Awesome! Was in my early 20’s when this first hit the radio. Just think. No autotune, no voice enhancing just pure talent. A live performance WOW! Real talent. What a musical era to come of age in!
Mainstream music has been godawful since 2003 ended and when 2004 began. 1970 to 2003 mainstream of all genres are my thing. I mean, I grew up with retro tunes back then. I'm 37 now but mainstream now is crap.

How many of us drummers were born to this groove in every early 80’s garage band everywhere. One of greatest pop tunes ever written…thanks Brother Greg…
+bagley232 I used to be in a band, and we played this song. The guitar isn't anything special, but the song, the vocals are so awesome, so much fun to sing! Wish I still had time to be in a band....

I recall driving across New York State and this song came on the radio. The proverbial hook was so strong, I pulled over and called the radio station to find out who it was. Fabulous song. Where did the 43 years go since this concert was performed?
Great song and proof that you don't have to be a shredder or even have a shredder in your band to write and perform great songs and make hits. It's a bout melody, energy and lyrics.
Oh yeah, I saw you. One of the most awesome things about the Country Club shows was the Alley Access at the back door to watch or sometimes help the bands load up after the show. What a great time to be 21.
Exactly! Normal clothes, normal looks. Not like today’s manufactured look and fake sound . Don’t have to have any talent, since there’s auto tune. All about the fake stage presence.
I was 24 when I first heard this song on the radio back in 1981 on my way home after a full long day of work. The rhythm and beat of this song along with the words energized me in minutes and I was charged up in a few minutes, even though I was feeling pretty whipped just minutes before the song came on. Even today, this song still gives me a jolt. Amazing! This one and 'Jeopardy' were his two big hits.
One of the best riffs ever. Classic rock in every sense of the word. This tune will rock on for future generations to love and appreciate. Memory eternal Greg.
What an absolutely incredible song, band & video! This song lyrics are more on point now than when originally written! This song will always be relevant in the future & now in August2024.
We grew up in the best place possible, Berkeley in the 60s 70s and 80s. Just out of high school we used to go to see these guys in the small clubs (esp the one on UniversityAve which I can't remember the name of right now!) and Sproul Plaza in B-town every chance we could, and traveled around the Bay Area too. We loved them! I haven't listened to them in years. I just saw that Steve died in '17. He was my heart throb. Very sad. And no they don't make 'em like that anymore. Nor the music. 🎉
Agreed ! I think the one you’re talking about is / was Berkeley Square ? right there on University ( am local from across the Bay , so I caught him at the Cow Palace and the Days-on-the -Greens at The Oakland Coliseum ) I envy you to see him in that small venue experience- just amazing 🎉
One of my favorite songs from the 80s. Saw Kihn perform in 1987 (after his band broke up and he had no record contract). Years later I saw an interview where he talked about how this was lowpoint for hm due to the sudden loss of success. You would not have known it that night--he played a great show! RIP Greg Kihn.
Heard this as a youngin in a bowling alley with my mother. One of the few memories i have with her. Never knew the name to the song but knew the uh uh uh part. Heard this on the radio the other day and am glad i know the name to the song.

Looks like he was in his 40's when he had his string of hits. Very cool he got to achieve. We were lucky to have lived through that time of music. Never see it's like again.
They were at their best from maybe their second album through conspiracy, and then everything imploded. I don't know why he hired a new band but their success was because *that band* was great, they needed the gestalt.
I loved watching this video on MTV. Got to see these guys open for Journey in May of 1982, right before graduation. Journey was good, but just kinda going through the motions. The Greg Kihn Band blew them off the stage. It was amazing! 🤘💖

That live guitar is amazing!

Dave Carpender was fabulous.
Rest in Peace Greg. Your music (and videos) were, and continue to be an inspiration for so many in my generation.
he was ahead of his time and predicted correctly. they just dont write like that anymore.
For some reason I was thinking about this song and how much I liked it as a kid watching MTV . Then this morning I saw he died of Alzheimer’s. RIP!
He played my prom in 1988. ❤❤❤❤❤ Monterey California.

In a medium-sized-ish club Kihn was an astoundingly good performer; really feelgood shows (though I never got to see him do Madison Avenue Man)
This backbeat I feel in my bones. Possibly the best live song ever. Such good energy.
Fond memories of listening to this great song in the garage while applying bondo to my 1968 Cutlass Supreme.
