The Longest Super Mario World Speedrun History
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 5 พ.ค. 2024
- Over the last 30 years, this game has been torn apart more than any other Mario title. With the game’s less linear approach, people have repeatedly found new challenging ways to beat the game, but there’s one specific goal I have in mind.
Today, I want to dive into something people have been trying to piece together for years: the entire history of beating every single level in the game at once. This is the World Record History of Super Mario World 96 Exit.

This was a fun video to come up on my recommended! I’m Jason Baum, aka GameCube04 (though I haven’t gone by that in a long time, haha). I did the 1:31:45 speed run way back in 2005. I really appreciate you showing highlights of my run, especially the Tubular strategy! I was always proud of that one. You are correct that my thinking of going small in Valley of Bowser 2 was to navigate the raising/lowering platform section faster. It’s interesting to me that not only was this apparently unnecessary, but that other runners copied that strategy!
Speed running was a lot different in the early years- it was much more of an individual effort as far as coming up with routes and strategies, whereas today it’s much more community based. But that’s what I’m most proud of about my run- I came up with every strategy for every level all by myself. It was really interesting learning how much this category has progressed with the new strats and clips- definitely way beyond my skill level! When I was going for my run, I always figured a “perfect” run would be in the 1:28 range- clearly I was wrong.
Fun fact- my speed run actually made it into the 2007 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records!
Very cool, my friend. That tubular strat is legendary.
Yooo, let's go!
omg summoning salt, storster, karl jobst, OtherRuns, Maximum released the video on almost the same day? I am in heaven?
So real dude 💀
As I said in another video, I don't speedrun and I haven't even played these games in decades, but these videos are so good.
msushi, too!
exactly lmao

"By killing bowsers balls with a cape slide" well said
When you said "beating every single level at once", for a second I thought you meant literally getting every exit at the exact same time which, while almost certainly impossible would be one goddamn incredible TAS if you could somehow do that with one set of inputs sent to 96 emulators at the same time.
What I love about the SMW community is how we can talk about things like about making message blocks out of thin air like they're normal.
This is turning into a great weekend for Speedrun doc watchers. Glad this channel's back.
Indeed, Storster, Summoning Salt and Karl Jobst releasing videos within around 24 hours of one another, it's indeed pretty amazing
I was waiting for someone else to mention this. 😊
@@blipniskis I saw all 3 in my notifications and I just could not decide which one to watch first!
Hope we see suigi secure the 5/5
@@surprisedlobsta8543 who
I don't think there's another channel on TH-cam who can talk about Bowser's balls so many times while keeping up a straight, professional and level voice. You have much more self control than I would in your place.
Heh…balls.
Maybe Storster can do a video on the legendary Flash game Bowser Ball
I knew I recognized the name maiba and hearing his Mario 3 credits at 53:36 cemented it
You have no idea how much time I spent, as a wee child with no internet, scouring those levels over and over trying to find those last four elusive points and get 100 on my file lmfao
Amazing video! Thank you so much for taking the time to compile the history of this awesome category!
Awesome to see you here, I hope things have been well for you! Cheers 😄
Love the contrast between the choice of derpy and happy music with the deep serious but sometimes fun voiceover. Well put together video too. SNES overload.
I did do all 96 exits in one sitting about a month ago with my stepdad, both of us being big Mario world fans, knowing pretty much all of the secrets. It was insanely fun and I would agree with you everyone should try to do this. We did it in seven hours though and took a break for dinner.
I have watched speedruns since the early days of Twitch with Siglemic in 2010 as my entry. Watched thousands of runs. 96 exit will always be my favorite category and happy to see guys I've followed for years now (Kakusho and Linkdead) get some love. Great video!!
Karl Jobst and Summoning Salt yesterday, then Storster today? Let’s gooooo!
Best week of Speedrun documentaries ever.
who?
96 Exit is a lot more interesting than you would initially think, due to most people thinking that all you have to do is fly through every level. Nice vid
That was a fantastic video Storster, great story, brilliantly told.
It's really cool seeing the comparisons and improvements of the newer runs
MY FAVORITE SPEEDRUN FINALLY GETS A BREAKDOWN??? (ok technically my favorite is the Lunar Dragon variant but it counts)
i love this channel so much and it makes me sad how little attention it gets. ive been watching since the first SMW video which is one of your most popular
relax, look what jesus did with just 12 disciples..
You know a game is beloved when the record on 2005 survived and its just a few minutes slower than today on a run longer than an hour.
this video is so good! keep up the good work :) glad to see all these cool facts about SMW!
YESSSSSSSS! I'VE WAITED FOR A VIDEO ON THE WORLD RECORD PROGRESSION OF THIS CATEGORY FOR YEARS!!! THANK YOU STORSTER
how has this only got 3,000 views? i cant even begin to imagine how much work you must have put into this
Hell yeah, great stuff bro!
well made, and very interesting. I do hope for a Lunar Dragon video (first video I've watched on your channel)
I think it would be fun if someone used glitches to beat the yoshi house, and use stored orb to beat the donut cache level, and then cut out 2 of the more time-consuming exits to get "96 exits" faster.
A 96 exits all glitches allowed category!
I think a video on the unintended exits could be interesting. (The speedrun history of the intended exits certainly is!)
Honestly something I have considered! Maybe in the future!
Finally a long video by Storster, welcome back, also I am wondering when you'll continue the Mario speedrun iceberg series I am waiting for tier 2
The entire audio/structure has actually been done since January but i shelved it due to a lack of motivation and personal stuff. I’m heavily debating taking a stab at it again and releasing it this summer
All I can say now is that if it was released this second, it’d be my longest video ever
@@Storster Alright man take your time great videos tho 😁
Awesome video!!! Well done!
i bursed into tears when i heard "mario killed bowser's balls"
I challenged myself to get atleast a top 10 or better in all 104 main board full game categories, in the 3 dadish games, and im happy i completed it, theres not many people who run dadish and categories are not popular but i personally am happy with doing it.
Two great hours between you and Summoning in two days, AND this video is about my first and favorite Mario game? Hell of a weekend, boys
Yeeees... Thank you sir. I've wanted to see this video for a long time.
That impresses me is that there is tools to make mods of this game (all fan made) and mods is STILL coming even now. And many of those mod is surpassed original beyond any beliefs not just making new levels or add some beauty bits (honestly, original was rushed and it feels, game is little barren in tern of eye candy) - they even add content from OTHER games inside.
Wow pat, 69k views so far. I’m happy for you bro. I’ve quit the speedrun community for a a while to focus on my junior and senior year of high school (the french baccalaureate system can be difficult) and now I’m heading off to university. Your videos are genuinely entertaining to watch fully through. Good luck for the future, I believe in you. Maybe I’ll rejoin the speedrunning community once again in the future. -kestrel
Happy to hear from you again, best of luck
@@Storsteromg funny how we both went from mario speedrun fanatics to transgenders 😭😭 i lowk had a feeling that u would be from like a while ago and i just checked and realized omg that’s so funny

