daughters are all a favorite at one time or another. Just never at once. Not since they reached the age of 6. Grandkids are a different story.😂
The phrase “impressively cunty” has now become part of my family’s vernacular after watching Charles rip into his siblings with the “never be king” spiel
Well said !!! I do agree!!
Jackie Kennedy was actually 3 years younger than Queen Elizabeth
"Detectives Tiara" lololol
The Balmoral scene , when Margret scolds Thatcher for sitting in the Queen Victoria chair.
The bedroom scene where Queen Elizabeth was about to pray and Phillip stumbles in drunk after he'd been drinking with the queen mother and Tommy. They were toasting the fact that the Queen ejecting the Duke of Windsor from London after he'd come asking if he could work again.
Olivia Coleman nailed the main role the best
Phillip choosing Ann as favorite is obvious lol all dads will pick their only daughter as their favorite
At the time of Elizabeth's wedding, Churchill was not the prime minister, Atlee was.
Loved him as churchhilll 😅❤
the documentary was a HUGE hit in England- there was an intermission and the number of toilets flushing at that exact moment caused plumbing back ups through out the country.

Harriet Walter - an unsung legend.

The Queen Mother is my favorite 😂😂

I have two older brothers. There is certain things in their rooms that I am not allowed to touch and it’s absolutely hilarious when I do.
This show was so goddamn good befire it turned into the "Princess Diana Show" in season 5
I wholeheartedly agree.
100%. I get that she defined a decade, but there was more going on than just her.
I disagree quite vehemently. Quite a mean spirited comment
@@chichipotter4487Well, let me clue you into something, other people can have opinions even if you “vehemently disagree.”
"I'm a queen, not a saint!"
The funniest thing was when the guy broke into her bedroom and told her that Margaret Thatcher was going to put the queen out of work.
The Queen is 3 years older than Jackie. HM was born in 1926; Jackie was born in 1929.
QEII outlived Jackie O by quite a spell also.
Jackie Kennedy smoked a pack or more of cigarette’s a day and died of lung cancer when she was still relatively young. M Thatcher was the PM the Queen knew wouldn’t betray her ; she attended Margaret’s private birthday party even after she left Downing Street
Churchill wasn't PM at the Queen's wedding.
No but he wanted to upstage the incumbent! And he was always hoping for another term!
