My Mum, who knows nothing about cubing and doesn't care about it, actually enjoyed this documentary thoroughly. The ability to make a 45 minute film interesting to people who know nothing about the topic is a real talent. Seriously great job, Chris!
Yeah, I’m blessed to also have very supportive parents. My brother has traveled the world doing what he loved, diving, and they were there with him from Germany to Cuba, they were there every step of the way. I’m glad I have such loving and supportive parents.
Yeah in sixth grade I was in cube club at my school, and my best time was 1:06. I'm in tenth grade now and just started solving again, and yesterday I got a new pb of 1:05
@@Stardipped_Paws I learned the beginner method just 4 months ago, and i'm 34. Never did a cube in my life before. It was so satisfying to finally being able to do it! Then i taught my daughter, and she smoked me in a month. My pb is now 1.14 , and hers is 58 seconds. I need to learn some more advanced algorithms :P (and boy does it help with a good cube, instead of the old school ones.)
This documentary is fantastic. Seeing the culmination of 18 months (!) of hard work on this is incredible. Feliks' narration was done so professionally, and his speeches so insightful, it was an amazing experience to listen to. The journey of four amazing people in the community was pulled off so well, I was glued to my seat for the whole time. My only regret is that there wasn't more to watch. Amazing work, Chris, and a fantastic job to everyone who worked or collaborated with him on this! You did a great job, and I can't wait to see what you do next.
We're so used to Feliks being the star of cubing. It was nice to hear his encouragement and support for other cubers. It reinforced the idea that we cube because we want to improve ourselves, not to defeat others.
Feliks is such an undisputed champion, but his greatest quality is how gracious and chilled he is as a multiple world record holder. For some reason, I always feel safe watching his videos as if I am in the hands of a true professional - wise beyond his years. I think you guys will agree that I will one day be glad to say: "Ah, yes. I was around when Feliks Zemdegs was young. There will never be anyone quite like him..." Dr BEN.
My parents and friends dont know why i cube. They see it as a noisy toy that wastes money for the same things over and over. But i know its so much more. I got into cubing about 5 months ago when my cousin challenged me to solve his cube. I havent seen him in a bit but for thanksgiving i cant wait to show him how much ive improved and the challenge he gave me inspired a whole new path in my life and as of now i know full beginner PLL, around 80% of beginner OLL and learning beginner F2L. i average around 25-30 seconds and i currently main the RS3M 2020 with upgraded magnets from the magnet kit. i use the second setting with the adjustment system and will soon be getting into over events and puzzles like clock, pyraminx, and so many more wca, and non wca puzzles in the near future. Thank you cubers and thank you for this amazing documentary. Cubing isnt just a hobby, its a lifestyle.
I completely agree dude, I started cubing when my friend Declan bought a 2x2 to school and solved it like nothing. It seems kinda funny now but i was amazed at how he could do this. We had a secret Santa for my class and I got a 2x2 rubiks cube. (Coincidence? I THINK NOT!!!) Anyways, lol I spent weekend reading the instructions and eventually memorizing the steps. Once I got back to school I showed up in front of Declan with a 2x2 and asked if he wanted to race. I felt like a God not only being able to solve one but to be faster than him. It was CRAZY. Eventually I got a 3x3 but I was very reluctant to learn because memorization with the instructions was really difficult. I wish I knew about jperm then lol. But I eventually did it and I have been cubing for 2 years now and I average 12 seconds when I'm fully warmed up. I remember though thinking about 2 months ago that my cubing goal was to get one sub ten. I was like if I get one sub ten in my entire cubing career, I will be a legend. But I thought that this could never happen. Then it finally did. It was a 9.98 I think and I expected myself to jump up and run around and stuff lol. But I kinda just sat there and thought, "huh... that really just happened... well let's keep going". And I've been able to get a sub 9 and eventually 2 sub 8's! At the time I was like ayyy lez gooo. You know but looking back now it amazes me how far I've come. And I still don't think of myself as like a pro cuber. But yeah sorry for the suuuper long message lol, I kinda just felt like it idk. But yessss cubing is ABSOLUTELY more than just solving puzzles and toys or whatever. I wish you the best of luck with your cubing and I hope your family comes to realize how great the sport of speedcubing really is.
if you're the best at anything, you will make money, even if you've cubed for a few years, you won't be the best, You'll probably be pretty good, but you won't make any money.
damn it feels good to be a cuber today. just finished learning full oll yesterday after about a month of drilling algorithms. what a fitting reward seeing this documentary being uploaded the day after cube on!!
