They remain the most covered band of all time, yet pick any one of their songs and which version is always the preferred version? The original Beatles version, every fucking time. Some attempts have been flashier (Jimi Hendrix's Sgt Peppers), some attempts have been more epic (Joe Cocker's With a Little Help from My Friends), some have been more soulful (Stevie Wonder's We Can Work It Out), but it's the tightness and well roundedness of the band that creates a sound nobody can surpass. Like artists have been scurrying for 60 years to make a better Beatles song than The Beatles themselves and it is yet to happen even once lol

Jeff Lynne and ELO has been the closest thing to the Beatles since the Beatles broke up, has been one of the most important musicians, songwriters and producers over the past nearly 50 years. He produced albums for Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, Brian Wilson, Del Shannon the ex Beatles as well, for Paul, George and Ringo. He was in the Traveling Wilburys which he formed with George. Dhani Harrison is opening for his 2019 tour. He produced Free As a Bird and Real Love for The Beatles. John Lennon called ELO the Son of the Beatles. George Martin and Jeff Lynne are the two producers who worked their magic with the Beatles and glad Jeff is starting to get the respect he deserves.
"We're gonna play Electric Light Orchestra from last year - "Showdown" - which I thought was a great record and I was expecting it to be number one but I don't think UA got their fingers out and pushed it. And it's a nice group. I call them 'son of Beatles' - although they're doing things that we never did, obviously. But I remember the statement they made when they first formed was to carry on where 'The Beatles' left off with "Walrus" - and they certainly did ..." - John Lennon

      @@tejasmohite2651 - I'm aware John Lennon complimented ELO's music.
The comment was "Jeff Lynne and ELO has been the closest thing to the Beatles since the Beatles broke up."
I'm not attacking ELO and Jeff Lynne and I actually bought a couple of ELO's singles back in 1977. Jeff Lynn and ELO were never that big or important in music, let alone on the level of The Beatles. They didn't even have a No 1 single or album in the UK or USA. Lynne went on to produce albums for a few great artists towards the end of their careers. Fantastic! I'm no knocking the guy.
The Beatles comparatively were the most successful band in the world and continue to be so 50 years later. They have outsold every other band and were so popular at the time they coined the term 'Beatlemania.' Their first appearance on U.S. TV was the most-watched TV event after the Moon landing. The Beatles were also massively original, changed popular music forever and still considered the greatest of all time continuing to inspire new artists to this day. They changed, not only popular music forever, but impacted the world arguably more than any artist in any genre in history.

Well, you're comparing ANYBODY to The Beatles.

Jeff Lynne has been the closest thing to the Beatles since the Beatles broke up, has been one of the most important musicians, songwriters and producers over the past nearly 50 years. He produced albums for Paul, George and Ringo. He was in the Traveling Wilburys which he formed with George. Dhani Harrison is opening for his 2019 tour. He produced Free As a Bird and Real Love for The Beatles. John Lennon called ELO the Son of the Beatles.
But I remember the statement they made when they first formed was to carry on where 'The Beatles' left off with "Walrus" - and they certainly did ..."

I did see Jeff Lynne’s Electric Light Orchestra in New York 2016 Toronto in 2018 and 2019. They were voted the best live classic Rock Band in the world 🌎 and after seeing about more than 200 concerts in my life I totally agree. Let’s hope they tour one more time in 2022-2023. I will go wherever they play.🙏❤️👍

The difference is quite clearly that Dave Grohl is not John Lennon. Everything else is great but Grohl can't replicate John's voice.

From 1972 to 1986 Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra has had more top 40 hits than any other group in the world. 50 years later they still play in sold-out Arenas and Stadiums. I saw them again last Summer of 2019 on the North American Tour...( Best Concert of my life) All the reviews agree they are the best live act in the world and Jeff Lynne is a Music Genius. They are in the Rock Hall of Fame. Lynne is on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and Birmingham Walk OF Fame. Jeff Lynne’s ELO won the Best Classic Rock Band plus Lynne won the best Song Writer award ( ASCAP ) 2019 for his fantastic contribution over the years. He created the best Super Group of all time with his best friend George Harrison, The Traveling Wilburys. The Legends in the Music Industry call Jeff Lynne the best overall Musician ever and a Producer Extraordinaire. Jeff Lynne has written and produced many hit songs for music legends like George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, Joe Walsh, Brian Wilson, Paul McCartney, Bryan Adams, Aerosmith, Del Shannon, the Everly Brothers, and so many others... This has been my hands-down favorite Beatles song since I was 9 years old, and I'm nearly 56 years old now. I never really understood why I loved it so much more than their other material, it was all really good. I still don't know why, but I'm glad to find out that it wasn't just me.

HooseBinPharteen This song, along with "And Your Bird Can Sing", is my favorite Beatles song. Sometimes a casual Beatles fan will ask me what my favorite song by then is. I mention these songs and get a lot of blank looks back.

Me too. The part I always loved, and I bought this album in like...!972 or 3...was where John and Paul have the conversation at the end where John is interviewing Paul and I think Paul is the Bulldog and then they both start howling and screaming...which is, when you think about it, what they were at first famous for. But what I didn't like about that album was the one side that was all orchestral.

"If you're lonely you can talk to me." - It just now struck me as oddly appropriate that, on the Yellow Submarine soundtrack, "Eleanor Rigby" immediately follows this song.
