It's not that hard tbh, learned it by reading the included instructions. Took 10 minutes. Then managed to get a consistent 3 min average time
@@jeromealday614 yeah 3 minutes are easy, but faster your times become harder it is to improve, and when you're cubing a sub 40s you basically improve by 1 sec a week and when u cube at 20 seconds it takes months
@@FemboyHasu I feel like the "beginners method" can only reach a certain amount of time. I realzed that him just learning the cube and getting under a minute in a few weeks probably means that method just takes a long time to complete, cause my best time was around 30 seconds (and I had a lucky scramble) but my average stays around 45, so while a good starting method its very slow.

Usually company makes something "competitive" to earn more money too. But still the human nature of trying to be their best is still the reason why these world records exist. And these companies are just supporting us, while gaining profits. Win-win solution.

I used this video to learn to solve the 3X3. It took roughly 2 months. I can now solve in 40-50 seconds. The strange thing is that I no longer remember the algorithms, as it has turned into muscle memory. Great video!
i’d say my best time is a bit less than 2 minutes but i definitely agree with not even remembering the algorithms 😂 indeed it has turned into muscle memory!

Hey, how much time do you take to solve the cube fully? Did you follow WIRED's method? Can the time come under 1 minute?
@@abhay_007 I started with beginner's method where I got to around 1:20min. Then switched to CFOP and am now on average at 55s, with a best of 41s.

This was an unexpectedly fascinating video!! Loved it!
Is there anyone out there like me who is having a hard time learning this skill. My son gets it. He understands the algorithms very well. I call him the puzzle man. He wrote everything down for me and I'm still confused. I get to a certain point and then I'm lost. I admire those who have mastered this puzzle. It inspires me to keep trying.
I would suggest looking at J perms tutorial he explains it very well. I had a Rubik’s cube sitting on my shelf for years then I watched the tutorial and I was able to solve it
Don’t worry you can get it! It takes some time. And I agree with the above comment about watching j perms vids, they’ve helped me a lot
I actually learned it a month ago so
I could teach my 6yo how to solve it. I’m down to like 90 second solves now.
It tends to be a bit harder to learn if you start older, but it's completely possible. Jperm's tutorial is probably the best way to learn. It's what I used after trying a bunch of different "how to solve" videos.

In middle school, it was one of my dreams to solve one. I got one for Christmas around that time and learned to solve it within about a month. I'm not really into it anymore, but those were fun times.

@@dennisp8520 well, first of all it's the memorization skills that you need to learn the algorithms. Second, thinking your moves ahead improves the flexibility of your brain cells I guess. Also it's not always predetermined path. Sometimes you need to get creative and make your own moves. And last, it's so much fun, it really is.

For your A05 that is AMAZING! For the time you practiced mine at that time was probably like 1:30 ish now it around 28 seconds with lots of practice and algorithms
Mine WAS an old-school original edition (which I modified in the way he described - except I used graphite dry lubricant) and the best I ever managed was around 2 1/2 minutes (a time that was at one point in time considered at least respectable).

Max Park: Is that a challenge?
I learned to solve Rubik's Cube more than 15 years ago with a really old "rusty" cube. I was so hyped that I solved it every day a few times and it took me less than a week to memorize the moves. A few years ago I bought a faster cube but still only able to solve it in a few minutes. I just ordered a "speed cube" and will learn the speed cube method to be able to solve it under a minute or half. Can't wait for it.

The record shown at 1:04 is even funnier when you have context. The record was dropped to 4.73 seconds here. The previous record had been 4.74, and that record had been set by the other guy at the table.
He was very good-natured about it; the community that speedcubing has built up is pretty non-toxic.

I love the Rubik's cube, my mother bought me one for Christmas one year thinking id never solve it, by lunch time I had solved it. and ever since that day I can now solve it in around 20 seconds on average, sometimes faster, I use it as a stress releif. I also use it as a way to remind myself that I am capable of teaching myself anything no matter what.

My brother cubed back in high school in the 80s they did corners first and he figured that was the only way. I showed him beginner method then I showed him the app solving it in 20 moves and his mind was completely blown. I remember trying to solve when I was a little kid now I’m slightly obsessed with cubeing trying to learn f2l

That was just Feliks talking about how unexpected the world record jump in times were. I’m pretty sure it had nothing to do with how easy or hard it is to just casually solve a cube with a tutorial

So what i am mostly impressed by.
The way i solve a cube i got it under 2 min as my fastest speed.
which i myself am quite proud of. But his guy makes it look super casual and feels like its slow but he does it in 1.40 which is like vastly under my time.
I think my big thing is i need to learn to use both hands. CAuse atm i am mostly using my right hand to turn the majority of the cube and i am probably much faster if i start using my left side aswel.

So i tried that and it did help i managed to cut down it down to 1.44 seconds and i did make a few mistakes and i started out quite slow so there is still way more time save in there.
Also my brain is very slow i always still need to search for the pieces i need expecially my start f2l takes ages because i need to look for the pieces. I dont really have a quickfinder like you have with F layer then 2nd Layer. But f2l is even tho i need to search a milion times faster xD

I am also still doing cross, orient cross, do corners, orient corners for top layer. And the orient corners costs usually 24 and with bad luck 48 rotations which takes AGES!!

