I was in that audience. 3 things I remember clearly... 1) how amazing it was to see one of my favourite bands ever, in Johannesburg, 2) the amazing irony of being able to listen to "Beds are Burning" in a recently post-apartheid South Africa, and 3) the one-armed didge player. This gig was incredible and the memory of it lingers sweetly
Well, it's wonderful in my home country of AUSTRALIA - the people are all very humble, religious and respectful folk. Oh, and incidentally, pigs can fly.🤪
If your listening to this in 2023 you’ll know how amazing this song is! A timeless classic… This band should of been one of the biggest bands in the world of all time.. Ever! Incredible performance… 👍
I never thought I would see a more electrifying performance than Bruce Springsteen but I just did. I am stunned. That is the greatest single live performance of a song I've ever seen. Garrett is amazing.
This would've been a great theme song for Peter Garretts Pink Batts scheme -Oh Wait. 200+ houses burnt down and 4 dead. Bout time he gave some of his back isnt it the hypocritical millionaire arsehat. Garrett and MO always sang protest songs about how bad corporations and governments were and how badly treated the indigenous were (which is an astounding lie when you look into it) and so instead of becoming an independent politician he joined Labour under arguably the worst Prime MInister Australia ever had. The Pink Batts scheme was allegedly to insulate peoples homes by installing fibreglass sheets into the roof. The policy was so badly designed and implemented a wave of dodgy installers came along got a bucket load of money of the government and incorrectly installed the batts and then disappeared. Garrett left Labour and went back to be a singer. And No he never gave anything back.
I loved this song since I was a kid. I literally just started crying watching video. The meaning behind the lyrics, the music, the engagement, the energy.

Would like to see the young people who were brought on to the stage, must be in their 40's bet they have happy memories of this night. Life passes so quickly
An amazing song from Midnight Oil. A forever classic and still listening to it today. First time I see this great live show video, saved to my collection 😀🤩
This boy is a rock star but to me he looks like a strong tough fella. I accidentally watch this video and my memory went back to the 90s when the first time i heard this song on our favourite radio station here in Fiji fm 96 but couldn't workout the name of the song and the artists but now thanks to TH-cam i got it.
One the very few Aussie musical acts that had something important to say. Musically brilliant. Superb live. Their recent and final album is a must listen, Classic Oils. All tracks are strong and meaningful. The opening track is a belter. Glad this band went along a different path and didnt sell out commercially.
The massive, syncopated bass fills in harmony with overlain synth horns drive the virtually sacred chorus, which instantly grabbed me the first time I heard “Beds Are Burning“ back in early 1988. I bought CD as soon as it became available. I was enthralled by the vocal and physical presence of their 6‘4“ lead singer, Peter Garrett, who is also a lawyer and may be a polymath, officially left Midnight Oil in 2002 to pursue a successful political and legal career during the next 20 years to pursue the civil and property rights of the Aborigines, as foreshadowed by “Beds Are Burning“. After retiring from MO in 2002, Garrett found time to perform with Midnight Oil several times on special occasions over the next 20 years.
Wooow. The bass and drums on this live version is insane. I got lost for a while, took me way back when things mattered. Policy n truth. Love and hope. Midnight oil encapsulated it.
Oui c'est tellement beau à regarder et écouter cette vidéo !! Entre autre parce que le groupe invite du monde de la foule à embarquer sur scène et des gens se présentent bien sur scène et participent au show wow ! :))
I will never forget the first time I saw Midnight Oil live. It was at Great America in Santa Clara, CA. The crowd was really getting into it, when one of the security guards gets on the mic and tells us to sit down, stop dancing and listen to the music. That's when Peter Garrett went to the mic, and said loudly "let the people dance"! The guards never bothered us again, and yes, we danced!!!!! Peter was a hero!!!
In an age of 55 years, sittimg in pure joy and seeing/hearing this for 10th time in a row. This gives so many nice memories back in the days when I was on start of 20'ies dancing and singing with my friends to refrain... This is live, at its best. Thanks for the upload....
I have seen musician electrifying audiences before...but nothing like Peter Garrett. He creted songs straight from his heart and sang them from there. What a performance!
I always remember this tune when it used to come on over our radio Tannoy system at work and absolutely loved it. now....many years later having moved from my hometown in England to Ontario, Canada it's still an epic. Will never grow tired of this amazing tune. Thanks guys.
I lived and worked in Sydney from '92 - '95 and I met this guy at his house, he was in his garden sitting under a tree writing lyrics. Our furniture was still on the boat on its way over from the UK, so we were looking for an unfurnished house to rent. The realtor took us to see this guy's house but it was furnished and he wouldn't put his stuff in storage. He was off touring. I didn't have a clue who he was (Peter Garrett) and had never heard of Midnight Oil, Nice guy with shovels for hands! I can't count the number of times that I've played this track since! What a gig!
Heard this for the first time when it came out , never heard of the band, and thought, wtf, its awesome , still is, prophetic, musical, socially relevant,
Awesome 👏 great memories, I grown up and still listening to the 80’s music 🎼 🎵 🎶 This Aussie dude got a unique voice . Everyone stay safe and blessings and greetings from my Sonoran Desert 🌵 HMO ,Mexico 🇲🇽 🌍 🌞 🌴

Nessa época não tinha celular filmando e nem ladrão deles 😂😂😂😂
Yeahh
Yes! Music of my era!
No cell phones in the crowd, just people having fun with this nice song
It wasn’t exactly logical trying to take a photo and video with an Ericsson GH337 in 1994.
I love bands who give it their all and try to connect with the audience. You can feel the energy in the arena from the video.
Yeah that apartheid thing worked out well... civilization moved out and the lunatics couldn't run a proverbial piss up

Did you pay the rent, did you give it back? If not, then merely sentiments!
Still one of rock music’s greatest songs.
Agreed 💯
An Australian hero, who was a voice for the Native Australian people and human rights❤

Those young kids will never ever forget that moment.
It doesn't get much better then that. Being on stage with Pater Garret and the gang. Incredible
I’d love to know where these kids- now adults!- are at now, and if they have ever commented about this once-in-a- lifetime experience?
I would love to know that as well
@@PapaCowboySrI have never seen a concert with such energy. Peter Garrett is giving it and the crowd is sending it back!!

What an unbelievable performance of such a superior and relevant song. More relevant today than in 1994.

Peter had such an amazing stage presence. And so many great songs. Midnight Oil should have been as big and successful as U2.
always preferred them over U3