すごく良い動画だと思います👍️ ちなみにoosuiさんの1:21:43.7は7城時点ではBPT的に更新できないと言ってましたが攻めチャートを使ってギリギリ更新してるのがすごいところです 日本語で失礼します
Take a shot every time Sorster mentioned Bowser’s balls in some capacity.
Great video, very well put together!! I forgot most of this so it was very nostalgic to watch. This category is so destroyed now - it's really awesome what the runners/community have done.
Regarding your question @26:23 that bugged me too so I did a deep dive and also came up empty. But I have this memory of him having a lower time and talking about it in the old #smw IRC channel because there was some confusion with timing methods. I'll ask around and see if I can find anything.
Really nice to see you here Dram and I hope you are doing well!
That part of my research was definitely the most frustrating by far, but I hope as a whole I did the history justice!
LEGEND
@@Storster I was able to get a copy of the 2012/2013 #smw logs - everything you had in the video was dead on! I have no idea where that 1:24:23 time came from - it was never mentioned in irc. What I was remembering was Menboo asking me about my 1:24:35 because there was some weirdness with framerate on the TH-cam encode. Again, awesome video!
hey Storster, nice to see you and hear you again
Man, nobody has this much info on mid 90's runs. Crazy stuff. Keep it up!
46:07 PENGA MENTIONED RAHHHHH WTF IS DRAM WORLD 3!!!! 🔥 🔥 🔥
YOOOOO COMING BACK WITH A BANGER
Now time for the Longester Super Mario World Speedrun History doc (AKA Lunar Dragon)
Aahh dram55.... the Bradley Cooper of Speedrunning. Handsome, talented, humble. Freaking legend.
Man I found all 96 levels organically as a kid and remembered feeling such a feeling of completion once I realized I had beaten everything. Only thing better I remember is finally beating Tyson that one time 😂
This is a great video but I have to say the captions saying "it was enough for my butt to reign supreme once again" was really the highlight for me.
I had only ever played it on Super Mario All-Stars, which my copy was not able to hold save files. If I wanted to finish SMW, I had to do it all in 1 session.
That red panda vtube avatar is horrifying.
People often call games so broken, but the fact is that they still work and play well after crazy abuse by the players. Like Ocarina of Time. Many other games just crash or become unplayable. Compared to getting one stage counting to exit count.
The work put in these Speedrun history videos is just insane.
This is CRAZY
I love this game only did 11 exit glitchless though, can't do all 96.
epic gaming speedrun video
Amazing!!!
Is that the jellyboy soundtrack at 28:00 ? 😂😂
0:00 this song sounds like "Hybrid Song" by Quazar, an old XM module
Good catch! That is what the song is modeled from!