Also if you notice speedcubers dont move the face of the cube. All algorithms are modified so you can hold it still

Some of them are actually throwing the cube down half turned and relying on gravity and impact to finish the last turn while they hit the clock.

1 month ago I started “cubing”. I watched the other wired video with a tutorial. Took me a day (few hours) to solve it using that video. The following day (with a few notes written down that I would peek over at for reference,) I was able to solve it in roughly 4 min. In The days following, my notes (written on a regular sheet of paper) turned into a post-it note. 2-3 days of referring to that, I was finally able to memorize the algorithm. And now? Now my average is 1:22 and my best time was 57 seconds. Which is embarrassing compared to these speed cubers, but I am still very excited about it 😅

I remember when I finally got my solves down below around 3 minutes because I would start a song and try to solve it before it ended.
@@RobertBeckk it was such a quick transition for me, I think a week in I was sub 3 minutes. Once I hit 1 minute solves is when I really slowed progress. To get consistent under 1 minute f2l and 2 look just aren't enough for my fingers. It really took me studying oll cases to shave seconds. I still only know about half of them at best.
@@Quantum- Yup. I only know the standard beginner solve and I can consistently solve it under 1 min, probably around 50 sec average. Or rather, I used to be able to do that. I haven't solved in years so rusty is an understatement.
@@DirtyPoul I can't even remember how to do the beginners method. Lol. I think I used it to solve my puzzle maybe my first 10 times, saw a speed cubing video and was learning f2l that day. Intuitive f2l only has a few algorithms and they're short.
@@Quantum- Beginners Method is like intuitive f2l, just that you would now understand why you do these moves.
But I know what you mean, I wanted to teach a friend how to solve a cube and I googled the beginner's method to show her because I couldn't remember
I've competed in a few speed cubing competitions when I was younger and the most impressive solver I have ever seen was this elderly Indian gentlemen at Berkeley. He only did the 2x2 event and his times were not very good, it took him about 2 mins per solve but what amazed me was that he solved it without any algorithms. He looked at the cube and worked out in his head what moves would take him to the solved position. Smart man.
Ye that's the 2x2 for you, with some cubing experience you can solve it without knowing any algos

I learned to solve a cube in one day as a 16 year old. I still remember how to do one to this day. It's really not that hard. IIRC there's only 5 moves you need to know. The first layer requires no knowledge, you can just figure it out, the second layer requires 1 (albeit it's not as effective as knowing both), the last layer you need to learn: how to make a cross, how to match the middles, how to match the corners, and then putting the corners up right.
You can do a 2/3rd of the cube with only knowing 1 algorithm! It's not very hard once you learn.

@@albertluo2293 I know I'm not 100% sure that they didn't fake it. but ban baron is a past world record holder and his UWR solve reconstruction got shown in a lazer0monkey video. max park is probably one of, if not the best big cube solver, as he has the world record for 5x5, 6x6, 7x7. sameer I don't really have anything that backs up this solve, but he averages sub 8 in comps so i guess it's possible

Not trying to flex or anything, but my personal best is 15 sec on the dot
I have an average of about 1 minute and 40 seconds, and I have to say, it is shameful.
1 month of practice (1-2 hours a day) can get you less than a minute. I started in December 2018 and now I avg 20-26 seconds and a PB of 16.85. PB is personal best btw.

Yeah. It annoys me when my classmate is a non cuber and when i turn the corners due to it being twisted and say im a cheater. even though its impossible to solve due to the cube gets messed up when you try to solve it

@@toxic2971 He's not talking about who is faster. He is talking about who pushed the times to the limit; and that would have to be Feliks. At his prime, no one even came close to him. At Tymon's prime (probably now), Max, Leo, Luke, and a few others are still on his heels. Heck, he doesn't even have the WR average anymore.

He really is. But as time goes on the next generation gets better, even though Feliks isn't the best anymore he certainly was the face we all saw when we got into cubing. The guy who we all wanted to beat

It's not. Its normal. You can literally learn to solve it under 2 min in a day if you got a paper with algorithms.

I got 40 seconds in 1 and a half week with beginner method, it’s not hard, I used the rubiks brand cube and it slowed me down to 1min and then I got a better cube and got down to 40 seconds

Back in 1980 (high school for me), I solved a cube in about 33 seconds and my average time was about 35 seconds. It was an old-style cube, of course; however, a friend of mine sped up the cube by putting graphite in it to lubricate it. Thing turned like a dream.
Chernobyl the series taught me that graphite is dangerous

i’m 1980 if you solved it in 35 seconds average you would be basically world class. That’s quite amazing. I am saying this based on the fact that world class cubers in early 2000s averaged about 20 seconds i think

1:05 the person to his right, Mats Valk held the world record, then the person who solved the cube, broke the world record by 1 milisecond.
Mats Valk did 4,74 and Feliks Zemdegs then did 4,73.
Technically the difference between this two values is 0,01 seconds and it is a centisecond and not a millisecond