It's thanks to this documentary that I know who Max Park is, I already knew his name, but didn't really know who it was, and after this documentary, I did more researches, and now, he's my model, the person that makes speedcubing a thing that it is even more wonderful than it was before, thank you !
OMG - what a wonderful film. It should be on TV. Last week I bought four Rubik's cubes for my grandkids, and one for myself. I didn't want to give them out till I could at least help them a little bit. Today, after watching a 'solve' video on TH-cam for the zillionth time, and after about a hundred (make that two hundred) attempts, I have managed to solve the cube (probably more by luck than anything else!). I'll be 72 in a couple of weeks so it's never too late to learn. Well done all of you for such a fantastic film, beautifully made and a credit to you all. Gotta go and practice more now!

DolphinCubing Agreed. It's so cool to see such a professional production filled with people and ideas with which I am familiar. This captivated my family as well as me.
Amazing, Chris! I love it! This so eloquently shows how cubing has impacted the lives of so many people. As someone with social anxiety, one of the most nerve-wracking times for me was just before going to my first competition. I was so nervous and scared because I didn't know anyone there. But when I first started talking to people, all of my fears melted away, and to this day it remains as one of the most fun experiences of my life. I live in rural, northwestern Minnesota, and there is *nobody* around who cubes, and so for me to be able to go and spend an entire day with people who share the same passion and love as I do is something I can't pass up, and is something I will continue to cherish forever. Thank you so much for this, Chris!
Love this Chris! Thank you for putting this together and for everybody who made this possible. Really insightful to have a chance to understand people's stories outside what we would normally be able to.
Up until this point, cubing as always just been a side hobby. After watching this video, it all changed. This video is inspiring. It truly is. Thanks so much Chris for making this and inspiring so many people around the world.
This Documentary has proven to be a very great astonishing piece of work to me. As one of the speakers said"I want to spread cubing" or something like that, mainly focused on cubing being something bigger in the world. I respect this statement and individual very much. Me as an example am a cuber inspired by my friend, a speed cuber, and as mentioned in this wonderful video "A hobby first, then competitive". I love seeing cubing competitions blogs, documentaries, and youtube videos, but especially the tournaments, as they seem like a huge place to just go, cube, do some stuff, and have fun with it most importantly, and just socialize, opening a path to meeting many new and different people who may just even make you a better person. I love cubing, however, as i primarily stated, i would love the idea of it to be spread, such as comps or branches or at least an introduction in countries such as those in Africa:Ghana, togo, Nigeria, etc, and other contents and places as well as countries which do not have a scope gf cubing. However, I also don't have to be so selfish as cubing may not be something MANY people would be interested into and may not overall acquire a wide attraction , interest etc. however for the small majority that does have these kind of desires, it would mean a lot, and possibly even spread and somehow advertise cubing in these countries, promoting cubing to several many different people, which could possibly be the next Max Park, Feliks Zemdegs, Drew Brads. I really appreciate it if you have read it all the way till here. Thank You
OlympicCuber Thanx man. I am even surprised that someone actually cared and read the whole thing! lol. but thanx. at least i know that what i wrote wasn't for nothing. (3
This is cool. I'm a 31 year old father of 2 (well, one daughter and a son that is soon to be born). I decided last week that I wanted to learn how to solve a cube. I ordered a cube, and it arrived 3 days ago. My first solve took me a youtube video and 5 hours. 3 days later and I can solve it on my own in about 10 minutes. So fun! I plan to pass along this fun to my son and daughter when they are old enough. If a 31 year old race car driver can learn how to cube, then anyone can!
They removed asperger's in 2013 and now everyone just has various levels of autism. Those who had asperger's are on the high end of the autism scale. It is probably easier for doctors to tell parents their kid has high-functioning autism than it is to tell them their kid has asperger's, and then explain that asperger's is just high-functioning autism.
This is definitely my favorite cubing video yet. If a non-cuber watches this, they'll be able to learn so much about the cubing community and they might want to become a cuber themselves and the cubing community will grow even more. I could show this to my friends and they'll be able to learn more about what I do, and that it's not just something I do in my free time or for fun, but that it's something I want to make a career of and be the best I can, make lots of friends, and much more. 😁
This documentary connects several cubers with almost completely different stories through one thing, and that’s the Rubik’s Cube. The fact that Chris was able to make a documentary this special is incredible. Great job Chris and everyone involved, you’ve created a timeless documentary that will inspire hundreds, maybe thousands of future speedcubing generations.
