    In my Maths class, we are doing probability and the rubiks cube came up because of the absurd amount of combinations there are to scramble it (43 quintillion), so my teacher said hell show us a video explaining it. Would you mind telling me how you did that calculation? I tried it myself and got a figure much higher. However, I think it might be because I treated every square the same, disregarding that some cannot move because they are center pieces and also disregarding that certain colors can never be paired together.

    A possible reason the corner on Feliks’ solve might have twisted, it his thumb. His thumb seems to be quite highly located on the F-face. So when he did his final U’, his thumb might have been blocking him to make the full turn. Yet, he forced the turn anyways, and twisted the corner.

      I guess it doesn't look that way to me, but maybe he has big thumbs. Edit: tried it on my aolong, and i hurt my thumb a lot and it still won't twist. Maybe his cube was a lot looser

      @@JPerm I notice you switch from analyzing the twisted corner W G R to the opposite corner that was near his index W B R. I agree with @Koendos3 it looks like his left index might have pushed the W G R corner over the tip of his left thumb. The center slice also looks like it's rotated a few degrees in M' direction which when I try and turn the top layer on my cube it just locks up if the W G R corner has to climb over 1/3 of the G center. Maybe the two forces combined did the trick? I don't have this OG cube so there's really no chance I could replicate it but the physics of twisting a corner that way also seems super unlucky.

    anyways just a nice wave of nostalgia, i believe you were the main channel that helped me learn how to solve, but youtube removed the ability to sort by oldest so its hard to check, not to mention i dont really remember as much.

    Speedcubing pre 2016 or so was such a wild time compared to what it is today. The standard measure of a “good cube” was corner twists per 100 solves, the expectation was you would get corner twists often and you just had to cry about it. Stickerless cubes weren’t competition legal. Using Vaseline sandpaper and WD40 on cubes was standard procedure (the plastic deteriorating was solved by simply buying another cube) literally everyone used the same cube (guhong, zanchi, aolong, etc) also vcube was like one of the genuinely better options for a speed cube, bonus points for being available in Barnes and noble’s.

It blows my mind how much cube designs have changed over that time - if you had asked me back then, I would have said there was certainly some room for improvement, but assumed that we were pretty near a plateau of diminishing returns. Actually, you can see his thumb rubbing on the corner while he did a turn. His thumb was in the middle of the corner piece (don't know how to explain using words) and so the thumb rubbed against the piece but the turn still was forced through which led to it twisting. And the corner even turns the way that makes sense to the idea listed above

    I use the WRM maglev and v9 ball core (the new moyu). Why do you prefer the WRM? I switch off because I feel the WRM is more stable but the v9 is faster (I use weight 3 Lunar and stardust)

  • @LunarForte
    @LunarForte 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    This story was so tragic! The AoLong v1 was my main at the time and it was basically wiped off the earth after this solve. I got the v2 when it came out, but I hated it. It felt like a completely different and slower cube. I ended up panic-buying a couple more v1's, but everyone did the same. I was only able to get white ones. This started a couple year run where I mained all white plastic cubes just because I didn't want to give up my v1. It's great that, in the long run, this helped cube designs improve by a longshot, but I still remember the panic when I felt that v2. I still have all of those AoLongs and, needless to say, they feel nowhere near as good as even budget cubes you can get today. That really was a wild time in cubing.
