I met him at 2016 Euros and he was really nice to me even though everyone was asking him for autographs and pics. I remember that someone stole my Square-1 before the first round was about to start and I was looking for it desperately, he was around and he told me: "Hey, take this, you can give it back to me tomorrow", and he let me use his square-1 even though he had met me that very same day. I also got the opportunity to hang out with him and few other great speedcubers the night after the Euros ended. Apart from being the best speedcuber of all time, a lovely dude, I had a great night and a great experience back in 2016. I hope to meet him again.
Did you give it back?
Thats so awesome
Great story. Thank you for sharing. Many people will be touched by your comment. I certainly was.

He is basically the Arnold Schwarzenegger of cubing, started early while the community was still very young and small, became the best, created his own legacy and will forever be remembered as the most impactful member to have ever existed in the community
that tru tho
He's also somewhat a Michael Schumacher for the community, plus he even looks like him.

Although he may not remember me as a great friend or anything special to him personally. He has effected my life in unmatched ways, he really reminds me that our idols are just normal people and the times that I’ve spoken to him have been some of the most fun conversations I’ve had, especially in the cubing community. Thank you Feliks for being an amazing and kind hearted example for our community.

What's amazing is, nobody dislikes Feliks. He will always be the greatest.
The people just disliked it for attention
Who cares about the dislikes. Nobody hates Feliks in real life, because he's too kind and nice to be hated by anyone.
JettYung then Max came into cubing
Feliks will always have the most WR in speedcubing because honestly, he’s nearly reached the limit of what’s possible, and that’s pretty awesome
@PyroSkitty By my comment I don’t mean he’s holding the WRs right now. I’m (and this video is) talking about how many wr he has broken in his career
Max currently has about 65 wrs.
Considering that he has pretty much no one to compete with in big cubes (while feliks had Kevin) there is a good chance Max might actually beat the 121 world record tally.
Feliks was a monster back then, now he's an inspiration

What a harrowing story. I don't know how to solve a Rubik's Cube but I recently felt the urge to buy one and try to learn to solve it. I researched different kinds of cubes online and I discovered what speed cubing is. Then I stumbled across this video. By the end, I was literally crying my eyes out. Feliks Zemdegs... it will be a name I won't ever forget. For speed cubers I obviously see why Feliks is so revered but I was drawn to his genuinely kind nature and charitable smile. For me, what matters is that someone is a good person. Rich. Poor. Talented or not. It doesn't matter. Just be a good person. Not only do I bow to Feliks but I bow to his parents for raising such a fine young man. It's heartening to know that the world of cubing has this genuine and talented star sitting at its apex.
can we get more likes on this post please
@@brycem7498 exactly
If you enjoyed this mini documentary, I *highly* suggest watching two other great ones. "Why We Cube" is a TH-cam documentary on this very same channel. It follows the story of about five famous speedcubers and how they got into it/what it means to them, etc.
Then follow that one up with the Netflix documentary "The Speedcubers" which follows the friendship and competition between Feliks Zemdegs and Max Park.
Hope you feel inspired to join our little weird hobby. Welcome to the club!
You're going to want to look up "harrowing" in the dictionary, mate.
@@YourLocalCafe I meant what I said. Feliks's world records are harrowing, akin to walking a tightrope across the Grand Canyon. Feliks is a Rubik's Cube natural but the "acute distress" and pressure in his body from these competitions is palpable. To be the best, there are obstacles to overcome and mountains to climb. We feel the sweat, the nerves, the tremors, the earthquakes, the failures and the victories. Cubing is not simply a kid's activity. It's a forceful and beautiful expression of mind and body. Look hard enough and the history of world is in a Rubik's Cube.
Player : WHEW! Finally broke that feliks guy's record...
Feliks : Are you sure about that?
As someone who goes to a lot of the same competitions as Feliks, I can genuinely say he is such a good role model in the community. He's friendly with everyone, not just fast cubers and delegates. He has learned mine and my brother's names by about the third or fourth competition we'd been to, he doesn't shy away from volunteering at comps, he's super humble, and he's always happy to take photos with kids or sign their cubes or whatever. Plus, he's really useful since the younger kids are more likely to listen to him if their being to loud or disruptive
He is just, in general, a good general role model too.
Be like Feliks, kids. Just be a nice guy, be determined to do what you love, and don't be afraid to take on any challenge that comes your way.
Yeah
.
That was very inspiring thanks
this guy might not be the best now but he’s still the greatest in everyone’s heart

Amazing job on the video. Brings up lots of emotions, not just because of shared memories but also because Feliks was a big inspiration for me when I started cubing. King!
11:43 You know someone is "The Greatest Speedcuber of All Time" when they get a 5 with a v perm.
His Z-perms are super fast too
JJ Sevins Z perms aren't bad though. Their definitely not even close to as good as all the other Eplls, but much better than things like v perms.
it takes me 3 secs for v perm 。。
Someone explain what a v perm or z perm thing is?
firebird213-_ V perm and Z perm are PLL algs. In CFOP method, the last step called PLL (permuting last layer). There are 21 possible states of PLL. Aa, Ab, E, F, Ga, Gb, Gc, Gd, H, Ja, Jb, Na, Nb, Ra, Rb, T, Ua, Ub, V, and Z perm. V perm is one of the hardest to execute
I just learnt how to solve a 3x3x3 yesterday by the layers method, My best time is 2:29. I feel like I don't belong in this comments section but I'm very proud of myself and decided to share it anyways. It's really mind-boggling to think that someone can be that fast (and that consistent too). Great video and great Cuber!
You definitely belong here. Congrats well done 👏😁

I think that the reason that cubing community has achieved such recognition and still by inspiring more people to cube is because of all the amazing speedcubers we've had and Feliks has the greatest contribution towards that. I feel bad for all the people who don't know what a legend he is

The Greatest Speedcubing Video of All Time.
There’s lots of great ones, but yeah this is one of if not the best cubing video ever made
Back in 2011, I was in grade 9 and honestly I was having a major identity crisis. Everyone I knew had something they were good at. Football, badminton, Violin, debating etc.
Then I saw Feliks Zemdegs on TH-cam with his 6.65 second WR in his green t-shirt! And I was like, man! This is inhuman! Till then, I thought I was one of the best solving it at a minute and a half!
Soon enough ,I was just the kid with a geek tag because I was the only one in my school who solved the cube day in and day out. I had a funskool cube so the best I could get out of it is 35 seconds with 2 look oll/pll. So now, I was the cube kid!
I was frustrated because my parents never bought a speedcube for me until the morning of my first competition in Nov 2012, Mumbai. Till then I was using a shengshou while everyone were using lubix or the new dayan cubes. I was in top 10 NR in my very first comp, though I didn't podium!😄
Feliks was God for nearly everyone of us back then. For me, he gave a hobby that would last a lifetime. I can safely say I'm his biggest fanboi, and have watched all of his TH-cam videos since Thrawst vs Fazrulz1!❣️

I remember these stories very well. I remember watching in 2013 as Mats got that +2 that rendered the Championship Feliks' and thinking that that was divine intervention. It was incredible to be there and see Feliks in his moment of vulnerability as he shed tears of happiness to clinch something that was written in his destiny. To congratulate him and be part of that surreal moment of his. These are the things that made my time in speedcubing something to remember. Thanks for making this video.
This video speaks to me emotionally on so many levels as someone who grew up cubing intensely, I literally had to stop the video 56 seconds into it because I just don't feel like crying like a bitch right now.