I've been curbing for just over 2 years and it has become major part of my life. I cube every day. I have a 3 year old autistic son and he loves to play with my cubes. To hear Max park's story is so inspiring and gives me hope for my sons future. This really was a fantastic film.
I absolutely love seeing people who struggled through their teen years, probably didn't conventionally 'fit in', but stayed true to themselves and continued pursuing what they truly love into their adult lives. its so so awesome.
every single time, when I watched Max's part it bring a smile on my face and tear in my eye. I do feel the happiness in his parents voice and on their faces
that. was. the. best. thing. i've. ever. seen!! this brought tears into my eyes and a giant smile on my face and i love it! chris, this is a masterpiece..i can not put it in words! it has touched me deeply seeing max's and drew's storys since they are the ones that i look up to and that i admire.. not only will this be my number 1 video that i will watch when i'm down but also when i somewhere in the future might not be able to see the reason to continue cubing! this motivated me sooo much to keep on doing what i love and keep on improving in what i do! if it's cubing or school or anything other.. i loved every seconds! i have to admit that you just created the gateway for me to see my safe place..my feel-well-zone that is cubing and especially the cubing community! i love you Chris and aaall the others that took part in this...max and drew for setting my goals and giving me hope...feliks for teaching me with your videos.... phil for supplying and helping so many of us.. and all the cubers out there for being here in this community to keep it alive and spread it all over the world for that many others get to experience the joy that is cubing.. who knows..maybe a future WR holder will get into cubing only due to this video..thank you all for being there
Stumbled upon this. I average 12-14 and have been doing this since 7th grade (I'm 19). I was always satisfied with my times but this inspired me to continue my dream to average sub 10 and, if possible, become good enough to achieve my own white cubicle jacket that I remember wanting since I found the cubicle site. Thanks for this video it's amazing.
Your editing is incredible! I am still so happy seeing how far cubing has evolved over time. It was great to see such a well-polished, factual and interesting documentary on such a simple puzzle.
From a 51 year old ROUXber (relatively new to speedcubing)...thanks a million for creating/releasing this video. It made working for and attending a cubing competition (as a competitor) a no-brainer decision. It also gave lots of insight into the mind of the average aged cuber. Thanks, again.
Max Park is my hero... all can be done. Saw him my first comp at nipomo, it was awesome to sit next to him and say hi. :) great vid guys. All worth it!!
I got shivers down my spine the whole video, as someone with ADHD and not many friends, the cubing community has been kind and understanding to me and this whole community is just beautiful :)
Absolutely astonishing I've been a cuber for about 1 year now and just yesterday decided to take on CFOP. Currently still on advanced F2l but I'm getting there. This video was so inspirational and I want to say thanks to whoever's idea it was to make this short film. :) Best of wishes to all the other cubers out there that want to learn cfop also!
What an absolutely wonderful documentary. Amazing stories, beautifully captured. Max's story in particular really hit me as my Son is adhd + autistic and has recently got into SCing. He's now teaching me how to solve too. Bravo 👏
Wow, great documentary! It's rare that the spotlight is on the people that push the community, like Kit and Phil. Having been a competition organizer myself, this movie touched something that I had put away for a few years. Specifically, that Phil quote about missing your chance and your time, and the hole that creates within you, but how he found another way to kind-of fill that hole by helping others live out their dream. Again, thanks for this, makes me feel inspired.
this is about the sixth time i have watched this and the impact it has on me never has and never will go away, cause it is such an inspirational video and always inspires me in a way that i cannot describe. The impact it has on a person is just indescribable and that's why i watch it over and over. It is just so well done and that is a real talent there Chris. Thank you for this gift that you gave to the community.
What an amazing story of Max. I'm in my 40s. I've been cubing since I was 8 but only got really better over the pandemic. I'm never going to be this fast but it is so inspiring to see Max.
Wonderful doc! As a teacher who has purchased from the Cubicle for his school's Speedcubing Club, I want to say thank you to Phil Yu for offering great service and prices for my students. You have definitely contributed to the Canadian Speedcubing scene!
Absolutely amazing, brought some tears to my eyes and truly makes me feel grateful to be a part of such a beautiful community. (: Wonderful work, Chris and anyone else who helped along the way!