Yoooooo Storster upload :D
Question do you like the flower power up or the feather I like the feather best
Storster yet again delivers. Great video! You're tempting me to learn a 2D Mario Speedrun
Try the Marihour challenge one day if you’re feeling confident lol
no one better have gotten it twisted
Top tier content
I think I have found an unknown glitch in W1L2 where you first get Yoshi. I can get the cloud that tosses coins.
I want to go back to the 90's
I hope someone talks about niftski perhaps the greatest gamer who ever lived and getting all 6 WRS!
They couldn’t add 4 more levels?… 🤣🤣🤣🤣
i like to fall asleep to these
great video :)
New video let's go!
At 26:05 to 26:54 there is a really weird, and pretty severe, audio glitch. Possibly blew my headphones (left side doesn't work anymore) but haven't tested on another device yet.
EDIT: The aberration actually kicks back in AGAIN at 26:58 on-the dot, and stops at 27:06, then kicks back in AGAIN at 27:09, and stops at 27:50. - which "seems" to be the end of it.
Just thought i'd let you know. Great vid other then that!
(edit: corrected time frames to be 100% accurate instead of an approximation, and added some more time frames in a 2nd edit)
That's... that's the background music. Sounds a bit like a low sweeping sound?
I really really hope you blow up soon
Ohhh new speed analysis content on my timeline? Dont mind if i do tyvm.
I really want to watch this video but pretty much never knowing what year it is or not having any indication of when these runs were done actually makes it painful to watch/understand. Even just having a date on the bottom left of the screen to show who's video this belongs to and when it was recorded would highly boost the video's quality, but not having that and it being so unclear what year it is just makes it so hard to watch.
Edit: watched the rest anyway, video is still pretty good, though my above nitpick does still apply
I wonder what the highest you can push the exit counter to?
Yes
Small nit. It would be "myriad improvements", not "a myriad of improvements."
Koopa boss spawn kill!?! What!?!
at 32:03 ive actually done that one by accident as a kid
108 exit speedrun history when?
Where is the ice berg video part two I’ve been waiting for it I thought this was it but no take your time in the meantime I’ll watch this amazing video
Planning to resume it this summer, will be out eventually! Maybe not this month.
@@Storster wow I’m thanks for responding to me… I think I am really happy now

We'll see a sub 1 20 before the end of 2025
So with glitches how many worldscan you get? Ive o ly ever hesrd of 96 being the max.
Awesome video. You don’t have to worry about butchering names that are phonetically pronounced
speedrun fans EATING these past few days
I don't know if that reference is on purpose or not but please rename that section you called Dram's Destruction. I did not want to be reminded of that today... IYKYK.
???
Hmmm. What if 96 exit glitchless?
Omg storter what😢 about dragon coins and moo 😮
If they aint gettin all the gold coins it’s technically not 100% runs
I won't speed run because it will forever change my outlook on the game, making it less fun..
24:26 Sloppy segments, heh heh heh.
YEAAAAAAA!!!!! :D
Personally I think Lui is the best overall SMW player
There are actually 97 exits
people who play claw on a controller really piss me off
Isn’t Lunar Dragon the longest?
Could you go into depth about Pikmin 2 Speedrunning? You'd be the first one to do it.
This is my favorite platformer ever. That said I can't stand to watch any speed runs of it unless its capeless. Regardless of the skills and tricks involved its so boring to watch. 🙍♀️
Ma'am, you and bismuth make videos actually interesting to fall asleep to, keep it up :)
