    • @pepperman3554
      @pepperman3554 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sampopkin There are three guitar parts in HB. The basic track lead guitar, and a lead guitar overdub both played by George. Then there is the solo, which in my opinion is played by John. We see in that film of the band recording the song that they recorded two tracks simultaneously: lead guitar overdub/bass and drums overdub/solo guitar. Solo guitar must be John, George can't play the overdub and solo at the same time.

    • @sampopkin
      @sampopkin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pepperman3554 in the music video you see them recording the basic track which is george on SG, paul on tambourine, John on piano and ringo on drums. Then george doubled up the main riff line with an SG. The solo is where it’s possible john played, but there are two guitars playing the solo. This amounts to 4 guitars in total, and my theory is that george played all 4 guitars. Meaning he would’ve overdubbed 3 times. The two guitars doing the solo could not have been played at the same time because they are panned in stereo and were overdubbed separately

    • @pepperman3554
      @pepperman3554 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sampopkin I believe your theory is wrong. Mark Lewisohn writes quite firmly that Hey Bulldog is a four track recording, no reduction mixes. So how on earth does George play on all four tracks? Well, he doesn't. He plays on the basic track 1 (left channel), and on the first overdub track with the bass (track 2 center). BUT like the video shows, that track is played at the same time as the track 3, drums overdub and solo guitar (drums center, guitar right). Track 4 is vocals. “Two guitars doing the solo could not have been played at the same time because they are panned in stereo”. What are you talking about? Where is the second solo guitar, and how are they panned??? There are no two guitars playing the solo, just one, and the player must be John.

    I saw your Gear, There and Everywhere video on Hey Bulldog. That short excerpt from Guitar Gear Connection's video of the Hey Bulldog solo bore probably the closest match to the tone on the recorded version. Would you say the settings he used (listed in the video description) were the default for his sound on The White Album? I asked GGC but he seemed to deliberately dodge the question. Anyway, my thinking is yes, because while it does sound a little nasal, I don't think George used the MRB since it sounds more high end than midrangey.

    Was George's guitar a bit out of tune?. I've always listened to the recording and thought his guitar sounded weird tune wise