I am so sorry it took me so long to finally see this doc and by the end of it I was crying. The friendships that cubing has created is something that I couldn't be more grateful for. Great job cubicle!
thanks for making this video! Everyone always calls me a nerd because I always have my cube with me all the time. this video showed me that I have nothing to be sad about. Thanks!
As a cuber, my life has changed by the margin. I will never forget or regret the hours of practice and time I have cubed. It’s just the feeling that gets me going through the day and the hard times.
I am here for the cubing community, yes I got into cubing late (in senior high) but I am growing with it. Me and cubing community is always evolving, always curious. Thank you for making such an amazing documentary.

Thank You
You Cuber Wow. Awesome piece of text, really meaningful 😊
Good on you :)
Brings tears to my eyes! 😭😭😭
Cincy cuber same here especially on Max’s story.
Yeah. Especially Max's story was so emotional.
Their relationship?
@@honeybee3392 same here
120K views ??? This documentary well deserves 120M
I have Asperger’s and the story of Max Park inspires me.
auouymous What ?
They removed asperger's in 2013 and now everyone just has various levels of autism. Those who had asperger's are on the high end of the autism scale. It is probably easier for doctors to tell parents their kid has high-functioning autism than it is to tell them their kid has asperger's, and then explain that asperger's is just high-functioning autism.
auouymous does it matter? You're just being pedantic
2treecko i mean hes speaking facts.
Helix Cuber sameeeee
My 10 year old son started cubing during pandemic, he really enjoys it. Last weekend he attended his first competition. He met Max and Feliks❤
OMG! This is AWESOME!!!!
It sucks that you can only leave one like on a masterpiece like this.
Much love, and keep cubing. I had a cube in my hand as I watched this.
This should be in theaters!
This is the most beautiful cubing documentary Ive ever seen in my life 😥😃 It brings a tear to my eye and happiness to my smile.
This is the best docummenatry I've seen in years
This doc got me proper emotional and then amplified from max's story onwards, im tearing up from Emotional Joy.
YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG IVE WAITED FOR THIS I AM SO EXCITED!!!
every single time, when I watched Max's part it bring a smile on my face and tear in my eye.
I do feel the happiness in his parents voice and on their faces
I cry every time I watch something related to Max as a mom of a young boy.
imagine if Phil just popped out of the shower curtains at 25:03 and said “hey wanna get our new Martian Lube”
lmao
This is honestly awesome. Thank You.
that. was. the. best. thing. i've. ever. seen!! this brought tears into my eyes and a giant smile on my face and i love it! chris, this is a masterpiece..i can not put it in words! it has touched me deeply seeing max's and drew's storys since they are the ones that i look up to and that i admire.. not only will this be my number 1 video that i will watch when i'm down but also when i somewhere in the future might not be able to see the reason to continue cubing! this motivated me sooo much to keep on doing what i love and keep on improving in what i do! if it's cubing or school or anything other.. i loved every seconds! i have to admit that you just created the gateway for me to see my safe place..my feel-well-zone that is cubing and especially the cubing community! i love you Chris and aaall the others that took part in this...max and drew for setting my goals and giving me hope...feliks for teaching me with your videos.... phil for supplying and helping so many of us.. and all the cubers out there for being here in this community to keep it alive and spread it all over the world for that many others get to experience the joy that is cubing.. who knows..maybe a future WR holder will get into cubing only due to this video..thank you all for being there
ikr, such a touching film by Chris
Stumbled upon this. I average 12-14 and have been doing this since 7th grade (I'm 19). I was always satisfied with my times but this inspired me to continue my dream to average sub 10 and, if possible, become good enough to achieve my own white cubicle jacket that I remember wanting since I found the cubicle site. Thanks for this video it's amazing.
How's it going?
I’m so excited to watch this!
edit: just watched it and it's incredible!
I really don't know who gave this video 75 dislikes, but those guys don't know what is simply wonderful.
I don't think I've seen a more beautiful story than the one of Max and his journey through cubing
We need, ‘Why we cube part 2’ there are so many inspirational stories about speed cubing. The world needs to know!
Your editing is incredible! I am still so happy seeing how far cubing has evolved over time. It was great to see such a well-polished, factual and interesting documentary on such a simple puzzle.
Hello Hitz, I see you everywhere in comment sections
From a 51 year old ROUXber (relatively new to speedcubing)...thanks a million for creating/releasing this video.
It made working for and attending a cubing competition (as a competitor) a no-brainer decision.
It also gave lots of insight into the mind of the average aged cuber. Thanks, again.
simply amazing.
Max Park is my hero... all can be done. Saw him my first comp at nipomo, it was awesome to sit next to him and say hi. :) great vid guys. All worth it!!
Max's story really touched me. I have a friend who also has autism who really finds cubing to be interesting, i can definetly see a correlation here
I got shivers down my spine the whole video, as someone with ADHD and not many friends, the cubing community has been kind and understanding to me and this whole community is just beautiful :)
I agree!
Work really paid off.👏👏
Congrats to the whole community
Absolutely astonishing I've been a cuber for about 1 year now and just yesterday decided to take on CFOP. Currently still on advanced F2l but I'm getting there. This video was so inspirational and I want to say thanks to whoever's idea it was to make this short film. :)
Best of wishes to all the other cubers out there that want to learn cfop also!
Chris, and everyone else: what a wonderful, beautiful job! I thoroughly loved watching this. Thank you for all your hard work.
What an absolutely wonderful documentary. Amazing stories, beautifully captured. Max's story in particular really hit me as my Son is adhd + autistic and has recently got into SCing. He's now teaching me how to solve too.
Bravo 👏
phenomenal video! loved every minute of it... lots of good memories in this!
JustKeepCubing where have u been ;-;
Wow, great documentary!
TH-cam should remove the dislike button for this video
They kinda don't have to tbth, there's like a 1000:9 like:dislike ratio on it right now
Honestly, I do not get why somebody would dislike this video.
Lol cubing is gay
@@aidangeorge7012 lol, your just jealous that your not intelligent enough to solve it Aiden
@@danktaco1017 my best is 50 seconds, its still gay
this is about the sixth time i have watched this and the impact it has on me never has and never will go away, cause it is such an inspirational video and always inspires me in a way that i cannot describe. The impact it has on a person is just indescribable and that's why i watch it over and over. It is just so well done and that is a real talent there Chris. Thank you for this gift that you gave to the community.
just started it SOOOO EXCITED!!!!
What an amazing story of Max. I'm in my 40s. I've been cubing since I was 8 but only got really better over the pandemic. I'm never going to be this fast but it is so inspiring to see Max.
19:39
Felik’s Zemdegs: * *laughs in four seconds* *
Wait why does this not have more views?
This answers every question a non-cuber has about why we do this. Let's grow the community!
Is it just me or was I cubing during the whole thing
so was I
I did a 2-7 relay a few times
i was getting a pretty good average
Umm... I was watching this while doing maintenance on my cubes... does that count?
@@nickcalingo3309 good enough
Wonderful doc! As a teacher who has purchased from the Cubicle
for his school's Speedcubing Club, I want to say thank you to Phil Yu for offering great service and prices for my students. You have definitely contributed to the Canadian Speedcubing scene!
I think I cried at some point in the documentary. And who else was cubing thru the whole thing?
Me
I wasn’t solving really but I did some tensioning on my megaminx on the way through at some point XD
Absolutely amazing, brought some tears to my eyes and truly makes me feel grateful to be a part of such a beautiful community. (: Wonderful work, Chris and anyone else who helped along the way!
After I stopped cubing, I watched this video after a few years and saw myself! I’m the kid in the red and blue jacket, with glasses, 2:01
Cool
did u get back into it.
Not Dusk yea
I am so sorry it took me so long to finally see this doc and by the end of it I was crying. The friendships that cubing has created is something that I couldn't be more grateful for. Great job cubicle!
This makes me want to attend a competition, I’ve never been to one but now I can’t (at least right now) because of quarantine. DANG
Same
This .... This is why i started, you started, we all started and motivated us to try and turned into 1 of the best hobbies for all of us
The 206 dislikes are from people who 'just peel the stickers off
Nah they peel them off and still can't solve it
No that's not true, they all thought the dislike button was a "dis I like" button
thanks for making this video! Everyone always calls me a nerd because I always have my cube with me all the time. this video showed me that I have nothing to be sad about. Thanks!
Thank you Chris for this !!!
As a cuber, my life has changed by the margin. I will never forget or regret the hours of practice and time I have cubed. It’s just the feeling that gets me going through the day and the hard times.
This is Why We Cube!!!
I started cubing like 2 and a half years ago, and i stopped a few months ago but this documentary makes me wish i never stopped
5:20, love how the girl in the background reacts
I am here for the cubing community, yes I got into cubing late (in senior high) but I am growing with it. Me and cubing community is always evolving, always curious. Thank you for making such an amazing documentary.
